line, ken pritchett has the story. >> reporter: occupy oakland has made their message clear, shut down the city. but that's leaving some business owners with a tough decision. clorox is here but many of the businesses are small mom and pop operations like uncle willie's bar-be-que. >> we support the cause but we have a family we need to feed, we need the business. >> reporter: this vietnamese restaurant plans to close but this burrito stand will stay open. >> if you're part of the 99% which i think most of us are, you're hurting the others. >> reporter: the movement is blamed for killing three oakland business deals. >> one with 38,000 square feet pulled out of a deal.

one with 100 employees pulled out of a deal another with 15,000 square foot pulled out of a deal. >> reporter: the oakland port is one of the most busy and also on the list of a blockade. >> of our piers we heard from one of them that they have decided to shutdown. there was some reference to the november 2nd action. >> reporter: others worry about getting home through a crowd. >> i need to work. i'm on ssi, i'm like the average joe. >> reporter: we did not find a single person that was against the message, some simply answer why small local businesses have to suffer to make a point about big wall street corporations. live in downtown oakland, ken wayne. we caught up with oakland's interim police chief and asked

him about the department's preparations for tomorrow's strike. >> we have a plan to deal with the demonstrations, that's all i can say. >> do you guys have mutual aid calledded out? >> no we don't. >> reporter: the protesters ktvu talked to said they want to keep the demonstrations peaceful although we've seen one fliers that does condone violence. officers on the street are getting mixed messages about the occupy encampment. why officers feel they're caught right in the middle. >> tonight on our facebook wall we asked if you will be supporting tomorrow's strike. lisa kermish writes i am going to support tomorrow because they have good points and because the 99% needs to stand up and yes i have a job but

the east bay hills. all of highway 13 is being closed from highway 24 to interstate 580. workers are removing over head illuminated signs and installing new ones. the job is set to begin at 10:00 and last until 6:00 tomorrow morning. drivers will need to use 580 or find some other alternate route. we have some developing news to tell you about tonight. strong winds are fueling grass fires in the north bay and east bay and all of this with a red flag warning in effect. crews with the san ramon fire department were on the scene right now of a grass fire near black hawk. we have been told the location is lawrence road near camino. the fire started about 8:00 tonight, no structures are threatened. in napa a larger fire is burning. the napa sheriff is evacuating people in the immediate vicinity and calfire tells us that structures are threatened. right now there's only grass that is burning. ktvu chief meteorologist bill

martin join us now in the weather center to tell us what the conditions are, bill. >> reporter: certainly the napa fire is what we're most concerned about. gusts to 40-miles-an-hour. sustained winds to 25 miles per hour. it's blown to almost 70 miles per hour on top of mount diablo. the red flag warning in effect right now through tomorrow morning. and the wind gusts are going to stick around. the napa valley is where the fires are right now. it is just to the west of the silv era do gusts. we're going to be following the story because the winds are the real story. not just up in the napa fire but in the east bay hills. winds gusts up towards of 75 miles per hour. the winds are really ramping up. i checked the pressure grade gradients they are increasing. we'll talk more about that, i'm back here in 10 minutes, we'll

day stocks sold off sharply on wall street because of renewed financial turmoil in greece. the dow fell 300 points today. the index is down almost 600 from just monday and tuesday. ktvu's heather holmes tells us a decision to allow the people of greece to vote on a proposed bail out is rocking the markets worldwide. >> it certainly is. it is now wednesday in greece, just hours ago cabinet members emerged from a grueling emergency session. they are supporting the prime minister's plan. investors around the world are holding their breath the greek people will approve it. the shocking news that greece will bail out shook wall street. with investors worried for all of europe and the u.s.

discrimination to come forward. >> we have hired an outside consultant that's independent from the city to run both the recruitment and the testing process. >> somebody had to step up and you know if i had to do it all over again absolutely i would. one city leader told us there needs to be a change in culture to prevent future harassments and discrimination claims. reporting live here in san leandro, amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. a contra costa county judge today found there is enough evidence for the grandmother of a young girl to stand trial for allegedly kidnapping the girl. erica gallego faces kidnapping and burglary charges. it was on may 21st that authorities say gallego took the granddaughter from her son's house. she then brought the child to

southern california where she had told friend she was pregnant. the child was found the next day with gallego. authority officials are apologizing for an e-mail mistake. a viewer alerted us to the issue on our facebook page. mtc officials say a clipper card employee accidentally shared the e-mail addresses of more than 1,700 customers by forgetting to use the blind copy when sending a mass e- mail. the e-mail alerted customers that their credit cards were about to expire. no credit card or account information was leaked. right now i'm tracking the conditions up in the napa valley. we've got a fire up there just northeast of the town of napa up in the hills by the silv era do golf course. the winds are sustained, we have gusts near 40 miles per hour. one of the buoy readings have

tonight, they will set conditions for the camp and come up when the camp must disband. an investigation is under way in marin county this evening after a woman reported she was sexually assaulted this past sunday night. the 60-year-old woman said she was grabbed while walking in the area of terrace drive in marin city. the woman described her attacker as an african american man between 18 and 25 years old. and about 6'tall. new information tonight about that parolee who crashed a truck after speeding away from police in pittsburgh yesterday. today, he died from his injuries. police identified him as 26- year-old johnson of concord. a woman who was also killed in the truck was identified 47- year-old rita martinez of pittsburgh. two people injured in an suv that was hit are expected to survive. police say johnson had a long history of arrests and parol

there is no tent city in alameda but activists marched down the street hoping to build more support for the occupy wall street movement. >> this resolution is adopted. the 8-3 vote came after meeting with occupy representatives and city leaders: the protesters agreed to form committees to oversee sanitation plus health in the camps. >> there's a verbal agreement that as long as progress continues to be made. that there'll be peaceful. >> we haven't felt the need to issue citations at this point. and we will work toward a higher level of according with them. >> reporter: the public works department and fire department say they inspect that camp three times a day for code violations. the city says campers have

voluntarily moved their tents to accommodate clean up crews. we have new information now on our developing news out of napa county where strong winds are fueling a wildfire at this hour. we just got off the phone with fire officials they tell us two structures are involved and that others are threatened. the fire has now covered about 50 acres. it's burning along the silv era do trail at soda canyon road. the napa sheriff is evacuating residents. at this point they say the fire is about 50% contained it started at about 8:30 tonight. in news of the world tonight in poland -- >> a boeing 767 made a belly landing after the landing gear failed to deploy. officials at the polish airline said it was a perfect emergency landing. the pilots are being hailed as heros. the plane was on a flight from

new at 10:00, a fish liner opens today brings of chanook salmon to be caught. >> reporter: the sight of chanook salmon brought laughter and delight to children watching and they were not the only ones. >> we're excited about it because today is the first day of hatching grows and releasing 12 million salmon. >> reporter: the hatchery is located at the american river near fulsome. this morning the fish latter opened for the first time this year, 600 fish entered in the opening hour. >> they are here because they don't want to get caught and eaten. >> reporter: but for these 3- year-old chanook salmon it is the end of the line. 1,500 will be spawned today. they have yet to reach the hatchery, they are close and once they enter the river they move fast from the golden gate

bridge to our location in about three weeks. in 2008 and 2009, the number of returning chanook salmon was so low commercial and recreational fishing was banned. it's expected next year will be better. >> why? we don't know. that's the mystery of salmon again. >> reporter: in fulsome, ken pritchett, ktvu news. more details numbers from the department of fish and game showed the dramatic changes in the salmon population. in 2004 there were nearly 89,000 salmon in the american river. four years later, they were down to 5,700. last year they were back up this time to nearly 24,000. a red tailed hawk found in golden gate park with a nail through it head will be released tomorrow. the hawk was captured on october 24th and taken to the wildlife center of silican

valley where it's been nursed back to health. it'll be released into the wild at the golden gate park botanical garden tomorrow morning. wild rescue is offering a $10,000 reward for information on who shot the hawk. two san francisco police officers remain hospitalized tonight after an early morning car crash in the mission district. the officers car hit a light pole on potrero avenue on the way to a call this morning. a third officer in an unmarked car was treated for his injuries and released. investigators say it is still a mystery as to what caused a blast in richmond this morning. officials have ruled out a natural gas leak as the source of the explosion. the back wall of that home on ohio avenue blew out at 2:20 this morning. authorities say three people who were inside the home received nonlife threatening injuries. fire officials say they are looking into chemicals and

propane as possible causes. monitoring conditions with that red flag warning tonight and the very powerful winds that have been in the last hour begun gusting to near 80 miles per hour. the winds are picking up. the red flag warning wind event is occurring right now. i've got reports in the oakland hills with some tree limbs down from callers in the weather center. and the winds have really ramped up. i have 50-mile an hour winds just above the berkeley area. let's go check out the next graphic. we're in napa now in the napa valley. winds are blowing steady out of the north at 30. here's downtown napa. here's silv era do here. so far we've recorded up to 40 acres burned maybe more. the real significant thing is we have really strong wind gusts in this area. and sustained winds. gusts above 30 miles per hour to 40 but the sustained winds to 30. humidity is not that low but

the wind is constant. the pressure gradient is way up there. way beyond where it was last night. so the wind will be getting stronger over the next few hours especially in the north and east bay hills. the red flag warning which is based on the wind is going to be up until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow morning. forecast highs tomorrow in the 70s. the wind should be pretty much done by the time most of us get out of bed. but the next four or five hours they'll be going on. tomorrow, the next five days slightly cooler. we get into thursday, we talk about this event. rain moving into the area. light scattered showers. the main impact from this cooler, cooler weather as we head into thursday, friday, saturday and sunday. here comes the computer model. there's the first in the series that's tomorrow night at 11:00. it's well north. then we get into thursday morning, look where it is just north of here. the winds have shifted now to the bay area. at 1:00 we have light scatter
