water. it was a civilian who finally recovered the body and brought it to shore. alameda's mayor says she does not want to see this happen again and they do plan to launch an independent investigation. in alameda, janna katsuyama, ktvu, channel 2 news. >> new at 10, the results of a crucial vote by san francisco muni operators, the union members have rejected a contract offer. the muni operators voted 2-1 to reject the tentative agreement their union leaders have recommended. the directors of the municipal transportation agency says he is very disappointed. an arbitrator will now step in and negotiate a contract that can happen as soon as next week and the arbitrator's decision would be final. here are some of the elements of their rejected contract. muni said it would have saved $38 million over the next three years. operator salaries would have remained at their current levels.

management would have been able to eliminate built-in overtime and the contracts would also have revised grievance and disciplinary procedures. new details emerged today about a person of interest in the disappearance of bay area missing student michelle lee. the 26-year-old disappeared on may 27th. hayward police considered the case a homicide. officers initially questioned a former female roommate of lees about her disappearance. now a former boyfriend of that woman is talking about a disturbing incident from last year. >> she has a very, very short temper. and when she flies off the handle, she really flies off the handle. she got up and she had a leg on either side and was sitting on my chest and then was strangling me. >> the woman in question was a friend of lee's when they were in high school in san diego. so far we should stress here hayward police have not named anyone as a suspect. the chp is trying to determine why a man is attempting to cross highway 101 earlier today when hit by a

car. he was struck shortly before 3:00 in palo alto near the oregon expressway. the medical examiner's office identified him as 63-year-old sydney brown of south san francisco. the driver of the car that hit and killed him was not cited or arrested. a commuter train struck and killed a man in burlinggame this afternoon. it happened at 12:20 this afternoon. caltrans was interrupted for the next 30 minutes. a bus bridge was then set up between the caltrans and millbray stations. the death appeared to be a suicide. it is the 8th fatality on caltran am tracks earlier this year. >> i am sorry many of the fire department are making preparations for tomorrow's wake and friday's funeral for two firefighters who died in service to the city. the funeral for vincent perez and anthony valerio will take place 12:00 on friday afternoon. it will have a procession to

fight but no victims and no arrests. a 17-year-old accused of firing multiple shots into a car last weekend and killing a three-month-old baby boy appeared in court today and was arraigned as an adult. sackian zargoza did not enter a plea today. the shooting happened in palo alto. he was with another teenager when he opened fire on a car with a family of four inside. prosecutors say the crime justifies charging him as an adult. >> i'm only six months away from majority, adulthood. and this crime was particularly callous, heinous and the death of a three-month-old the most innocent of victims is unimaginable. >> the police say he mistook the family for gang members who recently beat him up. the family and friends of the suspect says he does not belong to a gang. >> the la police department is transferring the bryan stow

beating case to it's elite robbery homicide unit. la said they made the move because the case is so complex. robbery homicide handles high profile cases such as the death of michael jackson. so far officers have made one arrest in the case and that suspect is being held on a parole violation and has not been charged in connection with the stow beating. an administrative law judge today granted a request by pg&e to give it more time to find records about flaws in natural gas pipelines. the california public utility commissions had ordered pg&e to come up with that information by june 20th. pg&e now has until september 30th to find the paperwork. the utility is already facing a $3 million fine for failing to give the cpuc other records about its gas pipelines in the wake of last year's deadly explosion and fire in sanbruno. and as ktvu consumer editor tom vacar tells us, federal investigators are saying pg&e is not responding fast enough to their demands for information. >> reporter: the head of the

ntsb said certain pg&e records demanded months ago about the pipeline that exploded are too slow in coming, especially the most recent one. >> there was a record that they had a leak that was repaired in 1988. it occurred nine miles south of this location. >> i am very dismayed to find that at this late date pg&e is providing the ntsb with what is really critical information. >> we do not know why pg&e did not provide this information to our investigators. i think that's a question that you would have to ask pg&e. >> so we asked pg&e about the leak which it says was small repaired 23 years ago. >> we discovered this document about a leak online 132 in 1988 around may 20th will. we thought it might be relevant to the ntsb's investigation so we shared it with them immediately. >> reporter: the more records may come to light. >> we are literally using hundreds of employees to comb through millions of documents that are throughout our service area and stored in local offices throughout our service area. >> reporter: ntsb also

killing, jurors are deciding if bay and macky are guilty of two other homicides as well. the bicyclist was struck and killed by a hit and run driver on a well-traveled bike route right near the uc santa cruz campus. maureen naylor spoke to neighbors who tell her it is not the safeist place to ride a bike particularly when it is dark. >> reporter: a twisted bick will sat in the back of a chp patrol car this afternoon as officers collected measurements and launched an investigation to find a hit and run driver. a 25-year-old santa cruz man died here along empire grade road after being hit by a vehicle late last night or early this morning. >> but it appears at this time from what we can determine so far that he was catapulted at some sort off his bicycle. >> reporter: chp says no helmet was found at the scene located a half mile from the west entrance to uc santa cruz. bike lanes are clearly marked along this bike route traveled by many students. >> it is hard to stop going

. the huge wildfire burning in the eastern part of arizona is moving towards power lines that supply electricity to hundreds of thousands of people. the fire has burned almost 400,000-acres. firefighters say unless the weather changes and high winds die down, the fire will continue to spread. thousands of people have been forced from their homes. berkeley fire investigators are calling two fires highly unusual and highly suspicious. firefighters responded to the two fires on craigmont avenue

just minutes apart early this morning. ktvu's heather holmes is live in berkeley and learned that a third fire may be connected. heather? >> i am told that that third fire also happened about the same time just at the hill here on euclet avenue. it was small and the homeowner was able to put it out. the homeowner here also tried to fight the flames but with no success as they had already engulfed this station wagon. a charred frame is all that's left of the 1994 mercedes that investigators suspect was intentionally set ablaze early this morning. >> and it was just fire all over here. >> reporter: she and her husband were sleeping when they heard a loud pop. both came 0 outside to friend their car and garage door on fire. they grabbed this garden hose to try to quench the flames before they spread. >> well, it is scary for not only me but everybody else around. >> reporter: as firefighters were on their way flames 12 feet high were jumping up the stucco wall of another house on

at 105. no word on how much money may have been taken from the bank. we now know the identity of the bank robbery suspect who san francisco police killed last night. the coroner has now identified him as 25-year-old joshua smith. police say officers fired on smith when he tried to run them over. the fbi says smith is believed to be the so-called again-x bandit wanted for two bank robberies in southern california. you got the nickname because as you see he was wearing a beanie and a flannel shirt. workers have removed 30 controversial headstones that had a racial slur graffitied on them. they mark the graves of african american pioneers and included the "n" word. someone stoled two of the markers. county supervisors decided to replace the remaining headstones. >> i am very disappointed that somebody would desecrate a site like this. >> reporter: county officials hope to have the replacement headstones in place by july
