away tonight. san francisco is shutting down a parking lot for unhoused people living out of rvs. sky seven was overhead as tow trucks started hauling vehicles away tonight. good evening. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. the parking program in candlestick point was part of a san francisco's approach to solving homelessness and building a better bay area, offering a safe place to stay, food, even rv repairs. >> abc seven news reporter j.r stone spoke to residents who don't know where they'll go next. >> monday evening. >> tow trucks clear this rv park in sight of where candlestick once stood. >> i start a federal case on monday, and we're just going to have a long discussion about how people in rvs are treated like second class citizens. >> all the while, outrage from the 30 plus people who are still living there and now don't know where they will go. those with the city of san francisco issued a statement, in part, saying everyone on site was offered permanent housing, rental subsidies, alternative shelter and or relocation assistance

prior to the closure of the site. ramona meehan, who has filed a lawsuit on this matter, says that is not the case. >> all the stuff you see in the paper, the mayor saying london breed and the new one is saying that there's rv parks, rv repair, we're getting subsidies to go to rv parks. none of that is true. >> i can't even give the emotions right now, because if i did, i'd probably be in jail. and it's the worst. >> thing that angry. >> yeah, it's pretty much because they didn't give us no warning. they gave us no warning, and they just told us, get out and that's it. >> the city says it. and the nonprofits operating the site held community meetings and gave written notification of the closure. city representatives say the bay view vehicle triage center served 132 households since it was opened in 2022. we previously reported that there were issues here from the start with flooding, rats and a lack of electricity. these are rvs that you see here were towed, the equivalent of a few football fields from where they were parked. meehan says mechanics

that were brought in often couldn't fix some of the problems with rvs like hers, and the money to fund those mechanics ran out. >> probably 20 rvs left in there that people aren't giving them up. so what are we supposed to do? where are we supposed to go? and rv parks are what the solution is all across the country for ultra poor people to live in. it is americana. >> if you could say something to the mayor, what would you say to the mayor? >> help! help! can you help us out, please? we need somewhere to go. >> for now, many will be just down the street from where they were before being towed. j.r. stone abc seven news. >> as san francisco closes a safe parking site, san jose is in the middle of opening one. the city says it's moving people in in phases starting this month. the six acre patch of land is located on berryessa road. it's set to be the largest rv supportive parking program in the city, with room for 85 rvs. access to utilities and other city services. the project costs

$7.5 million. san jose started banning rv's in certain parts of the city at the beginning of the year, forcing people to move or be towed. >> all right, let's turn to your accuweather forecast. and a wet few days coming up for the bay area. we're tracking rain on the way once again. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here with a look at when these showers will arrive. sandhya. >> tomorrow morning, dan and they're going to be really spotty. they're not going to be an all day event right now. dan, as we take a look at a live picture from our mount tam cam, you can see a lot of clouds out there. here's a look at live doppler seven. clouds are stacked up, but the showers are still off the coastline. looking at the wider perspective here. this system is not going to produce a whole lot, but it will be enough to just dampen the ground tomorrow morning. not at the commute time, but around 9 a.m. so as the commute is underway later on in the morning, we'll see a spotty showers continues at 11 a.m, and then in the early afternoon, it's still going to be a little bit on the drizzly side. this is just the start of an unsettled pattern. i'll be back with a full look at the forecast coming

right up. dan. >> okay, sandhya, thanks a lot. touch base in a minute. you can track the wet weather this week using the same live doppler seven tools that sandhya and the entire weather team use. head to abc seven news.com or the abc seven bay area app for the full forecast 24 over seven. >> this week, we are one step closer to the trial over a social media model's death. an unlicensed cosmetologist is due back in court on involuntary manslaughter charges, accused of performing an illegal procedure in a peninsula hotel room. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez breaks down the case. >> the death of a bay area woma, known as a kim kardashian lookalike and a popular onlyfans star is still playing out in the court system. kristina ashton was 34 years old when prosecutors say she died after an illegal cosmetic procedure. this week, the san mateo county district attorney's office says we'll learn when the jury trial will begin, according to the da's office, gorkon hired 50 year old vivian gomez, an unlicensed cosmetologist out of

florida. it was on april 19th, 2023. gomez flew to san francisco and performed the procedure on gorkon at a hotel here in burlingame. the da's office says gorkon died the next day after gomez performed illegal silicone buttock injections. >> that is, injecting free floating silicone in the form of likely a gel. but it's a free floating gel. >> doctor lisa huang is a licensed plastic surgeon based in campbell. >> if it's not injected in a certain place and in this case, it's a free floating substance which can also cause migration down the road. >> doctor huang said it's important if someone is seeking out a cosmetic procedure, make sure they find someone certified and they visit for a consultation. >> there are very specific boards, so a lot of times people will say board certified, but it's really important to actually look into which board. being able to publicize accurate information about plastic surgery is really important,

just in educating the public and making sure that everyone approaches it with a safe mentality. >> a jury trial date for courtney's case will be decided this friday in the south bay. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> and time now for our abc seven news at 11, helping you get ahead of the big stories in the days to come. first, it's election day tomorrow in san mateo county, deciding the next steps for the county's embattled sheriff. if passed, measure a would change the county charter and give the board of supervisors the ability to remove the elected sheriff. sheriff christina corpus is accused of corruption, nepotism and retaliation within the department. she has consistently and vehemently denied those allegations and has called the special election a political attack. >> if the people don't want me to be the sheriff, then a recall should take place. >> we really need to get back down to normal, and i certainly hope that she'll step up and say, you know, let's just end

this and go forward. you know. >> if voters pass measure a, supervisors would have to take several steps to fire corpus. it would take four of the five supervisors voting to remove her if they find cause to do so. >> our next advance are negotiations between bus and train operators and the santa clara valley. the valley transportation authority. their contract is set to expire at midnight and a strike is on the table. members voted to authorize a strike a few weeks ago, but they haven't set a date for that to begin. vta says it is actively working to reach an agreement with the union, but it is encouraging people who rely on the transit system to start preparing backup plans should a strike stop bus and light rail service. the union wants bigger pay increases to keep up with the cost of living. >> and our last advancer here at 11. president trump says tariffs on canada and mexico will kick in tomorrow. the announcement had stocks plummeting on wall street today. the renewed fears of a possible trade war come as the president is preparing a speech to congress tomorrow

night. abc news reporter melissa ogden explains the tariff affects. >> the bell closing on wall street monday, capping off a tough day for investors after president trump announced a 25% tariff on goods from canada and mexico will go into effect tuesday. >> they can't come in and steal our money and steal our jobs and take our factories and take our businesses and expect not to be punished, and they're being punished by tariffs. >> trump also amending his executive order on tariffs impacting chinese goods, raising those to 20%. promising that tariffs on imports would lead to more jobs, higher wages and lower prices. economists say the cost would be paid by american businesses, who will pass it on to consumers by raising prices. the owner of michigan based clothing apparel skinny tees, says she's already concerned. >> people don't understand your zipper, your buttons, your thread, your fabric. none of it. very little is made in the

united states, and we don't have the capacity to do it. >> all of this renewing fears of a potential trade war between the us and our north american neighbors. trump undeterred. >> so what they have to do is build their car, plants and other things in the united states. >> mexico and canada already vowing to retaliate by slapping taxes on american goods. >> we are ready with $155 billion worth of tariffs, and we're ready with the first tranche of tariffs, which is 30 billion. >> trump insists his tariffs are meant to pressure mexico and canada to stop the flow of deadly drugs and migrants coming into the country. less than 1% of the fentanyl coming into the us last year came across the canadian border. recently, canada appointing a fentanyl czar. mexico surging 10,000 troops to the border and sending back criminals wanted in the u.s. melissa don, abc news, los angeles. >> and we will have live coverage tomorrow of the president's address to congress, including the democratic

out the emotional and verbal abuse she suffered from a former coach that led her to. suicidal thoughts and about her olympic experience. the morning tv first. tomorrow on good morning america. >> new at 11 a shocking case out of a southern california juvenile hall. 30 officers are under indictment accused of overseeing what prosecutors are calling gladiator fights between the teenagers in their custody. >> they did have multiple gladiator type fights between

individuals with probation officers employed by l.a. county. right there in the room. >> california attorney general rob bonta announced the indictment today, more than a year after these videos came to light. cameras captured a series of fights at the los padrinos juvenile hall in la county. this video is now part of the case against probation officers accused of facilitating nearly 70 fights over six months. back in 2023, 143 children and teens took part, as prosecutors say the officers looked on, even laughed. >> watching the video. the officers look more like referees or audience members at a prize fight, not adults charged with the care and supervision of young people. the officers don't step in, don't intervene and don't protect their charges. >> the officers are facing multiple charges, including child abuse, conspiracy and

battery. the l.a. county probation department called the fights deeply troubling and says it applauds the indictments. the officers involved in the case are on unpaid leave, many making their first court appearance today. >> for years, we've been following the civil rights scandal in the antioch police department. tomorrow will be day two in the corruption trial for two ex antioch police officers. according to the east bay times, opening statements kicked off this morning and the trial is expected to span several weeks. federal prosecutors claim the two suspects plotted with each with other officers, to hurt people for sport while on duty. they're also accused of falsifying or omitting key details from police reports. their defense team says the officers were just doing their jobs and claims their text exchanges were just exaggerations, not plans for real abuse. >> in an effort to combat anti-semitism, the department of justice is sending a federal task force to uc berkeley. it will be investigating whether the university failed to protect jewish students and faculty

members from discrimination. pro-palestinian protests ignited across college campuses nationwide following the start of the israel-hamas war in october of 2023. this is video from uc berkeley last spring. uc berkeley is one of ten universities. the doj task force will be looking into including ucla and usc. the doj did not say when the visits would happen. >> hundreds of students are expected to be back in school tomorrow after vandalism so extensive at their school it had to be shut down. it happened early this morning at john reed elementary school in rohnert park. the superintendent would not confirm what kind of damage was done, but says about half the classrooms were affected. we spoke with parents who say they wish there was more security measures, or were more security measures going forward. >> when i moved out here, i noticed that the schools aren't gated and for i'm very scared for my kids to start school here because that's one thing i don't like. >> we're also assessing that and

what we need to do to make sure that our campuses are safe. >> crews spent the day cleaning up and determining if anything was stolen. class is expected to resume tomorrow. police are investigating the vandalism, but they have not made any arrests. >> a possible battery fire and explosion caused $100,000 worth of damage to a restaurant in mountain view. the flames raced through maison elysee on castro street this morning. firefighters say the fire caused a co2 cylinder inside to explode. one employee evacuated. firefighters are looking into whether the spark came from a lithium ion battery for yard equipment that was left charging unattended. battery fires are becoming a bigger problem for bay area firefighters. just yesterday, a scooter's lithium battery was also to blame for sparking a fire inside the balmoral hotel in san francisco's chinatown. >> a federal judge says a monterey bay aquarium conservation program can be sued for defamation by a group of lobster fishermen. the lawsuit

focuses on the aquarium's awareness campaign about sustainable food. seafood watch put lobster from the u.s. and canada on its do not eat red list in 2022. some retailers then pulled lobster from the stores. a fishermen's group out of maine sued, claiming the red listing damaged their industry's reputation. a spokesperson for the monterey bay aquarium says it has a right to share its recommendations with the public. a federal judge is allowing the lawsuit to move forward. >> all right. we are on a bit of a roller coaster. it felt like spring for a while. now we're back to winter. >> i know, and rain coming back. i'm meteorologist sandhya patel is here. sandy. >> yeah. it's going to be an unsettled pattern the next couple of days. and let me show you a live picture from our sutro tower camera. the winds have really dropped off. was a gusty start earlier today. a beautiful view from downtown san francisco. let's look at our rain chances. they're going up starting tomorrow. best opportunity for wet weather is going to be wednesday, thursday and sunday night. as we look at

live doppler seven, here is this first system that is really not going to bring a whole lot to us, other than some drizzle and spotty showers right now. you will notice that on live doppler seven looping it, most of that moisture is still off the coastline and evaporating before it actually reaches land. temperatures at this hour in the 40s and the 50. live view of emeryville camera looking at san francisco and the bay bridge. it's beautiful. tomorrow. drizzle. isolated showers. midweek. we're looking at scattered showers. and then friday into saturday it's going to be sunnier and milder weather before that. next system gets in sunday night going into monday. so let's talk about tomorrow morning, 9:00. you might notice some wet roadways across parts of the north bay, san francisco, but you will notice as we head into 11:00 am, it's very spotty in nature. and then it's gone. our next organized band of showers comes through wednesday night at 530. light to moderate in intensity going into 730. east bay, south bay. and then thursday, a little bit of cold.

enough air that over mount hamilton. we are talking about snow. you'll notice the showers are focused mostly towards the southern part of our viewing area, even though all areas are pretty much fair game to get wet. whether the rainfall will reflect the higher probability of higher totals in the southern part of our viewing area. third of an inch in san jose, 4/10 in mountain view. a few hundredths of an inch in places like santa rosa and novato. it turns to snow in the mountains. winter weather advisory 4 a.m. wednesday until 4 p.m. thursday. above 5000ft in the sierra uh- 8 to 14in above 6000ft. travel could be difficult, so keep that in mind. i do want to show you the snowfall projections. blue canyon five inches by thursday night. kyburz six inches will continue to take any snow we can get. temperatures first thing in the morning in the 30s and 40s. so yes, you will need a jacket. it will be damp in spots, so i would grab the umbrellas if i were you and just hang on to them the rest of the day, just in case you need them. temperatures will remain below average mid 50s to the low 60s.

and here's a look at the accuweather seven day forecast a few showers, not enough to put the storm impact scale tomorrow. we'll bring it on on wednesday and on thursday. that's when we're expecting best probability of showers, dry and sunny and milder for friday and saturday. it will feel like march again that then late sunday night going into monday, we have another level one system coming in. just a reminder, we are springing forward sunday, so daylight saving time begins and i know we lose that hour. but we gain that hour. lose the hour of sleep, but gain that hour of daylight. >> that's always nice. >> yeah. i'm not losing the sleep. i make it up. >> the. >>
