week. demonstrators returned to the streets, a crowd of 1,000 marchs from city hall to the lakeshore district. they stopped at two banks along the route. there was in graffiti, but the demonstration remained peaceful. the group rallied outside of a elementary school slated for foreclose aure foreclosure. half the protester went home, but 400 or so marched back to the city's recently envated updown district. at about 5:30 people from the march pushed doba chain linked fence and setup a new encampment in a vacant lot at telegraph avenue and 1th street. city officials said they will not tolerate new camps, but police are only watching tonight adhering to the city's nonconfrontal strategy. ktvu's eric rasmussen is hearing from residents who don't want the new neighbor burb

businesses and residents are reacting. >> reporter: ken, i talked to at least one restaurant owner back here who says for tonight, all of these extra people are actually helping him. we have heard from many more who said they do not want this camp in this location. this was no welcoming committee for occupy oakland. >> i am a taxpayer. i have a job and i have to work tomorrow. >> reporter: a small group of neighbors met hundreds of protesters as they flooded into the area of 19th and telegraph, tearing down fences and setting up camp, while some watched from their living rooms. >> we're part of the 99% and it's just not in our homes. we go to the banks and the square and this isn't the space. where we live. >> reporter: the area is also home to the

oakland school for the arts and recently refurbished fox theater. police fanned out to protect businesses and residential buildings, but have not tried to break up the camp. how much time do you think you have in this spot? >> a day, and starting last night we began a conversation with the school and frankly, it didn't go so hot. >> reporter: that did not stop this day-long protest from ending with a giant street party and victory dance, even if some neighbors aren't celebrating with them. >> i think it's kind of disrupts the area a lot. there are small businesses and for some it's good, but for most it's not. >> reporter: protesters told me they will try to continue a dialogue with neighbors who live in the area, but we already heard from one neighbor complaining to police about the noise out here and again, it sounds leibthey just turned off music moments ago. live in oakland, eric rasmussen, ktvu channel 2 news. now to san francisco where religious leaders have

organized a silent candlelight march. ktvu's noelle walker is live at occupy sf where marchers were expected to rife. >> reporter: heather, according to the tweets i have read on-line it sounds like they are run a little bit late. they were supposed to be at the plaza. the camp is still here and the people sticking it out in the rain. moments ago we heard their trademark mic czech and mic check and they might be getting ready for the visitors. the american academy of religion is having a conference over the weekend. 8,000 people strong here for the conference. we don't know how many of them are going to participate in this vigil. the vigil includes travis smiley tv show host and dr. cornell west, who is an activist, philosopher and outspoken supporter of the obpie movements across this country. he will be here -- he is supposed to be included in this silent vigil and we'll come

down here and speak to the occupiers at justin herman plause, who plaza, so we'll be here at justin herman plaza. the man who made headlines perched atop a wall at city hall as part of san josi' occupy protest moved today across town and then pitched a tent and n mayor chuck reid's driveway. sean o'kelly says he came down off the wall last night. he first quarter climbed the wall on october 24th and o'kelly decided to move because he and others feel their efforts to reef out to city leaders have gone nowhere. >> we have been trying to work with them every step of the way and they keep blocking us. i guess sitting on that wall didn't get their attention. we're going to start bringing it to people's front yards. >> by 51st police said all the protesters have left the area near the mayor's home. no arrests were made and city

gas pipeline on the peninsula. work crews are repaired and retested two sections of a pipeline in palo alto that had two leaks during press testing. a pge representative told us that crews are expected to put that combined 3-mile section back into service at the beginning of next week. another portion of the pipe in south san francisco that is being retrofitted will go back moo service next week. this is the same transmission line that exploded in san bruno last year. los goat police released a sketch a man in an attempted kidnap. they say the man tried to pull a 17-year-old girl in his car on lark avenue near the los gatos creek trail. the girl fought the man off and managed to escape. he is described as hispanic in his 40s, 5' 7", 150 pounds. his car was olding with paint splotches that might be covering up rust. relatives of slain nursing student michellely worked for months to find le and one of

within hours it it was a five- alarm blaze. >> flames started to go through the roof and burning green, like maybe it was hot enough to melt copper. >> reporter: the red cross says rollmently 60 residents were displaced. some poured out to the streets to console eth. firefighters say the fire may have started in a elevator workroom. more than 16 hours after this fire started firefighters were still tackling hotspots. the building has been red- tagged and engineers say it's not structurally sound. that is part of the reason this intersection will remain closed throughout the weekend. owners of the restaurant next door carried out their cash registers and cooking equipment as they and other businesses closed up shop for the weekend. the mark of cafe intermezzo says he is not sure when or if they will rebuild. >> i have been work, for this place for 23 years or so.

nevada's governor said it was a miracle more homes were not lost in friday's wind-fueled wildfire. one man received a heart attack as he tried to flee the fire. ktvu's alex savidge made the drive to reno and tells us the likely cause of that blaze. >> reporter: chaired hillsides covered with a light dusting of snow. this is the scene in the colin ranch neighborhood of reno one day of a fierce wind-driven fire blew thorough and the residents saw the destruction this fire caused. this woman still has a place to live and is grateful. >> to know some people weren't as lucky, and it's just heard break. >> reporter: huge flames pushed right up to the front of this place. >> it came to right about here, but you can see some of this stuff was

into our newsroom of the occupy rally taking place in san francisco. ktvu's noelle walker says a crowd of 200 people made their way though from union quire to justin herman plaza and arrived ten minutes ago. the plaza which is where the occupy protesters have been camping out, noelle says one of tonight's featured speakers had to cancel because he got sick. the crowd is relatively peaceful, many holding candles, even with the rain come down in san francisco. well, a heated rivalry on the ice.
