attacks. all the incidents targeted women who live in the park regency apartment complex just outside walnut creek. the parks office has investigated and has produced this sketch of a person of interest following an assault last weekend. ken wayne is live with more. >> reporter: this is the first night that many residents have had a chance to see this sketch, the hope is someone will recognize this face and contact police. >> it's absolutely a mission. it's not just for just our agency, for all the surrounding agencies as well. >> reporter: this sketch is based on the description of the man involved in an attempted sexual assault saturday night. the fifth attack in six months. fliers have been passed out to at least some units but there's frustration that management hasn't done more. >> we would like to see more security, at least not just standing over here but making

to blow up a car in time square was sentenced today to life in prison. shahzad told the jury told he felt no remorse about the bombing attempt. there are new details tonight about the suspect crashing a stolen van into a motorcycle police officer in freemont. this is the man police are looking for. police say he is not from the bay area but that he came here with a specific crime in mine. lloyd lacuesta live in freemont with more. >> reporter: we are learning more about this man, alexander diaz. he attempted to kill a police officer by running him over with a stolen delivery van. >> he's a pretty dangerous guy. we don't have information specifically that he's armed but obviously he's going to run over a police officer, you're

going to be a pretty good threat to the general public. >> reporter: police say diaz was in the bay area specifically to steal a delivery van and its contents. diaz is in the was in jail for theft. the van was full of flat screens. police say witnesses affirm the accounts. >> there was no doubt in their mind that he could have gone right or left but instead he went right at the officer, and accelerated at the officer right to the other curb line. >> reporter: an associate of diaz was taken off a bart train last night at the south howard train station. he was detained, questions and released. officer brower a ten year

veteran and married father of three sons had reconstructive surgery. >> he is highly medicated at this point. but he had a shattered left leg, compound fracture. police say there maybe others involved with diaz, accomplices that aided his arrest. right now the focus is to get him off the street. law enforcement agencies all the way to the mexican border have been alerted. tomorrow is a big day for california. the so called big five plan to release the details of their budget agreement. governor arnold schwarzenegger officer says it does not include any tax increases as he insisted. the next challenge will be getting the legislature to pass it, it needs a 2/three majority. the state has set a record for the longest ever delay in

firefighters called for extra help tonight while battling a fire on john street. since the top four was engulfed in flames, fire crews called in a second alarm. one firefighter and an individual were injured by the fire. it's remarkably common, hazing and bullying. one recent study found almost half of all high school students say they have been victimized. now there's a case in point right here in the bay area at martinez high school. officials at alhambra high have taken action against seven students accusing them of hazing a student there. rita williams has our report. >> reporter: the freshman football team at alhambra high practiced today without seven of their players.

five suspended for five days from school and suspended from the team for good. one facing expulsion. all this because of what school officials are calling a hazing incident with a 15-year-old teammate before practice last week in the locker room. >> there was taping of a students legs and a couple other students holding the victim down. a couple of players took some shots at him in the stomach and the arms. >> reporter: officials say cameras and a confiscated cell phone video one of the players planned to poston you tube show the incident lasted two minutes. that night the victim told his parents who reported it to the school and police. the superintendent says the boy's mother was -- >> upset not only about the event but after the event there were students that started texting her son saying, hey, be a good guy, don't get us in

trouble. don't say what happened. >> reporter: they cancelled last week's freshman game and are providing more supervision. >> i am a campus supervisor brought in between the hours of 3:00 and 6:00 this week to keep a handle on the locker room and make sure the kids are doing what they're supposed to be doing instead of bad things. >> reporter: next week a cyber bullying expert will be here. >> school is supposed to have a safe place and how is it supposed to be safe when this is happening. >> reporter: alan hernz is a former graduate here. >> there's other ways to include someone in the group and form a sense of belonging than this. >> reporter: it will be up to the district attorney to decide whether to charge criminal charges in this case. rita williams, ktvu. hayward police arrested six students today after several

fights. the first one was between a mail and female student. then two other girls got in another fight. no weapons were found in any of the fights and no one was seriously injured. the two major candidates held their first and most likely only event today. san francisco district attorney harris is running against cooley. cooley said there is one major difference between them. he supports the death penalty and harris opposes it. >> she's absolutely consistently religiously refused to follow the constitution and her oath in that regard. >> two drive home a point, cooley said he has the support of the family of a san francisco police officer who was killed on the line of duty and that harris refused to use

the death penalty against his killer. >> the reality is i'm opposed to the death penalty, but i will follow the law. >> the san francisco chronicle has endorsed harris while the los angeles times is backing cooley. most polls show cooley with a slim lead. police say a woman has come forward accusing a 30-year-old man of raping her. police first arrested lamar lucero last tuesday for forcing a 16-year-old girl to have a sexual relationship with him for about a year. kucero was then released on bail. since then a woman has come forward claiming that kucero raped her last year. police rearrested kucero but again he posted $100,000 bail and was released. detectives say there maybe other victims in this case and

they are urging them to contact police. and the rowdy reputation is growing following two bar fights. one of those spilled into the streets and made it to you tube. now residents and officials are sparring over how to corral the troublemakers. heather holmes is live tonight from walnut creek with our report. >> at least one restaurant owner here on main street says he is feeling the backlash of those weekend brawls that are raising questions about public safety and police staffing. this cell phone video shows walnut creek's bar scene turning violent. it is four minutes of fists flying and profanity laced jabs. >> it has definitely affected our business and possibly the other business as well.

>> reporter: the restaurant also had a incident last weekend. it has led to concern. >> we've have a reunion we're having this weekend for a high school family reunion and they wanted to know that they were going to have a safe environment. >> reporter: last weekend posed bigger problems. officers were slow to respond to this brawl right across the street from the police department because all 13 officers on duty were busy dealing with a fight at vice ultra lounge a few blocks away. >> we had all our officers there dealing with that situation because there were so many people involved we couldn't do anything else in the remainder of the city. >> reporter: about 30 people were involved, three were arrested. management says it is taking steps with their on-site security to try to avoid future problems. >> we have a meeting to go over that incident. we are going to make sure we

at death of a blue whale. the pregnant whale washed ashore south of pescadero in san mateo county. experts say it's likely the 80- foot long whale died four or five days ago and when the caucus washed ashore the fetus was expelled. it's estimated there are fewer

than 4,000 blue whales in the world. someone in santa cruz county is using posters, high tech surveillance cameras and the worldwide web in an effort some are calling vigilatism. fliers have been posted unanimously accusing two people of robberies. the photo is taken from a you tube video which appears to show two people breaking into a home. the flier and the website claims the pair steals medical marijuana and other items. what is shocking is the flier urges people to go after the thieves. >> we're not vigilantes we just want to protect our town. >> deputies did say the department discourages anyone from quote hunting down suspects on their own. pleasant hill city council is giving their full backing to

the measure to increase taxes. measure t would raise the utility tax to 1.2% and expand it to include cable, electricity, gas, water and sewer bills. down the road the pleasantton city council was expected this evening to give clorox the go ahead to expand their research facility there. clorx has already announced it seeking to add a sixth building for research and development work. clorox says it still will keep its headquarters in oakland. a report showing service sector business activity expanding helped fuel the rally. the dow ended the day up 193 points near the 11,000 mark. the nasdaq gained 55.

farm workers showed up at meg whitman's campaign office with a message for the republican candidate for governor. nicky refers to nicky diaz who whitman says she fired after she learned she was an illegal immigrant. the protesters said they wanted to talk to the candidate, but they were told she was not in the office. they said they would return at a later time. alred says nicky diaz case was referred to her by another attorney but would not say by who. >> where was whitman when diaz gave birth to her baby. it would have been nice. but mrs. whitman did none of these for the person that she said was part of her family.

a story out of tennessee is spreading like wildfire throughout the country leaving dismay in its path. a family lost their home and pets at a fire because firefighters refused to put it out. jason and claudette says they simply had not gotten to pay $75 fee. >> i thought they would come

today released their latest assessment of solution in san francisco bay. in it researchers point to the effects of people. >> the bay is urbanized and with the millions of the people of growth we've experienced over the years comes increased pollutants among the persons. >> among are mercury from batteries. scientists say each person's tiny contribution amounts to damage on the bay. we posted results for the latest reports just look for web links. and i told you live storm tracker ii had some green on it. light rainfalling. you can see the rotation on

this low. you don't often see this type of pattern, the rotation like this. there's a low center in the valley and it's looping off the mountain. so the low is kind of in the city here. tomorrow is the same pattern which could allow some of those showers to pull over the top, come out of the north and out of the east and bring us a few sprinkles. coming up in just about two frames or four frames from now aisle going to show -- now i'm going to show you the computer models. what we're looking for is this low pressure center to stage. we have one more day, with that we can expect some winds, 30 to 40-miles-an-hour. temperatures in the 60s and mid- 70s. and a slight chance of a sprinkle as this system begins to move off. it's a nuisance really, it would be great to get some rain. we get some rain in the buckets. whatever we get tomorrow and this is it it will be light.
