delta mendota canal but it's inside no sign of the boy or the man accused of abducting him. we start tonight at the edge of the canal with lloyd lacuesta where the search will continue. >> reporter: i'm on the banks of the delta mendota canal. and the authorities are saying that the murky waters are still holding the answers to what happened to juliani cardenas. the waters yielded a silver toyota that authorities say the abductor used to drive off with the boy ten days ago. sonar found the car earlier today wedged in a siphon drain as a tow truck driver raised the car a woman started crying. >> i'm praying for the family. praying that no someone in that car. >> reporter: a deputy told me that divers could not see inside car when it was in the water. but once it was ashore they

found the car empty. >> and you figured he is probably just hiding with the child somewhere. >> reporter: but the sheriff says while there were no bodies in the car. >> at least two windows were down. we believe there is a possibility that you know, jose and juliani are still in the canal and downstream. >> reporter: the sheriff says that tonight's find verifies what a farm worker saw. 45 minutes after the boy was taken from his home. >> he saw the car go into the canal. there the car. he saw a man and a boy with the car. it is likely they in the canal. >> reporter: we are learning tonight that with the cold, cold water, a bodies wouldn't surface for 14 days. tomorrow searchers will return to the canal and look from here to mendota, 117 miles to the south. lloyd lacuesta, ktvu channel 2 news.

the search for juliani cardenas started ten days ago when the amber alert was first issued. jose rodriguez grabbed the 4- year-old from the grandmother's arms and ran. rodriguez was seen in the car in a gas station in patterson. and today the suspect's car was pulled out of the canal. not finding a body has not discouraged the boy's mother. tabitha said she has not given up hope that her son is alive. >> i still believe that he is out there somewhere. ♪ amazing grace. >> cardenas is finding support from a woman in carmichael who organized this gathering. dozens of people have been moved by the story of the missing 4-year-old boy and they are planning to search for the child by handing out fliers and doing whatever is necessary.

now let's go to patterson and ktvu's amber lee where supporters have been gathering each night. >> reporter: we're in front of the home where the 4-year-old boy was taken from his family. tonight friends tell us his grandmother is inside holding on to hope that her grandson is alive. a steady stream of friends and supporters have stopped by the home to offer comfort. tonight this community is reeling from the news that searchers pulled up the car that beloved to jose rodriguez, the man accused of kidnapping juliani. >> what were you thinking when you saw the car? >> i broke down. i broke down. because i don't know what's ahead. >> reporter: a neighbor said she told us she called 9 1 on two occasions when she heard rodriguez threatening to kill the mother and grandmother. she has lit candles on her lawn.

been widespread violence in major egyptian cities all day and into the night. security forces could not stop the people. at least one protester was killed. the president will not back off on the crackdown. the firing of his cabinet did little to assuage the protesters. the people are fed up and angry. egypt matters to the u.s. for several reasons. it is the second largest recipient of foreign aid getting $1.5 billion last year. that is now under review. and egypt is the most important arab alli and controls the suez canal. the bay area has 70,000 egyptian-americans. jane katsuyama is live with a prayer vigil. >> reporter: we are in a church who are serving hundreds of egyptian families and they are

in palo alto we found the president of the egyptian- american society. >> i wish i was there to be able to do something or be out in the streets. >> reporter: many are outraged by the shutdown of the internet, their main way of communicating with family and friends overseas. >> it will only make it worse. it will make people more angry. >> reporter: the egyptian consulate did move from san francisco to los angeles this summer, meaning many bay area egyptians here are turning more to community centers and going online for support. in hayward, jane katsuyama, ktvu channel 2 news and the rally is planned for tomorrow in san francisco in support of the egyptian people. it is scheduled to start at noon at the corner of market and montgomery streets. 400 people have signed up online. the protest in egypt played on wall street today.

investigators have pinpointed the cause -- or haven't pinpointed the cause to the two- alarm blaze. officials say one firefighter was sent to the hospital after being hit by falling debris. we are told he is now back home. emotions are high in the montclair neighborhood of oakland where two pit bulls went on the attack. amber lee talked with an 82- year-old woman caught in the middle of the attack with neighbors trying to prevent a similar situation from happening again. >> residents say this is a place where the kids could play outside at night. but after two pit bulls mauled a dog on mountain road residents are look for ways to comfort an 82-year-old who said her dog dudley meant the world to her. >> i couldn't believe this was happening. the dog loose on mountain boulevard. >> reporter: [ inaudible ] who

five hours. the calls came from a device that calls 911 in the event of a vehicle crash but why that happened isn't clear. the highway patrol office in vallejo got a thousand phantom calls. already people are pro testing the decision to promote acting chief chris moore. we explain why people are upset. >> we ask that the city council and the mayor not ratify the city manager's decision. >> reporter: community leaders stood in solidarity voicing frustration that the city manager has chosen moore to be the next chief. >> the community clearly spoke in surveys that they wanted someone from outside of the community. >> reporter: the community groups were invited by the city to interview both candidates. the city manager has not officially announced moore as the chief but it's the other candidate confirmed he was not

news. protesters called for the solano county district attorney to do a more in-depth investigation into the shooting death of a man. he was taping an anticrime video at the time. police said that he pointed a pistol at them. friends say there are many unanswered questions. >> you want statements from the police and from the paramedics on the scene. we want to know why he was taken to concord hospital. >> reporter: he died on his way to the trauma center in walnut creek. ten people are facing charges connected to a prostitution and human trafficking ring. we reported their arrests after a year-long investigation. the alameda county district attorney's office says that two suspects pleaded not guilty yesterday and seven will be arraigned next week.

in australia one explosion after another in a paint fact factory in sydney. a worker said the flames spread so quickly that the entire factory was on fire. people living nearby were evacuated. no one was injuried and the cause of the fire has not been determined. a prosecutor said that a third victim has been identified in a child molestation case of a former juvenile hall counselor. he may face 20 extra charges. he pleaded not guilty to 50 other charges this month. all three victims are boys under the age of 15. he counseled children. the pet luna river could be getting cleaner soon. it has a lot of abandoned boats and that is about to change. one boat leaked oil in the river. the sergeant in charge of the

technology. >> reporter: the golden gate bridge, thousands cross it every day. >> it is hard to find a job. >> reporter: don has commuted to the job for 20 years. it is her home away from home. >> every time you turn on the tv, you see the bridge. it is a part of me. >> reporter: the bridge's board of director voted to eliminate her job and the job of other toll takers as early as september 2012. 33s of the drivers use cash and that is what this story is about. you take away the toll takers and the district saves $19 million. >> it is unfair they get to lose neighbor job over it. >> i think we have to say it is worst the savings. but i regret that people will have to suffer. >> reporter: but the decision is a part of a plan to collect all tolls electronically, a move designed to slash the

see that flush there. it gets here on sunday. here is how the system looks. it looks spindly here. but go out in the pacific and see it has a moisture tap right in -- in here. as it moves in we are looking at rain on bay area on sunday. the upshot, the fog is blown out of the valley. you are hating the fog. the daytime highs in 240s all week. the system comes in on sunday and brings a quarter inch to a half or more and blows the fog out. the folks in the valley get a break. some cities by vacaville and clayton will see warmer temperatures because the fog is gone. forecast in the mountains seeing a snow advisory up there. 4 to 7 inches maybe a foot of snow. that is for sunday. sunday night. the computer model, saturday night it starts to sprinkle a bit in santa rosa. you will notice it is 4:00 or
