between the department of justice, fbi, solano county sheriff's office, and the vallejo police department. >> abc seven news reporter luz pena was there for today's announcement and joins us live with the latest. luis. >> yes, emma. this was a multi-agency effort that started july of last year. today, vallejo pd calling this outcome a huge success that involved two operations, one last thursday and a second one this morning. the first operation was at a motel eight, where agents found an open air firearm market. law enforcement officers arrested four individuals there last thursday. the second operation was described as an extensive operation on the brown brotherhood gang, where law enforcement agents made several arrests at multiple locations. one of those locations was a daycare. >> and there are four federal arrests last week of people who were trafficking firearms, selling them to people who should not who aren't allowed to have firearms. and these are all

kinds of firearms. >> the gang is known to be involved in various criminal activities, including murder, robbery, extortion, drug trafficking, firearms trafficking, burglary, stolen vehicles, victim witness intimidation. i can i can go on. >> we are taking this very seriously, and we have sent a clear message that we are prioritizing public safety. >> and going back to that operation that took place this morning. agents found 12 firearms, 11,000 fentanyl pills and at least $100,000 in cash. these agencies confirming they were after a male suspect that was inside that daycare. his mom was running the daycare. they also confirmed one child was being dropped off during that operation. we'll have more for you during our 6 p.m. newscast live here in vallejo. luz pena, abc seven news. >> thank you very much. well, new details in the stabbing death of a 15 year old boy at

san jose's santana row. court documents reveal he wasn't the only one attacked that evening. according to the mercury news, the group of gang affiliated teenagers accused in his stabbing were also believed to be involved in a previous attack just 40 minutes earlier. the documents also show the victim, david gutierrez, was stabbed three times. gutierrez was not in a gang, but police believe he was targeted because he was wearing red, which is the color of the group's gang rivals. >> in san francisco, dozens of drug dealers were arrested overnight during a raid at jefferson square park. residents near the park say the area has been a haven for drug dealers and users in the past few months, possibly as a result of efforts to crack down on drug markets in other parts of the city. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn joins us live to explain. suzanne. >> so, ama, this was a huge effort with police officers, sheriffs deputies, park rangers and other agencies. neighbors say they're so relieved the city finally did something about the park, an area they say has become a hotbed of drug dealing and drug use. sebastian luke,

who doesn't want to be identified, says neighbors have been complaining for months. they're frustrated and fed up with the drug dealers and users at jefferson square park. >> the neighbors complaining about the drug use the feces, needles. >> so when authorities moved in quietly wednesday night. >> i was very shocked. i saw one big bus. the sheriff took the bus and i saw about like 100 agents, about 100 agents of dea and undercover cops. >> luke captured these pictures of the large scale operation to crack down on all the illegal activity at the park. san francisco police shared this video. the police chief says officers arrested 84 people and confiscated more than a pound of drugs, including fentanyl. >> we had a multitude of people out there, all with the same single purpose, and that is to make these communities safer and stop this whack a mole thing that we're seeing. when drug dealers and users go from one

community to the next, when they get pressure. >> city leaders and residents alike say they've seen drug dealing and illegal activity move from neighborhood to neighborhood. jefferson square park is in san francisco. supervisor bilal mahmood's district. there was a mix of dealing people, illegal street vending, as well as people suffering from addiction. so it's definitely worse than it's been in a long time. >> mahmood applauds the crackdown and says with the new mayoral administration, there's a focus on new strategies to curb drug markets. >> i think it sends a message that this will not be tolerated in our city any longer. and the city, in partnership with all the city departments and the mayor, are working seriously to address this crisis. >> for luke and all the concerned people who have complained to authorities about jackson square park. >> yes, i'm very relieved that, you know, action was taken and people were arrested. we need to send a clear message that you cannot invade this neighborhood and do drugs, trash our

neighborhood. >> this afternoon, neighbors told me that some drug users have started returning to jackson square park. now, supervisor mahmood wants city leaders to consider a new drug market intervention strategy. he believes paying for 24 over seven staffing to keep a close eye on some of our neighborhoods will prevent illegal drug activity from coming back. live in the newsroom suzanne phan abc seven news. >> all right. thank you. suzanne. and meantime, san francisco mayor daniel lurie says this year's lunar new year was a huge success in safety and celebration. he says they saw a 30% drop in crime that weekend compared to last year. the safest one since 2017. mayor lurie attributes it to a team effort. every single sworn officer on the force was working that weekend, and 9-1-1 operators answered 84% of their calls in 15 seconds or less. >> the results we saw last weekend over the lunar new year parade and all star weekend are the proof that we know that we

can achieve results. my administration is committed to building on this progress. san francisco's comeback is just getting started. >> and hope you don't mind just saying. local leaders also touted the parade's official partnership with abc seven. kind enough to call us out for that. putting on a number one rated show of the entire day with a boost in viewership. you can still catch all of the highlights wherever you stream abc seven news. >> now to the latest from the trump administration. late this afternoon, we learned that doge has begun moving forward with mass layoffs at the national oceanic and atmospheric administration, known as noah. according to the chronicle, noah's west coast work could be impacted, with some offices losing a quarter of their staff. the head of the center for biological diversity called the mass firings an act of sabotage by the president aimed at one of the most important federal agencies. a legal setback for president trump. today, a federal judge in san francisco ruled the recent mass firings of federal workers are unlawful.

the judge ordered the office of personnel management to rescind directives to agencies like the department of defense and the park service. the ruling comes in response to a lawsuit by labor unions claiming officials lacked the authority to order terminations, and that notices to workers were cited a lie of poor judge performance. >> today, the presidio trust punched back after president trump issued an executive order last week calling for the elimination of the federal agency that operates the national park. trump says the goal is to minimize government waste and abuse. but the trust's latest numbers show the presidio is actually bringing in plenty of revenue. abc seven news political reporter monica madden is here, with more on the trust's money. monica. >> dan. according to the presidio trust, it broke record earnings last year with $182 million in revenue for 2024. and since it stopped receiving money from congress in 2013, it's generated more than 350 million in net operating income. now,

unlike other national parks, the presidio is financially independent. primarily, the presidio earns money by restoring and renting out historic military buildings to businesses and residents. recently, the trust earned a $200 million federal grant to help with upkeep and maintenance. and on top of that, the agency said it has raised $750 million in private funding to continue those improvements. now, it's unclear why president trump is targeting the presidio, but some suspect it's a jab at speaker nancy pelosi, who played a key role in establishing the trust. >> it's making a profit. it is running the presidio beautifully. it's amazing for anyone who's been there. it's a great experience. there's businesses there, nonprofits. so it's a great organization and just shows that what what donald trump is doing here has nothing to do with government efficiency or with the merits and everything to do with being

and ocean science center in tiburon is closing after 47 years because of a lack of funding and budget cuts, directors say vital research into the bay's complex ecosystems is in jeopardy, but they hope a new source of funding will surface to keep the doors open. >> with the story, here's abc seven news reporter cornell bernard. >> there's a lot happening on this remote stretch of tiburon's northern coastline when it comes to understanding how the bay works beneath the surface. >> we're the only marine lab on san francisco bay, and that is a really neat thing for us because, you know, it gives us a lot of opportunity to study things that other people can't. >> things like understanding climate change and sea level rise to restoring eelgrass beds and monitoring water quality. but now the estuary and ocean science center's interim executive director, catherine boyer, says that research could come to an end after san francisco state, which runs the program, recently announced there is no funding to keep it going. >> that was a surprise. we didn't actually see it coming with that timing.

>> i think it's hard to be around this place and not be concerned with what's going on. >> she is one of 30 graduate students trying to finish research projects, his involved sea life interactions. >> it's hard to plan an experiment when you don't know what facilities and what resources you have available to you. >> here in the genetics lab, research projects are continuing for now at least. but deadlines are looming and the stress level is building. >> there's been a rush that i've been given this very hard deadline to finish as fast as possible. >> eric ortiz says a lot of federal funding has been put on pause as well. >> i mean, i think it's going to be a huge loss, right? not just for what's happening locally, but there's a lot of different kind of relationships that this lab has with people from all over the world. >> san francisco state, now facing a $25 million budget deficit. the university says the closure of the center will allow san francisco state to redirect critical funding into the main campus. how much money do you need to survive here? >> well, we're looking for about

trying to roll out this service in austin, texas. >> all right, let's turn our attention to the forecast. weekend is almost here. >> that's right. meteorologist andy patel has a look at some changes coming for us. andy. >> yeah. ama and dan get ready to bring out the layers and the umbrellas this weekend. let me show you the temperatures for today. it was another warm one by winter standards. 77 in san jose, 79 degrees for you in santa rosa, 72 in the city 76. oakland, 69, in concord. it's pretty comfortable right now. still warm in many areas. mid 70s around hayward, santa rosa. as we check out what it looks like. high pressure on live doppler seven has been the dominant feature which brought us the warmth. but one thing we did notice is the solar insulation, if you will, was cut off by some higher clouds. this cut off low has been sending us these clouds, and that's really going to continue as we head into the night. you can see them here on live doppler seven. a beach hazard statement is going up tomorrow night until 9 a.m. saturday. westerly swell is coming, breakers up to 12ft

during this time period. increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. that gets replaced by a high surf advisory saturday morning to monday night as those breakers build up to 19ft. so it is going to be dangerous to swim or surf. not yet. it's still pleasant, as you can see from our santa cruz camera, going hour by hour if you are stepping out tonight at 615 temperatures mainly in the 60s and 7050s coastside heading into 8 p.m. still mild. and then tomorrow morning we begin with 4050. some patchy fog. tomorrow afternoon you're looking at a mild 160 and 70. your morning temperatures will look like this. 40s and 50. watch out. there will be some fog right near the coastline with reduced visibility. and then tomorrow afternoon, we'll still call it above average mid 70s in places like livermore, fairfield, 67. in the city, you're looking at 72 in palo alto. and we go hour by hour saturday morning, some drizzle. this is when the changes begin. saturday night, some spotty showers showing up.
