as a rubaway by law enforcement, but her parents believe she was lured to southern california by a plan she met on the internet. debra villone in concord. >> reporter: heather, we're in todos santos park where concord held holiday festivities. while in another corner of the park, a vigil was held for stephanie cudd. >> bring her comfort, bring her peace and wisdom. >> reporter: a few dozen fem prayed for the safety of stephanie cudd. at the forefront her parents and little sister, flanked by family and stephanie's friends. >> 15 is a tough age. for all of us. >> stephanie's parents woke up monday to find her gone with no warning, no provevation, taking only a laptop, a few clothes, $20 and a backpack. she took the memory from her cell phone and erased computer files so she couldn't be

tracked. >> there is no category for a teenager who has been lured away and talked out of house. >> reporter: her family says what set stephanie apart from other runaways are phone calls they uncovered between her and a 22-year-old man in ontario up to the night she left. the family doesn't know him, but she told friends he was "an internet buddy." >> this somebody has brainwashed my niece. >> reporter: those who know stephanie say even though she left willingly, she was lured. >> she is a very shy, naive girl. she is not street-smart. >> reporter: the cudds have share what is your address they know with detectives and now shared what they know with police. >> she is trapped in a

basement and will spend the next ten years being abused. >> reporter: these are the most recent photos we have of 15- year-old stephanie cudd celebrating thanksgiving with family, with no hint she was about to take off. her parents say she has never run away before. now tonight i talked to the contra costa sheriff's department and say she has been put anyway database for endangered minors, but does not qualify for a amber alert because she left. 58-year-old debra collins of felton was located this morning off an unmarked trail in fall creek state park. the hikers, a man and his 7- year-old son heard about the missing woman and set out to find her. rescuers reached collins about 2:00 p.m. she was suffering from hypothermia, but was reportedly

criminal charges for allegedly stealing if electronics from hotel rooms. investigators say 28-year-old robert huang gained access to a hotel room and stole go laptops. one of them was later recognized on a craigslist ad. officers arrested huang for possession of stolen property, bureaury and possession of burglary tools. >> three people accused of abusing and shackling a tracy teenager are expected to be sentenced. michael schumacher and his wife and the legal guardian caren ramirez pleaded guilty to charges including use of a deadly weapon and causing great body injury to a child. all face sentences of at least 30 years from in print. the cause made national headlines after the victim

escaped and ran to a nearby health club. we have new details about jail letters by the woman held withhold punta gorda duggard for 18 years. the two are charged with kidnapping duggard in 1991. a sea lion who has been strand on land before had to be rescued today. this is na'au a 170-pound female california sea lion. marine mammal center has rashad her twice before in santa cruz county, but this time she made it up the delta. residents first spotted na'au along delta road at least a mile from the nearest source of water. >> she has been treated at our

we cannot only have a healthy salmon stock, but that we can also have everything else that comes with living in a healthy environment. >> reporter: many fishermen blame the drine in the transfer of water from the sacramento river to farms in the central valley, but state officials say toxins in the water as well as predators are also to blame. a small claims court judge is deciding a rather unusual case in marin county. two men claimed that they were injured by exploding escargot at seafood peddler in san rafael. the company's insurance company says that the men had no proof of injury and refused to pay. that judge is expected to reach a decision within about two week. the un says that human trafficking is one of the fastest-growing criminal enterprises in the world. a civil industry fueled in part by the global economic slowdown. these modern-day slaves can

slavery. the goal to get as many girls off the streets as possible. officers posing as johns look for the youngest girls and detain them or more to the point, free them from their pimps, the human traffickers driving this whole enterprise. >> what surprises people the most is that it's something that occurs in america with american men exploiting american children. >> reporter: investigators say child prostitution is on the rise in oakland for one reason, money. so much money that police here are seeing drug-dealers turning to pimping. >> why? because drugs you can only sell once and children you can sell over and over again. the financial gain would be enormous a pimp with four girls that each bring in $500 a day are taking in more than $600,000 a year, all cash, tax- free. the demand is there and so is the supply. prosecutors say it's no secret where these girls come from. >> about 70% of these kids have been in foster care or

some social service situation and a lot of kids have been victims of the child sexually abuse and live in environments with no self-worth. that makes them easier preys for psychopaths, which human traffickers are. >> reporter: the alameda district attorney's office fought for a law that allows california d.a.s to charge pimps with human trafficking a felony still, despite their success, authorities say child prostitution here shows no signs of slowing, as any drive down cannot track will show you. >> that was dan simon reporting for cnn. 30 days after the november election, each bay congressional candidate harmer

a group of bay area firefighters is battling to bring smiles to the faces of many children. its annual holiday drive is not driving in business. donations are down 50%. all the while, 2000 families are still hoping to have a special holiday. ktvu's john sasaki reports. >> reporter: everybody loves a shopping spree and this is a shopping spree for children in need. >> it's a lot of fun just it gives us a lot of joy to be able to pick out the toys and know that they are going to go to some kid who is going to get a lot of enjoyment out of it. >> reporter: we. watched the firefighter's toy drive as it invaded wal-mart in richmond, looking to spend about $4,000. just some of the things that will go to the county's needist children. >> so for them to get something like this, a little boy to get something like this, i think they would just be

ecstatic and would be so happy to have something to play with that they could actually call this own. >> reporter: while it looks like a lot of toys it doesn't come close to meeting the needs of the west county communities. >> it's families from all walks of life. people who have jobs a year-ago and don't have them now. when you say "disadvantaged" now, it's everybody. >> reporter: last year was tough for the toy drive. what is shocking for this time in the season, toys and monetary donations are down by half from last year. fire stations around west contra costa county have these barrels waiting for toy donations, but a big part of the problem is most of them are empty. so the toy drive organizers are pleading to the public. >> to say thank you to everybody in our community that comes out to help.

>> reporter: officials say most those needy families have two or more children. this drive also focuses on food. in richmond, i'm john sasaki, channel 2 news. thousands meals were put together by 300 employees from applied materials spent the day boxing up meals for low-income families. this year the technology company collected more than 235,000 pounds of food, including turkeys and that is enough to make 254,000 meals. organizers hope that the food drive encourages others to give. >> as folks enjoy the abundance of what they have been given, think about those less fortunate and give whatever you can in whatever way you can. the need is great. >> is the 15th year applied materials has organized a food

have rainshowers out there. this was the scene, to the oakland estuary and we have the clouds and showers. still a few showers for tonight. more rain for your sunday as the storm center approaches. unsettled over the next few days for next week. you can see the clouds. a big factor for today. as far as rainfall, most areas picking up less than .10". first thing tomorrow morning, mostly cloudy skies and a chance of showers or a light sprinkle. san josi 48 and livermore in the upper 40s at 47. here is a the satellite and tht radar. of course, we can see the clouds and moisture moving in from the south and west. this will be approaching the coastline. rainfall rates will be picking up and also picking up, wind speeds. we talked about the wind advisory for the coast tomorrow afternoon, lasting until monday
