blamed the wild moves on wall street by electronic trading which moves large volumes of stock. the executive directer of uc berkely's master of engineering program says computer trading does contribute to some volatility, but it's not the cause. >> you can have large volumes, but that doesn't mean that you actually have the high volatility. >> certainly, contributed to problems last spring when it peaked, and we had that flash crash. we still have the infrastructure in place for that. but something has to trigger it. the uncertainty, the volatility. >> reporter: he believes the debt problems in europe, which now include france was behind today's wealth destroying downturn. bow now, stocks are on sale. >> personally, i think it's a great buying opportunity. i think you look for days like

this. >> reporter: the new jobless climes numbers are supposed to be released tomorrow and on friday. it could send this already volatile market in either direction. reporting live in san francisco, patty lee, ktvu, channel 2 news. more details now, the latest numbers from the asian markets are mixed. tokyo's nikkei is down. china's shanghai market is up slightly. but less than 1%. a new poll shows americans currently have little faith in the nation's economic future. according to the reuters poll, 73% of americans say the u.s. is on the wrong track. just 21% say the country is headed in the right direction. nearly half of those polled expect the worst is yet to come. 43% say they expect the economy to remain stable, but not improve. apple today, became the most valuable company in the

today. their number was small, four people. their concern, great. >> we haven't stopped. we won't stop. >> reporter: the boy's foster father told police, he briefly left the child in the car, to go inside an oakland shoe store. when he returned, the boy was gone. police didn't believe the story, arrested the foster parents for murder. then released them for lack of evidence. hasany was never found. >> based on the investigation, i file that hasany campbell met now fowl play at the hands of lewis ross. >> one day, lewis ross will meet his maker and have so serve justice for what's been done to hasany. >> reporter: but the daughter who advised the foster parents says -- >> i hope they weren't involved. >> reporter: both women remain committed to finding justice

for a little boy, they say few people seem to care about. >> there is still a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person involved in the disappearance of hasany campbell. several called on the district to fire two school police officers involved in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old man. >> being picked off, one at a time, i'm very scared. >> the protesters rallied before the march, they're upset over the january 27th shooting of brown jr. the school board has defended the officers. protesters say the investigation has not been fully transparent. firefighters say they're still trying to figure out what sparked this evening as grass fire in the hills above

vallejo. it burned between columbus parkway and the hidden park golf course. firefighters were able to put the fire out within an hour and a half. in all about seven acres burned. to the south, where a wildfire burning out of control tonight in santa barbara county. so far, it's covered about 200 acres in the elyseo canyon area. at this point, no structures are threatened. the santa barbara fire crews asked help from crews at a nearby airspace. louis sanchez, and marvin norwood are charged with mayhem, assault, and battery and other charges. they're held on a half million dollars bail each. police say they attacked bryan stow in the parking lot of dodger stadium back on opening day. prosecutors say both sanchez, and norwood have made

admissions in the case. meantime, bryan stow's family is offering some encouraging news. they said brian was able to raisest left leg slightly, and raise his left arm. his sister says the best part, when one asked him for a kiss, he turned his head and puckered his lips. they did it each time they asked. the mayor race has heated up, ever since ed lee entered the race this week. some residents don't like it. they recall lee was briefed in a core up in the castro theater, both night and outside. when he agreed to be interim mayor, lee said he would not run for office, but then he changed his mind. some members of the chinese community met today to discuss the criticism. community leaders say the attacks will only divide

chinese voters. organizers of this year's outside land festival say they're gearing up for truly massive crowds. >> we're going to sellout all three days. that's 60,000 people a day. >> reporter: crews spent today assembling the main stage and perfecting the sound system. >> big rock bands like muse, or a dj like girl talk, or i hate to say, old timer, john fogerty, which is going to be a big hit of the weekend. >> reporter: organizers say outside land is more than just music. there are venues for art, and booths for gourmet, food, and wine already ring the polo field. organizers say the city benefits from that partnership. >> after this year's festival, we will have given them over $4 million in our first four

folks who live in vallejo. the fire department says it received a two year, $3.6 million public safety grant. in addition, the department can hire new firefighters. the station is set to open by november 1. bart is warning passengers of possible service interruptions this month by protests. a man had been shot to death earlier by bart police, we brought you the chaos on ktvu, channel 2 news at 5:00. knew, bart police have learned protesters may try something similar this month. it may need to close stations temporarily, or make other changes on short notice. in afghanistan, the top u.s. commander says insurgents responsible for shooting down a helicopter have been killed.

set to graduate and a new class will begin. long time customers at wells-fargo are taking action to show their anger over the bank's foreclosure practices. customers pulled out hundreds of thousands of dollars today. >> reporter: for a bank with billions in assets, a few hundred thousand it's may not seem that significant. but community leaders here said this is just the beginning. wells-fargo security and oakland police were on hand, as members of oakland community organizations entered this wells-fargo branch. two at a time, they went in to close their accounts. one priest says he withdrew all $125,000 of his parish's funds. >> they say that they're doing a good job. but you know, the reality is that if they're doing a good job, how come they have all of these people losing their homes. >> reporter: they got federal

bailouts, but these leaders say the banks aren't doing enough to work with homeowners who's mortgages are under water. instead of modifying loans, homeowners say they're being pushed out. >> i have been in a several year battle with wells- fargo,ing trying to get them to give me a loan modification which would include a principle reduction. >> reporter: leaders of the oakland educator's association and church leaders are urging thousands of members to also close their accounts. >> we're hoping there's a ripple effect, and the power of everybody taking their money out together would show the banks that we have power. >> reporter: a spokeswoman said in a statement today, we make every attempt to avoid foreclosure. when that is not possible, we work diligently to manage foreclosed properties in a manner that benefits the community, until the home is sold to a new owner. one activist said the bank didn't seem concerned when she closed her account today. >> they have a smirk on their face, and what i think is, they

don't appreciate customers. and they say, you want to close the account, let's do it. >> reporter: some of those who closed their wells-fargo accounts today say they plan to move their money into local community banks. live in oakland, ken wayne. ktvu, channel 2 news. home prices here in the bay area are still falling just like the rest of the country. the national association of realtors found the median home price fell 6.4% in the area defined as san francisco, oakland, and free month. in the santa clara area, prices also fell, but not quite as much. the bay area bay study foot says it will resume its search for life on our planets within two weeks. the institute was forced to turn off the ray in shafta county back in april because of a lack of funds. but a public campaign raised more than $2,000, so the antennas can be turned back on
