9:13 am
the california department of public health, more than 900 californians, including 15 children, have died from the flu since the beginning of october. that number is higher than the past six flu seasons. most of the deaths have been in people over the age of 65, but 15 children have died. and that's raising concern among health officials. public health officials also say there has been a low vaccination rate this year. well, let's talk about the weather right now because it's been a pretty nice weekend so far. meteorologist lisa argen is tracking the forecast. and lisa, we have the big parade today. so is it going to be nice for people who are outdoors today? >> yeah. you know we have been in this pattern where we've had the milder temperatures in the afternoon. feels like we're turning a corner this last week of february feeling more like spring. but we are just on the edge of an atmospheric river. so some of the spillover cloud cover infiltrating the bay area, particularly the north bay. not seeing any measurable rain, though, because the lower levels of the atmosphere are so dry. but look at all the activity from oregon and washington,
9:14 am
extreme northern california. we were tracking a few echos here throughout the morning hours. you can still see that the radar is somewhat active over the north bay, but just a lot of cloud cover here, but can't rule out maybe a sprinkle along the coast today, but nothing that you'll probably even notice. in fact, look at all the sun. 56, in santa cruz. a beautiful day here. 53 in the city, 54 in oakland, 49 in redwood city. and look at the golden gate, though we have low clouds, fog, and actually mid-level clouds beyond this. so with low 50s in livermore, upper 50s out by the delta, we are certainly milder this morning. a look from our exploratorium camera. so more clouds today. still the mild temperatures when we get to tuesday, wednesday and thursday. high ■pressure builds in strongly and we'll see sunshine temperatures well into the 70s, about 15 degrees above average. perhaps some records friday kind of a split forecast. some areas will stay mild. then we're going to look for
9:15 am
a cooler weather in parts of the bay with maybe even a few scattered light showers. but really, i think we're going to hold off on the rain measurable rain until we get into that first week of march. so you see all the cloud cover today into monday. and then as we get into tuesday, that's when things really change and we're even warmer. so look at wednesday's forecast. with mid 70s in the south bay could see a 70 degree temperature wednesday, thursday, even friday in san francisco into thursday still quite mild. and then friday. notice the winds are kicking up out of the northwest. that's a day where we'll see some changes. so mostly cloudy, but more sun here in the south bay with low to mid 70s. what a mild afternoon today and on the peninsula 70 redwood city upper 60 in millbrae. got the clouds around san francisco mid 60s and they extend up into the north bay. more widespread there with upper 60s on the bayshore here. combination of some 60s to near 70 in newark. and then you head inland. it's another mild one with 72 in brentwood,
9:16 am
the accuweather seven day forecast. so we're featuring the mild weather for the parade today, temperatures in the mid 60s. and then for your monday a little change, maybe a sprinkle up in the north bay tuesday, wednesday, thursday. those are the really warmest days. but we could extend that into friday. it depends on when this next cutoff low wants to visit california. so that's going to be a perhaps a big change for us and southern california. they have santa ana winds an down there. so we're enjoying the spring fling while we can. >> yeah. you were saying it looks like the rain is not gone for us just yet. >> i think we'll see some more in march. >> a little bit. >> more just a week away. >> and we need it, so that's good. yeah. well, lisa, thank you so much. and just ahead, serving up fresh eggs in the south bay for 75 years, the oliveira egg ranch is closing its doors. how loyal customers stopped by one last time to show their support. >> celebrate community, culture and the black experience with abc seven. >> we are going to have a great
