>> and i'm ama daetz. the deadly overdoses claimed the lives of a 16 year old girl and 18 year old boy over the weekend, while in a separate case, two other teens remain in the hospital tonight. >> now, police have made an arrest. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard spoke with one of the victims parents and has the latest. >> that was my blessing in life. and now she is gone forever. >> veronica campers wants everyone to know about her daughter, 16 year old gia walsh, a girl with big hopes and dreams. >> she had plans to travel the world and be a purveyor of good. >> to come out. >> and justice. and she believed in. >> hope and the dreams of youth. >> but on saturday night, gia was found dead at her grandmother's house in santa rosa along with her 18 year old friend logan, from a suspected fentanyl overdose, according to police. gia was a student at santa rosa high school, where a growing memorial outside is paying tribute to her short

life. >> i remember seeing gia on campus several times. she was just a delightful person. she was always smiling. >> she was friend. logan attended montgomery high school, where students and staff are in mourning. therapy dogs and grief counselors providing support on monday morning. >> i think it's we're just still stunned by the whole event, and we're still stunned that he's not here. i can just tell you i saw him on friday. >> authorities believe the victims thought they were purchasing cocaine. >> however, what we're currently investigating is whether or not the substances they purchased was actually cocaine that was laced with fentanyl, or if it was fentanyl being passed off as cocaine. >> 21 year old ramon nunez, from santa rosa, was arrested sunday in connection with the fatal overdoses. detectives found narcotics in his car packed in small baggies with peace sign logos, a detailed link to the overdose deaths. police say earlier on saturday, two other teenage girls were hospitalized after a separate suspected fentanyl overdose. >> we are currently investigating to determine

whether or not these overdoses are uh- claims. >> the deadly wave of fentanyl laced drugs in the community part of a growing epidemic. principal santos now carries narcan on her keychain to help treat fentanyl overdoses. >> it's a different world than 15 years ago. >> i am against drugs. >> she is. mom says she warned her daughter about the dangers of fentanyl. >> she's scared of it. but here she is now, dead. and i'm calling for mercy. >> in santa rosa. cornell, bernard. abc seven news. >> the suspect, ramon nunez, is facing second degree homicide charges and furnishing narcotics to minors. he is scheduled to be in court tomorrow. >> today, san jose police announced the arrest of five people in connection with the stabbing death of a 15 year old. david gutierrez was killed on valentine's day while on a date with his girlfriend at santana row. police say gutierrez was attacked by a group of teenagers and initially was able to get away. but investigators say a 13

year old chased him down and stabbed him. police say all five suspects are affiliated with a local san jose street gang, and were looking for a confrontation. >> this act was as senseless as it is heartbreaking. it was a tragedy that has shaken our community, and it demands that we speak honestly about the challenges we face in our juvenile justice system. >> the 13 year old. if found guilty, is only likely to serve 6 to 8 months in an unlocked facility. that's according to san jose's police chief. three of the other suspects are 16 years old. one is 18. police say gutierrez had no gang affiliation. >> in oakland, a housing authority police department officer and a suspect are both in the hospital after shooting each other. it happened shortly before 1 a.m. near 85th avenue and g street. police say the officer was conducting a vehicle stop when the driver opened fire, injuring the officer. the officer shot back, hitting the man. both are said to be stable and investigators are looking into what happened in the

moments before the shooting. charges are pending. one adult is dead and a 13 year old is injured following a shooting in west oakland. it happened last night at about 8:00 on 10th street near adeline street. a police say the adult was taken to a nearby hospital where they were pronounced dead. the young teenager was also taken to an area hospital for treatment. the victims names have not yet been released. >> a convenience store robbery in concord friday night ended with an armed suspect shot to death by a store employee. abc seven news reporter leslie brinkley is following the story to find out if the employee will be facing any charges. >> here's a guy with a shotgun walking in. that sound sends a pretty loud message that yes, you all are in danger here. >> this ex-prosecutor in a criminal defense attorney says an employee at psn's fast and easy mart on willow pass road in concord would have had a split second to react when they apparently saw a suspect armed with a shotgun, demanding another coworker open the safe at 1130 friday night. the

employee drew a weapon and fired, killing the suspect. the contra costa district attorney's office said they had no information yet on the case, and referred abc seven news to concord police, who declined to comment on the ongoing investigation. this man saw the suspect walk in. >> i walked in from my house to here and i see the guy walking uh- from that corner and he got the shotgun in his right hand. >> concord police say the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene. >> nobody should be running, roaming the streets with a shotgun and ever criminals. >> for days now, customers are coming by to show their support for the employee who appears to have acted in self defense. >> they're protecting their property and their business. they're protecting their the other employees. >> the store says they've handed over their surveillance video to police and have since installed new cameras.

>> my customers are just coming in in tears. they're coming in and saying, we are so glad you guys are okay. they came and gave us hugs. >> i think the community is not going to put up with this anymore. i think the district attorney is going to be hesitant to file this case because they know if they bring it to a jury, the chances of getting a conviction are rather slim. people in this community are sick and tired of the crimes. they're tired of the petty thefts. >> in concord, i'm leslie brinkley, abc seven news. >> justice today in a santa clara county courtroom for a teenager killed 42 years ago in sunnyvale. gary gene ramirez pleaded no contest in the 1982 murder of 15 year old karen stitt. the cold case was solved two years ago when sunnyvale police used advances in dna evidence to arrest ramirez, who, 77, now a stitt who was found tied up by the arms and legs, was stabbed 59 times near a sunnyvale bus stop. ramirez

faces 25 years to life in prison. he will be sentenced in may. >> recalled alameda county district attorney pamela price is gearing up to enter a new phase in her professional life. today, abc seven news reporter luz pena sat down with price, who says she's ready to set the record straight with a direct line to alameda county residents. >> from alameda county district attorney to podcast host. >> check out pamela price unfiltered. i'm pamela price, your host. and that's where we get to correct the record. >> this is price's new venture. just three months after being recalled by voters. >> folks urged me to be part of the community and have a voice again. >> i think it's really interesting how you just said to have a voice again. and the name of your podcast is pamela price unfiltered. so what have you been holding back? >> oh, many things that i could not talk about while i was in the district attorney's office. you know, i have a lot of opinions. i have a lot of information about things that we

weren't able to share. when you're in a that kind of a position, there are so many things that the public doesn't know. >> we sat down with price to have an unfiltered conversation about her take on becoming the first african-american woman to hold the county's top prosecutor job, and then getting voted out. what are some of your regrets. >> that the voters decided to end my term prematurely? you know, the way the government works, it takes time. and so we were not given enough time, really, to roll out all the things that we wanted to do. i wanted to do a lot more training with the lawyers. i think that they could. they do need training on a lot of issues. i think that i wanted to fully finish setting up the public accountability unit. >> price wanted to reform the county's justice system and was known for pursuing alternatives to mass incarceration, something she still believes in. do you think those progressive values, those progressive policies, are

appeals court upheld the conviction of theranos founder elizabeth holmes. she was sentenced in 2022 to 11 years in prison for defrauding investors in the former palo alto blood testing startup. the court upheld the fraud conviction and holmes's sentence. it's also standing by the $452 million restitution order to be paid by holmes and her former partner, ramesh sunny balwani, who is serving nearly 13 years in prison. >> elon musk has ordered thousands of federal workers to list their accomplishments from the past week or face potential termination. >> and it comes as thousands of workers have already been fired. an email was sent demanding a reply with five bullet points by midnight tonight. musk is warning that failing to respond will be taken as a resignation. today, president trump said he applauds the move. >> there was a lot of genius in sending it. we're trying to find out if people are working. if people don't respond, it's very

possible that there is no such person or they're not working. >> the work that we do, it matters. and we won't know how much it matters until we're presented with another catastrophic disaster. >> federal unions have filed a lawsuit asking a judge to immediately block the trump administration from continuing to fire and fire employees and require the white house to reinstate the employees that have already been laid off. a hearing on that is set for thursday. >> today, a federal judge refused to immediately order the white house to restore the associated press's access to presidential events. he said the news organization had not demonstrated it suffered any irreparable harm. but the judge urged the trump administration to reconsider its ban. the trump administration banned the associated press about two weeks ago, after the agency didn't follow president trump's executive order renaming the gulf of mexico as the gulf of america. >> president trump hosted french president emmanuel macron at the white house today. russia and

ukraine were at the top of the agenda as the country's mark three years of war. the presidents met in the oval office before taking questions in the east room. president trump says he believes the war could end soon. macron says that peace must not mean ukraine surrenders and repeatedly emphasized the need for security guarantees as part of any agreement to stop the hostilities. >> and ukrainian president volodymyr zelensky welcomed world leaders to mark the three years of the russian invasion. more than a dozen leaders, including canadian prime minister justin trudeau, attended commemorative events in kyiv in a show of support. the u.s. did not send any senior officials to the occasion. the trump administration appears to be embracing the kremlin in a reversal of american policy. >> still ahead, exciting news for the medical community as the fda approves new treatment for parkinson's disease. and it's based on technology developed at

weather. saturday came, and i was planning to go to the beach sunday. and then sunday came. yeah, it was a little. just turned. >> turned a little bit. meteorologist sandhya patel is here with the forecast. no beach on sunday. >> yeah, i was going to say. seems a little bit disappointed. dan, let's take a look at a live picture right now. probably disappointed with today's weather too. but don't worry because the next couple of days i think you're going to enjoy. look at this live picture. it's socked in on the golden gate bridge. we have had some damp pavement as well. a few hundredths of an inch here and there. as you take a look at live doppler seven. a lot of cloud cover, certainly with a front coming through. we are going to continue to see the possibility of a few more sprinkles. area of low pressure has been pushing towards the pacific northwest. they got hammered with an atmospheric river, but still continuing to see the rain and snow. high pressure is going to take control of our weather and as it does the next couple of days, do expect brighter skies. not bright right now, that's for sure. we have a lot of cloud cover on live doppler seven, in case you want to head to the

beach and enjoy some sunshine, do watch out! we have a beach hazard statement that starts at 4 a.m. tomorrow. runs until 4 a.m. wednesday. long period westerly swell with breakers 15 to 18ft will raise the risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. doesn't that look gorgeous from our santa cruz camera right now? 58 degrees in the city. low 60s, oakland, hayward, san jose. you're at a mild 64 along with redwood city and from our exploratorium camera, it is pretty cloudy. 57 right now in santa rosa, 59 in napa, low 60s fairfield, concord, livermore. you can barely make out the sun from our emeryville camera. overnight clouds and areas of fog. next few days, sunnier skies and spring like weather. and then this weekend, we do have a chance of rain. so let's talk about what's going to happen tonight. still, a lot of clouds and fog. might see a few more sprinkles tonight before this is all done. tomorrow morning, 5:00. you're already starting to see some of the clearing in the north bay. and then eventually everyone starts to see the clearing. lot of sun out there for your tuesday

afternoon. your morning temperatures will range from the upper 30s to the upper 40s as we head into the afternoon hours. look at this. just a bright sunny day. 61 in half moon bay, 69, san jose. santa rosa, 67, in san rafael, mid 60s san francisco, oakland 68 degrees in concord. now on wednesday those temperatures are going to go up some more. we'll have some mid 70s for our warmest locations thursday still pretty mild and above average. and then as we head towards friday, temperatures do start to scale back looking ahead at our rain chances. so first it's this area of high pressure. next time we see the opportunity for real. rain is not going to be until saturday, possibly heading into sunday. so that's when we have some wet weather chances in the forecast. the accuweather seven day forecast. enjoy the sunnier skies, the milder weather. we'll be seeing mid 70s midweek and continuing into thursday. above average friday and then march 1st arrives and the weather pattern changes. and for oscar sunday we do have a chance of
