. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is the 10:00 news on ktvu, channel 2 news. there will be no world series sweep for the giants. the texas rangers came back to life on their home turf and defeated san francisco at the ballpark in arlington. good evening, i'm ken wayne. >> hello again, everyone, i'm heather holmes. after two straight games of explosive games by san francisco the world series took a turn in texas.

>> the late comebacks that came up a little bit short. joe? >> reporter: yes, the world series shifted to arlington for the first ever series game hosted by the texas rangers. pitcher jonathan sanchez has seen the go ahead and the bad of post season play. he found himself in a 3-0 hole after putting two runners on base and allowing a homerun to morland hitting in the number nine spot. josh hamilton homerun in the 5th made it 4-0. but times for the giants mr. post season cody ross goes deep in the 7th. five homeruns for ross in the post season. in the 8th the giants got one run closer. andre torres goes deep. each team hits a pair of homeruns but they came up empty. feliz pitched a perfect 9th inning fanning juan uribe to win it. trailing 2-1 after this 4-2

win. this game of contrasts is two played in san francisco where the giants scored a combined 20 runs. >> we scored two homeruns so we know we are in it. but especially in this ballpark things happen. all of the credit over there. they pitched great. >> it's a different league. you know, it's the american league. their guy got a big hit. you know, sanchez was a pitch away from having a pretty good outing there. he was getting out of that jam. and just made a mistake. he settled in after that and was throwing the ball better. but you know that's what you deal with the dh. and we didn't think this would be easy. you know, they played very well tonight. and tomorrow hopefully, you know, we will get back on track here with the bats. >> bruce boche said it nobody said it would be easy. more coming up in sports wrap including a live report from

[ applause ] >> reporter: what happened tonight? >> oh, sanchez didn't -- he was kind of shaky so i felt if we were going to lose it will be tonight. we will be okay. >> well, you know what at least we made it a ball game. the other games with the rangers we destroyed them. >> great game. one bad pitch created a three run homerun. >> we came here lost a game.

won the first two. cliff who that's what i have to say after game one. we will come back don't worry about it. >> gave them one game because it wouldn't be fair if we just swept them. but we will win the next two. >> let texas take a game. >> you are just being generous. >> we will take it tomorrow and we wouldn't want it any other way. >> give you an idea of just how many giants fans are here. saw some buses lined up outside the ballpark this afternoon. several buses. we thought it might be the team. turns out it was 400 members of the giants organization from the front office. and everyone who is a full-time employee there, they tell me that the owner flew them out here on a chartered 747 just so they could sit back and relax and watch the game. we expect to talk to more fans tomorrow after the game. and perhaps we will have more to smile about after game four tomorrow. in arlington, ken pritchard, can of the ktvu. well, the giants may be in

texas but the giants spirit was alive and well tonight in san francisco. [ applause ] many bars across the bay area were packed with people watching tonight's games. although it was a tough night for the giants fans proudly wearing orange and black they made the best of it. while a devoted fan displayed his love for the team in a very unique way. taking that fear of the beer rally cry sparked by brian wilson to a whole new level. >> i wanted to be dressed up. you got to be creative and think like brian wilson. you want a beard you got to put it somewhere different. so i had the chest hair, why not. >> that is different. beard wearing is of course at an all-time high especially ling into halloween. check out these cousins from the peninsula. they dressed up as cody ross and the man who started it all brian wilson. the giants and rangers are scheduled to be back at it tomorrow. ktvu's coverage of game four

starts at 4:30 in the afternoon. and with the ranger's win tonight that means there will be a game five on monday in texas. a little more giants coverage later on in this newscast. in other news tonight, a bizarre accident delayed bart service in the east bay. somehow a man and his wheelchair were run over by a bart train. ktvu's janna katsuyama is in hayward with the details. >> reporter: ken, tonight we have learned that victim is 64- year-old curtis fuller. he is in critical condition, still alive. it turns out that a design feature of these bart tracks might be the reason that he wasn't killed on the spot. this afternoon, bart passengers watched stunned as train operators slowly separated the train cars and revealed the spot where a richmond-bound train ran over the man and his wheelchair. it happened around 2:50 p.m. >> when we were pulling up into the hayward station we heard a lot of people yelling on the platform. and then all of a sudden we

heard a big bottom. >> reporter: witnesses say 64- year-old curtis fuller fell on to the tracks just seconds before the train pulled in. >> once the train stopped then it was people, like, screaming on the platform. and somebody ran and told the train operator that we just hit someone. >> reporter: bart employees and emergency responders managed to pull fuller out. by chance he had fallen between the rail lines on the center of the tracks where there is a two and a half foot vertical gap between the ground and the body bottom of the train. crews say he was unconscious but breathing. he was taken in an ambulance to eden medical center in hayward. at the scene clothing and other evidence were strewn across the track. police also found a firearm on the track. but they are not sure if it belongs to the victim. investigators say this appears to be an accident. >> as we understand it, somehow an adjustment of the wheelchair, one of the wheels got over the edge of the platform and the person fell into the trackway. >> reporter: train service was

delayed for about a half an hour as operators routed trains through a single track. >> very surprising. i have never heard of too many accidents involving bart trains and people. >> you've got to be careful no matter what. i mean, it's like -- i don't think there is any way to make any, you know, anything completely, you know, accident- proof. >> reporter: bart officials interviewed the train operator and it appears he was not at fault. >> when you are pulling into a station at 35 miles per hour it is very hard to stop any train on a dime. >> bart officials say they take passenger safety seriously. they want to make sure passengers know they have these pamphlets available with the safety tips. reporting live in hayward, janna katsuyama, ktvu, channel 2 news. san francisco homicide investigators are trying to determine what led to the death of a woman inside her home. the woman's body was found at about 4:30 this morning at a house in the 900 block of chestnut street. that's in the city's russian hill neighborhood. officers wentto the house after

they received a request to conduct a well-being check of the woman. the victim's identity has not yet been released. so far the police have not made any arrests. authorities in sonoma county are investigating an officer-involved shooting that left a suspected gang member dead. the shooting happened at about 10:30 last night on hargrave near santa rose is a. authorities say the man would not get out of his car as ordered. officers say after using less lethal means of subduing the man he accelerated the car forward and struck a deputy's vehicle. that's when the officers opened fire. dozens of people in the east bay gave up their guns today and were paid to do it. the hayward police department hosted a gun buyback event at the station. those who came got $50 in cash with each weapon turned in with no questions asked. we have heard numerous stories about kids who have gotten hold of a weapon and sitting in the closet of mom or dads and they forgot about it. and injured themselves or killed themselves.

others have broken into your house and taken those firearms and used those firearms to commit crimes somewhere else. >> reporter: they received firearms to a musket dating back to before the war. volunteers for meg whitman worked the phones in oakland this morning. the candidate herself campaigned in southern california today promising to cut wasteful government spending for good. >> you know, i am a proven job creator. that's what i've done for my entire career. jerry brown has been part of the war on jobs in sacramento for 40 years and it is going to end on tuesday. [ applause ] although most recent polls show we go meg whitman trailing but she hauled it a dead heat and predicted she will win. >> jerry brown is also barn storming the state this weekend. >> on to victory. [ applause ] >> that was brown campaigning in the central valley.

he was pointing to his environmental record and saying california can create a half a million green jobs. the former governor plans to tour almost the entire state during the next three days. after concentrating on several smaller cities this weekend, brown plans to wrap up his campaign monday in san diego, la and then oakland. we have a special section set up on our website for tuesday's election. go to ktvu, ktvu.com and click on the election 2010 tab. >> straight ahead, a party goes overboard. why the cal palace is being looked at once again. and what sent more than a dozen young people to the hospital. yes or no. a look at a new explosive poll on proposition 19. have they changed their minds

. there are many questions tonight about what took place at a concert at the cal palace last night that sent more than a dozen young people to the hospital. as ktvu's jim vargas reports, many of those directly involve in the concert aren't talking.

>> reporter: exactly how many thousands of young people were at the spookfest last night we don't know. because in the near the promoter or cal palace were available to us today. but at last count 17 young people were hospitalized due to drug and alcohol overdoses two in critical condition. one emergency responder told us there appeared to be ecstasy, cocaine and other drugs at the party. >> we saw a lot of altered levels of conscienceness and the inability to maintain their own airway and a lot of vomiting. the. >> reporter: the rave was opened to party goers as young as 16. the parking lot had a handful of cars and remnants of the party strewn around. although a sign over the entrance to the event clearly states no alcohol or drugs were allowed, we found empty cans and bottles of better and hard alcohol. even a few throwaway sneak it in flasks. for those who wanted to be wide

awake drunks there were 12% alcohol and caffeine. a malt liquor some people think should be banned from the state. one state legislature who represents this area places blame on cal palace management. >> you've got to be brain dead to know that if you have these events there will be problems. >> reporter: state senator leland yee are concerned that the two drug deaths like happened in cal palace earlier this year will happen again. >> you have got to increase the police presence and increase the medical presence. >> reporter: one 14-year-old girl we spoke with says the solution is to stop the raves. >> they should have more stuff like the football games, the arena football games and, like, the dicky fair. >> reporter: the cal palace is state owned. senator yee indicates more pressure will be used to prevent last night's incidents from happening again. jim vargas, ktvu, channel 2 news. the san mateo county coroner identified today the man struck and killed yesterday

by a train. 40-year-old michael turick of san diego was fatally hit by an approaching cal trained. it happened just after 3 p.m. at the belmont station. officials say he was trespassing on the tracks. it is unclear tonight if the death was a suicide or an accident. this is though the 9th death on cal train tracks this year. alameda county residents who couldn't wait for election day voted today. the county registrar in oakland was busy with voters casting ballots for the mid-term election. early birds can also vote monday at the registrar on fallon and 12th streets from 8:30 in the morning to 5 p.m. on tuesday, all polls open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. and to find your neighborhood polling place just check out the back cover of your sample ballot. also in oakland today, community leaders rallied to pass measure bb and keep the police officers on the streets. dozens gathered for the rally at st. patrick's church this morning. measure bb would restore $20 million in funding, including money for more than 60 police

officers who would work in specific neighborhoods. those community assignments were lost in july when the department laid off officers. council woman nancy nadel is urging passage. >> if bb doesn't pass, we will likely have to lay-off additional police. we will not have the incredible network of violent prevention programs that are so successful. >> the rally also called for passage of measure l a partial tax to support oakland's schools that will generate $20 million to increase salaries of teachers and other school employees. the final exclusive ktvu field poll before tuesday's election took a look at three high profile initiatives. proposition 19 which would legal arizona recreational marijuana for adults is losing ground in the final stretch. the field poll indicates 49% of voters are against the proposition while 42% favor it. 9% remain undecided. almost half of the voters polled are against proposition

23. it would suspend california's landmark greenhouse gas law until the state's unemployment rate drops. 48% of voters oppose the measure. 43% support it. 19% have not decided. and 48% plan to vote for proposition 25, which would only require a simple majority to pass the state budget. 31% of those polled say they are against proposition 25. 21% haven't made up their minds. tomorrow night we will take a closer look at proposition 19 and the potential ramifications should it pass. see how it could open the door to a whole new line of businesses. that's tomorrow night on the 10:00 news. well, there is word tonight that employees at a cannabis college in oakland have ratified a union contract. the united food and commercial workers union says its members in oakland, la and bountiful have reached an agreement with the parent company of observingsterdam university and the blue sky coffee shop

covering wages and grievances. believed to be the first ever contract between the union and the cannabis industry. a manmade off with cash from a bank. he entered the bank of the west this morning and demanded cash from a he will iter. he then jumped on the counter, pushed the teller back and then grabbed money from the cash drawer. the police say the robber then offered $100 to someone for a ride to santa cruz saying he had just robbed a bank. well, that person declined the offer. you can take a look at these pictures here. the robber is described as five feet nine inches tall with a thin build and un shave end. >> a remote area of southwest tahoe was rattled by an earthquake. the magnitude 4.3 quake hit 4 miles east of lake at that showand 100 miles east of sacramento. struck at 3 p.m. no reports of any damages or

. >> a huge terror plot probe led to the arrest today of a woman in yemen. she is suspected of mailing two bombs addressed to chicago area jewish groups that were found on cargo planes yesterday. katherine haridge tonight has the latest development. >> reporter: many authorities authorized arrested a woman. the suspect is believed to have sent two explosives found on cargo planes in the united arab emirates in england. >> the information that we have acquired says that it is a

woman who sent those two shipments through those shipping agencies. >> reporter: the two packages handled by fedex and ups were addressed to jewish groups in chicago but never made it to the united states. they contain the explosive pten. the intelligence tip was very specific. and it led the investigators to the tracking numbers for both packages. british officials say one of the devices could have downed a plane if gone undetected. >> the device was viable and could have exploded. the target may have been an aircraft. and had it detonated, the aircraft could have been brought down. >> reporter: some experts are highlighting weaknesses in airfreight security. >> there are a whole bunch of problems there revolving around how we examine the freight pallets that go onboard airplanes and the individual items of freight that go on aprils. >> reporter: u.s. counter terrorism officials say all

signs point to an al qaeda plot and the group behind the christmas day bombing. the operational leader in yemen has called for attacks against the u.s. the package was of a higher quality than the underwear bomb that failed on christmas day. adding that it is more evidence that the packages were not a dry run. in washington, katherine haridge fox news. in other world of the news tonight in indonesia the official death toll from monday's deadly tsunami road rose to 413 today. relief efforts are being hampered because of a fears storm keeping boats and planes from reaching the islands. 23,000 people have been displaced by the tsunami. it was triggered by a 7.7 earthquake. on the caribbean island of bar bay doughs today tropical storm thomas caused damage before strengthening into hurricane thomas. it is now heading away from barbados with winds of 90 miles

per hour. winds are expected to worsen during the next few days. but at this point the full force of the hurricane is not expected to hit any populated areas. in mexico this weekend people are getting into the swing of the annual day of the dead alterations. altars were on prominent display in mexico city. it is celebrated in several latin american companies. family and friends remember relatives who have died with prayer and celebration. with the upcoming election on tuesday politicians about the country are going about the very serious work of last minute campaigning. in the nation's capital today two comedians tried to turn that around. the rally for sanity and/or fear was hosted by jon stewart and stephen colbert. he came in a capsule used to pull those trapped miners to safety. he had some harsh words though.

. for giants fans who couldn't make it to texas the neighborhood pub was a popular place to be to watch the giants game. mike mibach found out that every corner bar seemed to be packed tonight. >> reporter: and ken so many neighborhoods and pubs like sunset. when each one gets together to watch the game it is quite a scene. even out here in the usually fogged in avenues of the sunset. ♪ let's go giants ♪ >> reporter: welcome to the inner sunset. this is dancing saloon at 9th and irving. >> i love the energy. >> reporter: these giants fans had no desire to watch game three down at the ballpark. instead they camped out here hanging with friends and fans at their neighborhood pub. >> it's just great to be in the hometown crowd with everybody that loves the giants. ♪ let's go giants ♪ >> reporter: jonathan sanchez took the hill and gave up the three spot early on.

>> we are stressed. >> reporter: the crowd became stressed even more. the giants went down four in the 5th. even though confidence is still brewing inside. >> get the hit and get something going. torture, that's all it is, torture. >> reporter: the fans in the inner sunset got even louder when the giants got within two runs. but that is as close as they got. after the final out was recorded, there was no celebration. there was confidence. >> we knew that it would be tough going to texas. they put up a good fight. and see how it goes. i like our chances overall. >> giants all the way. you know, they always come back. they are known for that. >> we held them down. they only scored four runs. but the kid is going to come to life tomorrow. >> these guys are so much fun. they have been through so much and they deserve to win. they are playing like a team. they have what it takes. they have the whole team vibe to win the game, to win the whole thing. >> reporter: the giants' fans know they need two to win and have four chances to get it.

game. but come monday if it is a clinching game for the giants the network will allow the city to show it. well, having halloween on a weekend with the world series creates a quandary for families juggling the games as their kids desire for all of that candy. ktvu's deborah villalon caught up with some parents torn between both interests. >> listen to it in the car. hoping to get back there pretty quick. >> reporter: after the 7th inning stretch a dash to buy pumpkins so they could be created for tomorrow. as for sunday's game he has got a plan. >> got two young kids. definitely wantto go out and go trick or treating. i might schedule the be at home time to hand out candy while the game is on. >> reporter: fans found ways to watch the game while fulfilling parental duties. at southland mall at hayward held a trick or treat event at the home. they were moving fast to get

home. >> just do it for 30 minutes and then watch nigh game. >> actually i am recording it on my dvr and i will watch it later on. >> kids first and then giants. i know, number one fan, go giants. >> reporter: away from home the mall's radio shak store created a view of the game. the crowd grew as the game went on. not cozy but communal. >> stressful, huh? >> i am sweating because i want to go watch the game. >> but like so many moms and dads he doesn't. afterall, halloween only comes once a year. giants in the world series -- oh, never mind. >> have the kids, take them out and be safe. and oh, man they have just scored a homerun. >> this store was swarmed with 60 fans with the giants run. >> it's giants fever i am one of the fans. i am distracted i will be honest. >> reporter: are you watching behind the counter there? >> no comment. >> reporter: by this time tomorrow night the trick or treaters will be exhausted and

the pumpkins all carved. and hopefully we won't be saying the same thing about the giants. in emeryville, deborah villalon, ktvu, channel 2 news. craigslist is moving its headquarters to downtown san francisco. the company currently operates out of a victoria january in the city's inner sunset district. but will have a 60 year sublease for 14,000 square feet of space at 222 sutter street. the brokerage firm that worked with the sub-leaseer beverly prior architects announced the deal. craigslist website says 30 people work at the inner sunset location. it is a very popular class i'd online advertising site. service cuts to dozens of ac transit lines will be set for tomorrow. the move is meant to help save an estimated $11.5 million each year. the cuts mean some riders will have to wait longer for more crowded bus. areas or routes to be changed

[ music ] we've been tracking quite a few rain clouds over the past few days. well, right now the showers are moving out of town. that will set the stage for a little bit of a different forecast over the next few days. in fact, beginning tomorrow for halloween. take a look right now at live

storm tracker 2. you can still see some lingering rain showers right around redding as well. that activity will be on the decrease. it will not be a factor in the bay area forecast as we do head into sunday. in fact an overall decrease in the clouds expected over the next 24 hours. this was the scene today looking out towards the bay. of course we had the clouds and thes showers. mostly cloudy skies for tonight. dry for halloween. the extended forecast does feature a significant warmup in temperatures. the warmest locations could be approaching the 80-degree mark at least over the next few days. for tomorrow morning partly to mostly cloudy days. start out in the 40 s to the 50s. napa 45 and san jose at 50 degrees. satellite and radar see all of the activity that moves across the bay area over the past 12 hours. we have this frontal system just offshore. looks like all of the energy will be heading up to our north. we will still continue to pick up a few clouds at least over the next 12 hours. this will be the forecast for sunday right on through

tuesday. even beyond that point as well. high pressure rebuilds. have that dry weather pattern, clearing skies and temperatures continue to warm up. in fact, the warming trend begins tomorrow. it really kicks in as we head into monday and also into tuesday. so for tomorrow morning, partly to mostly cloudy skies. temperatures right around 45 to 52 degrees. see some of the cloud cover tomorrow morning at 7:00. and then into the afternoon hours skies becoming partly sunny. even have a few mostly sunny observations. the temperatures range in right around 60 to 69 degrees. here is a look at the number, oakland tops out at mid-60s with increasing sunshine tomorrow afternoon. san jose is 68. morgan hill in the upper 60s. san francisco is right around 64 degrees. and the big trick or treat forecast for tomorrow. no raindrops out there. won't need umbrellas with mostly clear skies. temperatures on average from the upper 60s to the lower 60s. here is a look ahead at your five day forecast.

temperatures trending upwards to monday with quite a bit of sunshine out there. tuesday the warmest locations in the upper 70s. just some slight cooling for wednesday and thursday. no rain clouds in the five day forecast. i will use a big word here, if the giants have to come home later in the week it looks like the forecast should be just fine with dry conditions and some mild numbers. but that is a big condition. >> i wonder how many little pandas and beards we will see out there. >> could have some interesting costumes out there tomorrow. >> thanks, mark. >> the fox television network and cable provider cablevision reached a deal today that finally restores fox programming to more than three million new york area subscribers. fox turned off its signal two weeks ago because of a dispute over just how much cablevision should pay for fox programs. fox issued a statement saying the signal would be back on before the first pitch of tonight's world series game, something that those subscribers have not been able to see. now, there is no word on how much cablevision agreed to pay

[ music ] >> good evening, everyone. welcome to saturday night edition of sports wrap. game three of the world series took an entirely different tone tonight as the texas rangers got back in the middle of things on their home field. the ballpark in arlington hosting the fall classic for the first time in its history. and in desperate need of a win, the rangers got a career effort

from pitcher colby lewis who struck out pat burell. at the bottom of the first gets a nice play behind him to guerrero's drive before hitting the wall. burell 8-9 with four strikeouts at the plate. sanchez not a i believe to -- able to work his way out of a jam with two on and two outs. rich morland put it out in the seats. happy about the big moment in the series. the giants have done a good job of holding josh hamilton in check. begot hold of the hamilton pitch in the 5th. makes it a 1-0 game. one walk and sanchez was finished for the night. the giants did get back in it cody ross has been many post season for san francisco. in the 7th ross went deep for the fifth time since the playoffs began. and in the 8th things got tighter. andre torres with the solo shot

off lewis. after lewis hit aubrey huff, he gave way to reliever darren oday. oday faced buster posey as the dying run. but posey ground back up the middle to end the inning and preserve the 4-2 lead. and then in the 9th the rangers called on their closer feliz. feliz put the giants down in order striking out juan uribe to end the game. there will be no sweep as texas gets back in the series with a 4-2 win. the stage is now set for game four tomorrow in which madison baumgartner will go up. but we are getting ahead of ourselves. fred, i'm sure bruce boche is weighing a number of decisions when it comes to game four, isn't he? >> i hope so. pat burell0-8 in the world series.

he struck out 19. he is uncomfortable and can't play when he is uncomfortable. let's hope he tells bruce boche that. but the texas rangers hitters took jonathan sanchez and 6-19 in four and two-thirds inning. a 315 batting average. also walked three rangers including ex teammate benji molina. and that allowed mitch morland to come in. that was a nine pitch battle and the rookie first baseman rich morland won that battle.
