amber alert was arrested. police say he was involved in a robbery on west 18th street. we've also been told a second suspect has been arrested but that second individual's identity has not been released. yesterday afternoon the barber shop was burglarized and he appeared to be kidnapped. >> i said are you involved. he said no that man robbed me like he robbed you. i said okay where did he take you. and he said he took me to lone street, and if i were to turn around and look around he would shoot me in the back. >> reporter: we will continue to cover his story with his twists and turns. it's not exactly what charges brown faces. they thought they would never get it back.

tonight the family of the fisherman who disappeared in mexico now has his tackle box. amber lee is live in san ramon with the unlikely story of how the fisherman's belongings made it home and are giving his family home. patti lee has the story. >> reporter: we are in san ramon at one of the restaurants that is holding fundraisers for the lees. >> oh my gosh, that is daddies. >> reporter: lee and six friends went missing when their fishing boat capsized. >> i'm also very thankful that whomever found this just kept it all intact for us so it means the world to us. it was so important to have something of his. i need it so much.

and it's just so hard for me to just, i just can't give up. i need him back with me. >> reporter: the fuller's told us several mexican fishermen found the tackle box and recognized don lee's name on the box and gave it to the caretakers home in san felipe. from there the fuller's found the lees on find our fathers. >> they didn't know these people, they made the effort to come up in their net. they found somebody who could bring it 80 miles to san felipe. >> it means the world to us, all of a sudden it doesn't feel so lonely. all of a sudden there feels like there's been hope. >> reporter: back here live, these are the receipts from today's proceeds, 25% will go

toward helping the missing fisherman's families. amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. new video tonight firefighters out for a national night out event rolled up on a house fire in santa clara this evening. the fire broke out around 7:00 on augusta drive. when crews got there there was heavy smoke coming out of the front and roof of the home. crews were able to put the fire out quickly. there were concerns fires could spread to other homes but firefighters were able to put it out before it crossed the fence. firefighters consoled the homeowner and were able to rescue her dog. police got in a while chase where a suspect entered the freeway going the wrong direction. the suspect made it on 580 without hitting anyone and made it into a san leandro neighborhood. police found the buick regal a short time later on durant. police brought in search dogs but were not able to find the

curve violence now that 30 police officers are returning to their job. >> we're going to make police sweeps to make a change in the community. >> reporter: chief batts says he has a message to the criminals, he says they should know police are coming. one of san jose's heaviest crime areas was the spot for a national night out event this evening. they are expected to have the largest turn out. san jose laid off police officers, residents say they hope these gathering can motivate residents to get involved. in east palo alto, the tragedy there has galvanized the community against crime. a truck driver is in the hospital after a propane tank exploded during an evening night out event. firefighters say they are not sure what caused the propane

tank to malfunction. they said the victim a man in his 30s suffered second and third degree burns on his arms. he was taken to uc davis medical center for treatment. firefighters in hayward rushed to contain a fire that burned in the hayward hills. the fire burned directly southeast of the golf and country club on fair view avenue. firefighters received the call shortly after 2:00. helicopter contained the fire by about 2:30. the flames burned 5 acres. it appears someone using a weed wacker sparked the fire. no one was hurt. the nation's debt crisis was -- averted. the senate passed the bill after a battle. president obama signed the bill in private. afterward he said much more needs to be done to curve spending including higher taxes on the wealthy.

>> everybody is going to have to chip in. it's only fair. that's the principal i'll be fighting for after this process. >> reporter: the bill cuts spending by more than $2 trillion over 10 years. it also sets up a bipartisan panel of lawmakers to find more cuts in the federal budget. california's two senators, dianne feinstein and barbara boxer both voted in favor of the bill. both said it was far from perfect but not passing it would mean an economic catastrophe. despite a debt deal, the dow was down 260 points. it's worse day in more than two months -- logging its worse day in more than two months. and the nasdaq was down 75 points. patti lee is in san francisco on how the bill is changing the way people live. >> reporter: you can see pedestrians are getting a work out but not necessarily their wallet. for the first time in two years

this june consumers have cut down on spending. a warning sign that the economy may be slowing. union square is packed with would be consumers like don carson an her mother who were too worried about the economy to spend freely. >> it's just killing, killing everyone in my family with how, how bad the stock market has gone down. >> reporter: the stock market's sharp decline was triggered by a series of weak economic reports. on income, poor earnings from companies and on consumer spending. >> today's drop was significant. over 2% in the mayor indexes and some of the indexes are negative for the year now which is the first time we've seen that in a while. >> reporter: money manager says with the debt deal down investors refocused on the economy and didn't like what they saw. >> i think that's what everybody is concerned about the potential for the double dip. >> great.

have prevented the kidnapping of jaycee dugard. >> reporter: the man who sent phillip garrido to prison for life said today law enforcement failed to see garrido for what and who he truly is, evil. >> there are unquestionably other victims. how many we don't know. >> reporter: and he released this video to show just how evil. >> that light is on. >> i don't know anything about that camera. >> reporter: after their arrest, garrido's wife nancy told an investigator that at least 10 times in 1993 she lured little girls into their van to tape them for her husband. >> you were supposed to sit down next to them, play nice. sound interested and somehow coax them into moving around so they could be video taped. >> right. >> reporter: here you hear nancy garrido asking an unknown five-year-old girl to do the split so she can video tape it. >> like this. >> that's it.

numerous inferences that garrido broke several parol rules. that was just a fraction of the full report. we posted a link of all 162 pages on our website. you can find it under the dugard tap on ktv,.com. an accident at the b.a.r.t. station has left a woman fighting for her life tonight. it happened at the civic center b.a.r.t. station. a 51-year-old woman fell about 20 feet trying to jump on to a ledge. she was taken to the hospital with life threatening injuries. witnesses say the woman was wobbling before she fell. there's no word on whether alcohol or drugs were involved. a judge today ruled a 40- year-old man accused of running down four bicyclists in san francisco last year must stand trial for attempted murder. an attorney for david mark clark of albany says clark intends to plead not guilty by

reason of insanity. last june 2nd, clark swerved his suv several times and aimed at the bicyclists before hitting them. all four bicyclists survived but suffered serious injuries including broken legs. during a taped police interview following his arrest. mark said he had been hallucinating and hearing voices. in buehrleing game, police held a meeting on tests it's conducting -- pg & e is held meetings on tests it's conducting on pipelineless. so far of the nearly 40 miles tested pg & e says no leaks have been found. but crews are under the gun to get the tests finished before wint. >> every time we do a hydrotest, we have to get a piece of pipeline out of service. it has to be done before it gets too cold so we can serve people reliably.

an anti trust investigation of google is growing in europe. roiters says nine companies have accused google of anti trust. google is accused of demoting those companies sites because those companies companies -- companies were rivals. a similar investigation is going on here in the united states. officials say the deals for now come from living social, that's another daily deal site invested in by amazon. the website says it will soon come up with deals on its own. we have an update now on netflix and its plans to expand. many los gatos residents were opposed saying a five story

building would ruin views. netflix plans to add senior housing on the site. truth in advertising conflicts usually involves retail businesses accused of trying to miss lead customers. as jana katsuyama tells us, abortion is at the center of this case in san francisco. >> reporter: the rst resort egnancy center is in a prominent building in san francisco. dennis herr era issued first resort of resorting to false advertising to lure pregnant women into their office. >> there's been a pattern of deception and misleading women. >> reporter: herr era says his office investigated first resort. they found that first resort paid for google web advertising that would put them on the top if someone searched for abortion in san francisco. the first resort website includes a page on abortion procedures, but the city

a new kind of taxi camera is being credited for helping san francisco police nab a suspected robber. >> reporter: it is a shocking attack. surveillance video shows a woman grabbed from behind and robbed of her cell phone. but the story end with a high tech twist. >> a cab driver came next to

her and offered her assistance. we were able to track him where he was going. he notified our dispatch. >> reporter: the cab driver and the suspect followed the suspect. that's where police arrested 20- year-old brandon west of san francisco on robbery charges. it was all documented on these new $500 cameras luxor cab is installing in 250 vehicles. the cameras record both the backseat and the driver street view mainly to capture fender benders. but police love the technology too. >> with these new set of eyes that we have, you know it captures images and it would assist officers with investigations when crimes like this occur. >> reporter: the aclu of northern california says it has general concerns about privacy rights and police use of surveillance video including how it's stored and sheared. for now san francisco police call the -- and how it's shared. for now san francisco police

the deadly salmonella outbreak that appears to be linked to ground turkey. the latest victim may have been from california. >> reporter: the popular hamburger meat alternative is under fire. now that the centers for disease control has linked it to one death in california and six other cases throughout the country. >> does it concern me? yes, certainly. >> reporter: health officials have been searching for the source of the outbreak since march. but as of tonight, there's still no recall. >> this is an ongoing investigation and we haven't got our arms completely around it yet. >> reporter: but a report says health officials have found three different sources of tainted turkey just none that

will create more jobs. maureen naylor. a bay area congresswoman wants 911 dispatchers across the country to be able to receive text messages and images from cell phones. representative anna shu cosponsored a bill to create 911 systems. the police department is looking to purchase a similar system next year. a community group is placing these park mobiles around the buena garden. the portable gardens were unveiled tonight at an event on mission street. officials plan to put the plant mobiles in spots then move them to draw people to places with few foot traffic.

new video of fire tonight at bay fair mall in san leandro. the fire broke out around 7:00 this evening in the common area between macy's and kohl's. firefighters say they closed off the area while they contained the flames but the fire was burning into the ceiling. firefighters say it appears the fire started as an electrical

fire. the mall is expected to open tomorrow as usual. the municipal transportation agency voted this afternoon to add 87 new taxis to the city's 1,500 vehicle fleet. 50 permits were allocated for part time taxis and another five for full time cabs. the board also voted to raise taxi fares. the base fare is increasing 40- cents to $3.50. a five minute ride cost $3.30 more. the new rates will result in drivers making an extra $600 on a typical day. riders started in santa clara and raveled more. the trip will end september 11th at the brooklyn bridge.

arrested then released on bail. no one has been formally charged. and in france, toxic seeed is turning up on beaches along the atlantic coast. it's been found at 200 locations popular with summer vacationers. experts warn it can give up a chemical that can be deadly. several wild boors have been found dead. it is believed the seaweed is multiplying rapidly. the diver found a body 255 feet down off of rubicon point on west tahoe's west shore last month. authorities pulled the body dressed in diving gear from the body last week. they are now using dental records to try to make a positive investigation. donor windecker disappeared while scuba diving in the area back in july of 2004.

according to the business times, hotel business is up 97% from last year. the rest of california is also doing well with a 78% occupancy rate. a sacramento man said a copy of the paper appeared outside his hotel room and he assumed it was free. but harmon says he was charged. and harmon says he suspects the hotel is making a lot from the unwanted papers. owner linda becker told ktvu today -- shop owner linda becker told ktvu she is fed up with shoplifters. last year she lost $10,000 in lost merchandise. >> this one we just found the
