up and down the streets prompting the closures of the powell and civic station. ken wayne is live with the arrests that were made in the past hour. >> reporter: all of the b.a.r.t. stations resumed their normal operations this evening but within the last hour we had a small group of protesters once again march up market street being closely followed by police. >> if you fail to return to the sidewalk you will be subject to arrest. >> reporter: police took action after several dozens protesters stopped in the middle of market street at u.n. plaza some protesters were taken into custody. >> sometimes infiltrators do come into demonstrations like this to cause trouble. >> reporter: police did push a protester over a motorcycle. there was some minor tension

cell phone service at several protests back on august 11th. some commuters trying to get home are not happy about these b.a.r.t. protests. one man we caught up with on market street tonight says it seems much a due about not a whole lot. >> they should focus on something like passing laws or getting involved instead of being out here yelling for no real good reason. >> reporter: he told us all the protesters appear to be successful at -- at slowing down the evening commute. just look for the tab on our front page. there are going to be new security rules in effect at candle stick park from now on after that violence at saturday's game that left at least three people hospitalize. two were shot and wounded in the parking lot after the game. one man was found badly beaten inside the restroom. there were numerous fistfights in the stands and at tailgate parties both at the game and

saturday's violence, two remain hospitalized. doctors upgraded the condition of a man to fair. he was beaten unconscious and found on the floor of a restroom. the condition of a 24-year-old man who was shot four times in the abdomen was also upgraded today to fair condition. his father told ktvu he refused to blame the teams, alcohol or police. >> it's not that, it's the people's fault for not controlling yourself. and i mean over a game. >> reporter: he said his son is doing better today after undergoing surgery. he also told us his son and his friends said that they were attacked after coming to the defense of a fellow 49er fan who was being beaten by raider fans. so what causes fans to behave badly and get into fights at sporting events? an expert tells us some of the factors besides alcohol. that story -pl cooing up at 8:30. two separate wildfires are burning in southern california today and causing delays. the two fires are burning near

each other along interstate 15 in the cajon pass in san san bernardino county. the fires both started around 5:00 this afternoon and caused traffic to slow way down on i15. one fire is much larger than the other. no word on the cause. ktvu's rita williams reports now that the u.s. and nato assisted rebels have prevailed in libya, what happens next? >> reporter: it's taken six months now for rebel troops to take control of the capital city of tripoli. but so far gadhafi is nowhere to be found. >> although it's clear that gadhafi's rule is over, he still has the opportunity to reduce further bloodshed by explicitly relinquishing power to the people of libya. >> we are not scared of any cats or any rats or any

assistant chief of police tonight. chief chris moore provided assistant chief rikki goede. she also spent ten years with the san diego police department. goede replaces diane urban to become chief of police in haywood. a new survey suggests the nations salaried workers can expect a raise. they show workers will likely get a 2.8% bump in 2012. those with highest performance ratings are expected to get a 4% raise. raises will be moderate. chancellors at california state university and in community colleges are bracing for another round of budget cuts. if sales tax revenues fall short of projections, certain cuts are set to be triggered come january. those cuts include $100 million

from the cal state system. and $72 million from the community college system. and for the first time in the history of the university of california, students are contributing a greater amount to the system than the state. uc expects to collect $2.9 billion in student tuition and receive $2.4 billion from the state. some 230,000 graduates and under graduate students are enrolled in the uc's ten campuses. if you're been paying attention to the presidential candidates, you will have noticed it's starting to sound more like 1992. bill clinton's slogan was, it's the economy stupid. and it's the economy again. >> i voted for obama. yeah i did. >> right now would you vote for him again? >> it all depends on what he

minutes. hurricane irene in the east coast has just been upgraded. the coast keeps getting stronger. i there's word that luis clark has died at the age of 86. clark is the person who owns that property right next to highway 24 where you've probably seen though thousands of crosses that have been placed there in memory of the american service members killed in afghanistan and iraq. hedeon said today that clark has been fighting cancer for more than a year. a memorial service is planned for next weekend. tablets in short supply after prices are slashed. plus -- >> the final space shuttle astronauts beat the crowd here at nasa aims. amidst some serious questions about america's future in space. their trip to space marked the end of an era. today the four astronauts in the final shuttle mission visited nasa aims in mountain view. as john fowler tells us they talked candidly about past flights, the danger and what the future holds. >> reporter: hundreds of families watched the highlight reel with these three men and one woman. they've gone to space in a way now none will ever go. >> in a transition period you don't know what the next ride to space is going to be. >> reporter: san carlos native carlile road the shuttle three times. >> almost like riding a wild animal that's getting shot off the planet. it's an amazing job.

supporting a new bill that would prevent police from going through your electronic device without a search warrant. the bill was penned by mark leno of san francisco. that would override a recent state supreme court ruling that allows warranted searches. the bill now goes to the state senate. hewelett packered's decision to take its tablet off the market has created a buying craze. now you can buy one for just $100. this comes after hp announced last week it's going to stop making the tablets because of slow sales. the wall street journal reports at least two bay area companies are interested in buying the video streaming service hoolu.

contra county tasks force appeared in court and pled not guilty. norman welsh may be released on bond if he can convince the court that he is not a risk to himself or others. norman wielsch is facing charges of corruption. a political activist, an attorney will be laid to rest tomorrow. tonight friends and family of don casper announced a reward for information that leads to the arrest of the hit and run driver who killed him. casper seen here in an interview with ktvu in 2000 was hit and killed on august 4th. the chp has released this photo showing a truck similar to the one investigators believe was involved in that hit and run incident. it's a white ford f150 pickup with a gold stripe at the bottom. charges were filed today in the hit and run that killed a 4-

year-old boy in santa rosa. marcos garcia is accused of driving the car that hit the child. garcia has previous citations for driving without a license. the adranos grocery chain filed for bankruptcy but hopes to keep the grocery stores open. after expanding about a decade ago andronico has since closed several stores including its store in palo alto just this year. the company was founded in berkeley and has been in operation for 82 years. facebook is unveiling plans for a second parking in menlo park. the proposed west campus would be located on constitution

two men climbed up a steep cliff and could not get back down. this woman was with the two men but refused help and climbed back down on her own. a father and son from mountain view are facing charges in connection with the killing of a teenager seven years ago. on friday, officers with the santa clara violent task force arrested 23-year-old anthony figueroa on a murder charge. his father 49-year-old arthur figeroa is facing a perjury charge. the younger figueroa was the driver of a car used in a deadly drive by shooting that killed 17-year-old alex fernandez. in the middle east, palestinian troops fired rocket bombs into israel. this was after a truce. tensions between israeli and pelestinians escalated last

week. in australia, hundreds of truckers led a protest at the parliament against a proposed carbon tax. the government wants to charge companies for carbon emissions in order to reduce pollution. they are also demanding new elections to get rid of the labor government. in the british virgin islands, guests of branson were forced out of the home. branson was staying at a home near by. 31 pounds of meth were stuffed into a speaking box in the trunk of the car. those drugs are said to be

here's what i'm noticing. i have fog in here. we're not seeing a big push. the fog is not getting over the coastal hills. you probably saw the fog pinched behind the coastal hills. that's an indication of a warming trend. you beat some of the warmest weather we've seen all sumner a streak. we've had 90 degrees days. it's not going to be record heat. but we're going to see four or five days in a low of record heat. with that comes higher fire danger. the fog still a player at the coast. there maybe some clearing out at the cliff house and bodega bay but very little. it might be dense at times. overnight lows in the 50s. high pressure is the story this week. it's coming out of the southwest. it's not going to blow the fog

offshore. higher temperatures probably in the mid-90s. you will notice it, it has been a cool summer. you will notice the next couple of days above average or certainly warmer than you felt for the average temperatures this summer. 7:00a.m., there's the fog, perfect almost nothing. sun is out, everywhere. by 10:00 and these reds start to come our way. those are 90s and they start to come in. this is more of a typical summer footprint and we're going to see it all week. i'm going to say footprint, we look at temperatureless. temperatures. you see the cooling at the coast. you see the oranges and reds. it's going to get hot around here. my concern now is going to be fire danger. as we go into these three of four days things dry up. they heat up. the inland bay valley, those dry hills could certainly pose a problem. we will certainly beyond that tomorrow morning, mornings on 2 we'll be watching it. we just haven't had 90 degrees readings. i noticed this over the years,

when you do get 90 days in a row, you get little fog popping up. you see the weekend always in view. a little bit cooler on the weekend but not much. so really, look at the bottom tier of numbers, we haven't had a run like that all summer. i don't remember one this summer that was 90 degrees. the lights are back in san leandro after a cooper thief left them in the dark. at the beginning of this month thieves stole about 10,000 feet of cooper wire. ended up costing the city of san leandro $16,000 to fix the lights and install new security locks. a federal advisory panel is making sure children are screened for signs of heart
