2023. good morning, everybody. it's march 9th. a sleepy sunday as our clocks sprung forward. >> a little bit. took us a while to wake up, i think, but we have that 711 sunset to look forward to. the sun was up later at 729 and we have a ridge of high pressure, our dominant weather feature that's going to keep us dry for the next several days before some big changes head our way. there's a little bit of fog here from our sutro tower camera. it is 48 downtown, 43 in hayward. still that 39 in redwood city. and a beautiful view from pier 39 where you can see those upper 30s hanging on in the north bay from santa rosa to petaluma. and we are cooler there by about two degrees. so as we get through the next few hours, the temperatures are going to respond to all that sun near 60 by 1130 or so. but by 3:00 mid and upper 60s, a few high clouds, a bit of a breeze along the shoreline. so staying in the 50s, half moon bay and pacifica. and we'll talk about a bit more cloud cover to start the workweek. but level two system, level one system

many to iron out for you coming up. stephanie. >> all right, lisa, thank you. we're following new developments in a deadly police shooting in martinez that happened in 2023. three police officers have been fired after new evidence released by the martinez police department shows potential misconduct. here's abc seven news reporter anser hassan. >> who's going westbound for the. >> newly released video shows possible police misconduct and a fatal officer involved shooting that left one man dead, such as this scene. as the two men tried to drive away. >> officers fired into the car as the cars. as the car was driving away from the police officers and was not posing a danger to anyone. >> adante pointer is a lawyer for the wilson family. in august of 2023, tahman and tommy wilson were shot at by martinez police, who were responding to a burglary at a cannabis dispensary. tahman died on scene. >> one officer, you know, came to the scene and was abusing

these gunshot victims despite the fact that they were handcuffed, despite the fact they were compliant, despite the fact they were in need of medical aid and treatment and care, an officer decided to exact what i call street justice. >> newly released documents by the police department described how officer johnny aroni need tommy several times in the head, while he was already handcuffed, and how the three responding officers tried to hide a knife that one of the officers was illegally carrying. all three officers were fired. two were in their probationary period. >> not only should they be fired, they should be walking into a criminal courtroom dealing with criminal charges and prosecution. >> in a statement, martinez mayor brian zorn thanked the police chief and city manager for, quote, conducting the administrative investigations in a fair and effective manner and taking immediate action where required. martinez police chief andrew white referred to the officer's behavior as disappointing, adding, quote, as the department, we are committed

to maintaining the highest standards of professional conduct. >> that type of gratuitous force cannot be tolerated, and the chief did the right thing by holding those officers accountable. >> the investigation into the officer's use of deadly force is still ongoing in martinez anser hassan abc seven news. >> developing news from san francisco's outer sunset neighborhood. an armed man was taken to the hospital after being shot by police. officers were called to a home on 41st avenue between lincoln and irving. a man with a gun there was reported to be threatening his neighbors. police say the man opened fire and a responding officer fired back. the man's injuries are being described as non life threatening. no officers were hurt and police say there was no further threat to the public. well, if you live in the south bay your commute could be disrupted tomorrow morning. vta workers are planning to go on strike. negotiations have broken down between management and the union, representing 1500 public

transit operators, maintenance staff and customer service workers. vta is offering a 9% wage increase over three years with no service cuts. the union wants to double that. >> with a wage increase at this level, or anything close to it would be service cuts throughout our system and the likely elimination of positions across vta. this is not a direction that we are willing to go. >> if a strike happens tomorrow, there will be no bus service or light rail service in santa clara county, but vta paratransit will not be impacted. the owners of a longtime business in the south bay are asking for help after a recent burglary. take a look. they sent us these photos of the damage left behind after a break-in this week at their store. san jose camera and video gates, doors and windows were all destroyed when a vehicle drove through the front door. an employee who did not want to go on camera told us these

burglaries at the store are not new and they are getting to be more brazen. >> we've had break-ins. we've actually had people break into the back. we've have a taken a lot of steps into keeping it secured so they can't break into the back anymore. but now they've gone through the front. >> of the owners, say new and used camera gear was stolen. they say insurance will cover some of the costs, but it won't replace everything. meanwhile, a meeting was held in the south bay to discuss the fate of san jose's saratoga avenue. community members packed a town hall session to discuss controversial changes to reduce the number of crashes included in the proposals, cutting back on the number of driving lanes. a new protected bike lane and pedestrian safety improvements. the corridor underwent a major transformation as part of san jose's vision zero initiative to improve road safety, but the changes have mixed reviews.

>> i'm also a bicyclist. i'm also a pedestrian. roads are for people, is not for cars. >> there's no safety, no health issue. let the competent people to do the job. >> this is not about safety. this is about a money grab. the state gave san jose $10 million for vision zero, and they're in a use it or lose it attitude. >> the comments from the town hall will be used by san jose's transportation department to determine if any changes need to be made. well, there is a brief scare over at chase center during the warriors game last night. the fire alarm went off at the end of the first quarter. >> i guess we got a new story because these guys went to work. >> you just saw that message posted on the scoreboard asking people to leave their seats. there it is. and some of the fans, as you just saw, started filing out. a few minutes later, it was announced it was a false

alarm and people made their way back to their seats. we're following developing news this morning as we take a live look at the white house. the secret service says they shot an armed man near the building today. the agency says it was contacted by police, who alerted them to a possibly suicidal man traveling from indiana to washington, dc. officers found his parked car near the executive mansion and saw him walking nearby. they say when confronted, he waved a gun and they were forced to shoot him. the man is now being treated for his injuries and his condition is not known. president trump was not at the white house at the time of this shooting. the president is on and off again. tariff threats have sent the stock market tumbling in the last week. but in an interview today, he's downplaying the impact of his policy changes and now saying some tariffs may go up again next month. the uncertainty coming as the threat of a possible government shutdown looms. here's abc news reporter

johny fernandez. >> u.s. businesses are bracing for the latest tariff threat from the white house. president trump vowing to impose new tariffs on canadian lumber and dairy in response to the large tax canada puts on americanrge dairy and lumber to protect its own industries. this comes after the president imposed 25% tariffs on all goods from canada and mexico that went into effect on march 4th. the president then changed direction, offering a one month exemption for auto makers on wednesday, followed by a one month delay on tariffs for other goods from mexico and canada on thursday. but the president saying the uncertainty is here to stay. >> there will always be some modifications. i mean, if you have a wall in front of you, sometimes you have to go around the wall instead of through it. >> house gop leaders unveiling their stopgap funding bill on saturday that will fund the government through the end of september. but it will be a challenge to get the bill through both chambers before the march 14th deadline. top house democrats issuing a statement

saturday evening saying that they will vote against speaker johnson's short term government funding bill, calling the measure partizan and reckless. johny fernandez, abc news new york. >> to the vatican, now the pope remaining in the hospital as he continues his treatment for double pneumonia. the vatican now saying the pope continues to switch from his daily use of high flow ventilation to mechanical ventilation at night. the religious leader has been in the hospital for four weeks now. medical experts with abc news say there are several indicators that show improvement in his condition. however, doctors are also saying they're watching for more signs of progress. all right, let's get you outside and check in with lisa. good morning. >> good morning. it's been cold in our inland valleys, where we still have a few upper 30s here in the city. you can see0s here beautiful view of coit tower. upper 40s. and we're on our way to another nice afternoon in the 60s. a few high clouds, a bit of a breeze. so a typical march day

>> and a raid customer ran through the front doors of this showroom, hitting at least eight people. two of those people suffering critical injuries as the driver kept driving while inside that showroom. running over chairs and desks. the chaos happening after the customer was getting his car appraised. the driver was later arrested by police in the south bay, now san jose is gearing up to host this year's nvidia conference. 25,000 people are expected to be in town for the tech conference. it takes place monday, march 17th through friday, march 21st. city officials say this will be a chance to activate san jose's downtown area and bring in some big economic gains for small businesses. last year's geo tech conference brought in $15.5 million in economic impact. sonoma county supervisors and the windsor town council are considering joining the fight over a proposed new casino in the north bay. the press

democrat reports both bodies are considering challenging the construction of the casino and hotel proposed by the coy nation tribe. coy nation says the casino would reestablish its tribal land base here in sonoma county. several other tribes, though, are fighting this plan. some windsor residents have concerns over traffic and environmental impacts of this new casino. hundreds of robotic students are showing off their latest creations this weekend at uc berkeley. the university's college of engineering is hosting the one world vex robot mix showcase. it's what organizers call competitive robotics, a chance for grade school students to show what their customized bots can do. the event is put on by the robot labs foundation, an organization that teaches students across the bay area robotics and stem. great to see that. all right, turning to the forecast. now let's check in with lisa for another beautiful day in store. >> yes, it's right stephanie. maybe a couple degrees cooler.

we've got a little bit of wind coming our way, but our dominant weather feature is this ridge of high pressure that has been protecting us all of california , high and dry for the next several days before we see a much more active pattern getting started on tuesday. beautiful view 49 santa cruz right now, going for a high of about 60. it's 48 san francisco 47. in oakland with 40. in redwood city , we had that radiational cooling and many areas this morning a little colder along the north bay and the shoreline , you can see half moon bay recovering to 50 clear sky, the golden gate bridge and look at that. 38 petaluma, 39 santa rosa with low 40s. livermore 46 in concord and as we look out towards the shark tank, sunny today, some high clouds for parts of the north bay. the coastline, more cloud cover for monday, and then we'll get into overnight tuesday into wednesday. the rain level two system, a lot of wind, much, much colder. we're talking highs

in the mid 50s. and it looks like that trend of active weather and that rainy pattern continuing. so the first system moving into southern california misses us. and then by wednesday an atmospheric river is set up. we've got a couple of feet of snow coming in the sierra nevada. lots of wind, maybe a thunderstorm through thursday, a bit of a break, and then the timing on this brings in more rain. looks like a level one friday. and then by sunday this could set up for a stronger system. but way too far out to pinpoint looks like the weather becomes active and stays active. so still sticking with about an inch to an inch and a half region wide for the next seven days, 3 to 4ft of snow and some resorts and we'll see about two feet, around 5000ft lake levels. so highs today. enjoy it out there. partly cloudy at times in the afternoon in the north bay. mid 60s in napa, 66 santa rosa, upper 60s inland and the south bay. the accuweather seven day forecast. we are starting the workweek dry and a little milder
