12:01 am
field goal on the dirt. that is a ways to go. obviously they want to get a lot closer. knowing hue jackson, he wants the end zone, tom. >> tom: yeah. he wants to end zone. that delay had to be on the quarterback. he took way too much time to get those guys shifted around. >> greg: ausberry the tightend flips motion. he is now strong right. toss play. rankin fumbled the ball. it is free. it is free on the 40-yard-line. did the raiders get it back? i think the raiders got it back. louis rankin had the ball delivered by trent edwards right in the hands.
12:02 am
ball deflected on the interior line by ronald talley. now it is getting dicey boys. >> tom: you are right. they had the screen set up pretty nice. there was a lot of room for bennett down the sideline with about two or three blockers ahead of him. >> greg: 3rd down and 22. are you thinking 1st down here, jim or just field goal range? >> jim: i think you are talking about 10-15 yard pick up. >> greg: edwards, they blitz. edwards back pedaling. throws the ball in the ground. michael bennett was there. fl came no way late. a flag came no way, way late. it is against the raiders, though. >> tom: it is a holding penalty. >> greg: they will decline that. >> referee: holding, offense number 88. that penalty is declined. it is the 4th down. >>reg: raiders do have two
12:03 am
timeouts left. you do have the two-minute warning coming up. do you punt here or it is 4th and 22, a long way. >> jim: plus you might go for it. depending on what you feel like doing. but back-to-back screens on long yard situations. it is kind of difficult sometimes to pick up that kind of yardage. >> greg: they are going for a field goal. this will be a long one on the dirt. this would be 58 yards. 57 yards. they are going for a field goal here. so, sebastian janikowski made a 57-yarder in overtime going towards the north uprights to beat the jets. this is in the dirt baseball infield. right where cliff pennington plays short stop. janikowski lets it ride and he made it again! janikowski from 57. >> tom: how good is that.
12:04 am
i tell youhe lay-off didn't hurt janikowski at all. >> jim: and are we surprised. i don't think so. >> greg: from off the dirt though. that is a long way. janikowski gives the raiders a one-point lead on a 57-yard field goal off the dirt infield. 18-17, raiders. 2 and a half to go on the raiders broadcting network. turn left. you have arrived. sweet belt. e-reader for textbooks. gps. hd video cam for lectures. game pad. have you considered this by motorola ? it's got all that and more than 200,000 apps. technology to learn and play on-the-go. only at verizon. get the latest smartphones like the more powerful than ever droid x2 by motorola. buy one for $199.99, get another one free.

>> greg: well, the guy has made a 61-yarder in his career, a 59-yarder, a 57-yarder. but off the dirt in the infield this is impressive. >> tom: he takes fewer steps. shorter approach and he punches the ball because of the infield dirt. >> greg: there's the kickoff by pakulak. a.j. jefferson 20, 30. dropped on the 31-yard-line with 2:26 to play in the football game. and the janikowski field goal gives the raiders a one-point lead. we have a tendency to take jan for granted. -- janikowski for ground granted. but my is he special. the raiders lead by one on !

. >> j.t. the brick: welcome back. what a kick. a 57-yard field goal. sebastian, take us through the kick. >> i talked to hue and i know he was going to give he a long try. >> reporter: greg, you have seen it before. you called all the big ones. here's another one. >> greg:ow much more difficult is it to make that kick off the dirt versus a real piece of grass? >> it is better kicking from the grass. dirt is so hard. we are just worry about the planting. just got to go hard and kick it. >> greg: see if the raiders can make your game kick the winner. max hall, chris francis going to blitz. hall throws out right. catch and tackle made by jeremy ware on demarco sampson. arizona got to hurry up here. 2nd and 4 with 1:43 to play. her not going t -- they have one timeout remaining. they don't want to use that.
12:13 am
sebastian is going to leave us. hall under pressure. avoids a sack. he will run for his life. he could have gotten out of bounds but he cut back inside. i don't think he has the 1st down, jim. he is just short. >> jim certainly was a bad decision on the quarterback's part. either throw it away or run out of bounds to stop the clock. got to try to either get a 1st down right now. >> greg: they are in field goal range here with jay feely, tom. the great kicker they have. >> tom: yeah. >> greg: 3rd and 2. huddle up. no big hurry. a minute to play in the game. play clock at 13. a field goal would win it for arizona. max hall out of the shotgun. chansi stuckey goes in motion left to right. hall back, time, throw, catch, 1st down. 20, 15, 10, 5. is he in? did he step out? apparent he he didn't. touchdown arizona. nobody pushed him out. isaiah williams all the way in.
12:14 am
it is a 28-yarder right through the middle of the raider defense on a crossing route. >> tom: yeah. simple crossing route. the defender slipped down and there was supposed to be coverage. slipped on the congratulations and gave them a little more room. still he went right down the sideline. big body gets in the end zone. way too much time to throw the ball. no pass rush at all. >> greg: max hall comes right back as janikowski makes the field goal to seemingly win the game. now they go for two here, trying to make it a 7-point lead. is it possible he stepped out? >> tom: they are going to review it anyway. >> greg: no. in bounds. right there. >> tom: yeah, he did. >> greg: he stepped out right there. he is out on the 4-yard-line. this is a booth review. it is not a challenge by the raiders, tom, since we are under 2 minutes to play. clearly steps out right there. that is enough to push him out.
12:15 am
>> tom: yeah but it is going to be a moot point because they can run time off the clock so there's no time when they kick a field goal. >> greg: yep. acally, if you are playing a regular season game, you would rather give them touchdown and have a chance the kick it off. but you they have know. feely may miss the kick. that angle won't show it. the one from the backse showed it. jerome boyd makes him step out right there. 1st and goal from the 4-yard-line. they have to add some time on the clock. with your theory, tom, as a coach you would have rather had them score? would you just let them score now? >> tom: no. no you can't do that. >> greg: mike holmgren did that in the ser bowl. >> tom: he did. >> jim: it has been tried a couple of times since then by other teams but it is a big gamble. >> greg: you would never do that
12:16 am
as a coach? >> tom: no, i don't think so. >> greg: so, assuming he stepped out, the score is going to be 18-17. they are going to have a 1st and goal inside the 4-yard-line. >> tom: it will be 1st down and they can kill a couple of downs. >> the raiders have two timeouts left but that won't help. they are going to kick an extra point to win the game. >> tom: yep. >> greg: hue jackson talking it over. ken whisenhunt. went to his 4th string quarterback max hall. while we were celebrating the 57-yarder, max hall was able to lead them down the field impressively. >> jim: you have been around this game long enough, pap, to know it is not over until it is over. this is preseason. a lot of young players are in the game at this late stage of the game and they make mistakes. they are not on top of it.
12:17 am
they are young. >> greg: if you are whisenhunt, how do you play this? do you even run a play or just kneel down and try to work the clock down and kick it as little time remaining in the game as possible? >> tom: there's two ways you can do it. one is you could just run a play, a regular play. >> greg: here's ron winter. >> referee: after review, the ruling on the field stands. >> tom: whoa. >> referee: touchdown. >> tom: how did he miss that. >> greg:ow did he miss it? >> tom: wow. >> greg: i don't think we missed it. >> tom: i don't think so either. >> greg: let's take a look. >> tom: i didn't think i saw it. but right there. >> greg: you are seeing a white cleat step on a white apron. tom: right. >> greg: this angle, jim, seems to see he stepped out. well, do you see green there? >> jim: i thought the other one looked like he stepped out more than the other one.
12:18 am
>> tom: yeah. >> greg: he had a pedicure today and he trimmed a toenail. so, they are going for two here. this is a touchdown here. 23-18. more flags. >> referee: offsides, offense number 68. 5-yard penalty. >> tom: now they are going to kick it. >> greg: kick the one-pointer. it will make it 24-18. denarius moore runs back the kickoff and the raiders win this by a point. [laughter]. >> greg: we have seen some odd things tonight. how about the fact the raiders kicked off twice. should have asked jason campbell about that. >> tom: yeah. >> greg: i thinkt was jason who made the call. >> tom: he was the one out there making the call. >> greg: you coached in the days for a while you could not defer. you had to take the ball. >> tom: right. >> greg: what is the proper thing to tell the official when you win the flip but you don't want the ball to start the game, you want it to start the second half. what do you exactly say to him? >> tom: you can't. >> greg: you say we will kick
12:19 am
off or -- >> tom: no. because it is your choice. if you chose to kick off -- >> grant: we defer is the way you say it. >> tom: no. when i was coaching -- >> grant: they never had that rule before. >> tom: no, if you said we will kick off, the second half they come out it is their choice. the only thing that has changed is the defer thing. >> greg: so, the extra point is made and the raiders are down 6 and not 7. so, it is 24-18. that is a curious one. ron winter has been a official and referee for a long time. just didn't feel as though he saw a good enough replay. i'm assuming that he is seeing our replays. maybe he is seeing -- he is seeing our replay. he saw the same thing we did. he just didn't think it was sufficient enough or conclusive enough to overturn it. >> tom: guess not.
12:20 am
>> greg: interesting. >> jim: or they had a plane to catch. who knows. >> greg: well, either way. feely kicks off to chad jackson here. jackson a former florida gator can give the raiders a chance. janikowski's out of the mix here obviously. the raiders need a touchdown in the final 39 seconds. feely gets a long start to kick off from the new 35-yard-line for kickoffs again in the league. tonga out to lead block. jackson gets dropped inside the 20-yard-line. so, they have a long way to go. that is jared campbell in on the tackle, the younger brother of kalaus campbell. overall, what are you thoughts, jim? so many ways to assess this game. the starters were in the game for each side. >> jim: i thought they came out
12:21 am
and executed fairly well. moved the ball. campbell looked sharp. boller looked sharp. trent edwards. they all did a fine job. got late in the game. a lot of different mayers were playing in the -- players were playing in the game. >> greg: raiders send a trio of wide receivers out to the right. it will be edwards back and he will throw to his left. not a lot of boundary to work with first of all. he could not reel it in. 2nd down and 10 with 29 seconds to play. raiders go back to napa for more training camp. they will be on the field starting saturday to prepare for week two of the preseason. we will be with you a week from saturday from candle stick park to watch jim harbaugh and the 49ers. that will be fun next weekend. >> jim: certainly will be no
12:22 am
doubt. >> greg: edwards almost crossed the line. threw it out to bennett who steps out to stop the clock. 22 seconds to go. always fun when the two bay area nfl teams square off. that will be next week. the raiders next at home to take on the new orleans saints in week three of the preseason. this is always the most meaningful week as far as playing time. drew brees and the saints will be here. it will be a good test for the raiders. >> tom: yeah. be a good test for the defense that is for sure. they are a good solid team. it will be a nationally televised game. >> greg: edwards airing it out going up top. that ball is broken up down the feel by marshay green. now the raiders are down to their final bullet. 4th down and 2 coming up with
12:23 am
15 seconds to play. >> tom: when you play on a nationally televised game, you know the whole country is watching, there's totally different feeling going in. >> greg: it will be the nbc sunday night crew. the raiders wind up the preseason in seattle against the saw hawks. they will open also on national tv. final chance, 4th and 2. that ball is broken up. flag down, no. that will be the game. ball broken up there. batted away by the arizona cardinals. nnabuife, the former cal bear played for tedford able to knock it away. >> tom: the cardinals still have to kneel down. still 6 seconds to go.
12:24 am
>> greg: yeah. edwards 10-19 for 140 yards and one touchdown. that will be an interesting battle in camp as the preseason develops who will be jason campbell's backup. either way, the raiders will have three quarterbacks with a lot of starting experience in jason campbell, kyle boller and trent edwards. >> jim: true. sometimes you need that during a long football season. people tend to get hurt. sometimes they falter a little bit. >> greg: edwards threw a beautiful touchdown pass. the only touchdown of the night. the cardinals came back and got a touchdown to win the game. 24-18 arizona. we will see you a week from saturday at candle stick park. for jim plunkett and tom flores, greg papa saying so long. jt will come back and wrap things up. tom and i ove wñ
