an suv smashed into a restaurant this afternoon. no one inside the mi pueblo restaurant were injured. a driver in the other vehicle suffered minor injuries. the cause of the accident is still under investigation. the highway patrol today said it pointed to what it called an unsafe turning move as the possible cause of a tanker truck accident in morganhill. the truck was carrying molden glass when it overturned. before the tanker could be up righted, the wax had to be siphoned off. highway patrol doesn't believe drugs or alcohol was involved. an overloading switching system caused a stop. it wasn't a problem with the automated system as first reported. the first problem happened at

10:00 p.m. then it happened again. concord police say the men who robbed two restaurants within an hour last night are still at large. today, police released these photos taken by a surveillance camera. police say the two men entered the round table pizza, actually i guess we don't have the surveillance shot but entered the round table pizza then ordered everyone to the ground. about 10 minutes later they robbed a subway sandwich shop. in both cases the men ended up getting away with cash. 17-year-old joseph gonzalez barbosa received a sentence for shooting out of a car. the couple was targeted bratuchi's former boyfriend who ended up suffering only a hand

a packed meeting at city hall in emeryville tonight, the topic an empty building that ikea wants to turn into a warehouse. the problem, some residents are opposed to it. heather holmes has the story. >> reporter: i just came down

from city hall across the street where many people for the past two hours have been speaking out against this project. most of them were holding these signs and just minutes ago, the city council voted. council members siting with residents unanimously and they shot down ikea's proposal. that is exactly what a majority an overwhelming majority of people wanted as they argued that this particular proposal would negatively affect their quality of life. >> angry residents voiced concerns that what ikea wants to put here at hollis and 53rd street will shatter the piece they say currently exists here. >> we really feel it would change the character of our neighborhood to have that kind of activity right next to our

home. >> reporter: it would operate seven days a week from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with deliveries every morning. >> there would be constant activity and noise and comotion. whether it's from the delivery trucks or from the customers in their vehicles and the banging and talking and cars in and out. >> reporter: creating safety hazards and generating air pollution argues turner and other residents. ikea though says it needs the space. and says it hazarded residents concerns. >> we offered to put up a sound wall along the truck dock area. we're increasing the landscaping all along spur alley which is the area that fronts the neighborhood and we're also doing some things operationally to control the noise that would be emitted from the trucks during delivery. >> reporter: but again, tonight despite those commitments from ikea and despite getting the green light from the city planning commission. the city council said this project was not right for this

finally starting to happen. the bart extension to the south bay which has been talked about now for years and even though most of the funding is in place, there is still another obstacle ahead. jana kastuyama has our report. >> reporter: for bart riders traveling south, freemont is the end of the line. many riders say they would like to see bart from side a way to san jose. >> it would be fabulous. a lot of times i want to get down there but i can't. >> i think that would be a good thing. it would open the door for a lot more people to travel without using their cars. >> instead of driving here, take a bart. i think it's a good idea. >> reporter: that idea is gaining ground. as construction crews in milpedas today prepared an old

freight train right of way to be converted into a bart line. the 16-mile extension would run through milpedas and downtown san jose ending in santa clara. it's a $6.1 billion project but only 85% of the funding is in place. that's why today, u.s. representative mike honda and bill logrin invited a federal official to tour the site. >> we're relocating this track that you see here. >> reporter: silican valley has applied for $12 billion of stimulus funds. today the federal official had encouraging words. >> this bart project is a great example of the type of thing that the obama administration really is looking to support which is bringing new modes of

gate bridge. but it was exciting to see. fleet week is wonderful as always. there's fog at the coast right now. it's very dense. we got weather headed our way up in the form of this weather system right here. it's going to move in. probably on thursday night into friday, bring us a slight chance of a sprinkle. that leads to more shower possibilities as we head into your bay area weekend. sunday looks wet. forecast overnight lows, as we go through the day not in the 90s, no 80s really. just 70s and 60s around the bay. so cooler tomorrow. today was the warmest day of the week. tomorrow will be slightest cooler. as you march into the area's microclimates, 70 degrees out in oakland, showers down, saturday cool. after this the high pressure breaks down and we get an opportunity for some showers in here. there's your tomorrow, there's

the high pressure. fog along the coast. i think it's going to stay all day. temperature coast side just in the upper 50s. but as we head into the next 24, 36 hours, this high weakens, this high comes in and it lingers. then again saturday night into sunday. the sunday event looks significant. when i say significant maybe 1/4-inch of rain. thursday night at 10:00, there's that overnight sprinkle, shower drizzle. no big deal. so then we drive it a little more, we get into friday night. here we are again saturday afternoon, evening clouds increasing. looks like a chance of showers. i mean it's a long way out but you get a feel for what's going on here. there's sunday afternoon. that looks pretty well. that looks like you are going to get some snow in the mountains. long way out. this is the computer model as it stands on tuesday. we'll look at this thing and see if things change a little bit. but right now we have showers back in the forecast. which be nice, it will knock
