slight chance of an isolated thunderstorms. and of course as stephanie mentioned, dangerous surf. so we'll show you the futurecast. and right at around 6:00, temperatures will still be in the 40s. and you'll notice some showers moving through the north bay, even the peninsula. the areas of yellow show the heavier rain, but most of the rainfall will start to taper off by the afternoon. and i'll let you know how much rain you can expect. stephanie. >> all right. francis. thank you. well, the countdown is on. we are just hours away from hollywood's biggest night, the oscars, which will be right here on abc seven tonight. a lot of people will be watching tonight's show, whether it will be in the comfort of their own home or at one of the many watch parties being held across the bay area. and there's a lot of buzz around the most nominated films. amelia perez, wicked conclave and nora the brutalist, just to name some, and who will be taking home the night's biggest prize? that's the question. abc news reporter zohreen shah has a look at what

we can expect. >> it's one of the most unpredictable award show seasons in recent memory. >> i probably should have listened to my publicist and wrote a speech or something. >> i love. >> even with amelia perez. wicked and conclave leading the pack. anything could happen. >> when you look at the acting categories, we have 13 first time nominees, which is remarkable. it's one short of the record of having the most first time nominees ever. and i think what we see here is the academy that's really open to new faces and new talent. >> and those new faces are not just for acting. >> that's true for every artist in the movie. >> but across categories. >> they also bleed into the director's category. the directors that are nominated, the five of them, are all first time nominated directors. first time that that's happened since 1970. so i feel really hopeful for the future of the business. >> part of the reason is because of the changing academy.

1230. that's followed by the oscars red carpet show at 330. and then the oscars begin at four, right here on abc seven and abc seven is amanda delcastillo is in hollywood and will join us live later today and tomorrow from hollywood. as frances mentioned, we're seeing a change in the weather. dangerous surf brought some pretty tense moments in capitola yesterday. the city closed its beach and wharf because of high surf. police said numerous people had to be rescued, so the decision was made to close both out of an abundance of caution. thankfully, none of the people rescued were hurt, but you could see plenty of debris ashore. dangerous surf conditions are expected to continue through tomorrow. the hazardous beach conditions also stretch closer to home. this is a look from ocean beach, where some people were braving the rough conditions. experts are warning of an increased risk of sneaker waves and rip currents this weekend. now we're following some breaking news in san jose.

police are currently on the scene of an investigation where a car hit and killed a pedestrian. it's happening on south white road near mount pleasant high school, and officers tell us when they arrived, they located an adult man who was in the road with major injuries. and we're told he later died. a south white road. that's the road where it happened is currently closed in both directions. from mount mckinley drive to rocky mountain drive. all right. we're also following new details on a two car crash in danville that killed a person and injured three others. authorities say the crash involved a truck that overturned when it collided with a minivan. it happened along sycamore valley road at camino ramon right around 115 yesterday. there was an adult driver and two other passengers in that truck, including an adult and a teen. the adult passenger did not survive. both drivers and the teen passenger suffered minor injuries. new. this morning, governor gavin newsom has proclaimed a state of emergency for california's

forest fires. the announcement is newsom's latest push to fast track fire prevention efforts. his proclamation includes suspending certain environmental regulations, such as the coastal act and california's environmental quality act. newsom says these acts have slowed down critical forest management projects. this comes after the devastating fires burned through los angeles county in january. well, thousands of demonstrators rallied at hundreds of national park sites across the country to protest extensive job cuts by the trump administration. cutbacks at federal agencies led to thousands of layoffs of national parks and forest service employees just about two weeks ago. abc seven news reporter suzanne fawn gives us a closer look at the nationwide day of action. >> what do we want, rangers? when do we want them? now. >> it's a fight to save rangers and the national park service. >> on the parks. long live the

parks! >> on the saturday, protesters marched and rallied to protect all 433 u.s. national park sites. >> this is what democracy looks like. >> hundreds gathered at yosemite national park. they're angry at elon musk and the department of government efficiency, laying off federal employees to cut federal spending. >> they go home. elon musk has got to go. >> that's because nearly 1000 national park service employees and 3400 forest service employees were laid off on valentine's day. people like this guy. >> i was one of the people that was illegally terminated. we will get through this. we will have our day in court and i will be reinstated because this is not legal. >> people who love and support the national parks are worried about the immediate impact of staffing cuts. >> the conditions degrade when we don't have authority figures here to say, move along, organize the traffic. no, you can't park there. you got to pick up that trash. >> i'm not giving them the resources that they need. it's going to affect safety. it's

aid to the gaza strip in an attempt to get hamas to accept the latest ceasefire agreement. all goods and supplies were stopped this morning after its humanitarian assistance expired on saturday. israel now warns of even more consequences if hamas does not accept an extension to that first phase of the ceasefire. the militant group is accused of trying to stall the truce. hamas has called israel's move a cheap extortion and war crime. well, some scary moments took place at a national cheer competition that's currently underway in dallas. and we know some people from the bay area are participating this year. police say there was initially a fight between parents. take a look at this video of cheerleaders, as well as hundreds of spectators running out of the dallas convention center. this fight led to reports of an active shooter inside that building. those reports turned out to be false, but they were enough to abruptly shut down the competition and create a stampede as people

rushed to safety. >> as soon as we started seeing everybody running uh- running over people, i just got my wife and my daughter and put them in a corner. just try to shield them off. but we didn't know what was going on. we heard pop, pop, pop, but i didn't know what it was. >> we didn't run. we hid behind pillars. >> you had. okay. you hid? >> yes. and we told everybody. get out of the way. if there's a shooter, they won't be able to hit the pillars. stand behind the pillars. take your kids out of the way. that's the most important thing. >> police say what sounded like gunshots turned out to be poles knocked over during that fight. they say ten people suffered injuries during the evacuation, but none are life threatening. measles outbreaks are growing in texas as california struggles to recover its vaccination rates. there has been at least 140 reported cases in texas and nine in new mexico. this has led to 20 hospitalizations and the first measles death here in the u.s. in a decade. meanwhile, california has struggled to meet the measles vaccination

threshold since the pandemic. prior to the pandemic, the average number of kindergartners vaccinated for measles was at 98%. today, it's 96.5%, barely meeting the effective vaccination average of about 95%. all right. here in the bay area, the new park on san francisco's great highway is now set to open on april 12th. local lawmakers and wrexham parks crews made it official. the two mile park will be located between lincoln way and sloat boulevard. it was approved by voters on position proposition k in november, and now it needs to be named officially. the public will vote in a contest to decide which name to use. there's been more than 250 submissions, including the great parkway and the coastline. >> people know. >> that this is a good thing for san francisco and that ten, 20, 30 years from now, people are going to look back and say,

thank you for making this a reality. >> an online vote begins on march 18th and will close on april 2nd, at which time the name will be officially announced. well, everyone is still talking about warriors star steph curry after his incredible night last week, putting up 56 points which topped his previous season high of 38. and now he's making headlines again, but this time for a move he has not done in six years. the warriors on the road in philadelphia taking on the 76 ers yesterday. the assistant coach told curry he wanted to see a dunk. and in the fourth quarter of the game he found himself in the perfect spot. curry jumping up and stuffing it in one handed into that hoop you see right there. just incredible. the dunk was curry's 27th of his career. and he also says it will likely be his last. wow. he's a legend. all right. hundreds gather for a protest near a former women's

bay area. as we are tracking this light level one system, francis will have the latest coming up in the east bay. hundreds rallied in dublin near a former women's federal prison with a notorious legacy. they protested a proposal by the trump administration to convert it into an immigrant detention facility. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has the latest on this controversy. >> no, i said dublin. no, i said dublin. >> hundreds of protesters rallying on the streets of dublin, near the site of a former federal women's prison with a painful past. >> the buildings themselves are falling apart. they're toxic. they're full of mold and asbestos. it's also just a site of years of heinous abuse. it has become a symbol of sexual and physical abuse. >> a class action lawsuit filed by prisoner advocates led to the closure of the prison last year. but now the trump administration may be looking to reopen the facility as an ice detention center. this group says no. >> and to put people back in

this physically unsafe place. it would just be inhumane. at fci. >> dublin must remain permanently closed. we oppose reopening the facility as any type of incarceration facility where humans are caged. >> nobody understands that the severity, the trauma, the abuse that we went through is inhumane. >> i'm echavarria is a former inmate at the dublin prison. she says her treatment there was horrific. >> we as u.s. citizens went through horrific pain in there and abuse and retaliation. what are they going to do to these immigrants? >> so far, there's few details about how this federal prison could be repurposed in the future and when it might happen. u.s. immigration and customs enforcement officials have not responded to abc seven request for comment, but told the mercury news we can confirm that ice is exploring all options to meet its current and future detention requirements amid a significant number of criminal arrests. those arrests are part

of a nationwide immigration crackdown by the trump administration. >> we can say the issue is urgent. things could happen very quickly, and we know concretely that ice has toured this facility more than once. >> immigrants are welcome here. no hate, no hate. >> activists say they plan more protests in the future. in dublin. cornell, bernard. abc seven news. >> a bird strike is being blamed for a fiery midair emergency landing for this fedex cargo plane. take a look. the plane had to make an emergency landing in new jersey after their bird strike caused an engine fire that could be seen from the ground. the plane landed at newark liberty international airport. thankfully, there were no reported injuries, and the fire on the cargo plane was contained to the engine. the emergency landing caused air traffic around the airport to be briefly halted as a precaution. new. this morning, a private company from the us has landed

on the moon delivering experiments for nasa. firefly just became the first commercial company in history to achieve a fully successful moon landing. its lunar lander, blue ghost, touched down overnight and a half an hour after that landing, blue ghost started to send back these photos from the surface, and the first one was a selfie somewhat obscured by the sun's glare and two other companies. landers are hot on blue ghost's heels, with the next one expected to join it on the moon later this week. very exciting to see that. well, turning now to the weather, let's check in with frances on this rainy start to our sunday. >> yeah, those are cool pictures. and also, here's a really neat sight to see. we have some rain falling over parts of the bay area and some snow in the sierra. you can see it here with live doppler seven and the satellite radar image. it's also bringing some gusty conditions. we'll see breezy conditions, especially along the coast, but right now winds are gusting up to 32mph in oakland,

14 in san francisco and even 20 in fairfield. here's a live shot of the golden gate bridge. and you can see roads are slick this morning, so be careful if you're heading out right now in san francisco, it's currently 48 degrees oakland, 50 degrees hayward 49, san jose 50. also half moon bay at 50 degrees. and this time we're looking from emeryville towards san francisco. and what you'll notice, it's a bit cooler in the north bay in santa rosa, petaluma, napa, fairfield, also in the upper 40s. concord 50 livermore 47 degrees. so a live shot there of the ferry building and also the wet roads right now in san francisco. here's what you need to know with the forecast headlines. we're going to see light rain and showers, mainly during the morning hours. there's also a high surf advisory. be careful at the beaches. strong rip currents and some sneaker waves. and then this week, still some periods of light rain. and i'll show you that with the accuweather seven day forecast. so futurecast

shows some showers kind of hit and miss showers popping up all around the north bay and the peninsula, even some in the east bay. now the areas of yellow indicate some heavier rainfall, so at times it could be heavy. but notice by lunchtime most of the shower activity has moved towards the east. so we will get even some breaks in some of the cloud cover, and then we could still see a few pop up showers during the evening hours, but not too much precipitation by that time. and then monday morning will start off mostly dry, so rainfall amounts not too impressive, generally less than a quarter of an inch. and then you'll see in some areas it's even a little bit of hit and miss. you might barely get a few hundredths of an inch or none at all, so possibly even close to a quarter of an inch in fremont and then none in yountville. so the high surf advisory. keep that in mind. that extends or that goes until tomorrow evening, 9:00, and waves could reach up to 20ft. right now they're at 11ft point arena and

r&b singer angie stone was killed in a car crash in alabama. the artist was best known for being a member of the all female hip hop trio the sequence, and known for the hit song wish i didn't miss you. stone was scheduled to perform at the halftime show of the central intercollegiate athletic association men's championship basketball game on saturday. she was 63 years old. following developing news now, the vatican says pope francis remains stable after a setback in his recovery. the pontiff suffered a respiratory attack known as a bronchospasm on friday. officials say since then, he's had no further problems and he does not have a fever and is alternating between mechanical ventilation and high flow oxygen therapy. the vatican says pope francis continues to be alert and oriented, and he rested

comfortably overnight. well, the u.s. is on the brink of its largest active duty troop presence at the southern border in years. the trump administration is sending 3000 more troops to the southern border over the next few weeks. this deployment will bring the total number of troops securing that area to 9000. it's all part of president trump's border policy to crack down on illegal immigration. trump alluded to military action in mexico if they don't secure the border themselves. the secretary of state doubled down, not ruling out u.s. military action. >> preference would be from the department of states perspective. my preference would be that we can work with the mexicans on this issue cooperatively. >> trump has threatened to put 25% tariffs on mexico and canada starting tuesday if they don't agree. both mexico and canada have made efforts by sending 10,000 troops to the border. california's insurance commissioner is looking into why

state farm insurance asked to raise its homeowner policy rates by as much as 38% in some cases. he sat down with the company to ask questions this past week. according to the commissioner, state farm is worried about its ability to pay out all of its claims after the southern california wildfires. the company is the largest insurer here in california and across the country. two years ago, they stopped writing new policies for homeowners, and last year they refused to renew thousands of existing policies, many of which are here in the bay area. critics say state farm will have to prove themselves to secure a rate increase. >> they've had rate increase after rate increase, and there's a process in california to make sure that the rate increases are fair and fair for californians. when you're looking at such a big number up to a $600 increase, we just really think you need to go through the process and make sure that it's going to be the right number and fair for californians and

is back in the bay area this weekend and we have a backstage pass for you. the new paul mccartney photo exhibit opened this weekend at san francisco's deyoung museum, and it's abc seven news anchor dan ashley reports. it has the power to drop you right in the middle of the manic energy of the band's arrival here in america. >> walking into the paul mccartney eyes of the storm photo exhibit, you can almost hear the screams and feel the fans as policemen hold them back. as the fab four zips by. these photos, these moments in time document that mad rush. in a year leading up to a concert right here in the bay area more than 60 years ago. >> twist and shout, shout. oh come on, come on, come on baby. >> each picture capturing beatlemania through one of the eyes in the center of the storm. paul mccartney traveled with his

now famous hofner bass and his 35 millimeter pentax camera. the images now on display are from his personal collection. curator sally martin katz describes what sir paul captured. he had no way of knowing what the journey would be like and what these photos would later mean, 60 years on. >> absolutely. these photographs throughout the exhibition were taken during the height of beatlemania, but there we're experiencing it as they're discovering their superstardom. so we, as visitors get to come along for the ride. and that's really exciting. >> and mccartney turns his lens to both the journalists that followed the band everywhere and his fellow beatles. i had the chance to see the exhibition myself in london a couple of years ago, and to experience the unfiltered joy and unrelenting pressure from their perspective that they must have felt with their sudden fame. all of the pictures you see taken by paul mccartney are the same here at the deyoung museum, but they've been arranged a little bit

differently to tell the story in a unique way. sally worked with mccartney's team directly to form this exhibit, from the iconic appearance on the ed sullivan show to soaking up the sun in tropical miami. >> some of these pictures actually resemble, you know, holiday snapshots or show, you know. vacation photos. vacation photos. he's a tourist. i mean, this this was his first time coming to the us. and you have to think there are also 21 years old. these are for, you know, best friends who are 21. so the pictures are playful. they're whimsical. >> sir paul's true achievement may be to have captured all of the chaos and energy of beatlemania, and frozen the feeling in place for a new generation of fans six decades later. >> yeah. >> oh, that iconic song. i just love it. that was dan ashley reporting. the museum says the exhibit is expected to generate a lot of excitement, and the deyoung is advising visitors to

upper 40s and low 50s. san francisco 48. oakland 50. san jose also 50. half moon bay 52. and from emeryville, we're looking towards the bay bridge and san francisco. we're seeing lots of upper 40s in the north bay, petaluma, napa, fairfield at 48, santa rosa and livermore at 47 degrees. and here's another view of more wet roads right now along the embarcadero, with the ferry building in the background. so here's what you need to know. we'll see some light rain and showers, even a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm for this level one light system. and then there's also high surf advisory in effect. be careful. there's rip currents and sneaker waves. if you are heading to the coast this week, we're also see a couple more days of some light rain. and i'll show you that with the accuweather seven day forecast. so futurecast shows some rain and showers falling through at around 630 this morning. maybe parts of the east bay will see some heavier rainfall. and livermore, with the areas in yellow and just

their near half moon bay also. and then you notice by lunchtime we'll see some cloud cover, but lots of breaks in the rain this evening. a few showers may still pop up, but some areas will even remain dry after lunch. and then tomorrow morning we're clearing out for a sunny day, but it will be cool for tomorrow. start. rainfall estimates really range, so some areas just getting a few hundredths of an inch and then some areas getting more like fremont, possibly up to a quarter of an inch, but generally not too much except for the ben lomond santa cruz area. now the high surf advisory in effect until tomorrow night, and we could see waves up to 20ft. right now the biggest waves are point arena at ten feet. and just this may cause some dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. and also just be careful because we could also see some beach erosion. if you're heading to and from tahoe carrier chains, plan on some delays. there will be some

are getting an outage that impacted thousands of people this weekend. yesterday, some users took to social media to say they were unable to access their outlook email accounts. in a series of posts on the social media platform x, the company said it was investigating the issue, which affected various microsoft 365 services. microsoft later said we've identified a potential cause of impact and have reverted to the suspected code to alleviate the impact. super burger is closing its windsor location. the popular hamburger chain made the announcement on facebook and gave no reason for shutting down. however, a sign says a new burger joint will be taking over

the location on old redwood highway. super burgers for other restaurants in sonoma county are also going to remain open. it got its start back in the 1950s in a shack in santa rosa on fourth street. a new study suggests china's mars rover may have found evidence of an ancient beach on the red planet in 2021. the rover landed in an area called utopia basin. take a look at this footage. it dates back about 4 billion years ago. utopia basin, and it's located near a series of ridges that scientists say might represent the remnants of a shoreline. radar detected structures similar to layered beaches on earth. the study was published in the journal proceedings of the national academy of sciences. pretty neat. well, still to come on abc seven mornings at 6 a.m. chaos at a cheer competition in texas. what sent thousands of people running into the streets? plus one
