bim bim boom ♪ ♪ bim bim yeah. another chapter in the saga. another development tonight in the recovery of an injured giant's fan badly beaten. and traffic shut down in

both directions of the golden gate this evening. >> reporter: take a look behind me. you have one mercedes, on the other side another mercedes and two other vehicles involved in this accident. we shot video a little earlier. that was video that showed exactly how much damage was involved in this accident. it happened in the middle of golden gate bridge at 8:10 p.m. and involved a total of four vehicles here. also involved were a white honda mini van and a scion which has already been taken away by a tow truck. it did tie up traffic a little bit here. the traffic was at an absolute standstill.

that lasted during an alert for the better parking lot of an hour. and we actually saw in some of the video that was shot in this area that people were getting out of their cars. standing around. trying to pass time. chp and all the crews here got all these vehicles off of the golden gate bridge and traffic was autolanes were once again reopened. and now it's all a matter of getting this investigation completely finished and i did just talk to the chp moments ago and they told me that alcohol was a factor in this case. a couple of people were injured in this case. one was taken to sf general. another was taken to another accident in the area. alcohol was a factor so they are checking someone for possibly dui. it started as a sideswipe of one vehicle and that led to another collision.

all of the injuries are said to be minor. john sasaki. injured giant fan bryan stow is closer to coming home. six weeks after he was beaten outside of dodger stadium. and maureen naylor spoke to his family. >> reporter: his family arrived tonight and they came here to the scotts valley grand prix to give appreciate for the support. >> we had to leave l.a. who's been amazing to us but we get to come home. and we get to bring bryan home. so it was bittersweet. >> reporter: tomorrow her 42- year-old brother will be taken by medical jet from l.a.x.

to sfo then the san francisco trauma center. stow's mother says the first priority will be stabilizing him after the trip. >> hopefully that will be within a day or two so we're going to be excited about that and start his recovery. that's what we were hoping for. >> reporter: while stow is still in a coma, she says that he is responding. while wearing his son's giant hat, bryan's dad finally saw the clothing he was wearing that day.

>> i just want my friend back, but i don't think that's going to be immediate. >> reporter: reporting live in scotting valley, maureen naylor. francisco police are turning to surveillance video in their investigation to the killing of a 47-year-old man. the man seen here purchased items with funds with williams bank account. police say they also have the man on camera withdrawing williams money from a bank and an atm. police are calling the man a person of interest. no arrests tonight in a triple shooting yesterday outside a san francisco housing project. ktvu's debra sreu ha loan reports now where residents describe it as a gang shoot out that left two people dead. our guys that lived here were taking off their jackets were getting ready to fight fist to fist. witnesses describe how two

worrying groups clashed saturday at sunset. first with fists, then guns leaving two men 21 and 26 dead. >> the boy that was killed, he grew up here in the projectings. he was a good young man. and his parents were devastated. for what? for the bravado of gangs. >> reporter: police aren't calling it gang related and this area isn't known for much gang violence but stories are circulating. >> he was getting harassed, their son was getting harassed and he called his friend from the tenderloin to come over and help fix the problem. >> reporter: both of the victims and the man wounded are asian. police swarmed the building and corralled them, but the men were not detained. >> there's no word on any arrests at this time. >> reporter: as police watched the area, neighbors worry about retaliation. families had to dive hearing

gunfire. >> several people here were having like a party, and all the people went down on the floor. >> reporter: even daylight offers only so much protection. >> i love this neighborhood but you just always have to watch out. >> reporter: the shoot out had its start hours earlier around noon when the two groups almost fought on the street but sattered when police came. the brawl later turned much more deadly. in san francisco, debra villalon. vallejo police later say the man who was shot died at

the hospital. officers responding to the bay club apartments last night found the 24-year-old san francisco man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. he was sitting in the back of a black lexus parked in a carport. authorities haven't yet released the victim's name. new at 10:00 tonight, a shocking discovery at a north bay community radio station. someone had written racist graffiti on the building. ktvu's john sasaki has this report from vallejo where this was addressed in an emergency meeting. >> i see this attached on my door. >> no one stands a chance with [ bleep ] >> reporter: the radio's executive director showed us where someone wrote graffiti with the word several times. >> we're a new broadcaster in an area that's never had at least in a long time had a

voice for the community. >> reporter: marcus son removed the graffiti and said labeling the station as a station that only plays rap is wrong. >> half of our staff is black. the other half is asian or something, you know. >> reporter: katherine's quarter is a sunday afternoon show. >> would you like to learn how to grow your own food? then go to the garden club meeting. >> reporter: vallejo police say they have no leads. >> we would appreciate the public's help if they saw somebody do this or if they saw any similar incidents in their business. we would like to get a call from them. >> reporter: they decided to hold an open house sometime soon to let the community see what they are all about. in vallejo, i'm john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news.

the today's 100th annual beta breakers race had more rules but just as much fun. it was ladies first at the elite women took off, then a few seconds later the men on the race . there were plenty of wacky costumes, naked runners who we're not permitted to show you of course. and lots of enthusiasm. coming up later, we'll let you know just who won this race today. as we've been reporting new rules, we'll put into place this year changes were made in the beta breakers. the story is coming up in just a few minutes. fast moving storms race throughout the bay area today bringing short bursts of heavy rain followed by sunshine and sometimes hail. looks like the midwest but that

way in the small community of butte la rose. people there left their home with sadness and optimism. >> this has been a steady rise. people were prepared. on the flip side of it it's still heartbreaking to watch your house go under the water slowly. every day you lose a little bit more of your life. >> reporter: it's expected to take three days for the water to flow 20 miles south into the swampland which drains into the gulf of mexico. the san jose sharks may be in the finals

>> reporter: no baseball or basketball in canada, it's only the canucks. >> i just think it's our time. we got the experience last year getting to the semi full-times. i f inalless. f inals. i think it's time. >> game two wednesday night. for the first time in the six year history of the tour of california, the first stage of the race was cancelled today. a snowstorm in the sierras spelled disappointment for the event. race officials said it just wasn't safe enough for the cyclists. questions remain tonight about tomorrow's second stage. that's when cyclists are scheduled to ride from squall

valley to sacramento. that ride includes a time over squall pass which was closed for a time today. the crew was on its way to a car crash when it came on a section of road lined with olive trees. >> this time of year there's a lot of olives falling from the trees. you mix the olives with the rain and you have a pretty slippery situation. >> reporter: the passenger side door of the ambulance was left hanging. the driver of the ambulance was injured. county work crews were able to get all those olives off the roadway. oakland firefighters had their hands full this morning not fighting flames but with

lots and lots of water. the impact dislodged the hydrant sending water 20 feet into the air. firefighters had to walk through waste water. they were able to shut off the valve. the governor will keep calming for tax extensions. brown and his crew have spent the weekend highlighting their proposals. republican lawmakers say unexpected tax collections make the extensions unnecessary. incoming revenues are up by an estimated $2.5 billion. officially the state still faces a $15.4 billion shortfall. there is information tonight that governor brown is planning to crack down on state employees who bank hours and hours of vacation time and then cash those hours in when they retire. according to an analysis by the l.a. times about 300 state workers

who retired last year had accumulated more than 80 days of vacation pay. now employees are not supposed to bank more than 80 days but can do so when it's deemed critical to the state. a retired prison doctor cashed in 2.5 years of unused vacation when he retired walking away with more than $500,000. $618 million and several false starts, the newest and possibly safest hospital in california opened its doors. ktvu's patti lee was there when all of the patients were transferred to the new area. >> reporter: one by one, each patient was moved to the new peninsula medical center. >> i'm telling you, it's a big deal. >> reporter: williams smith was one of the 110 patients moved

every eight minutes or so. three -week-old vanessa wong another. >> it'll be interesting to tell her she was one of the first patients to be moved. >> reporter: it is in compliance with the state mandate that requires hospitals to retrofit or rebuild to meet earthquake standards by 2030. >> i would venture to says the the safest hospital in the state. we are very close to the san andreas fault. >> reporter: there were also computer stations for electronic record sharing. even the air is different. >> none of the air is recycled. so all the air that comes in the hospital is exhausted so that it isn't rebreathed by someone else. >> reporter: patient williams smith says the bells and whistles don't matter much to him. >> mainly what you look for

when you're in the hospital is continued care. >> reporter: this old hospital will be demolished floor by floor and turned into a parking lot. the hospital may also add another helopad because this new hospital was built on top of the old one.patti lee. the man who just days ago was leading in presidential polls in now heading our planes start flying when it's dark.

meanwhile a thug boat is hauling a massive container to hold radio active water. the container was a fishing platform that has been reconfigured to hold the waste. at least four people were killed by israeli army gunfire during a protest between the israel border and gaza. there were also clashes in the west bank. the massive demonstrations were held to protest the founding of israel on this date in 1948. israel's defense ministry says the protesters were trying to cross israel's border. queen elizabeth's trip to ire ran ireland will be the

location, location, location, the saying often used in real estate can be applied to bay area crime numbers. in tonight's special report, ktvu's eric rasmussen talked to residents who live in some of the most dangerous neighborhoods and to police who patrol them. >> reporter: on a friday night along international boulevard in oakland -- >> what's going on down there? >> a fight i guess. >> reporter: police are already busy and it's barely 11:00.

we drove between 64th and 98th avenue. the statistics show these streets are arguably the most dangerous in oakland. over the last five years, the two police beats that cover this area recorded more than 1,800 incidents of violent crime such as assault, rape and homicide. >> it ain't nothing new but kids don't have anything to do. it's babies killing babies. >> reporter: drew drake said he grew up here. >> then i lived my life and hope it's not my number time. but it's violence out there. >> reporter: you say it's violent, what do you see in is. >> people get robbed, just all type of [ bleep ], anything can happen to you >> reporter: about half an hour later, police say a man was found shot in his car and later died. he was the fourth man in oakland killed in one week. then we found a block that seemed like it wouldn't be the

city's most dangerous at first glance. >> you know people will rob you in the daytime. in the daytime. >> reporter: vietnam vet freddy wright says he was 45 victims of street robbery last year in this single block between mission and valencia. >> i wasn't surprised that it happened. i really wasn't. >> reporter: you had to be scared for your safety. >> i was scared, i sure was, i was scared. >> reporter: aggravated assault, rape and murder accounted for 155 violent crimes in this area. it has for some on guard. >> reporter: you worry about your fifth grader walking through here every day? >> of course, of course. so his dad and me are just making sure that he's picked up and just not spending extra time here. >> reporter: we were there when police stopped and searched the car of a man on felony probation for drugs. >> we keep at it. it's a struggle. >> reporter: lieutenant jim

balane worked this beat for 30 years. he says drugs fuel the crowd here, and under cover cops patrol the area. >> we need the support of the community. people, the merchants, other people, the law-abiding folks step up, be able to come guard and say, that's the guy who's selling dope -- come forward and say, that's the guy who's selling dope. that's the guy who committed the crime. >> reporter: in 2010 there were 240 assaults in just this area. the community members throughout the bay area say it's all the more reason to rally to take back their neighborhoods and to keep faith in a turn around from dimming any further. eric rasmussen. a bill in the state senate

would force new privacy rules on websites such as facebook. on most social media sites, a users personal information can be seen by everyone. websites would have to protect a person's privacy unless or until the user chooses to make the information public. violators would be fined $10,000. opponents say the law could force social media sites to leave california. san francisco police worked hard to reduce crimes this year. 17 people were arrested for public intoxication. three for assault and four were arrested for burglary. one of the most serious incidents took place at party on lion's street. police say a 30-year-old man became so intoxicated that he

fell off the roof. he's in serious condition tonight. police shut down the party there but we're told rowdy crowds continued to hang out in that area for several hours. the beta breakers race runs through 17 different san francisco neighborhoods but not all of those neighbors look forward to the event. ktvu's allie rasmuss explains some of the rules put in place to try to tame the race. >> reporter: along with the cheering crowds and crazy costumes, there were more police on the rout. no alcohol and no floats allow. the changes came after neighbors complained about the race getting out of hand in the past. it had reached the point where it felt like a frat party gone bad. >> there's neighborhood people who want to keep the eye out and that's what we're here to

do. >> reporter: organizers set up more porta potties and they set up signs to direct racers. the crowd is moving through the alamo square avenue were actually moving. >> we had enormous spill over, people urinating on everyone's first steps. the fact that people are moving forward and see our signs to the toilets and that they are using the toilets is really great. >> reporter: despite the new rules we did find runners carrying bottles. but this runners says the changes did not change his experience of the beta breakers. >> all for one man who won in today's race it was a chance to celebrate life.

wrong with today's forecast. we had sunshine, clouds, rain showers, hail, thunderstorms even some snow. at least the showers have been diminishing in coverage quite a few in the last few hours as you can see on tracker 2. but we still have some storms to talk about in the next 48 hours. you can see a few spotty showers, very light up in parts of the north bay closing in on marin county. and out toward the santa cruz mountains closing in on monterey. look at the over all story for tonight. rainfall develops. if you've been wanting your forecast. partly cloudy skies and temperatures warming up a bit. you can see the lowest location in the low 40s with napa and santa rosa. santa rosa 42, san francisco 49 and livermore starting out monday morning in the lower 40s. here is our next storm developing out here in the

pacific and this will be the biggest factor as you head into your monday. this was the pattern for today. the cold area of low pressure was in place. that probably had the unsettled pattern for today. this is moving out pretty much right now. and that will set the stage for another storm to move in for tomorrow. rainfall develops, winds increase out of the south could be gusting to right about 35 to 40 miles per hour. strongest near the immediate shoreline and when this front moves in you will definitely notice its presence. because rainfall rates will be picking up by mid- to late afternoon. we will show you forecast model coming up in just a bit. this begins 4:00 tomorrow afternoon until 10:00 p.m. tuesday. we could be talking about more snow on the order of six to 12- inches. more significant snow expected in the sierra into tuesday. here's our forecast model tomorrow. chance of a shower 12, by 1:00 look what happened by the
