here and we're going to add a wintry mix into the forecast for tomorrow. i'll show you in just a moment on live doppler seven, we are seeing the showers crossing parts of the east bay and the south bay as we get you into street level radar right around sunol 84. we're seeing some light to moderate showers. also right around cupertino. saratoga area heading down towards the santa cruz mountains. you see very spotty showers right now. it is a level one on our storm impact scale. it has brought thunderstorms to parts of california, including santa clara county. this afternoon. the sierra has been picking up some of the white fluffy snow. and right now, as we look at the hourly forecast tomorrow, the morning commute will include some damp pavement along with some snow over mount hamilton. by 730 in the morning. those showers are going to continue at 9 a.m. it is still gusty right now at oakland, 38 miles an hour and you will notice that the gusty winds remain with us going into tomorrow. i'll be back with a full look at the forecast, which does include a change, but i do

want to show you this live picture. we'll talk about sierra snow coming right up. all right okay. >> thank you sandhya. and you can track the wet weather this week using the same live doppler seven tools that sandhya and our weather team use. head to abc seven news.com or the abc seven bay area app. and that's where you can get the full forecast. >> an attempted kidnaping along san francisco's embarcadero. and tonight san francisco police say no arrests have been made. a good samaritan say they helped a grandmother fend off a woman who tried to take her two year old granddaughter. this happened on friday night. here's abc seven news reporter j.r. stone. >> the attacker was screaming, that's not your baby. this is my baby. don't take her. and then, you know, forcibly hitting her. >> alyssa zions is describing what happened in this area along the embarcadero last friday, when she watched a woman begin screaming, then attacking a grandmother and her two year old granddaughter, forcing the grandmother to do all she could to protect the child. >> she was like throwing her whole body into protecting this

baby, like the baby was in front of her. she kept her shoulder to the attacker, so she was getting hits from the attacker. like the push pull. and yes, the attacker had hands on that baby. >> police tell me they did respond to the area, but not here where it happened at embarcadero and townsend. they responded 800ft down at embarcadero and brannan. that was at 5:55 p.m. officers say they couldn't find a victim. and less than ten minutes later, at 6:04 p.m, a report of gunshots fired at a parking control officer at eighth and brannan came in. all units responded to that. >> i gave the exact location between brannan and townsend street on the embarcadero, and that there's an active attempted kidnaping happening. >> and no response. >> no response. >> alyssa says the grandmother was going car to car, knocking on windows of vehicles in traffic, trying to get help. alyssa, her husband, and a random uber driver were the only ones to step in and do something. >> so the three of us, my

husband and the gentleman in the uber and myself, we assisted with getting the attacker away who took off down the street. and then we got the grandmother and the baby safe, calm and able to return home. >> police say no arrests have been made. >> she had just the hollowed out, sunken look for her features. and then just those bright red, chapped lips. my husband and i have seen her throughout our neighborhood before. >> as for the child, family members tell me they're hopeful this won't have a long term effect on her. physically, she is okay, but she has been waking up crying at night since this happened in san francisco. j.r. stone abc seven news. >> obviously really scary for her, understandably, but we want to put it into some kind of context and perspective. the national center for missing and exploited children says 99% of child abduction cases they handle have to do with a family member. fewer than 1% involve a complete stranger taking a child. you can get detailed information about what crime is

like where you live with our abc seven neighborhood safety tracker. you'll find it at abc seven news.com or on our abc seven bay area app. >> one person is dead following a house fire this evening in concord. the fire department tells us it was called out to a home on saratoga avenue around 6:15 p.m. when firefighters arrived, the fire was out, but as they checked out the scene, they found a body. investigators say it appears the fire started on the outside of the home. they have not shared any details about the victim. new at 11 oakland police have released body camera footage of an officer shooting a suspect last month. it happened around five in the morning on macarthur boulevard near 66th avenue back on january 4th. they released one video in which you can hear gunfire, while another shows the suspect carrying what they say is an assault weapon. an officer spotted the man gave chase. the body camera footage shows what happened next. >> get on the ground. oakland police get on the ground.

the ground! get on the ground! you look around. are you shot me! get on the ground! shots fired! >> the suspect ended up getting into a standoff before surrendering. he has since recovered and faces multiple charges. >> unless there is a dramatic change, voters are ready to give the san mateo board of supervisors the power to remove the elected sheriff. 85% have voted in favor of measure a so far. assuming that holds, it could be at least 40 days before the board takes the first steps to remove sheriff christina corpus. >> soon after, county staff will seek direction from the board of supervisors and a public meeting regarding procedures that will be used to conduct a removal hearing prior to a removal hearing. the sheriff will be served with a written statement of grounds for removal. >> sheriff corpus is accused of abuse of power, nepotism and

retaliation. she has vehemently denied all the allegations. she released this statement today saying, quote, i now have the opportunity to formally challenge and disprove the politically motivated allegations against me. i will not resign. she goes on, i will continue to fulfill my oath, do my job, and work tirelessly to keep the residents of san mateo county safe. end quote. >> the bay area has another special election coming up in a little more than a month. it's the race to replace former san jose city council member omar torres, who resigned amid molestation charges last fall. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez breaks down who's running and what residents say they want to see. >> seven candidates are running to represent the heart of san jose, the businesses and neighborhoods that make up downtown. ruth herrera runs one of those businesses an eco friendly store. >> even the days when i close it for 30, i usually stay past 430 to like seven, 8 or 9. >> as a small business owner doing it all herself, she hopes whoever will represent people working and living in downtown

public transit. state lawmakers held a hearing to discuss the funding conundrum. >> and the way we see it. we're staring. both down a steep slope of declining revenues, but as. >> well as an absolute cliff. >> according to san jose's state's mineta transportation institute, gas tax revenue is expected to drop by a third over the next 15 years. heavier electric vehicles cause more wear and tear on roads, making repair money even more necessary. >> the sfmta's board of directors has unanimously approved a plan to expand bike lanes throughout san francisco. the so-called biking and rolling plan will link 10% of city streets to a network of bike lanes, with the goal that every resident is within a quarter mile of a protected lane. the plan is meant to improve bike access to schools, jobs, parks and other services. the project is estimated to take 20 years to complete. there's a legal fight tonight over a uc santa cruz student who was banned from campus last year for

in washington today, the united states paused all intelligence sharing with ukraine. meanwhile, senate democrats introduced six resolutions tonight condemning russia for the invasion and expressing support for ukraine. each time republicans moved to block the resolutions. this week, president trump paused all shipments of military aid to ukraine after more than a week of open hostility between washington and kyiv. >> i want all americans to know that we are grateful, and it's so unfair to say that we are not. >> tonight we're hearing from ukrainians living in california, frustrated over the state of the war and with washington. abc

translating into monetary support as well. >> a number of people who are donating has increased since last week. we definitely need to make sure it continues. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> we're also following the story of the trump administration's efforts to dissolve the presidio trust in a new report to a federal budget office. the trust is defending itself. it's been two weeks since the president issued the order to eliminate the federal agency that manages the historic san francisco park. the trust says it hasn't received an annual appropriation from the federal government in 13 years, arguing it's a minimal cost to taxpayers. >> the president's firing of federal workers is fueling protests, including at california's national parks. we've shown you the upside down american flag hanging from el capitan in yosemite just weeks ago. the park's now former locksmith, nate vince, says he was part of that protest. vince was among those fired via email last month. tonight, he's one of the guests on jimmy kimmel live!

do want to show you where we are picking up some showers, really spotty right around boulder creek. you will notice out towards morgan hill, aptos area and also on the peninsula. we are seeing a few showers around 280 los altos hills, moody road, north san antonio road in the los altos area. earlier today, there were thunderstorms in eastern santa clara county. there were strong thunderstorms this afternoon that did dump quite a bit of rain. let me show you how much rain we're talking about. morgan hill picked up 6/10 of an inch just as that cell moved over 1400 in san jose. you know, this morning, a lot of this rain was right around the south bay, parts of the east bay and the peninsula. so palo alto, fremont, five hundredths of an inch, livermore four hundredths and mountain view a little bit more than that. temperatures right now in the 40s and the 50s, as we look at a live view from our east bay hills camera. visibility is all right through tomorrow. we're going to go with spotty showers friday through the weekend, sunny and warmer weather, and next week more rain is coming

our way, so it's going to be a pretty active pattern for march, but you get a break in between. it's a level one for tonight and tomorrow. scattered showers, gusty winds, a chance of thunderstorms as we head into tomorrow morning. snow on our highest peaks and we're going to go hour by hour. i'm going to show you what you can expect. so out the door tomorrow morning, just grab the umbrellas just in case you need them. 4 a.m. there will be some showers around, light to moderate in intensity at 6 a.m. notice right over mount hamilton. it's switching over to snow. 8 a.m. you're still seeing those showers and snow showers. and then by noon, becoming really isolated in the southern and eastern part of our viewing area. and it's pretty much done after that. so rainfall projections additional nothing measurable to about a quarter of an inch in ben lomond. here's a look at your morning temperatures. bundle up. it's going to be cold mid 30s to the mid 40s. certainly colder than what we've had the last couple of days. and then tomorrow afternoon we'll call it partly cloudy and breezy, mid 50s to the low 60s in places like santa rosa. here's your
