6:02 am
of hours. we're certainly seeing the rain this morning. yes. for example, san francisco got nine hundredths of an inch so far, but san jose has had zero. well, though, they might be getting some right now. so we're going to see shower activity move through the bay area for this level one light storm on our storm impact scale. we could see a slight chance of an isolated thunderstorm as well this morning. and as stephanie mentioned, dangerous surf conditions with some beach erosion. 7:00 this morning, temperatures still in the 40s. and then by lunchtime we'll be in the 50s. it's going to be a cooler day. but what you'll notice is we'll get breaks from the rain. in fact, just some cloud cover, maybe even some pockets of some sun rays peeking through. there will be a few pop up showers in the afternoon and evening, but not too much. though most of the activity will fall during the morning hours and then tomorrow, looking dry and sunny before some more rain is heading back our way. and i'll show you that with the

first time nominees ever. and i think what we see here is the academy that's really open to new faces and new talent. >> and those new faces are not just for acting. >> that's true for every artist in the movie. >> but across categories. >> they also bleed into the director's category. the directors that are nominated, the five of them are all first time nominated directors. first time that that's happened since 1970. so i feel really hopeful for the future of the business. >> part of the reason is because of the changing academy. >> there's been 5000 people added to the academy in the last decade. >> and that's why it's been hard for some experts to make predictions. >> for two years running, we've had two non-english-language movies get into best picture. that was unheard of. so the taste and the palates are are changing. >> also a newcomer to the oscar stage. conan o'brien hosting for the first time. >> i think that's a big misconception, is that you're
6:05 am
hoping everything goes perfectly. i'm someone who hopes that things sometimes go a little off the rails, because that's where the real memorable moments happen in late night television and on the oscars. so i'm going to plan for some terrible, terrible mistakes. >> the oscars also coming just a few months after those devastating wildfires. conan o'brien was one of those people who was displaced, reporting from hollywood. zohreen shah, abc news. >> so here's the rundown for your oscars sunday, right here on abc seven. our coverage begins with on the red carpet at 1230. that's followed by the oscars red carpet show at 330. and then, of course, the oscars begin at 4 p.m. right here on abc seven. and our own amanda delcastillo is in hollywood, hollywood, and will join us live later today and tomorrow. as frances mentioned, we're seeing a change in the weather. that dangerous surf brought some pretty intense moments in capitola. yesterday, the city
6:06 am
closed its beach and wharf because of the high surf. police said numerous people had to be rescued. so the decision was made to close both out of an abundance of caution. thankfully, none of the people rescued were hurt, but you could see plenty of debris ashore. dangerous surf conditions are expected to continue through tomorrow, and the hazardous beach conditions also stretch closer to home. this is a look from ocean beach, where some people were braving the rough conditions. experts are warning of an increased risk of sneaker waves and rip currents this weekend. we're following breaking news in san jose. police are currently on the scene of an investigation where a car hit and killed a pedestrian. it's happening on south white road near mount pleasant high school. officers say when they arrived, they located a man in the road with major injuries. and we're told he later died. south white road is currently closed in both directions from mount mckinley drive to rocky mountain drive. we're following new details on

last september at the age of 83. well, in sports, the san francisco 49 ers have agreed to send standout wide receiver deebo samuel to the washington commanders in exchange for a fifth round pick. abc seven sports director larry beil has a look in your morning sports. >> good morning everybody. with jimmy butler the warriors may be legit title contenders. without him they have to fight and scratch for every win. that was the case in philadelphia. butler out with back spasms. and man was he ever missed. so no jimmy butler and no joel embiid. he's out for the rest of the year for philly with a knee injury. they lost nine straight coming in. warriors got down early but they fight back. nice interior passing gpt2 to kevon looney. looney had ten points but the dubs got lit up by quentin grimes who was channeling his inner steph curry, making shots all over the place. he was on fire. sixers came in, as i said, having lost nine in a row. so a shock to see them up by 12 at the half. moore grimes in the third quarter driving and

scoring steve kerr says time out please. grimes a career high 44 points. dubs make a run. steph curry his first jam in over six years and likely his last two minutes of play. curry gorgeous no look dish to gpt2 for the layup. season high 13 assists for steph. it went for 29 after his 56 point eruption in orlando. but these possessions killed the warriors late. grimes with a bucket inside of course. next possession guerschon yabusele for three of his 18 off the bench. the sixers and the warriors five game sizzle 126, 119. >> we would like to make the playoffs. playoffs. talking about the finals. we just want to make the playoffs. >> and also you're. >> talking about the finals. okay okay. >> besides jimmy we're we can still be a great basketball team. i feel like we just didn't come with any energy. i thought especially defensively, we came out flat compared to, you know, last game maybe we started rough, but we picked up and you know we fought back in the second half. but you just can't
6:50 am
come out like that. >> no we just didn't come with enough force. you know the guys came out played really hard and made a lot of shots. and our defense has been really good over the over the last ten, 15 games. and we weren't able to get stops. we've been able to hang our hats on getting stops, and it was tough for us in that first half, and that's why we got down. >> blockbuster moved by the 49 ers. deebo samuel star wide receiver being traded to washington for a fifth round draft pick. deebo has been such a big part of this niner offense. but approaching age 30 his production was down last year. only three receiving touchdowns. bottom line is the bottom line deebo do almost 22 million next season. the niners don't want to pay him. and brandon aiyuk a combined 50 million plus. this trade cannot be finalized until march 12th. college hoops. usf hosting gonzaga at chase center. the winner clinching second place in the west coast conference. dons trying to keep it close in the first half marcus williams. this dude can play steal and stuff. he led all scorers with 28, but the zags would pull away. ryan

nembhard running around makes it a 16 point lead and there were still in the first half and sets this record in the second half. his 300th assist of the season, just the 18th player to do that in the last 30 years. the dons fall 9575. usf, though, does get a bite of the quarters in the wcc tournament starting this week. that's a wrap on morning sports. have a great weekend everybody i'm larry beil. >> all right. thank you larry. well you're waking up to rain in parts of the bay area. let's check in with frances. yeah. stephanie, we're. >> still seeing some shower activity around the bay area. you can see those areas highlighted in green there, just near san francisco. and some other showers have moved east of livermore. also some snow in the sierra. this system is bringing us some breezy to gusty conditions. nevada. right now, winds gusting up to 22mph. and it was very breezy and it will continue to be along the coast throughout the day. but we're seeing little breaks in the cloud cover right now. as you can see from our golden gate bridge camera. temperatures are
6:52 am
in the upper 40s and low 50s. so in san francisco it's 48, oakland is 50, hayward, san jose 49. also redwood city, half moon bay, 52 degrees, and this time in san jose. we are still seeing some gray skies. they've only had one hundredths of an inch during the showers this morning. santa rosa and parts of the north bay. we're seeing 40. petaluma 43 and upper 40s right now. napa. fairfield. concord. livermore at 45 degrees. here's a live shot in santa cruz where we have more gray skies. and as stephanie mentioned, we still have those dangers. high surf conditions. so today we're seeing some light rain and some showers, mainly during the morning hours. we'll get a little bit of a break and then we may still see a few hours. few showers later on this evening. so the high surf advisory does cause some rip currents and some sneaker waves. and then this week, we still have several more periods of light rain in the accuweather seven day forecast. so futurecast in the next hour we
6:53 am
could see some more rainfall, maybe heavier rainfall through parts of the north bay coast. and then as you notice, the system continues to move east and it wraps around after lunch. it's really starts to dry out, although a few pop up showers may be possible in the evening hours during the evening, especially along the san mateo county coastline, and then tomorrow morning waking up to some dry and clear conditions, which does make for a chilly start. so rainfall estimates really range from a few hundredths of an inch up to a quarter of an inch for most areas in san francisco. we've actually already gotten a 10th of an inch. and then the areas that might see the most rainfall, like mount tam middle peak, already has had almost half an inch of rain. so we also get snow in the sierra with the system and up to a foot of snow above 6000ft. carry chains plan on delays, and this winter storm advisory will expire 1:00
6:54 am
tomorrow. so highs today are cooler with the system only in the 50s generally for everyone. san francisco 57, oakland, san jose 58. and then tomorrow it's going to be chilly in the north bay, with some numbers dropping as low as the upper 30s. lots of mid 40s around the bay area tomorrow morning. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so morning showers already starting to taper off a bit. mostly sunny. tomorrow we get a break before our next system arrives tuesday and wednesday, but it's also a level one light system. >> all right. thank you francis. well, still to come, we have the seven
