a chico native leads the green bay packers to it first super bowl win in 42 years. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. the lombardi trophy is headed home tonight. the green bay packers held the steelers in super bowl xlv. the packers raced to a 21-3 lead aided by steelers mistakes.

they held up a furious rally by pittsburgh to win the game 31- 25. aaron rodgers shined on the nfl's at its biggest stage, at its biggest stadium the home of the dallas cowboys. rodgers was named the game's most valuable player. this is green bay's fourth super bowl title. the trophy is named after the legendary packers coach, coach lombardi. >> fans went wild when the packers defeated the steelers. green bay is a famously big football town with a fierce loyalty to its team. these football fans, they probably haven't had as much fun since the packers last won the super bowl. nowhere else in the country were people rooting more for

aaron rodgers than his hometown of chico, california. >> reporter: welcome to chico where with few exceptions the cheering was for hometown hero aaron rodgers. seems like the favorite number now was 12. >> now that we have a star quarterback in the super bowl, everybody that's not even necessarily a packer fan is rooting for the packer fan because it's bringing us pride to this town. >> we had our nail salon run out of gold and green. it's crazy here. >> reporter: reminders of the hometown boy are all over. where the feed store is closed, they have had a big life size plastic horse on display, it's

disappeared more than a week ago in egypt expressed optimism tonight that he would be released by egyptian authorities tomorrow. well gunin has google ventures in egypt. his family says they lost contact with him. this is the first time the government has acknowledged that he had been arrested. dozens again demonstrated in cairo for the 13th straight day. today's protest were emotional but not violent. demonstrators demanded president mubarak's immediate ouster. president mubarak says he can't

resign now. >> everybody is ready is ready to give him out. he is incited to former president of egypt. but he needs to go. >> my own personal opinion is the mubarak era is over, the real question is how to have a process that really works properly. >> reporter: egypt's vice president met with opposition leaders today. he offered several concessions including freedom of the press and the release of protesters under arrest. the vice president calls the talks a first step. there are new details tonight out of iran where the trial of those three berkeley hikers are now on trial. >> reporter: this morning in tyran, two hikers entered a not guilty plea. the press and public were barred from the courtroom.

first weekend in february we are talking about record heat. in fact, here's a look at the old records that you can't see up in the north bay for santa rosa, napa and san francisco, the old record was 71. today the records have shattered that. and some more records to report as well for sfo, oakland airport down toward san jose, the old record was 73. the weather pattern is changing right now. coming up i'll have more on the noticeable temperature changes expected for tomorrow. when gusty winds could return to the bay area hills. san jose police were trying to determine whether a woman who's body was found in a residential area was a victim of foul play. police found the decomposing body wednesday night in south san jose. officials are calling it a suspicious death and the coroner's office is looking into the cause of death. police did not reveal the name,

battling porn from the pulpit. several bay area churches used this super bowl sunday to spark a national discussion on pornography. as ktvu's allie rasmus reports, some exnfl players are sharing their story for the cause. >> reporter: outreach church had the big game on their mind. >> our main focus this sunday is on pornography. >> reporter: this is one of about 300 churches nationwide taking part in a anti pornography church called porn sunday. as part of the campaign, current and former nfl players spoke out about pornography addiction.

>> i was battled with not even wanting to open it up, not even wanting to open e-mails because i knew where it might lead. >> honestly pornography is a big issue for people in the united states. but how people view pornography depends on their political, religious and idealology perspective. >> reporter: but young says the goal is to get people to talk about the issue of pornography in a spiritual setting. it was the topic of this sunday service. >> i think it's a topic that needs to be talked about. >> reporter: these members say it's an issue worth discussing. allie rasmus. a half marathon in san francisco ended tragedy this morning when one of the runners died. a 35-year-old man from arinda ran the 13.5-mile course at a very fast rate then collapsed and died at the finish line. a witness reportedly told the

chronicle that volunteers gave the man cpr and that it took a long time for an ambulance to arrive. police have not released the runner's name and the exact cause of his death is not known. this is what it looked like earlier today when a limousine crashed into a pole after colliding with a cab. police say tonight they have no information on who was at fault in the collision. in all 10 people were hurt in the collision. the man who drove off a cliff yesterday in san mateo county remains in critical condition tonight. it happened about 3:00 yesterday afternoon in pesca derek ro beach. witnesses report seeing that vehicle plunge about 300 feet off the edge. the man's car landed on the beach. a helicopter had to be used to

rescue the man. that crash remains under investigation. oakland police are looking for the public's help after a report that two men kidnapped a woman. the witnesses say the men assaulted a woman and then forced her into a black chrysler with this license plate, 6jfg056 anyone with information is asked to call police. the staff members of the city of walnut creek say the inflatable bounce houses are dangerous. bay area mariners are celebrating a decision by the

u.s. coast guard not to dramatically reduce supervision of alameda's three drawbridges. if the plan had been adopted. the park street, high street and fruitvale districts would only be staffed by tenders from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. the move would have saved $16,000 a year. opponents of the plan said bridge tenders help protect the bridges from crime, terrorism and jumpers. budget cuts may claim yet another casualty. this time it's a popular spot where thousands of rowers, kayakers and canoers from the bay. >> reporter: hannah hayak teaching rowing, but soon she could be out of a job. >> event with the effort everybody is putting in, it's

jlack is just one of the programs on the slashing block. the facility could be managed better and fund raising efforts need to be stepped up especially for the young athletes who can't afford to enjoy the sport on their own. good news today from ford an automotive conference in san francisco, ford executives said they plan to increase production which could mean more hiring. the auto maker says it will beef up production at u.s. plants by 13% in the first quarter thanks to brisk sales. the company is looking at adding shifts that plants that are now running on overtime. u.s. sales for ford vehicles jumped 19.3% in 2010 to 9.3 million. some watched the super bowl for the football, others watch for the commercials. >> reporter: when it comes for coke and pepsi and commercials for vehicles, advertisers were also hoping to score big in the

investigating, the voters are seeking and the mayor is retiring. frank somerville has our special report. >> reporter: the historic town of hercules just south of the straight is roaring with allegations of scandal. a public trust badly beaten. >> not one council person ever asked a question about any of the expenditures. >> reporter: the mayor roughly resigned at a public meeting weeks ago just before he was to be served with recall papers. the recall forces are still after two other members of the city council who refuse to step down. the city council has hired and pushed out two city managers in the last six months. the contra costa county is back investigating again. it may soon have to start

firing city workers and start shutting down city services. >> they signed a blank check. >> reporter: recall leaders such as dan romero says much of the mess started with this simple 6.5 acres. >> i am not going to say they have done something criminal. i don't know. >> reporter: the city council voted to invest this land and then give it for free to a southern california real estate realtor in exchange for his promise to develop it. instead, the project is now dead and the owner is trying to sell his gift. the council voted to sell $4 million to develop condominiums, a shopping center, a train station, even hovercraft coming in from the bay. as you can see after five years, nothing is happening here. across town there's $1.2 million the city council spent for a spectacular sports park that most can now see will

just amazing temperatures for the first weekend of february. the weather pattern right now is changing, as a result you will notice a little bit of a drop in those temperatures for tomorrow. right now on the maps i can show you this on live storm tracker 2. storms way to the north of the state, we will also show you some of the

current temperature, livermore right now is 54 degrees. yesterday at this time livermore was 70. so already changed there. that's a clue that we're going to trim temperatures down quite a bit as we head into your monday. that's after day two of record breaking heat across the bay area for today. once again you can see the very warm numbers, the 80s showing up in santa rosa and napa this afternoon. san francisco 77 and livermore topped out at 73. for tonight clear skies for tomorrow, mostly sunny but a clearing trend that will continue for your monday. dry weather pattern but that could be changes as we do approach the week weekend. this is a pattern that we typically see in august and september with those offshore winds and the increased in the fire danger. this area of low pressure is moving in from the north as a result you can see the dominant trend into monday and into tuesday. by tuesday, no more 70s. warmest locations only approaching the low to mid-60s. still fairly mild out there but

we're not talking about the mayor record breaking heat that will no longer be in our picture by midweek. here we go for tomorrow morning. 7:00 50 degrees. mostly sunny skies, upper 60s to the lower 60s. 57 and 62 degrees. a few high clouds could approach the bay area. then by 4:00 we will call it nice but there's the eventual temperature range 50 to 70. warmest locations could barely touch the 70-degree mark. brentwood 66 and oakland 66 degrees. san francisco no longer the upper 70s, basically in the mid- 60s. san francisco 58 and morganhill tops out right around 61 degrees. here is a look ahead with your five day forecast. you will notice temperatures cooling off a little bit into tuesday and into wednesday. warmest locations on wednesday. essentially in the low 60s: then . then a little bit of a bump in the numbers.

crowd to ever see a super bowl. some impressive numbers on the line. the steelers looking for their record seventh trophy. new hall of famers chris hambergers, shannon sharp, and dion sanders helped with the coin toss.. after the two teams sparred for possession, rodgers to nelson and put it is ball right in the money. it was 7-0. it was a battle between nelson and gay further illustrating how presides this pass had to be. on the first play of the insuing series, roethlisberger was pressured as he threw. the ball hung up for nick collins. collins takes it back 37 yards for the end zone.

the steelers went about reaccomplishing momentum. mendenhal from 8 yards out. suddenly it was 21-17. again came the turnover lesson. the momentum swings again, for the third time the packers gain from their turnovers. and it was 28-17 but the steelers still had an entire quarter to try to turn it around. somehow you knew they would just do that. roethlisberger to mike wallace to cap a 66-yard drive. it was 28-23. and then it was 28-25 the steelers go for two. roethlisberger pitches to el and the two teams are separated by just a field goal. the packers needed to make something happen on their next offensive series and this was a

key play. rodgers finds jennings to the steeler 44. the packers change the chain and keep things going. it was still a one possession game but the steelers would need a touchdown to win. time running down as they face a fourth and five from their own 33. roethlisberger's pass too high for wallace and the packers turn it over. the packers can run off the clock from there as rodgers celebrating his biggest nfl moment ever. and mike mccarthy gets the traditional dousing. the packers are winners, 35-35. and at this point, he spent three years as a understudy to brett favre and has won as many super bowls as his predecessor. >> i told him, in 2008 that i
