a statewide man hunt ends at the u.s. mexico border. tonight the man who investigators say shot a veteran freemont police officer is in custody. good evening i'm ken wayne. >> and i'm heather holmes. he was armed with a gun and the suspected cop killer almost made it. andrew barrientos smiling as he's put into the back of a police cruiser in san diego. a man hunt has been in place

since yesterday. allie rasmus has been following the story. she joins us now with an update. >> reporter: investigators took a plane to san diego, they are there to investigate a man who they believe shot and killed an officer. tonight he is in custody. >> he has contacted several arteries, leading in and out of california. everyone was on alert for this guy. >> reporter: oakland police suspected barrientos would head to the u.s.-mexico border. this is video of barrientos mouthing the words i love you mom to the camera. police say he was armed with a nine millimeter during his arrest.

san diego police say one of their officers spotted a man fitting barrientos description in this thunder bird. >> the police sergeant pulled in behind it, stopped the vehicle. challenged the occupants, one of the occupants identified himself as being the suspect of the shooting in oakland. >> reporter: they say the second person was the person in charge of driving barrientos across the boarder. police also arrested a woman accused of aiding barrientos escape. barrientos had been on the run from the law since yesterday afternoon. he's accused of shooting and critically wounding officertodd young. officer young tried to arrest him at a home in bancroft in

authorities tonight are looking for a missing elderly man from diablo who drove off this afternoon during a family gathering. 84 albert marcoti disappeared tr his home. the family says marcoti was in an white infinity suv. they say he may be headed to san francisco. marcoti is 6'tall, 200 pounds with grey hair. the license plate is 4mvp860. he was last seen wearing short, a striped sweater with a black leather jacket. a fatal incident between a young man and a bus. the man was killed. a bus passenger says he saw the man jump in front of the bus as

the swollen river that has overflowed it's banks by miles has now reached the defenses in the southern city of fatal. about 75 miles east of farachi. aid organizations say 17 million pakistanis have been affected by the flooding and 8 million people are in immediate need of help. and in other news of the world tonight, in chile mine crews hauled in a heavy high tech drill today to try to free 33 miners trapped almost a half mile underground. the drilling got under way tonight and is expected to take at least three months. officials say another wider drill that is in rout could free the miners in half that time. the miners taped a video earlier this week in which they appeared to be in good shape and good spirits although many have lost weight.
