states and the impact it's having on the markets. >> plus another possible measles death in the u.s. the warning from doctors as measles cases continue to rise. >> then the wait is finally over. a new costco opening in the east bay. the anticipation leading up to today's opening. >> good morning. it's friday, march 7th. >> yeah, we're going to turn to drew. first. take a look at the weather. >> yes. and today it's beautiful this weekend. get out. anything outside? you'll have fantastic spring like temperatures. so we'll take you high up above on our tam cam this morning, as we're seeing some of the colors of daylight as our sun rises in the sky this morning. but we are chilly. we have frost advisories in effect, especially for our valleys in the east bay and in the north bay. for good reason. you can see some of our coldest spots right now. we are beginning in the 30s, low and mid 40s around the bay shoreline. need the layers this morning? dress for these chilly temperatures. we are at 37 in calistoga, the same in santa rosa, down to 35 in sonoma and in napa. so looking at the frost

advisory here, you can see that until 9 a.m. areas shaded in blue have those temperatures in the 30s right now. and we stay pretty chilly until about 10 a.m. so here's future weather showing you post 10 a.m. it feels nice. we're mild by lunchtime and even warmer this afternoon. in fact, since this week has been so chilly, today is going to feel quite nice with temperatures back to average. finally for early march 60s on the board, it gets warmer here over the weekend. we'll show you those numbers coming up in eight minutes. let's check in with gloria, see how the commute is going. >> good morning so far. looking pretty good out there on the roads. traffic lighter on this friday as it usually is. this is a live look at our bay bridge toll plaza camera. we have the metering lights that did flip on about ten minutes ago, and you can see it is pretty busy out there, but nothing compared to what we see on a monday through friday. we did have a report of a stall there that was blocking the left lane. it was causing some earlier delays and the carpool lanes, but that still has been moved out. so all lanes are now open on the span. and looking at your drive time from

highway four to san francisco, it will take you 45 minutes. now we'll take a live look there in the north bay. we have our san rafael camera and traffic is flowing nicely there. it's an easy drive to santa rosa as you head into the city. no issues there. >> all right, gloria, thank you. there is growing confusion around president trump's new tariffs. yesterday, the president issued a pause on taxing some products from mexico and canada. abc news reporter nicole deantonio is live in washington, d.c. with more on the impact being felt across the country. nicole. >> well, amanda, good morning to you. >> and some grocery store owners say they feel paralyzed by these last minute changes that impact their bottom line. this morning, another reversal from president trump putting a pause on many of the tariffs he imposed on mexico and canada, granting a temporary exemption for goods covered by the north american trade agreement until april 2nd. the uncertainty sent stocks tumbling and is causing chaos and confusion for many business

owners across the country. >> we look at tariffs clearly. you need to start thinking about, okay, prices going up just at a time when people want prices going down, it does lead to uncertainty. >> earlier this week, the administration had announced 25% tariffs on goods for mexico and canada, as well as 10% tariffs on imports from china, which now makes it 20%. aida wilson owns a grocery store in ohio and imports produce from mexico. >> we have to provide fresh every day. prices change every day and it's going up. so we're trying to not to raise our prices, but it's affecting the business. >> economists caution the tariffs will be paid for by american businesses, which gets passed on to consumers via price hikes. >> you can see 10 to $15,000 added on to the framing cost of a house easily, because there's so many different items that we do buy from canada. >> trump making it clear this is only a short term pause after he

granted a one month pause to the big three american automakers who complain the tariffs would devastate the industry. the president, acknowledging that these tariffs could temporarily cause prices to rise. >> there will always be a little short term interruption. >> now, despite the temporary pause. canada's tariffs back on u.s. goods will remain in place. and starting on monday, we know the premier of ontario plans to implement a 25% tariff on electricity. the states, including michigan, new york and also minnesota. so, amanda, we will continue to follow this very closely. >> that's nicole deantonio live from washington. and sorry about those audio issues. a possible second measles death has been reported in the united states. a new mexico resident tested positive for the virus following their death. the new mexico department of health said the adult individual was unvaccin, and the official cause of death is still under investigation. the first measles death this year was reported in an unvaccinated school age child

linked to an outbreak in western texas. san francisco is launching a campaign to tackle outdoor drug markets. over the past week, at least 90 people have been arrested in two raids in the city. charges have been filed against 11 of those people already, and the da is reviewing other citations that were issued at a public safety meeting in the marina district last night. district attorney brooke jenkins doubled down on the effort to curb crime. >> will you keep going after people in parks who are doing drugs or dealing drugs? >> absolutely. our job is not only to enforce the laws, to disrupt the behavior. and so we have to make sure that no matter where they are congregating, that we are staying on them. >> police say they will continue to conduct operations across the city when it's appropriate. >> a santa rosa high school principal is on paid administrative leave a week after an on campus stabbing. the press democrat reports elsie allen high school principal gabe alvera has not returned to campus since the incident on

february 25th. a classroom fight ended with 115 year old boy stabbing another multiple times. the student was taken to the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery. the victim's father has criticized the principal because he says he was not contacted by high school administrators about the attack. >> today, the alameda county board of supervisors will continue negotiating the sale of the oakland coliseum. this comes after they came back from a closed session yesterday with no deal. supervisor nate miley assured investors they want this deal to be done. the county negotiating team says two documents need attention, including one dismissing a lawsuit filed by an environmental group, which has since been resolved. the group buying the coliseum remains optimistic. >> we're too far. i mean, we've waited five years. why would somebody i mean, you know, we feel good about the commitment. and i appreciate supervisor miley speaking directly to investors. and you know, so that's important because the delay you know those kind of

delays are tough. >> the board will hold another session to vote tuesday. >> in the east bay. this morning an event that has a lot of people talking. costco is about to open its newest store in the bay area, and this one is in brentwood, close to highway four. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live outside the store this morning. and lena, people are already there, hoping to be some of the first inside. >> yep, that's right, and happy costco grand opening day to all who celebrate. and we have learned that some people did sleep here overnight to get their hands on some rare designer items. and if you take a look right here behind me, you'll see some other folks. some people were told to move off off the property to a line across the street. this line that we're seeing right over here is the line of folks waiting for all the regular items. the folks across the street off the property are apparently those waiting for some of those rare limited edition designer items. now, we also saw quite a few people lined up waiting for it to open

last night, right around 630. those folks were also told to move across the street. this is the third bay area costco to open since october 1st. it was napa, then pleasanton in november, and now it is finally brentwood's turn. right now, this is the largest costco warehouse in the state, though there are plans to build one with a larger footprint later on in fresno. as we've reported, these grand openings typically bring in some rare designer products that you wouldn't normally be able to find at costco. we asked one man from oakley what brought him out so early. >> they had like louis vuitton purses. i heard that they had some rare shoes and definitely some rare bottles of bourbon. i think that's what most of the guys that were waiting in front of the line were for. i was just hoping to get a carton of eggs. that's what i was hoping to get. >> very relatable. now, this is something that is already prompting traffic warnings. the antioch police department is advising drivers in the area to expect delays and plan for a

have temperatures in the upper 50s to the upper 60s, but just be aware it is quite cold. this morning we have frost advisories in effect. so looking at the daytime highs we're going into the 60s. lots of sunshine in the city today. mild in oakland, drier today in the south bay. yesterday the south bay saw all of the showers. it is also warmer today at 65 in walnut creek, looking sunny and mild at 65 degrees as well. three day forecast. you notice a lot of sunshine on this graphic tomorrow and sunday. it is mild. we have temperatures very spring like and on sunday those clocks go forward one hour as daylight saving time does begin at 2 a.m. sunday morning. just a good reminder this time of year. change those batteries in the smoke detector and the carbon monoxide detector. give them a fresh pair. we do have rain in the forecast next week. we'll talk about that on the seven day in a few minutes guys. >> drew thank you. vta workers planning to go on strike. what you need to know for next week's commute. if you use service provided by that agency. plus addressing a staffing emergency. how the city of vallejo plans to

the sheriff's office to help the police force. the department is dealing with a staffing emergency and currently has 78 officers, which is well short of the 137 that are budgeted. the sheriff's office is offering to

provide 17 people at a total cost of just over $11 million. a lot needs to be worked out, including how the city is going to pay for this. vallejo's police chief says the deal would make a huge difference in responding to calls. >> so my hope is that if and when we get sheriff assistance, that we would be able to cut response times in half. we'd be able to be more responsive towards the call volume that we currently have. >> vallejo city council decided to move forward and needs to figure out that funding and answer a few other questions. the plan is to have everything together no later than march 25th. tonight, this grammy and emmy award winning artist is performing at chase center in san francisco. >> maybe we've been too strong for too long. and i can't be without you, baby. >> she's been too strong for too long mary j. blige making a stop in san francisco for her for my fans tour. the tour celebrates her latest album, gratitude, and all the people who made it possible. ne-yo and mario will

breezy though from time to time. winds out of the northwest at about 10 to 15mph this evening for any friday night plans, we start out really comfortable. temperatures at 5:00 pm are mainly in the 60s, but watch how fast we do. cool off over about a three hour period by 8 p.m. already into the 40s under clear skies, so it does get chilly tonight. another frosty night is on the way. overnight lows mid 30s to the mid 40s under mainly clear skies tomorrow. fantastic future weather showing you sunny and 60s will keep that going here on sunday. so a nice stretch of weather through the weekend. but next week rain is back in the forecast. one adjustment to the forecast. we did have rain on monday. it looks like the current path of that low is more to the south, so this is trending drier on monday but wednesday there you can see that atmospheric river connection tapping into some tropical moisture to our south. that would bring us some heavy rain, some gusty winds and some heavy snow in the sierra on wednesday. here's the accuweather seven day forecast.

eurostar canceled all high speed train service connecting park to london and brussels after a world war two era bomb was discovered on the tracks in paris. passengers were told to find other accommodations, including looking up flights. the hub typically sees 700,000 travelers per day, making it the busiest rail hub in both france and europe. new details about the deadly crash of a medical transport plane in philadelphia. the crash in january killed seven people, six in the plane and one on the ground. investigators won't get any information from the cockpit voice recorder. a preliminary

report by the ntsb says the recorder likely wasn't working for years. both pilots were experienced. the pilot had 9200 total hours of flight experience. the copilot had 2600 total flight hours. 1500 hours is the minimum required to get an airline transport pilot certificate. in the u.s. p-g-and-e's is using ai to predict where and when storms will be most severe. the utility says the system uses a mix of real time and historical weather forecasts. it allows p-g-and-e's to work ahead of storms and position crews to minimize outages and mitigate wildfire risk. >> 1400 of our almost 1600 weather stations that we have across the service territory. and so we're able to see over a five day period what the wind speeds are doing and that those are those forecasts are enhanced with the machine learning. >> a p-g-and-e's spokesperson confirmed the model is being used for next week's storm.

>> we really do. i mean it's been such a cool week. now we finally see warmer temperatures this afternoon, but it is chilly this morning. it's a frosty morning with frost advisories posted for areas in the 30s. we're talking danville, walnut creek, napa, santa rosa. temperatures right now. it is cold in the mid 30s around the bay shoreline. we're starting under clear skies and temperatures in the low and mid 40s. so here's a look at the frost advisory for areas in blue. this is where those temperatures are starting out in the 30s. and it will stay chilly until about 9 a.m. after 9 a.m. we start to see these temperatures warm up nicely, so let's take a look at that hour by hour forecast. by noon. we're starting to see some low 60s on the board, full sunshine. and later today, temperatures are finally back to average, which will feel warm because much of this week has been so cool, below average for this time of year that these numbers will feel pleasant this evening, though, temperatures do cool off rapidly. so friday night plans. you want the jacket with you? we're already dipping into the 40s by about 8 p.m. so today,

full sunshine out there. a frosty start, but the payoff is a nice mild afternoon. your sunset today at 610. let's check in with gloria and see those drive times this morning. >> good morning. looking pretty good out there on the roads today. of course we have lighter traffic on this friday from tracy to dublin. you're looking at about 39 minutes from san rafael to san francisco, 16 minutes. antioch to concord. looking at 18 minutes right now and we're getting a live look at our bay bridge toll plaza camera. the metering lights came on about 540 this morning and traffic is backed up to the maze, but you won't have any delays across the span into the city from highway four to san francisco. 52 minutes and let's get a live look at the east bay right now. walnut creek. you can see the traffic is flowing very nicely there. you'll have nothing in your way as you drive from highway 2:04 42 towards highway 24. and now at the live desk, we're going to give you an update. right now we have the latest information for you. if you use vta busses or the light rail service, you're going to want a backup plan for commuting next week. bus drivers and train

operators in silicon valley are set to go on strike starting this coming monday. the contract expired on monday. there hasn't been any progress on those negotiations. the union is asking for bigger pay increases and changes to their conflict resolution policies. workers will strike on or after 12:01 a.m. the union represents 1500 vta workers, including operators and staff. also, customer service workers. the vta has offered a total of 9% wage increase over a three year period. it would make operators the second highest paid in the bay area and fifth in the nation. vta representatives released a statement yesterday, and they say we value our employees and have made a fair and reasonable offer. our appreciation extends to the riders we serve. while vta has tried to reach an agreement through conversations as late as this afternoon, there has been no progress. we need the union to return to the bargaining table. vta paratransit will

operate as normal on monday, and updates on the strike and the transit services will be available on the vta website, so check out the website. if you take vta. reggie. >> gloria. thank you. breaking economic news. the labor department released a monthly jobs report this morning. the labor market added 151,000 new jobs last month. that is fewer jobs than originally expected, but it is more than what we saw in january. the unemployment rate ticked up just slightly to 4.1%. analysts believe we won't see impacts from the trump administration's recent mass firings in the federal government until later in the spring. >> president trump has signed an executive order establishing a strategic bitcoin reserve and a post on social media. the trump administration said, quote, the reserve will be capitalized with bitcoin owned by the federal government that was forfeited as part of criminal or civil asset forfeiture proceedings. this means it will not cost taxpayers a dime, end quote. the order

also comes as the white house is set to host the first ever crypto summit today. >> we're now less than 90 minutes away from the bay area's newest costco opening its doors. this one is located in brentwood, just off highway four, not far from the sand creek road exit. people are already lining up to get their hands on some exclusive items. abc seven news reporter lena howland has been watching this as excitement has been building across contra costa county. lena. >> hey, reggie, good morning to you. the hype is so real for this store that we've learned many people actually slept here overnight to get their hands on some rare limited items like bottles of bourbon. now, the costco team tells me those folks were actually sent off the property to another site right across the street from us. but they have said that line has since been moved right here behind us, up against the store. we're seeing a second line of people on the other side of these cars. that line is for all other items in the store. this

is how cold it is. we have frost advisories out there right now. we're in the 30s and 40s until about 9 a.m. that is when the advisory is over. we'll warm into the 50s after that and into the low 60s close to lunchtime. so this afternoon it's full sunshine. the warming trend gets underway. here we have sunny skies, upper 50s, upper 60s. that is exactly where we should be this time of the year. little breezy winds out of the northwest at about 10 to 15mph this evening. friday night we start out really comfortable. temperatures in the low 60s around 5 p.m, but look how fast we cool off. we drop nearly 15 degrees by about 8 p.m. we're already in the 40s, so it does get pretty chilly pretty quickly this evening, but we will have clear skies overnight tonight. we do anticipate another frosty night, mainly clear skies, mid 30s to the mid 40s heading into saturday. now look at saturday. really beautiful. a little bit warmer than today. temperatures into the mid and upper 60s for a lot of us. a similar story on sunday. you can see some areas kind of flirting with 70 degrees, so it will feel quite

a very positively reinforcing substance, right? so if you can replace that reinforcement with a positive reinforcement that is healthy, then people are able to utilize that to be able to let go of the substance. >> so far, 94 people have taken part in marin county's program. it is one of several counties around the state participating in the pilot program, which is run through medi-cal. san francisco is making progress installing speed cameras around the city. 11 are now up at various intersections, with 22 more to go. and once all 33 cameras are up, sfmta will turn them on, which is expected to happen later this month. warnings will be issued for the first 60 days after that. drivers will be cited if they go 11mph over the speed limit. gusty winds, strong currents and low tides are not stopping a married couple from trying to pull off a kayaking adventure across the bay area. today is day two of their 225 mile trek around the san francisco bay.
