blood transfusion and is receiving oxygen therapy. the pontiff was admitted to a clinic in rome on february 14th, where he was diagnosed with pneumonia in both lungs. today, he participated in mass at the hospital. abc seven news reporter cornell barnard attended a sunday mass in san francisco, where the pope remains top of mind for everyone. cornell. >> we were at saint mary's cathedral, where many of the faithful are praying for the pope's recovery. some parishioners are so worried about his health they were in tears just talking about the pontiff. >> bless the lord, o my soul. >> sunday mass at saint mary's cathedral included many prayers for an ailing pope francis. >> for all the sick and those in need of prayer, especially pope francis. >> the pope's latest health struggle taking a critical turn only days after the vatican said he was in stable condition last week. >> we pray for him again that he might enjoy strength and

and aimed to make the church more inclusive. the reforms are drawing controversy among conservatives and liberals, who said it wasn't enough. robbie savage is visiting from l.a. and she got emotional when speaking about the pope. >> well, first of all, it brings tears to my eyes because he's been such a blessing to the world. he's been such a blessing to the world. and may god him health. may god. >> san francisco catholic archdiocese is monitoring the pope's health very closely. prayers will continue at all masses for the pontiff. i'm cornell bernard, abc seven news. >> all right, cornell, we appreciate your report. moving on now to the latest on a story. we're following the search for the person who shot a hillsborough police officer. police say they interviewed a person of interest in south san francisco earlier today, but made no arrests. that shooting happened outside the hillsborough police department yesterday afternoon. police

say an officer was in the parking lot when he was ambushed and shot by an unknown person. the officer then fired back and the gunman ran off. investigators returned to the scene today to gather evidence, and police say ther department was specifically targeted and that hillsborough residents don't have to be concerned. >> hillsborough. burlingame is like the safest neighborhood, and i would never expect anything like this to be happening in my neighborhood. >> the injured officer was treated at a hospital and is expected to be okay. happening tomorrow in the north bay. county officials will talk to the community about what could be four hour long evacuation times in the event of a wildfire. the sonoma county study called staff projects that an hour after an evacuation is announced, traffic on arnold drive and highway 12 between kenwood and the sonoma city limits will slow to 1 to 2 miles an hour. and in a worst case scenario, some residents will face nine hours in

traffic. tomorrow's meeting will be held at altamira middle school on arnold drive at 630. this afternoon, ukrainian-americans and supporters in the bay area held a rally in san francisco. the protesters marched from harry bridges a by the ferry building to pier 39 to mark the third anniversary of russia's war in ukraine. they're calling on the trump administration and congress to facilitate peace and a lasting end to russian aggression. today, ukrainian president zelenskyy said he would step down if it meant peace for his country. with ukraine being granted nato membership. the pentagon is preparing for a shakeup, with thousands of civilian workers facing layoffs this week. as abc news reporter johny fernandez explains, those cuts are among an estimated 300,000 jobs already slashed in the white house effort to shrink the federal workforce. >> one day after firing the nation's top military leader, general cq brown and several other senior leaders, including

lisa f franchetti, the first won to serve as the navy's top admiral. president trump, touting his federal firing spree to a crowd of supporters, gathered at the conservative political action conference on saturday. >> but the people have given us a resounding mandate for dramatic change in washington, and we are going to deliver it, we're going to use it, and we're going to make america great again by using it. >> the president also praised elon musk's campaign to cut government spending. >> he's doing a great job and he doesn't need this. he doesn't need it. but he's he wants to see, you know, he's a patriot. people said, well, what official position does he have? he said, patriot who they didn't know. >> all this comes as the pentagon prepares to lay off 5400 civilian workers, beginning next week, in the first round of cuts that could total tens of thousands, as the pentagon aims to cut between 5 and 8% of its

civilian workforce. president trump insists these cuts are making the government more efficient, but voters across the country are pushing back. polls show voters are unhappy with trump's handling of one of their top issues, inflation, and his campaign promise to bring down prices on day one. johny fernandez, abc news, new york. >> we are learning more today about the doj's employee cuts at yosemite. take a look at the top of the el capitan, where you can see, if you look closely, a group of frustrated staffers who hung an upside down flag in protest. the terminations affect about 1000 newly hired national park service employees, and they include workers who maintain and clean parks, along with others who educate visitors. the park's search and rescue teams have also been impacted. termination letters were sent out last week. >> i mean, nothing will just prepare you for the for the shock that you'll really get once you once you get that letter because, you know, it's

the california department of public health says more than 900 californians, including 15 children, have died from the flu since the beginning of october. that number is higher than the past six flu seasons. most of those deaths have been in people over the age of 65, but 15 children have died, which is raising concern among health officials. public health officials also say there has been a low vaccination rate this year. former vice president kamala harris has received the prestigious chairman's prize at the 56th annual naacp image awards. it was her first major public appearance since leaving office, and she called the civil rights organization a pillar of the black community and urged

now, local restaurants say you'll have to pay more there as well. in sonoma county, the press democrat reports that max deli in santa rosa now has a $2 surcharge on egg dishes. the price increased $1.50 for an egg sandwich on the menu at fruity moto in windsor. there was an avian flu outbreak in sonoma county back in december of 2023, when more than a million birds died. no cases have been reported in the county this year. boy, i just saw some eggs at the grocery store that were $12 a dozen. >> can you believe it? it was hard enough just to find the eggs. then when you find them, you have to pay through the nose. >> i know there's no winning in this situation. >> eggs. don't we? >> that's right, that's right. they're good for us. >> let's do the weather. she's egging me on here. oh,

wow. wow, wow. satellite radar image shows a flow of moisture into the pacific northwest. there's a pretty substantial rainfall up there. now, a few of those sprinkles made it into the bay area early today. mainly the north bay. just trace amounts of rain. we may get a little bit more tomorrow morning, but right now we're looking at breezy conditions. 50 mile per hour wind speeds here in san francisco and down at sfo, ten over at concord, 14mph at fairfield. nothing gusty, just a bit breezy out there. and here's the view from emeryville. looking back tos san francisco, the sun will be setting in about a half hour, so we've got a lot of brightness in the sky 58 degrees here in the city right now, 59 in oakland, 61 apiece in hayward and san jose, 62 redwood city and half moon bay, 55 degrees. clouds are getting lower at the golden gate. visibility, of course, being reduced right now as those clouds get a little bit denser. 66 degrees up in santa rosa right now. 59 in petaluma we have low to mid 60s at fairfield, concord, livermore and napa. and here's our view looking across the embarcadero. thee are our forecast headlines tomorrow. patchy morning drizzle is likely. maybe some patchy fog

in some spots as well tuesday through friday. look for really warm weather. above average temperatures perhaps 10 to 15 degrees above average on wednesday and next weekend will bring cooler weather with a chance of rainfall. here's our overnight forecast animation, showing the clouds getting a little bit thicker, and a few drops of rain may fall way up in the northernmost part of the viewing area. we're not expecting any measurable rain, certainly not area wide, and the skies will start to get a little bit clearer going into the afternoon. tomorrow. it's going to be another mild day. rainfall estimates calling for just trace amounts, nothing even measurable. so let's move along and take a look at overnight low temperatures, mainly in the low 50s. it's a low to mid 50s actually. it's going to be very mild overnight. the cloud cover of course is going to keep the cooling from getting from getting very low and highs tomorrow nice and mild under intervals of clouds and sun. we'll see 60 at half moon bay, 62 here in san francisco, mid to upper 60s, mainly around the bay shoreline and lots of upper
