litigate this in front of the american media. right now, you guys are going around. >> a senior white house official tells abc news. zelensky was then escorted to a holding room, then told the president demanded that he leave the white house. president trump posted on social media this afternoon that zelensky can return when he's ready for peace. what happened at the white house certainly sent shockwaves through the entire political community. >> a bay area congressman just happened to be holding a meeting with constituents tonight in the south bay. >> abc seven news reporter lauren martinez was there as he addressed what happened in washington. >> more than 300 people packed west valley college theater in saratoga for congressman sam liccardo's first town hall meeting since being elected. >> i'm going to tell you how we're fighting. >> before the meeting got underway on friday night, he addressed the heated exchange that stretched roughly five minutes between vice president vance, president trump and ukrainian president zelensky.

was disrespectful, and i don't know if we can ever do business with zelensky again. >> graham went on to say zelensky should resign or change how he does business. >> all right, let's move on. a live look outside tonight and this picture is going to change in a few hours. there is rain on the way. meteorologist sandia patel is here with when it's going to arrive. >> sandia dan tomorrow night. yes it is back to reality here in the bay area weekend storm. it's a level one on live doppler seven inching towards our region. it's already pushing a westerly swell in our direction. beach hazards statement until 9 a.m. tomorrow. breakers up to 14ft 9:00 tomorrow morning to 9 p.m. monday. it becomes a high surf advisory as the waves will be building up to 19ft. so be careful. and here comes the showers at 7 p.m. moving in tomorrow night, continuing at 9 p.m. and then we see a little more of the push on sunday morning. there's even the possibility of thunderstorms. as you look at this forecast for

sunday. so it is a level one on our storm impact scale. do expect showers, breezy conditions, chance of thunder and dangerous surf. i'll be back to let you know how the rest of your weekend is shaping up in just a few minutes. >> all right. thank you. sandia. new details have just been released about that deadly piedmont crash that killed three college students. home for thanksgiving break. it happened the night before thanksgiving. >> the. >> chp says the cause of the accident was the cybertruck was going at a high rate of speed, and the driver was unable to negotiate the curve due to being impaired driving under the influence. soren dixon, krista tsukahara, and jack nelson died. dixon was the driver. a fourth student, jordan miller, survived. two friends were in another car behind the cybertruck and came upon the crash. one of them tried to help by smashing a window and was able to pull miller out of the wreckage. the person then tried to rescue krista, but the flames overtook the vehicle. we've learned the evening started around 830 with a group of friends gathering at a house in piedmont. they hung out for hours and drinks were involved.

the witness says around 3 a.m, they left and went to dixon's home because he wanted to get the cybertruck. three people got into the cybertruck with him. two others stayed in the other car, following the cybertruck. the person driving that other car says soren was driving normally, but when he turned the corner onto hampton road, he saw the car on fire. a few weeks ago, a toxicology report showed all four people in the cybertruck tested positive for cocaine, marijuana and also alcohol. a student was arrested for bringing a gun to a fremont middle school. school administrators searched the student's backpack and located the firearm at centerville middle school. police say the student never pulled the gun on anyone or made any sort of threats, but that student has been arrested on gun related offenses, with the potential of more charges to come. >> a teacher in the north bay has been arrested on suspicion of lewd acts with a student. the suspect is a teacher at cesar chavez language academy in santa rosa. although his biography has

been removed from the school website, we're told he's also a football and lacrosse coach at rancho cotate high school in rohnert park. police say they received a tip about the crimes which led to the arrest last night. the suspect is charged with crimes against one student. but detectives are trying to determine whether there may have been other victims. a daylong economic blackout is coming to a close. a nationwide call to action ends at midnight. organizers called for no shopping today at the country's biggest retail stores. they say the goal is to show corporations who really holds the power. for some bay area shoppers, that meant shopping at small business locations today. >> for one day. it's a great start, but i think the real impact we need to make is we need to put it into our regular purchasing practices. we need to be shopping local sunday through saturday. >> organizers say today's boycotts was also designed to show disapproval with the trump administration for rolling back corporate diversity, equity and

inclusion, or dei programs. >> time now for our abc seven news at 11, helping you get ahead on the headlines coming up over the next few days. our first adventure tonight looks ahead to tomorrow's rally against a new migrant detention center. it's in response to ice considering converting the now closed fci dublin prison. the facility was closed last year for inmate safety reasons after years of reported abuse that included poor physical conditions like mold, asbestos and crumbling infrastructure. the rally tomorrow outside the prison calls for the site to remain permanently closed. another advancer for tomorrow. we will be getting an update on the transformation of san francisco's great highway into a park space. the recreation and park department will be providing a timeline for the construction and opening, along with maps and designs. they'll detail all that will be included, like public art, fitness equipment, a bicycle pump track, and skating features. >> our last adventure is controversial. there is a bill that would literally allow hunters to chase and scare black

bears up into trees by using dogs. the practice, called hounding, was banned more than a decade ago. abc seven news reporter tara campbell, with who's behind the proposal and the response from activists. >> outcry friday from those working to keep california's black bears safe. responding to an attempt to bring back the use of hound dogs to hunt bears, a tactic outlawed more than a decade ago. >> it is so cruel in every possible way. >> and bryant is the executive director of the bear league, leading the opposition to assembly bill 1038, introduced by assembly member heather chadwick, representing tahoe. >> it's a ploy to bring back hounding. >> hounding is the practice of putting gps collars on packs of dogs, who then chase down bears for hours. eventually bears retreating up a tree. and that's when the hunters step in. >> and then they shoot the bear because, like i said, he can't fly away. he doesn't have wings. they shoot him, and then he tumbles down through the branches, sometimes just

breaking bones on the way down, getting badly injured, sometimes dying on the way down or from the gunshot. >> in a statement, assemblymember chadwick says the bill is intended to control the black bear population, reading in part california's black bear population is out of control. more than doubling in the past decade. human bear encounters have skyrocketed as a result, leading to ecological disruption, property damage, and the first confirmed fatal black bear attack in the state. >> this is not a bill to that even remotely addresses any kind of bear human conflict issue. >> according to the state's 2024 bear conservation plan, there is strong evidence that the black bear populations have been stable over the past decade. >> the only population that's increased is the human population within bear territory. >> pointing to people as being largely responsible for the bump in bear sightings and encounters. >> why don't we clean up our trash issues and stop putting

setback that has him on a ventilator for breathing assistance. they're calling it an isolated coughing fit that led to the pontiff being put on the noninvasive mechanical ventilator. it's the latest change in his two week long battle against double pneumonia. the 88 year old pope remained conscious and alert. doctors say they'll need 24 to 48 hours to evaluate how and if the episode impacted his overall condition. >> new information tonight on the investigation into the deaths of oscar winning actor gene hackman and his wife. the sheriff of santa fe, new mexico, says the couple both tested negative for carbon monoxide. they were found dead in their home in santa fe on wednesday. the sheriff also says that hackman's pacemaker turned off last monday. investigators say the initial autopsy did not find

an obvious cause of death, so it is quite the mystery. they're now looking at cell phone data to try and build a timeline of the couple's final days. the tide in malibu is pulling out debris from homes and businesses destroyed in the los angeles wildfires. remnants of structures are drifting out into the ocean, some floating off the coast. a bigger chunks are scattered along the shoreline. this video was taken near the pacific coast highway just yesterday. the epa this week said it's completed phase one of its wildfire cleanup plan. crews have been sorting and removing hazardous materials from many damaged properties. >> take a look at this amazing sight from yosemite national park. on wednesday, a photographer captured what may be the final yosemite firefall of the year. this is time lapse video. the phenomenon usually occurs in mid to late february at horsetail fall, on the eastern edge of el capitan, just before sunset. the sun hits the waterfall at a certain angle and

gives the waterfall the appearance of a fiery ribbon, turning it molten orange. >> and it really is just spectacular. coolest thing? well, happening tomorrow, the oakland ballers will hold their first ever fan fest. it's going to be held at the prescott market in raimondi park, which is where the ballers play their games. this sounds like last year's event. the fan fest, which was a grassroots effort by a's fans. the team is gone, but the spirit is living on, with last dive bar teaming up with the oakland 68 for this year's event. this is being touted as a celebration for all of oakland's teams. >> the countdown is on. we are just less than 48 hours from hollywood's big night, the oscars, which will be right here on abc seven on sunday. >> among the list of nominees is the team behind inside out two. our friends from emeryville based pixar. >> abc seven mornings anchor amanda delcastillo caught up with the crew being recognized for their animated feature. she's in los angeles for hollywood's big night. >> and for best animated feature film. here are the nominees.

inside out two. >> inside out two is in the highest grossing film of 2024. nominated for best animated feature. the emeryville based team behind the beloved hit beaming with joy over the oscars nod. >> i hosted oscar parties, printed out the ballots, and it's pretty crazy that we made a movie that's going to be on one of those ballots. it's pretty amazing. >> director kelsey mann and producer mark nielsen opening up about the nomination, adding to the film's monumental year of recognition. >> we owe such a debt of gratitude to the first film. inside out was so beloved, and what a pleasure it was for us to be able to follow such a great film. but that film had such a beautiful message to it. we worked really hard to try to kind of have something to say with this one. so we're we're really proud of how it came together. and mann, a hard working crew that just really poured their hearts into this. >> and at the heart of the film, familiar friends joy, anger,

some rain today. we had record highs to talk about san jose tying the last record set back in 1924 of 77 degrees. santa rosa breaking the old record 79. look at that oakland 74. a tie for today. say goodbye to the mild spring like weather, because here comes a storm system on live doppler seven. we're already seeing a lot of fog out ahead of it. some higher clouds as well. here's a look at visibility. it's down to five miles in half moon bay. earlier tonight it was about a half a mile, so be careful as we take a look at some live pictures. sutro and exploratorium showing you the fog just shrouding san francisco temperatures right now, anywhere from the 40s to the 60. here's a look at the storm impact scale. we have a level one tomorrow night into sunday. showers, breezy conditions, a chance of thunderstorms on sunday, and dangerous surf is coming your way. so tomorrow night it's not a washout for your saturday plans, but carry an umbrella at 7:00. some showers coming through 9:00 as well. and then here comes the more organized
