daetz. >> and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. ballots are still being counted, but so far, measure a appears to be passing with 85% of voters saying yes. >> however, the voter turnout was very low, with only about 20% of registered voters participating in the election. >> abc seven news political reporter monica madden is live in redwood city with the very latest. monica. yeah, dan. >> it will be at least 40 days before the board can take the unprecedented steps of removing sheriff cristina corpus from office. but with the overwhelming preliminary results, it's looking like supervisors will soon be armed with the power to fire her. >> the results of this historic election sent a clear message. >> in a wednesday press conference. supervisors ray mueller and noelia corzo explained what's next after san mateo county voters overwhelmingly approved measure a. >> we will move forward as quickly as possible. >> once the election results are certified, it will trigger the process of sheriff cristina corpus removal, and it will take

time. >> soon after, county staff will seek direction from the board of supervisors and a public meeting regarding procedures that will be used to conduct a removal hearing. prior to a removal hearing, the sheriff will be served with a written statement of grounds for removal. the sheriff will then be given a reasonable opportunity, both in writing and in person, to, prior to, and during the hearing, to be heard regarding any explanation or defense. >> supervisors corzo and mueller led the effort to get measure a on the ballot, and previously called for corpus to resign, but vow objectivity. going forward. >> the county will implement clear procedures to ensure a public, impartial and lawful process. >> the public controversy began in november after an independent report sustained several internal allegations that corpus abused her power, engaged in nepotism and retaliation. she denies all allegations and tells

abc seven news that with such a low turnout, this is, quote, hardly a mandate to remove her from office. corpus goes on to say, quote, i now have the opportunity to formally challenge and disprove the politically motivated allegations against me. i will not resign. i will continue to fulfill my oath to do my job, and work tirelessly to keep the residents of san mateo county safe. four out of the county's five supervisors will need to vote yes in order to oust her. lawyers for corpus tell me they are considering all options on the table right now for possible legal action, depending on the ultimate outcome. now, keep in mind the elections division still has to certify the results. they have 30 days to do that. live in san mateo county. monica madden, abc seven news. >> all right, monica, thanks very much. a new lawsuit accuses a san bruno school district of failing to prevent a teacher from sexually abusing four of his students. abc seven news reporter tim johns is in

burlingame with the story. >> a new lawsuit is accusing the san bruno park school district of failing to protect several of their students from this man. 34 year old jeremy yee is a former elementary school teacher in the district. last week, he was found guilty on 17 separate felony counts of child molestation. during a news conference to announce the new lawsuit wednesday, one of yee's young victims shared her story. >> i wish that things could have happened sooner and i could have gotten justice sooner rather than waiting for so long. >> yee sexually abused at least four of his students, the lawsuit laying out some of his behavior. >> he had a game called tickle time where he would come and tickle the girls. he gave students extra credit points for behavior in the classroom, and as a reward for that, they got to stay behind and have recess alone with him in his classroom. >> the suit also claims the school district repeatedly failed to act after it received multiple complaints about yee's behavior, dating as far back as 2017.

>> because that student was called a liar and was directed to recant. that didn't flow up the chain the way it was supposed to. and that's why these lawsuits have been brought. >> also present at wednesday's news conference were the parents of other victims, some of them speaking to the media through a translator. one parent who wished to remain unidentified, highlighting the psychological issues his daughter still faces years after her abuse. >> she was a very stable daughter, very stable, emotionally, very happy, and has drastically changed as a result of this. >> lawyers believe there are still several victims of yee who have yet to come forward. one reason why the victim, who went public on wednesday, says she's determined to speak out. >> it's something you had to be really, really strong for, but you got it. and don't let other people define who you are because of something you went through. >> the san bruno park school district did not return our request for comment. in san bruno, tim jonze, abc seven news. >> now, if you or someone you

afternoon, we had severe thunderstorms rolling through parts of eastern santa clara county. they did have. you can see their downpours associated with it moving just near gilroy, heading out towards san benito county. now as we look at live doppler seven right now all is quiet. but that will be changing once again as another system is coming in. it's a level one on our storm impact scale and it will get in here later tonight, going into tomorrow as we go, hour by hour, 9:00 this evening, some spotty showers showing up, heading into 430 in the morning, even some higher elevation snow over mount hamilton. keep those umbrellas handy because those showers continue really at 730 in the morning and really into the early afternoon before all is said and done and into the evening hours. it is gusty right now, 32 miles an hour in san francisco, gusts to 37 at this hour in oakland. i'll be back to let you know when it's going to get sunny and warmer around here in just a few minutes. ama. >> okay, sandhya. thank you. we'll check back in the east

bay. browned out fire stations in oakland are set to reopen. oakland city council voted last night to reopen the stations by july 3rd, were temporarily closed in january, and four additional stations were expected to close. $2 million in funding from the coliseum sale will be used to reopen the stations. >> hope springs eternal. we are hopeful that the firehouse openings that we're now at full capacity will stick, and we won't have to pivot and close again at any other point. i have every reason to believe council in the budget office is working hard to ensure that we can keep our firehouses open long term. >> oakland is struggling with a $129 million budget deficit. >> a stanford university doctor who president trump has nominated to be the director of the national institutes of health, began his senate confirmation hearing today. doctor jay bhattacharya is a professor of medicine, economics and health research policy at stanford. he's a harsh critic of many covid policies, like the mandatory lockdowns and vaccine

breaking asking price of $40 million. in hillsborough, zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> it is a beautiful home. well, the san francisco museum of modern art is planning the first posthumous full career exhibition of ruth asawa's art. she's known for her for her abstract looped wire sculptures as well as fountains around the city. google donated $1.5 million to sfmoma to make the exhibit possible. that's the largest corporate grant in the museum's history for a single exhibition. the ruth asawa retrospective opens april 5th and will run through september. tickets go on sale starting next tuesday. that should be wonderful. >> all right, it's time to find out how our weather is doing. it looks pretty nice behind us. >> nice, but more rain is coming after a good bit of rain fell today. meteorologist sandhya patel is back. sandy. >> yeah, and dan and parts of the bay area did get wet. the focus was in the southern and eastern part of our viewing area. i do want to show you a live picture. a pretty one from zephyr cove right now, where we

are noticing choppy waters and there have been some snowflakes as you see there. the statewide snow pack is at 83% of average right now. chain controls on 88. winter weather advisory until 4 p.m. tomorrow. above 4000ft. expecting travel to be difficult at times. 10 to 16in of snow above 5500ft. and you can see the snow on live doppler seven right across the sierra. thunderstorms in northern california. we've had our share in parts of the south bay. earlier this afternoon, severe thunderstorm warnings were issued. right now all is quiet on live doppler seven, but you could see those showers. the rain that moved through earlier today. parts of the south bay, the east bay, the santa cruz mountains got in on it. but if you were in the north bay or san francisco, you really didn't see a whole lot. there is some cold, unstable air associated with the next round, so do expect the potential for some more thunderstorm activity. temperatures right now 40 to 60. it's a level one system. tonight and tomorrow. scattered showers, gusty winds, a chance of thunder

and snow on our highest peaks. 9:00 tonight. you notice those showers moving in as we head towards 4 a.m? a little bit of snow mixing in with the showers over mount hamilton. now the morning commute will include some more wet roadways. as you will notice at 7 a.m. 10 a.m. focused in the south bay and then isolated showers for the afternoon and evening before this is all done. additional rainfall totals anywhere from a couple hundredths of an inch to about a quarter of an inch there in ben lomond. your morning temperatures. well, you're going to feel the chill tomorrow, so you will need the heavier jackets 30s and 40s. and as we head into the afternoon hours, you are looking at high temperatures ranging from the 50s to the 60s. it is going to be a chilly day as well, and when you add the breeze to the mix, it feels even colder. the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a level one for tomorrow. we'll call for showers. a chance of thunder. after that you can put the umbrellas away at least for three days. you got sunshine for your outdoor weekend plans and the time changes. sunday you spring forward one hour and then
