parts of the bay, some breezy winds at times mid 60s for most, a few upper 60s and the coast will be cool and breezy with the upper 50s, so we will enjoy a few more dry spring like days before some heavy rain arrives on wednesday, a level two system, and then more rain after that to decipher for you. stephanie. >> all right, lisa, thank you. we're following new developments in a deadly police shooting in martinez that happened in 2023. three police officers have been fired after new evidence released by the martinez police department shows potential misconduct. here's abc seven news reporter anser hassan. >> who's going westbound for the. >> newly released video shows possible police misconduct and a fatal officer involved shooting that left one man dead, such as this scene. as the two men tried to drive away. >> officers fired into the car as the cars. as the car was driving away from the police officers and was not posing a

danger to anyone. >> adante pointer is a lawyer for the wilson family. in august of 2023, tahman and tommy wilson were shot at by martinez police, who were responding to a burglary at a cannabis dispensary. tahman died on scene. >> one officer, you know, came to the scene and was abusing these gunshot victims despite the fact that they were handcuffed, despite the fact they were compliant, despite the fact they were in need of medical aid and treatment and care, and officers decided to exact what i call street justice. >> newly released documents by the police department described how officer johnny aroney kneed tommy several times in the head, while he was already handcuffed, and how the three responding officers tried to hide a knife that one of the officers was illegally carrying. all three officers were fired. two were in their probationary period. >> not only should they be fired, they should be walking into a criminal courtroom dealing with criminal charges and prosecution.

>> in a statement, martinez mayor brian zorn thanked the police chief and city manager for, quote, conducting the administrative investigations in a fair and effective manner and taking immediate action where required. martinez police chief andrew white referred to the officer's behavior as disappointing, adding, quote, as a department, we are committed to maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct. >> that type of gratuitous force cannot be tolerated, and the chief did the right thing by holding those officers accountable. >> the investigation into the officer's use of deadly force is still ongoing in martinez anser hassan abc seven news. >> we're also following developing news from san francisco's outer sunset neighborhood. an armed man was taken to the hospital after being shot by police. officers were called to a home on 41st avenue between lincoln and irving. a man with a gun there was reported to be threatening his neighbors. police say the man opened fire and a responding officer fired back. the man's injuries are described as non

life threatening. no officers were hurt and police say there was no further threat to the public. well, if you live in the south bay, your commute could be disrupted tomorrow morning. vta workers are planning to go on strike. negotiations have broken down between management and the union, representing about 1500 public transit operators, maintenance staff and customer service workers. vta is offering a 9% wage increase over three years with no service cuts. the union wants to double that. >> with a wage increase at this level, or anything close to it would be service cuts throughout our system and the likely elimination of positions across vta. this is not a direction that we are willing to go. >> if a strike happens tomorrow, there will be no bus service or light rail service in santa clara county. vta paratransit will not be impacted. the owners of a longtime business in the south bay are asking for help

after a recent burglary. take a look. they sent us these photos of the damage left behind after a break-in this week at their store. san jose camera and video gates, doors and windows were all destroyed when a vehicle drove through the front door. an employee who did not want to go on camera told us burglaries at the store are not new and they are getting to be more brazen. >> we've had great gains. we've actually had people break into the back. we've have a taken a lot of steps into keeping it secured so they can't break into the back anymore. but now they've gone through the front. >> the owners say new and used camera gear was stolen. they say insurance will cover some of the costs, but it won't replace everything. a meeting was held in the south bay to discuss the fate of san jose's saratoga avenue. community members packed a town hall session to discuss controversial changes to reduce the number of crashes included in the proposal. cutting back on

the number of driving lanes. a new protected bike lane and pedestrian safety improvements. the corridor underwent a major transformation as part of san jose's vision zero initiative to improve the roads, but the changes have received some mixed reviews. >> i'm also a bicyclist. i'm also a pedestrian. roads are for people, is not for cars. >> there's no safety, no health issue. let the competent people to do the job. >> this is not about safety. this is about a money grab. the state gave san jose $10 million for vision zero, and they're in a use it or lose it attitude. >> the comments from the town hall will be used by san jose's transportation department to determine if any changes need to be made. well, there was a brief scare over at chase center during the warriors game last night. the fire alarm went off at the end of the first quarter.

>> because we got a new story, because these guys have been working. >> you just saw that message posted on the scoreboard asking people to leave their seats, and some of the fans started filing out. a few minutes later, it was announced it was a false alarm and people made their way back to their seats. well, president trump is threatening steep reciprocal tariffs on canadian lumber and dairy products, those possible tariffs rattling the u.s. economy and consumers who are already facing a looming threat of a possible government shutdown. here's abc news reporter johny fernandez with the latest. >> u.s. businesses are bracing for the latest tariff threat from the white house. president trump vowing to impose new tariffs on canadian lumber and dairy in response to the large tax canada puts on american dairy and lumber to protect its own industries. this comes after the president imposed 25% tariffs on all goods from canada and mexico that went into effect

on march 4th. the president then changed direction, offering a one month exemption for auto makers on wednesday, followed by a one month delay on tariffs for other goods from mexico and canada on thursday. but the president saying the uncertainty is here to stay. >> there will always be some modifications. i mean, if you have a wall in front of you, sometimes you have to go around the wall instead of through it. >> house gop leaders unveiling their stopgap funding bill on saturday that will fund the government through the end of september. but it will be a challenge to get the bill through both chambers before the march 14th deadline. top house democrats issuing a statement saturday evening saying that they will vote against speaker johnson's short term government funding bill, calling the measure partizan and reckless johny fernandez, abc news, new york. >> developing news now more than 1000 people have been killed over the past two days after violence erupted in syria. according to the syrian observatory for human rights,

carmax dealership in inglewood. take a look. in a customer rammed through the front doors of this showroom, hitting at least eight people. two of those people suffered critical injuries. the driver kept driving while inside the showroom, running over chairs and desks. the chaos happened after the customer was getting his car appraised. the driver was later arrested by police. soaring egg prices have prompted

the department of justice to launch an investigation. antitrust enforcers are apparently trying to determine if large egg producers conspired to limit the egg supply and then raise prices. all of this as a bird flu outbreak has wiped out millions of hens, resulting in a nationwide egg shortage. abc news reporter alexis christoforous has more. >> the u.s. justice department is in the early stages of investigating the country's largest egg producers for what some are alleging is a, quote, coordinated effort to restrict supply and inflate prices. the egg industry says the worst bird flu outbreak in u.s. history has forced them to cull tens of millions of hens, leading to consumers paying an egg surcharge at chains like waffle house and denny's and empty store shelves across the country. prices have nearly doubled in the past year, averaging about $5. a dozen eggs now cost nearly as much as a pound of ground beef, and the usda predicts egg prices could

increase another 40% this year. at small businesses like new york city, square diner owner theodore cruz is trying to hold off on raising prices. >> if things hold up at this price, i'll pay $70,000 more for eggs than i did last year. i can't just absorb that hit for the next nine months. >> while consumers and businesses shell out more for eggs. profits are soaring at the nation's largest egg producer and distributor. profits at cal-maine surged 342% last quarter compared to a year ago. in a statement to abc news, the president of the american egg board saying to suggest that higher egg prices are the result of anything other than bird flu is a misreading of the facts and the reality. in 2023, a jury trial ordered cal-maine and three other companies to pay $53 million for unlawfully inflating prices. a verdict the companies are challenging cal-maine has not returned abc news request for comment. but the looming threat of tariffs on goods from

mexico and canada have consumers bracing for more food inflation target already, saying it will have to raise produce prices. walmart warning of a sales slowdown and costco saying consumers are increasingly opting for cheaper alternatives like private label store brands over name brands. experts warn that egg prices could stay high even if the supply of eggs rebounds. as grocers and restaurants try to reclaim their lost profits. alexis christoforous, abc news, new york. >> well, a former child actor is launching his second act as a budding chef. hudson yang's new show, crash course cuisine, premieres this weekend on nat geo. >> cooking with this. touch it. no, don't touch it. don't step back. >> yang previously starred on abc's fresh off the boat, and when the show ended, yang thought about what he wanted to do next. so he enrolled in harvard, but also realized he'd always loved food, cooking and

traveling. so this first season of crash course cuisine has yang combining all of his interests in houston, new orleans and singapore. he learns from master chefs and does his best to keep up. >> when i look at cooking shows, it seems like everything's always perfect. every dish is always the best. as soon as they make it and i realized that's not what cooking is. when i learned how to cook, i made a mistake every five seconds. and i think watching that can kind of make it, like, seem, you know, scary. and i wanted to create a show where, you know, you can watch me mess up and make mistakes. and, and i do a lot. >> same here. hudson. it's also neat that yang is the executive producer of this show. crash course cuisine debuts tonight on nat geo at 10 p.m. disney, of course, is the parent company of both nat geo and abc seven. well, turning our attention to the forecast. now let's check in with lisa. and what a beautiful day it was yesterday. and we have more to come before the rain. >> yes that's right. we're going

to see a big pattern change by the middle of the week. but between now and then a high pressure will be protecting us. there is a system that will sink to the south of us and head into southern california as soon as tomorrow. but overall, we have got a quiet start to the workweek. and as we start out this morning, you'll notice that we see a return to some 30s. it is 38, in danville with 36 in sonoma, 39 napa, 41 in hayward and palo alto. and as we look outside, dark until ten well before seven 3729 as the sunrise will be beginning to get some light out there before then, for sure. but today, with the sunshine and high clouds, another nice seasonal day with a dominant ridge of high pressure for the next several days. although we get into more cloud cover on monday and then that level two system arrives on wednesday with subsequent rain and rainy events as we get into the weekend. could be a bigger storm by the end of next weekend, but as we look at our

winds, it gets breezy today out of the south over 20 miles an hour, maybe 2527 up through san francisco and back along the shoreline there are the high clouds and then into sunday evening. it's a nice night out there. partly cloudy, more mid level clouds arrive on monday and then into tuesday. some low clouds and fog set up along the coast and we'll get back into more sunshine. and that system is queuing up offshore on wednesday. and so late tuesday into wednesday, that's when we'll see the rain arrive. so that weak system bringing rain to san diego, parts of los angeles and then a deepening upper level low with a subtropical fetch bringing not only some steady rain, but actually it's a cold system. so that's the good news. we'll see plenty of mountain snow. and in fact, with the winds gusting wednesday into thursday, could even see a possible thunderstorm locally on thursday. and then more rain follows this on

friday. looks like saturday. leftover showers and then a more intense system could be developing next sunday with more snow. so we'll add up the next seven days. and still sticking with that inch to an inch and a half from here throughout the south bay and east bay. and it's been solid rain for days in the pacific northwest, but snow totals keep going up. that's some good news, isn't it? 3 to 5ft easily and then below 3000ft we could see a couple of feet as well. 1 to 2. so we'll look at high surf in addition. so things really changing as we get to late tuesday into monday into wednesday 62 san francisco. partly cloudy out there. some breezy winds at times 66 in vallejo with the upper 60s in san jose and the accuweather seven day forecast. we've got a dry start to the workweek, a little bit cooler into tuesday, and then our level two system on wednesday. thursday we've got a

reach sufficient staffing. well, tonight, a brand new season of american idol officially gets underway, and we know at least one of the people auditioning for the show is here from the bay area. it's the 23rd season for the competition show, but the first time fans will see a beloved idol taking a seat on the judges panel. entertainment reporter joel gargulio got a chance to catch up with them and hear more about this brand new season. >> this is the stage where singers become superstars, and this is american idol. >> the search for the next singing sensation has begun with american idol's brand new season, and the judges swung through the tri state, making a trip to the big apple for auditions. >> come on, bada bing, whatever it is. >> well. >> come on, is that. is that new york? >> yeah, yeah, new york. >> new york. >> and that's where we found host ryan seacrest, judges luke bryan and lionel richie and

>> and that american idol premiere is at 8 p.m. tonight, right here on abc seven. you can also stream it on hulu. well, from idol tryouts to the oakland ballers, the team held open tryouts at raymond park in oakland this weekend. around 50 players were vying for an invitation to spring training, but they weren't the only ones. interim mayor kevin jenkins joined council members rihanna, brown and ken houston in taking some swings in the cage. and maybe unsurprisingly, they will not be suiting up for the team. >> things went wonderful, coach said. i made the team not because of my talent, but what i can do for them. maybe extra calls from the umpires and everything. but no. it was a wonderful time out. >> having the ballers being rooted here in the community, that's what matters. and so what we're doing is helping to bring oakland really together. and this is this is a great this is a great thing for the city. >> we're giving spirit to the city of oakland. right. we're back. we're back. the a's are gone. but the ballers are here. >> got to love that energy.

some south winds throughout the day today and in the south bay. we'll see the warmest numbers in the upper 60s. and then back to that cool night. another dry day on tap for monday. stephanie. >> all right. lisa. thank you. >> hayward police are investigating a fatal three vehicle collision that killed a 20 year old woman. police say it happened near the intersection of hayward boulevard and civic avenue right around 930 last night. at least three other people were injured and were taken to a nearby hospital. they are expected to survive. investigators are now looking into whether alcohol was a factor in this crash. police say it's the third fatal collision this year. uc berkeley is one of ten schools that could lose federal funds due to claims of anti-semitism. according to the chronicle, the department of justice created a list of schools that face cuts in federal funding, and the trump administration alleges these institutions created a hostile environment for jewish students and faculty. this comes after

federal law enforcement announced an investigation of uc berkeley and four other universities just last month. ucla and the university of southern california are also included on that list. women across the bay area took to the streets for international women's day, calling for equal rights and justice. activists say the annual day of action is more important than ever, fearing the current political landscape could reverse the rights many have fought for. here's abc seven news reporter cornell barnard. >> we're not going back. we're not going back. we're not going back. >> women on the move in san francisco. a march near union square celebrating solidarity on this international women's day. >> we are always stronger together. just look at all of you. >> for many, this annual global event is a call to action with women's rights under attack. >> our reproductive rights have been taken away. we're. thank god i live in san francisco and

that so negatively affect the women in our country and also internationally. >> many say in this changing world, speaking out has never been more important. >> you know, women need to get back into speaking up, supporting the freedom that we've enjoyed for most of our lifetime. i think that's my message. we got to stand up. >> we are not going back. we are not going back. >> cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> $25,000 severance packages are being offered to some employees to voluntarily leave the federal workforce. it's part of president trump's efforts to shrink the size of the federal government. bloomberg reports workers at the department of health and human services got emails from the department of government efficiency offering those buyouts on friday. workers in the department of education and social security administration have also received similar notices. the workers are being told they have until next friday to make their decision. meanwhile, the

president is also attempting to limit student loan forgiveness. he signed an executive order friday night seeking to modify a loan relief program for americans in the public service sector. his order targets workers of nonprofit groups in fields at odds with his political agenda, including immigration. congress would have to approve any changes student loan borrowers and advocates are promising to take legal action. coming up on this week, the economic fallout over the president's tariff threats from high prices at the grocery store to uncertainty with jobs, it's the issues on the minds of many americans. but will prices continue to soar? the white house national economic council director will break it all down with george stephanopoulos this morning. you can watch that full interview on this week at 8:00 right here on abc seven. in the east bay, the bart station in pittsburg will be closed all weekend. crews are installing

new fare gates at the station. they're supposed to cut down on fare evasion and improve safety. trains will run through pittsburg center without making stops at that station. also, trains will from antioch will depart earlier and arrive later than their published departure times. that's to accommodate work on the pittsburg center platforms. p-g-and-e's is using ai to predict where and when storms will be most severe. the utility company says the system uses a mix of real time and historical weather forecasts. it allows p-g-and-e's to work ahead of storms and position crews to minimize outages and mitigate wildfire risk. >> 1400 of our almost 1600 weather stations that we have across the service territory, and so we're able to see over a five day period what the wind speeds are doing and that those are those forecasts are enhanced with the machine learning. >> a p-g-and-e's spokesperson confirmed the model is being used for this week's upcoming

town council are considering joining the fight over a proposed new casino in the north bay. the press democrat reports both bodies are considering challenging construction of the casino and hotel proposed by the koi nation tribe. koi nation says the casino would reestablish its tribal land base in sonoma county. several other tribes, though, are fighting the plan as well. some windsor residents have concerns over

traffic and environmental impacts of this new casino. meanwhile, hundreds of robotics students are showing off their creations this weekend at uc berkeley. the university's college of engineering is hosting the one world vex robotics showcase. it's what organizers call competitive robotics, a chance for grade school students to show what their customized bots can do. the event is put on by the robot labs foundation, an organization that teaches k through 12 students across the bay area. robotics and stem san jose is gearing up to host this year's nvidia conference. 25,000 people are expected to be in town for this tech conference. it takes place monday, march 17th through friday, march 21st. city officials say this will be a chance to activate san jose's downtown area and bring in some big economic gains for small businesses. last year's geo tech conference brought in $15.5 million in economic impact. the

things to know this morning. number one, vta workers are planning to go on strike tomorrow. negotiations have broken down between management and the union, representing 1500 public transit operators, maintenance staff and customer service workers. number two, police shot an armed man who was threatening neighbors in san francisco. police say the man opened fire and officers fired back. he's now in the hospital and expected to survive. number three new developments with a deadly police shooting in martinez that happened in 2023. three police officers have been fired after newly released evidence shows potential misconduct. and number four, the bart station in pittsburg will be closed all weekend. crews are installing new fare gates at the station. they're supposed to cut down on fare evasion and improve safety. >> number five. that sun comes
