the south bay. that's where we have the cloudy icon on your screen as you move away from the coast. we do have clear skies, so today will be mostly sunny, but temperatures will be on the cool side this afternoon. so right now, as we begin your monday, we're in the 30s and in the 40s. 39 in napa this morning, 48 in the city, 49 in san jose. but the chilly spots right now danville, fairfield coming in at 37 degrees. so let's go hour by hour on future weather showing you you'll need the coat for much of the morning. it stays pretty chilly. here's your 8 a.m. temperatures as we head later into the day. by about 1230 we have mostly sunny skies. temperatures in the 50s at that hour. and then later on this afternoon, a couple of things will happen. temperatures slightly below average in the mid 50s to the low 60s, but we'll have a lot of cloud cover moving in later on this evening. we'll turn mostly cloudy by about 730, so a lot of sunshine during the day, upper 50s to the lower 60s. 59 in the city, about 60 in oakland, the same in san jose, 59. the high in napa. let's check in with sue hall. see how we're doing on this commute. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. it's

the grandiose of hollywood, the 97th academy awards, people, there was magic and madness. from oscars prep, the red carpet to the show itself. it was a jam packed few days, and with the after the oscars show ahead, still much more celebrating to do. but let me put you back on that red carpet. it wasn't surprising to me. there was so much love for the bay area. >> area. bay area, bay area. i'm in trouble. go. go fast. what do you want to know? influence i love the bay area bringing you. joan loves the bay area. how has it? i'm so proud to be from there. and i'm going to go there as soon as possible after all of this. >> i love the bay area. i mean, i'm a kid, but bay area is a lot of fun. i look forward to going back. i have a lot of friends up there, so i'm gonna be up there with my son later on. >> shout out to oakland. the golden state warriors are on a heater right now. you know oakland's oakland's winning again. and you know i just want to say that i'm really proud to be from all the places that i

probably closer to three 4:05 p.m. you'll notice an increase in cloud cover and we do turn mostly cloudy tonight. daytime highs will go into the mid 50s and into the low 60s. your sunrise today at 638. your sunset at 606 this morning. here's live doppler seven along with satellite low pressure spinning over. nevada is pushing off to the east. that is what brought us some early morning showers first thing yesterday. today we see a lot of sunshine, but then this front will get close to us tonight. it will bring the cloud cover later on this evening. tomorrow is mostly cloudy with some drizzle pockets, but by wednesday low pressure will push this thing through and by wednesday evening we have the chance of some light rain moving through the region. but today we are going to stay dry. we'll stay bright. daytime highs will be a bit below average, so upper 50s to near 60 degrees for a lot of us. bright skies, late day clouds cool for march, 60 degrees for san jose, walnut creek and in oakland. now, as we look deeper into the forecast tomorrow, it's

15. and if you have plans to head to the beach today, be careful out there. high surf along much of the bay area coastline has created dangerous conditions on our beaches. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in pacifica this morning. lena, i live on the coast. it was so windy out there this morning. is it still really windy? >> yeah. gloria, good morning to you. it is still extremely windy out here at the pacifica pier

right now. and this is one of several bay area locations that was battered by waves over the weekend. now we can still hear those waves crashing into the seawall here behind us. even though the national weather service has canceled the high surf advisory. now, further up north on the sonoma county coast, the sheriff's department says the body of a man who was swept into the ocean over the weekend has been recovered at gerstle cove campground, near fort ross sunday morning. officials say the man was standing on rocks near the shore when he got swept into the ocean by a crashing wave at ocean beach in san francisco. one fire captain is now warning folks to beware of dangerous surf and rogue waves. >> inexperienced swimmers, inexperienced surfers need to be very aware of these conditions, and it is our recommendation to stay out of the water at this time and come back on a day when it's a little more calm. >> capitola closed its beach and wharf saturday for several hours because of the high surf. police

said numerous people had to be rescued but no injuries were reported. now that high surf advisory that was in place until 9:00 tonight has since been canceled. that was canceled right before 4:00 this morning. but still a very good reminder to useand at waco regional airport after experiencing turbulence on its way from springfield, missouri, during a strong storm. there were 28 people on board the flight. five were taken to nearby hospital. several other flights were diverted to the airport because of the storm system. sunday's flight diversions come amid a string of incidents involving aircraft safety in recent weeks. >> in the east bay. a shooting outside a restaurant left four people hurt over the weekend, and this morning the shooter is still out there. the shooting happened just before 11 saturday night at the grill by mis g hig. police say three people were taken to the hospital by ambulance. a fourth person showed up to an emergency room on their own. and the motive here is under investigation. tiktok is also under investigation. the app is facing a probe by the uk's data

protection watchdog. investigators want to know if its algorithm is sending harmful content to kids. the watchdog is also looking into reddit and the online image sharing website imgur for the same reason. both of those companies are based in san francisco. >> and back to hollywood's biggest night. now a theater in the east bay created the perfect spot for watching the oscars last night. the orinda theater invited their community to watch the award show on the big screen. they had snacks, trivia prizes and discussions led by movie critic dan wall during commercial breaks. >> first of all, i did not expect a good oscar show. i'm not really a conan o'brien. i mean, i know him and i've watched him and i've even met him, but i just didn't think it was going to happen. and he was funny. it was well written. it moved. it had production numbers. thank you god. >> well, she had an honest review. i like that. >> and a spirited one. >> yes. and one of the moments that hit home for people in orinda was during sean baker's

acceptance speech. he advocated for getting both fans and distributors to support movie theaters, and the experience of seeing movies on the big screen. that got a lot of applause last night. >> i think that the opening with ariana grande and cynthia erivoh is one of the best oscar openings that i've seen. >> so far. it was really beautiful the way it was done. yeah. >> when cynthia started singing home from the wiz, that's what really took me out, because i didn't expect that to happen. and that was really a genius production move. >> can't go wrong with somewhere over the rainbow. you really can't. >> no no. >> no no. and her dress with the shoe on the back. was just spectacular. loved it. yeah. >> the whole thing was really cool. i also loved how they focused on the orchestra. they put them in the middle instead of, like, hiding them below the stage now. and it was cool to see them all from time to time. >> yeah. speaking of their outfits, i loved how they had the green dress and the pink dress earlier in the night. you know, so gorgeous on the red carpet. >> yeah. well done. love. >> it was the only time they would be on stage for the rest of the show. but we'll take it.

joining us here are the seven things to know this morning. number one, breaking news about president trump's tariffs set to start tomorrow. according to reuters, honda will move production of the next civic from mexico to indiana to avoid the increased costs. the president is reportedly deciding if he'll stick with the original 25% tariffs against mexico and canada, or a different amount. >> number two. today is national day of action to protest the trump administration's mass deportations. students at oakland high schools are planning to join in, walking out of class and marching to lake merritt for a rally. >> number three, a heads up if you have plans to head to the coast. there's been dangerous surf along our beaches and the waves remain elevated this morning. one man died over the weekend when he was swept into the ocean in sonoma county. >> and number four in the accuweather forecast. we will be bright today. expect a lot of sunshine, but it will feel cool for early march. you can see temperatures on the map. a lot of us will stay in the 50s to around 60 degrees for daytime highs. >> and number five following your monday morning drive.

high winds this morning over the bridges, including the san mateo bridge and the altamont pass. so far, no metering lights at the bay bridge. >> thank you so much, sue. >> number six, the bay area is getting closer to having air taxis in the skies. santa cruz based joby aviation says it made record progress on the fourth of five certification stages. the company expects to carry its first passengers in san francisco by late this year or early next. >> number seven, a new study suggests that china's mars r may have found evidence of an ancient beach on the red planet. it's in an area of mars called the utopia basin. the discovery suggests that at one point, mars could have had much more water than it does now. and members of the figure skating community gathered in washington, d.c, this weekend to honor those killed in january's mid-air collision near reagan national airport. bay area olympic skaters brian boitano and kristi yamaguchi hosted the legacy on ice benefit. skaters held a performance on the ice at the home of the washington capitals

hockey team. they came together to honor the 28 members of the u.s. figure skating community killed in that midair crash. they were among 67 people who died when an american airlines jet collided with a black hawk helicopter. >> this morning, an emergency situation in the carolinas, where firefighters are battling 175 wildfires that erupted over the weekend. combined, they have burned more than 4200 acres. thousands of people have been under evacuation orders. south carolina's governor has declared a state of emergency. dry and windy conditions have been driving the flames. the conditions are expected to improve today. >> the social security administration is bracing for significant job cuts as part of president trump's workforce reduction plan. the federal agency plans to cut 7000 jobs and close six of its ten regional offices. former social security commissioner martin o'malley says the cuts could put monthly checks at risk. more than 7200 excuse me, million americans currently receive retirement, disability and

2025 oscars are a wrap. and one of the big winners. last night, actor kieran culkin, he took home the oscar for best supporting actor, then delivered a speech that managed to honor his wife and hold her to a major promise. >> about a year ago, i was in a stage like this and i very stupidly, publicly said that i want a third kid from her because she said if i won the award, i would she would give me the kid uh- turns out she said that cause she didn't think i was going to win. but after the show, we were walking through a parking lot. she's holding the emmy. we're trying to find her car. emily, you were there. so you're a witness. and she goes, oh, god, i did say that. i guess i owe you a third kid. and i turned to her and i said, really, i want for. and she turned to me. i swear to god, this happened just over a year ago. she said, i will give you four when you win an oscar. then i just have this to say to you. jazz, love of my life, ye of little faith. no pressure, i love you. i'm really sorry i did this again. and let's get

on. amanda, you change locations. so what's going on there right now? >> okay, so this is my very first time ever inside the dolby theater. much warmer than outside, let me tell you that. but how amazing is it? there's an entire audience filing in right now, and they are getting ready to watch kelly and marx after the oscar show, which starts in less than 30 minutes. at this point, we know that steve aoki and lil jon, they were doing a sound check earlier, but i'm going to get back to my experience. i have had a complete just blast really here in hollywood. from the moment we really got here, nothing but focus on film and fashion every single day. the red carpet, as i mentioned, was probably my favorite part of the entire experience, and we know that in just a moment, i will give you a glimpse of all that red carpet rejection that i've been talking about, because we know that the road to gold starts with red, and i'm talking about that red carpet. gabriela.

now, further up north on the coast, the sonoma county sheriff's department says the body of a man who was swept into the ocean over the weekend has been recovered at gerstle cove campground, near fort ross on saturday morning. officials say the man was standing on rocks near the shore when he got swept into the ocean. a crashing wave. these are conditions capitola kite surfers say they trained for, minus the hazardous surf. >> minus the hazardous surf. >> i didn't have the kite. i'd be a lot more scared. but having the kite to give you that little bit of power feels a lot safer. >> even at ankle level, it can sweep you out there. >> at ocean beach in san francisco. one fire captain. who? one fire captain told us that he is warning folks to beware of dangerous surf and waves. he said inexperienced swimmers and surfers need to be very aware of these conditions. again, the high surf advisory has since been canceled for this area, but still a very important
