30 american troops are dead after their helicopter was apparently shot down in afghanistan. most of them were navy s.e.a.l.s. >> president obama expressed sorrow at the loss of 30 american troops including navy s.e.a.l. commanders killed during a night mission in afghanistan. it is the deadliest attack in the nearly decade long war. the taliban is taking credit.

>> a helicopter like the one seen here crashes killing 30 american service members in the eastern part of the country. most of them were u.s. navy s.e.a.l.s belonging to team six. the unit involved in the raid that killed bin laden. the president was briefed on the tragedy and issued a statement saying their deaths are a reminder of the sacrifices made by the men and women of our military and their families. the taliban claims it downed the helicopter with rocket fire. nato confirming there was enemy activity in the area at the time of the crash. >> they have skill sets, they have is capability to point a grenade at a helicopter and even at night to bring that helicopter down if they're close enough to it.

pakistan. many supplies are trucked through pakistan into afghanistan. >> family and trends of the berkeley grad are waiting the verdict in their trial that conclude one week ago. he said he hopes the verdict will lead to the release of shane and josh. they have been held on spy charges now for more than two years. the two say they accidentally crossed while hiking at a rock along with their friend who was freed last year. as soon as we have any update we will bring it to you. americans may be on edge tonight as the u.s. faces it's first ever credit downgrade by a key ratings agency. it's unclear how the downgrade will effect the government and ordinary citizens. some experts expect higher interest rates if investors decide to sell off u.s. treasuries. they blamed the broken

political system and the nation's fiscal plan but says the news shouldn't come as a surprise. >> we've been writing about this since 2005. we have been clear in our analysis and where the concerns are. i don't think anyone can be taken by surprise by the action that we took. >> the u.s. can regain the triple a rating but say it will take time. republican presidential candidate michelle bauchmann was quick to last president obama today for the downgrade in the credit rating. >> not once did any president ever lose our triple a credit rating, not once despite all of this adversity have we ever lost that rating and now for the first time since 1917 the united states, last night, lost that credit rating. bauchmann predicted that interest rates will rise as a result.

tense moments in a west oakland neighborhood this afternoon as police searched for a shooting suspect. it unfolded around 4:30 this afternoon at 32nd and helen street. residents said shots were coming from a home that's also a daycare center. officers shut down 32nd street. there you see him right there.

he came out peacefully and surrendered to police. a $15,000 reward is being offered tonight for a gun machine that opened fire on two innocent bystanders. the two women were in the wrong place at the wrong time. >> reporter: shards of car window glass are on the street. reminisces of the deadly shooting that happened at 1:30 this morning. >> they were in a dispute, they began shooting each other and innocent bystanders were shout in the cross fire. >> they were visiting the area from antioch and were heading to a club in san francisco. >> you don't believe these were the target. >> not at all. they're definitely innocent bystanders. wrong place at the wrong time. >> after the car was sprayed with gun fire, it slammed into

all three were pulled over of the cliff. the approximate bodies of the two others have not yet been found. the coast guard is working to find the missing sailor from the east bay. the man you see here, of concord began sailing to san diego almost two weeks ago. his son contacted officials when he couldn't reach his father on the phone. >> during a curfew sweep last night police picked up 35 minors. they were taken to the police department and released to their families. reach product, a youth intervention group participated to help counsel the teens. the sweep included a house party as well as typical hang out spots such as parks. in richmond a baptist church and one of america's biggest companies teamed up to

dry oklahoma is fighting off wild fires tonight. the worse is outside tulsa where 4,000 acres have now burned. another fire north of oklahoma city reignited and caused a stretch of interstate 35 to shut down. dozens of families have had to evacuate their homes. the governor banned burning across the state as it deals with triple digit temperatures. firefighters are close to containing a wild fire that has burned close to 650 acres. the fire started wednesday in a remote area. tonight, it is 90% contained with full containment expected for tomorrow. they're still working to figure out the cause. >> in london a protest turned into a riot. the evening began with

protestors marching to a police station to protest the death of a father of 4 that was killed in what police say was a shoot out with police. the violence started when protestors through bottles at a police car. several cars and a bus were set on fire. from kenya, a story of hope in a sea of dispair. doctors say this 7 month old baby appears as if he will survive just ten days after his mother brought him to a refugee camp on the brink of death. more than 29,000 children under the age of 5 died in the last three months alone. firefighters with drew from all of their bases in the capitol. the un backed government says that should allowed a agencies better access to refugees who have come to the city to escape famine. >> they took to the streets to protest the rising cost of
