pop down to san jose. those headlights on 280 headed in the northbound direction, directly under 17 880. both highways are moving well this morning. as you can see, we've got our usual slowdown over the altamont pass and 580. the merge to 205 is very slow as well. and we had a car fire northbound 101 near great america parkway. it's now temporarily blocking the right lane. take a look at that backup, though. it's all the way back to san jose and very slow as you can see on the span. that would be the bay bridge heading into the city. >> also, sue, it's march 6th. just want to correct what i said earlier. facing market pressure and even some pushback from members of his own party. president trump is granting a one month exemption on his stiff new tariffs on imports from mexico and canada for u.s. automakers. that pause comes after the president spoke with leaders of the big three ford, general motors and stellantis yesterday. tariffs on other items are not being delayed.

economists warn americans will start to see prices increase very soon. the first place will likely be at the grocery store. prices on other items will spike as time goes on. that's everything from clothing to electronics. according to a study by yale budget lab, the tariffs could cost the average american household up to $2,000 more annually. >> happening today, the saga surrounding the future of the oakland coliseum is set to take another twist. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in the studio, with more on the last minute meeting called for today. good morning lena. >> good morning gloria. after months of waiting, a special meeting has been called by the alameda county supervisors today. that's where they're expected to give an update on the sale of the coliseum to a group of private developers and investors. according to the agenda, supervisors will meet for a closed session with county attorneys first. then board president david haubert will give an update on the sale back in january. the board of supervisors voted unanimously to move forward with the sale of

the county's ownership share of the oakland coliseum to the african american sports and entertainment group, all for a $125 million price tag. but that deal still hasn't been finalized. those funds were expected to help with oakland's $89 million budget deficit, but because of delays, the city made other cost saving measures that included closing three fire stations, laying off about 40 people, a hiring freeze and slashing the police department's overtime budget. though they just recently found other money to reopen those fire stations. the african american sports and entertainment group has proposed a $5 billion project for the site, expected to include some affordable housing, a youth amphitheater, restaurants and museums according to their agenda. this meeting is expected to start this afternoon around 3:00, starting with public comment on this issue. live in studio lena howland, abc seven news. >> lena, thank you. for the second time in two weeks, police are investigating a shooting on

highway 24. the latest incident shut down all westbound lanes near orinda for about an hour yesterday, and that backed up traffic for miles. you can see there the suv that got struck by gunfire. a 66 year old man who was behind the wheel. a man is to avoid getting seriously hurt. sky seven spotted multiple drivers who just walked off the freeway to get out of the gridlock last tuesday, someone else fired several shots on highway 24 in oakland, striking a driver on the legs. a 19 year old is under arrest for shooting on southbound interstate 880, in oakland. the chp shared this picture of the gun recovered from his oakland home. they believe it was used in the shooting. it happened around 7:30 a.m. tuesday near 16th avenue. the driver wasn't hurt and later told investigators the suspect was possibly driving in his neighborhood. oakland police officers located the vehicle, which was parked and unoccupied, and they staked it out. they moved in when two people came back and arrested, one on charges including attempted

murder. also in the east bay, a house fire in concord left one person dead. the fire department responded to the fire at a home on saratoga avenue around 615 last night. when firefighters got there, the flames were out, but as they checked the scene, they did find a body. investigators say it appears the fire started outside the home. they haven't shared any details about the victim. >> a frightening scene along san francisco's waterfront last week. a woman and her two year old granddaughter were attacked while walking along the embarcadero near townsend street. >> she was like throwing her whole body into protecting this baby like the baby was in front of her. she kept her shoulder to the attacker, so she was getting hits from the attacker. like the push pull. and yes, the attacker had hands on that baby. the attacker was screaming, that's not your baby! this is my baby. don't take her. and then, you know, forcibly hitting her. >> alyssa zions, her husband and an uber driver were the good samaritans who stepped in to try

to help. zion says that they were able to get the attacker off the grandmother and the child, and they called police. the attacker took off before police arrived. zion says officers actually went to the wrong location about 800ft down the street, then stopped searching after about ten minutes when they got another call. police say no arrests have been made. as for the child, family members tell abc seven news she is physically fine but has been waking up crying at night since that incident. just a tragic. oakland police have released body camera footage of an officer shooting a suspect last month. it happened the morning of january 4th on macarthur boulevard near 66th avenue. they released one video in which you can hear gunfire, while another shows the suspect carrying what they say is an assault weapon. an officer spotted the man and chased him. the body camera footage shows what happened next. >> get on the ground, please. get on the ground!

republicans moved to block the resolutions. this week, president trump paused all shipments of military aid to ukraine after more than a week of open hostility between washington and kyiv. this morning we are hearing from ukrainians living here in california. they are frustrated with the state of the war and with washington, but grateful for the support they are receiving from americans. groups like nova ukraine, the bay area based nonprofit, has been working closely with organizations on the ground in ukraine, providing critical aid everything from medical equipment to winter clothing. >> number of people who are donating has increased since last week. we definitely need to make sure it continues. >> i received multiple phone calls and text messages from my friends who are americans, you know, saying they're sorry and they support they support us and the fight, our fight for democracy and for freedom. >> if you want to donate or purchase merchandise to support nova's cause, their website has

several options for you. >> the department of justice announced it's opening a civil rights investigation into the university of california system. the doj is alleging a potential pattern of anti-semitism on campus, claiming pro-palestinian protesters use anti-semitic signs and chants to oppose israel's war in gaza. protesters have argued that many jewish students were part of the protests, and that criticisms of israel are anti-zionist, not anti-jewish. representatives of the uc system say they are committed to combating anti-semitism. >> we are following the story of the trump administration's efforts to dissolve the presidio trust. in a new report to a federal budget office, the trust is defending itself. it has been two weeks since the president issued the order to eliminate the federal agency that manages the historic san francisco park. the trust says it has not received an annual appropriation from the federal government in 13 years, arguing it's of minimal cost to taxpayers. marshawn lynch is teaming up

with steph curry to make a documentary about the legendary mac dre, the rapper, who was born in oakland and raised in vallejo, was one of the pioneers of the hyphy movement in the early 2000. he was shot and killed in 2004, in kansas city. the documentary was announced in 2023, with curry as one of the producers, adding lynch's beast mode productions will give it an added boost. now, no word yet on a release date for that film. two east bay natives have joined the ownership group of the oakland ballers. green day's billie joe armstrong and oakland rapper too short are now owners. the ballers announced the news on social media yesterday, welcoming them both. this weekend you have a chance to join the team to. the ballers are having open tryouts on saturday in oakland, so if you feel like you have your skills, you can go try out for that. >> my baseball career lasted one season. >> and it was t ball. >> so that was it.

in the san francisco bay yesterday in front of marina green, and it sent six people into that very cold water. the fire department sent a boat and two jet skis to rescue them. firefighters say none of them needed medical attention. a spokesperson for the fire department noted it was unusually windy yesterday. los angeles county and two other cities have filed a lawsuit against a southern california utility company over the deadly eaton fire. the lawsuit was filed yesterday against southern california edison. it alleges the utility company's equipment caused the devastating blaze, which ignited on january 7th and

resulted in the deaths of 17 people and the destruction of thousands of structures. the los angeles county's complaint estimates the costs and damages from the eaton fire to be at least in the hundreds of millions of dollars. some high school students impacted by the devastating wildfires in la got a big surprise from actor steve carell. the office actor and comedian announced that he is working with the alice's kids charity to pay for prom for seniors at six high schools in pasadena. he says he'll reimburse students who have already paid for their prom tickets. the la area fire has destroyed more than 16,000 homes and businesses. the fire also burned school campuses. alice's kids will donate about $175,000 for more than 800 students to attend the annual rite of passage dance for graduating students. uc davis is facing some backlash for replacing its traditional men's and women's locker rooms with all gender spaces. the university announced

the $5 million project last month. it's expected to be complete in september. not everyone is on board. citing safety concerns, the university says safety and privacy concerns will be addressed. in a statement, the university said, quote, all campus recreation members can use our universal locker rooms regardless of how they identify. these spaces are inclusive of members with disabilities and all gender identities. we're now learning who will perform at one of the biggest rock festivals in northern california. aftershock will be held october 2nd through the fifth at discovery park in sacramento, and yesterday the lineup was announced. so you have blink 182, korn, bring me the horizon, a perfect circle, rob zombie of deftones. the festival brings around 160,000 people every year. next, at 630, the broadway musical hamilton won't take the stage at kennedy center. why the why? the producer is blaming the trump administration. plus, it's a summertime tradition, but some

would close the department. congressional approval is required to get rid of a federal agency. 72,000 jobs could be cut under a reorganization of the department of veterans affairs, the va's chief of staff told top level officials that the agency tuesday that it had an objective to cut enough employees to return to 2019 staffing levels of just under 400,000. >> a federal judge blocked the trump administration from drastically cutting medical research funding that many scientists say will endanger patients and cost jobs. the new national institutes of health policy would strip research groups of hundreds of millions of dollars. the money covers so-called indirect expenses of studying alzheimer's, cancer, heart disease and a host of other illnesses. everything from clinical trials of new treatments to basic lab research. that is the foundation for discovery. separate lawsuits filed by a group of 22 states, plus organizations representing universities, hospitals and research institutions nationwide

land in california may be upended because of the trump administration's federal spending freeze. the new york times reports nearly 4000 camp sites run by the ■forest service could close because of cutbacks. that includes tahoe's, desolation wilderness and mount whitney. visitor centers and backcountry trails might also not open. the producers of the hit broadway musical hamilton have canceled next year's run of the show at the kennedy center in washington, d.c. they are blaming president trump's recent takeover of the performing arts venue. lead producer jeffrey seller says the changes made recently, including firing professional staff and canceling several shows, has ended the center's spirit of nonpartisanship. he also cited concerns that their contract could be canceled or changed suddenly. this would have been hamilton's third run at the kennedy center. it first ran in 2018 during president trump's first term, and again in 2022, when joe biden was president. >> this afternoon, alameda county leaders are meeting over the long awaited sale of the

>> according to san jose state's mineta transportation institute, gas tax revenue is expected to drop by a third over the next 15 years. and because electric vehicles are heavier, they actually cause more wear and tear to our roads, making repair money even more necessary. >> the sfmta board of directors has unanimously approved a plan to expand bike lanes throughout san francisco. the so-called biking and rolling plan will link 10% of city streets to a network of bike lanes, with the goal that every resident is within a quarter mile of a protected lane. the plan is meant to improve bike access to schools, jobs, parks and other services. the project is estimated to take 20 years to complete. >> if one san francisco supervisor gets his way, union street in cow hollow could become the city's next entertainment zone. supervisor stephen sherrill introduced the legislation on tuesday. this is video of the annual union street festival. if approved, bars and restaurants in the area would be

mornings advancer our way of highlighting some things happening in the day ahead here in the bay area. >> first, the sonoma county community is rallying, marching, and sculpting in protest of staff and faculty cuts at sonoma state. so starting at noon today, protesters will be gathering at the mario savio speakers corner on redwood drive and on top of a march and rally. they're also going to be building a giant art piece out of banker's boxes, those cardboard boxes as a form of protest. so those are the type of boxes you often see in movies where people are fired. they're told to pack up their desks. according to their press release, the community is demanding that university administration reverse the devastating budget cuts. >> tonight is the first community meeting in san francisco to get feedback on renovations to embarcadero plaza. the plaza and neighboring sue bierman park are part of a proposed makeover expected to help revitalize the downtown area. the city and the developer are trying to secure 15 to $20 million in public funding for the project. upgrades could include a new fitness area,

officials will give an update on the results of tuesday's special election. now, unless there's a dramatic change, voters are poised to give the board of supervisors the power to remove the elected sheriff. as of last update, 85% had voted in favor of measure a. if that holds, it could be at least 40 days before the board takes the first steps to remove sheriff cristina. corbis. >> soon after, county staff will seek direction from the board of supervisors in a public meeting regarding procedures that will be used to conduct a removal hearing. prior to a removal hearing, the sheriff will be served with a written statement of grounds for removal. >> corpus is accused of abuse of power, nepotism and retaliation. she has denied all the allegations and she released a statement yesterday saying, quote, i now have the opportunity to formally
