of the bay bridge. and here's what you can expect with your day planner. so fog, mist, drizzle, even a few sprinkles. near 50 degrees this morning. we'll get some partly cloudy conditions, but things will be breezy. and so that's why temperatures will be coming down compared to yesterday. only in the mid to upper 60. around the bay and inland areas and at the coast. upper 50s. the showers arrive tonight and that will continue through tomorrow morning. and i'll let you know how much more rain we can expect with the accuweather seven day forecast. stephanie. >> all right, frances, thank you. president zelenskyy is in london today following his meeting with president trump at the white house. the ukrainian president was in washington to sign an agreement that would give the u.s. access to the country's mineral resources. but that visit was cut short, as you just saw, following a war of words with the president. abc news reporter perry russom has the very latest. >> ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy in london ahead of a summit on sunday with european and nato leaders. the event, hosted by uk prime minister keir

starmer following a contentious visit to the white house friday that was cut short after what was supposed to be a diplomatic meeting with president trump turned into a shouting match. >> we're not in a good position. you don't have the cards right now with us. you start having cards. cards right now you don't. you're playing cards. you're playing cards. you're gambling with the lives of millions of people. you're gambling with. world war three. >> zelenskyy was at the white house to sign an agreement giving the u.s. access to ukraine's mineral resources. there, he expressed hesitation about a broader ceasefire deal that does not include security guarantees, pointing to vladimir putin breaking past peace deals. >> he broken the ceasefire, he killed our people and he didn't exchange prisoners. we signed the exchange of prisoners, but he didn't do it. what kind of diplomacy jd you are speaking about? >> sources say trump demanded zelenskyy leave the white house and cut his visit short, leaving the previously agreed upon minerals deal unsigned. later,

hall meeting since being elected, and before that meeting got underway friday night, he addressed that heated exchange that stretched roughly five minutes between vice president vance, president trump and ukrainian president zelensky. liccardo said betraying ukraine will cause long term, irreparable damage. he called president trump the reincarnation of neville chamberlain. >> was best known in history for what he gave away to hitler. uh. it has been said that 90% of what authoritarians gain in power is yielded not by force, but by consent. >> congressman john garamendi said the president further aligned himself with putin. now the looming tariff threats could greatly impact consumers and hurt the u.s. economy. that's according to new data, which shows consumers cut their spending by 0.2% in january. it's the biggest cut since february 2021, despite inflation being down. president trump imposed new import taxes as well

on canada, mexico and china. the federal reserve's atlanta branch projects the u.s. economy will drop 1.5% annually if this plan goes through. now, president trump's address to congress will take place on tuesday. we'll have live coverage beginning at 6 p.m, including the democratic response. we're following new details that have just been released about that deadly piedmont crash that killed three college students home for thanksgiving break. abc seven news anchor ama daetz has new details just released by the chp. >> the chp says the cause of the accident was the cybertruck was going at a high rate of speed, and the driver was unable to negotiate the curve due to being impaired driving under the influence. soaring dixon, krista o'hara and jack nelson died. dixon was the driver. a fourth student, jordan miller, survived. two friends were in another car behind the cybertruck and came upon the crash. one of them tried to help by smashing a window and was able to pull miller out of the wreckage. the person then tried

to rescue krista, but the flames overtook the vehicle. we've learned the evening started around 830 with a group of friends gathering at a house in piedmont. they hung out for hours and drinks were involved. the witness says around 3 a.m, they left and went to soren dixon's home because he wanted to get the cybertruck. three people got into the cybertruck with him. two others stayed in the other car, following the cybertruck. the person driving that other car says soren was driving normally, but when he turned the corner onto hampton road, he saw the car on fire. >> that was ama daetz reporting. now, a few weeks ago, a toxicology report showed all four people in the cybertruck tested positive for cocaine, marijuana and alcohol. now we have another warning about the dangers of fentanyl, this time coming from the sonoma county district attorney's office. it comes after two teens overdosed on the synthetic drug. d-a karla rodriguez wants the public to be aware of using any illicit drugs because it could likely be

laced, that is, with fentanyl. she called for a countrywide approach to fentanyl and further education about it. two santa rosa high school students died from fentanyl poisoning just last weekend. authorities say both students were buying cocaine, but it was laced. a mother of one of the victims got emotional after sharing memories of her daughter. >> she had plans to travel the world and be a purveyor of good. >> to come out. arthur. >> a 21 year old suspect, has since been arrested for selling the drugs to those two minors. last year, there were 110 fatal overdoses and 59 of those deaths were related to fentanyl. happening today a rally against a new migrant detention center. it's in response to ice considering converting the now closed fci dublin prison. the facility was closed last year for inmate safety reasons after years of reported abuse that included poor physical

conditions like mold, asbestos and crumbling infrastructure. the rally calls for the site to remain permanently closed. the measles outbreak continues to grow in texas, and that has health officials across the country on high alert. the number of measles cases associated with an outbreak in western texas has grown to 146. almost all of the cases are in unvaccinated people, or people whose vaccination status is not known. a majority of the cases are among children and teens between the ages of five and 17. one death was reported in an unvaccinated child. it marks the first measles death here in the u.s. in a decade. the cdc confirmed 93 cases in eight states so far, including california. there have been measles exposures at los angeles international airport. the infected traveler passed through terminal b at lax last month. public health officials say the passenger was an infant headed back to orange county and was

not a resident of l.a. this comes amid the growing cases of the measles outbreak in texas, and measles is a viral infection that spreads through the air and via droplets. experts say most cases come from unvaccinated children. now, health officials say this year's flu season is the worst the u.s. has experienced in 15 years, and cases are still driving hospitalizations in the state. health officials gathered to talk about what to expect now and the season ahead. here's abc seven news reporter leslie brinkley. >> it's the worst flu season since 2010. 29 million cases, 16,000 deaths. and it's not over yet. >> if anybody has symptoms right now in california and the us, more likely than not it's going to be flu. i think more than 60% of what's going around now is probably flu. >> the hospitalization rate is the highest it's been in 15 years, and there have been also nearly 100 child deaths. the

good news? activity is on the decline. >> the flu numbers have been dropping for two weeks, but there have been. this is the second little peak in our flu season. and there have been years when there's been a third, which would be maybe 2 or 3 weeks out from now. so we are certainly not out of the woods. and if there's someone who hasn't been vaccinated, there is still a reasonable chance that it would help. >> the discussion on vaccines took a political turn, as medical experts expressed alarm because this week's regularly scheduled fda meeting on next year's flu vaccine was canceled with no reason given. >> an anti-vaccine activist leading the country's top health agency is not dangerous. it's a public health disaster waiting to happen. flu vaccination rates are low across california. >> knowing what to target for next season is critical for vaccine development, especially after this brutal flu season.

expect to see another price jump in our bills this month. the gas and electric company says bills will rise about $3 for an average household in march, according to the chronicle. the average household bill is expected to be nearly $300. the raise comes after a historic year of p-g-and-e's bill hikes, where the average household bill reached $440 more annually compared to 2023. well, the countdown is on. we're just one day and a few hours away from hollywood's biggest night, the oscars, which will be right here on abc seven this sunday. and among the list of nominees is the team behind inside out two. our friends from emeryville based pixar, abc seven news anchor amanda delcastillo, caught up with the crew being recognized for their animated feature. >> and for best animated feature film. here are the nominees.

inside out two. >> inside out two is in the highest grossing film of 2024. nominated for best animated feature. the emeryville based team behind the beloved hit beaming with joy over the oscars nod. >> i hosted oscar parties, printed out the ballots, and it's pretty crazy that we made a movie that's going to be on one of those ballots. it's pretty amazing. >> director kelsey mann and producer mark nielsen opening up about the nomination, adding to the film's monumental year of recognition. >> we owe such a debt of gratitude to the first film. inside out was so beloved, and what a pleasure it was for us to be able to follow such a great film. but that film had such a beautiful message to it. we worked really hard to try to kind of have something to say with this one. so we're we're really proud of how it came together. and mann, a hard working crew that just really poured their hearts into this. >> and at the heart of the film, familiar friends joy, anger, disgust, sadness and fear.

brutalist last night. conclave was amazing. stanley tucci seeing him. but yeah, it's going to be a great night in hollywood. i'm excited to see amanda there. >> it's great to see amanda there. and if you're staying home, it will also be good weather because temperatures will be cooler and we're going to see some rain arrive. so here's a look at live doppler seven and the satellite radar image. we had a few sprinkles this morning and we could continue to see some, but the main activity will be coming this evening. gray skies over sfo right now. temperatures hovering near 50 degrees for oakland, hayward, redwood city and half moon bay. a little warmer in san jose at 51 and san francisco cooler at 49 degrees. and you can see the camera shaking because of the wind that will pick up today, and that onshore flow will cause temperatures to cool down compared to yesterday in santa rosa and petaluma, 46 concord and livermore, also in the mid 40s. so the system that arrives is a level one on our storm impact scale tonight through tomorrow morning, mainly showers will be continuing overnight and

the breeze will pick up. tomorrow morning is when we get our best chance of thunderstorms, and that's when we could see some brief heavy downpours. and this is also bringing us some dangerous surf conditions at the beaches. so futurecast shows possibly some sprinkles right along the coast of san francisco at 7:00 this morning, and then some activity coming. it looks like the model just updated and we're not seeing too many light showers this evening, but when you are under shower, you might want to have an umbrella handy. looks like some possibly heavier showers expected tomorrow morning. you can see that there, possibly through the santa cruz mountains. and that's when we could get some of those heavier rainfall. but it will be brief. and then notice by lunchtime, mostly drying out into sunday evening. so rainfall totals are not too high. in fact generally less than a quarter of an inch, many areas only getting a few hundredths of an inch. and there's a high surf advisory that starts at 9:00 today. so we

could see waves up to 20ft. that does make for dangerous conditions at the beaches. also, a winter storm advisory for the sierra up to ten inches above 6000ft. and this starts tonight and continues to monday at about 1 p.m. and that's when it expires. highs today will be cooler generally in the 60s. so some mid to upper 60s in parts of the east bay san francisco only 59 degrees. overnight lows will be generally in the 40s. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so the showers arrive tonight and it will be a wet start for oscar sunday. cloudy and cooler though temperatures drop by about ten degrees in some spots, and then a little bit of a break on monday. another system tuesday and wednesday. but it is also a light system at this point. >> yeah, good to know. and as far as the timing when it will taper off tomorrow. >> tomorrow around lunchtime, i mean we won't rule out some light showers in the evening but

for breathing assistance. they're calling it an isolated coughing fit that led to the pontiff being put on the noninvasive mechanical ventilator. it's the latest change in his two week long battle against double pneumonia. the 88 year old pope remained conscious and alert. doctors say they'll need 24 to 48 hours to evaluate how and if this episode impacted his overall condition. new information now on the investigation into the deaths of oscar winning actor gene hackman and his wife. the sheriff of santa fe, new mexico, says the couple both tested negative for carbon monoxide poisoning. they were found dead in their home in santa fe on wednesday. the

sheriff also said hackman's pacemaker turned off last monday. investigators say the initial autopsy did not find an obvious cause of death. they're now looking into cell phone data to try and build a timeline of the couple's final days. extra security will be around for this year's mardi gras celebration in new orleans. the federal coordinator says additional tactical teams and police presence will be present for the annual celebration. it comes after the terrorist attack on new year's day that killed 14 people on bourbon street. president biden granted the city a special event assessment ratings, or seer one. this means more federal security will be present. mardi gras kicks off this tuesday. well, new developments now, oakland says it can avoid temporarily shutting down four more fire stations. a budget decision from last year planned a brownout for several stations, even though the budget remains in a major shortfall. other fiscal cutbacks

department. the officer fired back and then the suspect ran off. the officer is expected to make a full recovery. the search continues for a driver involved in a hit and run on the bay bridge. a motorcyclist was hit and killed. it happened on the eastbound lanes near the toll plaza just after two yesterday afternoon. the chp says a car hit a motorcycle and threw the rider from their bike. then a second vehicle hit the rider and fled. police are looking for the suspect. several lanes were closed for about two hours. well, we continue to keep an eye on california's snowpack. the department of water resources held its monthly snowpack survey, and there's been an improvement since last month. statewide, we're at 85% of average, but experts aren't confident that will reach normal levels. here's abc seven news south bay reporter dustin dorsey. >> recent weather has given the bay area a taste of spring in the past few weeks, but a similar beautiful forecast in tahoe is less than good news for snow on the ground. for every

day it's not snowing or raining. snow is melting, and the latest department of water resources survey at phillips station reflects that. >> our survey today recorded a snow depth of 34in, water content of 13.5in, and the snow water content measurement is 58% of average for this date and 55% of the april 1st average at this location. >> statewide, we're at 85% of average for snowpack on this date, most of that coming from the northern sierra, with the central and south showing even further less than average. there's some work to do to get back to normal. >> at the beginning of this calendar year. the statewide snowpack was at 108% of average for that date, but an extremely dry january dropped that to 69% of an average month. a month later, with lower snowpack. >> and despite some solid storms in february, recent weather chipped away at gains. december, january and february normally account for half of california's annual precipitation, making next month's weather important. but state climatologist doctor michael anderson said friday

it's an uphill battle. >> march. a key player in fear behind hoping to catch up uh- sometimes doesn't work out that way. it's quite possible that we may have that window of precip in the first half of the month that maybe does not hold out. >> despite a forecasted below average year for snowpack, the last few winters have kept reservoirs full, including in santa clara county, where levels are at 114% of average, meaning this year there's less of a reliance for snowpack than usual. >> good news is, is the reservoirs there in northern california, shasta and oroville, they're full. so we're getting a boost in our allocations. that was just announced this week. so that's good news for us since we import about half of our water into santa clara county. >> the fourth and most important snow survey of the year, when levels typically hit their peak, will tell the tale of our 2024 2025 water year. dustin dorsey, abc seven news. >> a controversial bill to conserve the black bear population has activists calling for the proposal to be blocked. a practice known as hounding could allow hunters to chase and scare black bears up into trees

by using dogs. lawmaker heather hardwick proposed assembly bill 1038, which could reinstate hound dogs to hunt bears. the tactic was banned nearly a decade ago. some people oppose the bill, saying it's a cruel way to control the bear population and want to keep california's black bears safe. one activist, describing how hounding can severely injure the bears. >> they shoot him, and then he tumbles down through the branches, sometimes just breaking bones on the way down, getting badly injured, sometimes dying on the way down or from the gunshot. >> hardwick's bill has not made it to committee yet, and is expected to undergo hearings in the coming weeks. well, egg prices continue to soar. we're all seeing it now. officials are seeing a different problem related to those rising prices. the u.s. border and protection agency is reporting a rise in the number of people trying to smuggle eggs across the border from mexico since the beginning of january, agents in texas

now let's check in with frances. yes, stephanie. all those gray behind you, we will see some partly sunny conditions right during the middle of the day before some more rain comes into the forecast. right now we are seeing a few sprinkles, mainly off the coast. there could be a few light sprinkles around parts of the bay. and temperatures are near 50 degrees in san francisco 49 oakland, hayward, redwood city, half moon bay right at 50. san jose at 51. as we show you a live shot of those gray skies over sfo. you'll see more clouds over the bay bridge. and in the north bay we're seeing some cooler temperatures. santa rosa has some fog visibility down to about a mile. petaluma 46 degrees. also livermore and we're seeing more mid 40s in fairfield and in concord. so we have a storm coming in this evening. it's a level one on our storm impact scale. it's going to be light and it will continue through mainly tomorrow morning. we'll see showers and breezy conditions. the showers could be heavy at times, especially

tomorrow morning. and that brings us a chance of thunderstorms. also because of the system. with this onshore flow, we will see dangerous surf at the beaches and the winds will pick up. here's a futurecast animation showing you that generally it's going to be dry most of the day. in fact, the latest model shows very light rain kind of breaking up this evening. so less rainfall tonight, but we'll see some spotty showers, although could be heavy at times tomorrow morning like 7:00 in the morning. so we see some of the more moderate to possibly brief heavy downpours, like right around cloverdale or along the santa cruz mountains and the peninsula coast. half moon bay, possibly two. and then notice by tomorrow lunchtime, most of the system has moved east. it is going to bring snow to the sierras. rainfall estimates generally a few hundredths of an inch, maybe up to a quarter of an inch by tomorrow afternoon. and then, of course, be careful at the beaches. don't turn your

away from the water if you're there. we could see breakers of up to 20ft, and this does make for dangerous conditions at the beaches. in addition to that, the snow is expected in the sierra. so the winter storm advisory starts tonight. continues through monday afternoon. we'll see some slippery roads. up to ten inches of snow above 6000ft. so carry your chains. plan on some delays. temperatures today, you'll notice are cooler. we'll see upper 50s and upper 60s. so san francisco 59, in the north bay. we'll see mid 60s in santa rosa and napa. oakland 62, san jose 68. with some more sunshine this afternoon. and then the lows will drop into the upper 40s overnight, with some of those showers popping up through the morning hours. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so showers this evening for the 1st of march and then for oscar sunday. we'll see those showers continue during the morning monday. although it will be
