a fire stretched authorities thin. tonight crews are on aheart for any flair ups. we're live in -- [indiscernible] >> reporter: on a hot dry day with was gusting to 25 miles per hour, it was a big reminder that peak fire season is almost upon us. >> several vehicles burned up there and just an old abandon's horse trailer. >> this resident looks at what might have been and feels lucky. he was tilling his yard when he heard shouting and saw flames coming. he jumped on his backhoe to build his neighbor a break. the fire burned to a door of a third neighbor, hot enough to melt a individual door. >> you can see it burn right up against their house and burn several of their buildings. they're very lucky they didn't

hayward. >> a known gang member is said to have been shot more than 40 times. kerry dawson was sitting in the driver seat of a ford fusion at about 1:15 when police say he was shot several times. he hospital where he died. they are still working on a suspect description. also in the city tonight, the search continues for a suspect wanted for an armed carjacking and for shooting at police. investigators say around 5:30 officers spotted a car matching the description of the vehicle that had been car jacketed. the car crashed and then the suspects got out and ran and fired at the officers. the officers fired back. one suspect remains at large.

the paramedics found a 41-year- old woman bleeding. medics tried to revive her, but the unidentified woman died there at the scene. police declined to say what propertied the fight or if there was a history of violence at this home. >> 41 people were charged with federal conspiracy and racketeering crimes in southern california. the arrest come after a 20 month sting operation targeting violent crimes along the u.s.- mexico border. authorities say the drug cartel had recently moved some of its operations to san diego where 27 people were arrested. others charged include current and former mexican law enforcement officials. >> this rico conspiracy involves both state and fed criminal violations, some of the worst on the books, murders, kidnappings,

despite this explosive distraction, organizers say the final day of the air show will continue on schedule. natalie allen, atlanta. in germany, a panic killed at least 18 people and injured 80 others at a music festival called the love parade. some victims were trampled and crushed while others fell from a barrier they were trying to climb over. investigators are trying the figure out what caused the panic panic. there's a ravaging measles outbreak. 88 people have died. hospitals in the capital are jammed with patients. the epidemic comes after a widespread flooding.
