>> all right. now let's get to the accuweather forecast. parts of the south bay, like here in san jose, woke up to a wet morning. abc7 news weather anchor spencer christian here now to tell us when those spotty showers will resume. spencer. >> well, larry, we have more of them coming our way. this is not a very well organized system, but as you look at the satellite radar image, you can see showers are still with us. still have a stormy pattern. we just had a severe thunderstorm a few minutes ago over in the well. it's east of hollister now. moving the storm, by the way, has weakened so we don't have the lightning strikes anymore. but there were strong wind gusts and small hailstones. and you can see on the satellite radar image that the low pressure system that produced this weather today is pushing south of the bay area down towards los angeles. so we're getting a little bit of a lull in the activity right now. but it's not all over by any stretch of the imagination. on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale, this is a level one storm for tonight and tomorrow. we expect periods of showers, possible thunderstorms, and strong gusty wind forecast animation. starting at 5 p.m. shows that break ending in the early evening hours as more showers start to
4:06 pm
swing through the bay area tonight and overnight, with cold air producing some snow on the higher bay area peaks, for example, 6 a.m. or so. we'll see snow accumulating, perhaps in the higher peaks around mount hamilton area, as showers continue into the midday hours before breaking up tomorrow, and then a few more trailing showers after that. and i have good news about a warm up that will come later in my accuweather seven day forecast. >> larry. can't wait to hear about that. thank you spencer. you can track the wet weather using the same live doppler seven tools that spencer and the rest of our weather team uses. all you have to do is head to abc7 news.com, or the abc seven bay area app to get the full forecast. >> the trump administration has imposed significant changes to our upcoming tax season. >> yes, seven on your side's tax chat, which we do every year, is here to help sort things out. and we have a panel of experts to help you. >> that's right. seven on yr side. stephanie sierra is taking questions from our viewers as we speak. hey, steph, what's going on? >> hey there, kristen and larry. i want to show you our panel of

4:08 pm
turns out to be a scammer? we've heard several cases of that they never filed and they stole viewers refunds. >> in that situation, the irs also has a form for that. the 14 159 is to go and say that you believe the person is doing misconduct, not filing tax returns that they've been paid to do. there's a variation with the letter a afterwards, which is to go and report a person that actually steals the refunds or files false tax returns without your permission. so that will make it where the irs goes after that preparer. if it's a big enough situation, you can even potentially get a whistleblower reward while the irs goes and actually tries to get that bad preparer out of business and can try and make it where you get part of that retribution. >> great tips. it's hard to imagine it happens as frequently as it does. chris, thanks so much for your time. we'll see you again in our 6:00 hour, and we'll be live with you all evening. again, remember to submit those questions back to you. >> all right. thank you steph. >> i just had a viewer text me and say, i got to submit my question to steph right

will pass in san mateo county, giving the board of supervisors the power to remove the sheriff. however, in a statement obtained by abc seven news, sheriff christina corpus remains adamant she will not resign. she also says she's looking forward to the opportunity to, quote, disprove the politically motivated allegations. corpus is accused of corruption, nepotism and retaliation within the department, which she denies. a member of the board of supervisors addressed measure a this afternoon. >> the results of this historic election send a clear message that san mateo county voters continue to make educated decisions and trust the board of supervisors to uphold accountability and justice.
4:13 pm
>> four out of the five supervisors would need to vote in favor of removing corpus. the temporary power will expire at the end of 2028. abc seven i-team reporter dan noyes has been covering this ongoing controversy with the sheriff, since those allegations were made in a scathing audit report this past november. >> and sheriff corpus legal team is calling into question the credibility of a key witness, who was cited dozens of times in that report. and dan is here now with exclusive information about a witness known as civilian employee number three specifically. >> right. well, larry and kristen, both sides are preparing for the legal battles ahead. one public official has already agreed to testify under oath at the proper time about threats he allegedly heard from civilian employee number three that she wanted to take down the sheriff because she didn't get a. promotion. it's been quite a turnaround for civilian employee number three. she worked at the san mateo county sheriff's bureau in millbrae when christina corpus was captain and chief there.
4:14 pm
>> hello, everyone. it's christina corpus, candidate for san mateo county sheriff 2022. >> and she took on a public role when corpus ran for sheriff, volunteering on the campaign, attending this kickoff rally and introducing corpus to voters online. it's a much different story now. employee number three campaigned on her social media for measure a to give the board of supervisors the power to fire the sheriff, saying corpus is unfit for duty. but a public official in millbrae tells the i-team he will testify under oath at the proper time that on 12 to 15 different occasions, employee number three told him she was going to get corpus. i obtained an interview the public official gave to the sheriff's legal team, in which he identifies employee number three and says, quote, i have information that was conveyed to me directly by employee number three that she was out to get sheriff corpus after she was elected, and that she would do anything to bring her down. that public official said employee number three expected a promotion once corpus became sheriff after the work she did
4:15 pm
on the campaign. but it never happened. and employee number three was furious. again, a quote from the public officials interview. i remember she was, i'm going to get that a couple of different times and saying that she's going to go after her. and this is the way that employee number three talks. oh, it's going to come down on her. that type of language and communication. and that's to me directly. >> she's out for vengeance for me. she's out for vengeance. >> shortly after the release of the audit report in november, sheriff corpus told me a lawyer pressured her office for a promotion for employee number three. >> a prominent san mateo county female attorney. went to one of my captains and said that if i didn't give this person a promotion, then i was going to regret it. >> when did that conversation happen? >> oh, probably about maybe a year ago or so. maybe a year ago. >> so shortly after you took office, or within the first year of you taking office. that attorney tells me she did
4:16 pm
inquire about a promotion for employee number three, but not as her lawyer, just as a family friend, and that she never made a threat. like the sheriff will regret it. but that millbrae public official said in their meetings, employee number three, quote, would communicate her absolute displeasure with christina and the threat of going after her and, quote unquote, getting the sheriff. civilian employee number three was among 40 current and past sworn and civilian employees interviewed by retired judge ladoris cordell, who was paid $200,000 by san mateo county to investigate complaints against the sheriff. employee number three's accusations are cited dozens of times in the 400 page report. much more than any of the other witnesses. for example, employee number three claimed corpus called former sheriff carlos bolanos a racial slur twice. on one occasion at the millbrae bureau, employee three says that you were looking over her shoulder at a zoom with bolanos on the screen, that you drop the n word twice. >> i don't use that word. i
4:17 pm
don't use that word. >> according to the report, employee three gave judge cordell a text message she claims came from the sheriff using a derogatory expression for a gay council member. did you write those words? >> no, i had to look. what? look that up. because i was unclear as to what that was. >> right. that's not your text. >> no, it's not my text. i did not send that. >> but the majority of employee three's accusations cited in the report focus on an explosive allegation that sheriff corpus and her chief of staff, victor, may have a relationship that is far beyond professional and that as a result, he wielded considerable power in the office and that you've turned over control of the department to him. >> well, really. >> what do you say to that garbage? >> i say it's false. i am not having an affair with him. i've known victor for 17 years. 17 years, and we are colleagues. i consider him a trusted confidant, a friend. is it because i'm a woman and i can't
4:18 pm
have a man next to me that i trust without having a sexual relationship with him? >> they both denied it in my exclusive interviews. during all that time, did you and her ever become romantic? no. there's never been physical contact or a dating relationship? no. that public official told the sheriff's legal team, quote, my professional opinion of the report is that it isn't worth the paper it's written on. i don't think that that report has any merit at all. i think it has a lot of fatal flaws, and it's not a legitimate, true, independent investigation. charles stone is the lawyer for employee number three. he told me neither he nor his client would comment for this report. i also called judge cordell and sent her an email with a specific list of questions, and she did not answer. one other thing i found interesting. take a look. judge cordell has a personal website where she is posting ongoing coverage of the scandal, but you won't find any of my stories there that are pointed out her mistakes in her

audit report. you can see all of our coverage at abc seven news.com. >> how long will it take for all this to unfold? >> weeks and weeks. you know, we'll find out. clearly a lot of motions to be heard, jockeying back and forth between the two sides. at least, you know, 4 to 6 weeks. >> okay. all right. thank you. dan. >> thanks. all right. a reminder. well, if you want to get ahold of the i-team, just text dan. yes, twitter. twitter. all the things, all the social medias. >> if you want to get ahold of spencer, though, nasa, we're going to get some more showers tonight. all you have to do is stay tuned. hey. >> we just might get some more. there's a pretty strong chance of some more scattered showers after a day in which we have seen scattered showers, with sunny breaks developing right now, and even a thunderstorm earlier down in the hollister area. now here's a look at the satellite radar composite image. it's this low pressure system that is traveling southward down towards southern california. but it brought us the showers we've had today and the instability that produced that thunderstorm. and there are more showers associated with an approaching cold front. so we may have more showers developing tonight and

passed by fremont last month, was considered to be one of the toughest laws in the country in tackling homelessness. but last night, the city voted to consider revising the strictest part of the law. abc seven news reporter anser hassan tells us that housing advocates say that is still not enough. >> in a61 vote tuesday night, fremont city council resolved to amend a controversial camping ordinance passed in february to clear homeless encampments. the revision seeks to remove the section around aiding and abetting. >> our intention was aiding and abetting would be if you build large structures like tree houses or large wooden structures. but people were saying that it was if we give water or food or we help
4:26 pm
somebody, and that was never our intention. >> newly elected fremont mayor rod sullivan says the city has gone on record to clarify this, but thought it's important to revise the language to remove any ambiguity in the law. >> remove this because we want people to feel confident that they can help their neighbors, and they can provide food, water services to everyone. >> fremont is estimated to have 800 homeless people. 700 of whom are unsheltered. the ordinance, passed in february, bans camping on any public property like sidewalks, parks and open space. the city could also criminally charge those aiding or abetting a homeless camp, which homeless advocates argued included providing tents or sleeping bags. the penalty? a fine of up to $1,000 and up to six months in jail. >> it was clear from last night's conversation that nothing short of the threatf jail would be acceptable to the city council. >> vivian wong is ceo of abode services, a homeless and housing agency. she's not convinced. she argues even if the city removes

language from the ordinance, the problem is that aiding and abetting is still a violation of fremont's municipal code, and nonprofits like hers that violate the law could lose city and state funding. >> again, by breaking the law is really, you know, sleeping outside now, then we could still be prosecuted through the municipal code. >> as it stands, the current ordinance takes effect next week. any revisions that are approved would still have to pass through a first and second reading, which could be months away. in fremont, anser hassan abc seven news. >> today, christians are celebrating ash wednesday, marking the beginning of lent amid the easter season. this morning, services were held at saint paul's catholic church in san francisco. christians traditionally fast and receive a cross of ashes on their forehead. the ashes represent repentance and purification. many christians also take make a lent sacrifice, giving up something they enjoy for 40 days until easter.

answer is it depends. right. as we were chatting. well this next one is signed from quote two very confused newlyweds. and they're wondering if there's an easy way to know if they should file married filing jointly or married filing separate. is there an easy way? >> no, there isn't an easy way, especially for newlyweds, because your filing status is determined by your marital status on the last day of the year. so it doesn't matter when during the year they got married, they're going to be married in the last day of the year. and so they're going to be either filing a married joint or married separate. the problem that they're going to have is from january 1st of 2024 to the day they got married, it's what we call separate property. but the day after they're married till the end of the year, it's community property and half of one spouse's income belongs to the other spouse and vice versa. so they're going to have to do a lot of calculations, run the
