collapsed and she tells us when repairs might be completed. >> reporter: heather, they are really planning to work on this all night. take a look behind me. you can see utility crews are working on repairing that 4" water main. they are having a bit of trouble because the landslide is still shifting, but they are hoping to have the water back up and running by 2:00 a.m. the stickato rhythm of the jack haller is not the best sound for dinner and not conducive for sleeping, but it's the soothing sound of progress. east bay municipal crews are working into the night to repair a wait main break, along with the heavy rain overnight contributed to a landslide in the oakland hills. >> it was dry and we wanted water, so we got a lot of water. fortunately, no one was hurt and the damage is min mall. >> reporter: 55 currents with without running water and they are reverting to boy scout tactics, using bottles. >> we heard the electrical

sounds of the wires being shorted and we could hear what sound like a transformer blowing up. >> reporter: down the hill, this man didn't hear the landslide, but he didn't have to go far to see it. the mud stopped right at his front doorsteps. >> then i walked out the front door and said huh, that is unusual. [ laughter ] >> reporter: there used to be a road there. >> not used to be shrouding it trees, you know? >> reporter: this was the first significant rain of the season, excite it's late start, it could be a very long winter. now even after the utility crews are finished with their work, it could still be some time before the road is open to traffic. that is because the city still needs to come in and inspect it and shore up the hillside, which is still shifting, repave it and make sure it's safetor traffic. reporting live in the oakland hills, noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news. >> the storm brought what many

skiers and snowboarders have been waiting for. they felt like they had to relearn to put on snow chains, it was such a long time, but they had few complaints about the fresh powder waiting for them on the slopes. >> i'm surprised it took this long, but i'm happy tae it's here. it should be fun. >> it's great. it should boost the tourism in the area. it will be good. >> caltrans says parts the i- 80 got 8" of snow. to deal with all of the snow, caltrans deployed to more than 100 pieces of equipment and about 200 caltran workers in the field, so snow-seekers could get to their destinations. downed trees, flooded streets and power outages. ktvu's allie rasmus shows us some of the storm-related problems in marin county. >> reporter: rainbows arched across mill valley are a serene sight compared to last night's storms you could see and hear the water rush through the

streets. by 10:00 businesses at this intersection put out sandbags and boarded doors. >> we had several businesses that had some minor flooding due to the drains backing up, just severe runoff. >> it was pretty windy. it was scary with trees moving around. >> reporter: in tiburon, a towned tree split a power pole in two, snaring dozens of power lines in its branches. people didn't have power until 11:30 this morning and near highway 101, the rain and high tide turned the manzanita park- and-ride into a concrete soup. the rain is still come down. it's pretty light right now, but residents are warned not to let their guard down. another round of rain is on its way tomorrow. renee glazer has a creek running through her front yard and after last night's rain she

fired around 10:30 this morning near an auto repair shop at 90th and mcarthur boulevard. two people were wounded and police believe the gunman barricaded himself in the garage. a team rushed to the scene and witnesses say police left the scene without make an arrest. we'll tell you about a long day of clean-up following yesterday's occupy protest. plus picture taking and face-painting and fun for a serious reason. why parents and caregivers took part in the south bay event. >>

. there were several arrests and a lot of expensive clean-up arch the latest occupy demonstration in san francisco. kutv's christien kafton shows us the damage. >> reporter: plywood sheets cover windows in san francisco's bentley dealership, destroyed, the dealership says by protesters. occupiers began their protest before dawn and late in the afternoon. they marched towards geary and van ness and a small group smashed the windows of the dealership. visitors to the dealership were told that the damage is in the tens of thousands of damage. >> we saw the windows and we

were attracted to that and wondered what happened and we went in and looked at bentleys and yeah, we talked to them inside about what happened. they said it just happened last night. protesters made their way inside the now vacant cathedral hill hotel. more than flee dozen provides took over the building and police moved in and arrested four of them before clearing the building out. this morning crews welded doors shut and firefighters went from room to room inside looking for damage. >> last night some of the demonstrators opened up the hose lines inside the house lines. so we're making sure they are all shutoff and we have water case we had a fire here we would be able to protect the building and put out the fire. >> reporter: the police barricades are still out tonight and tell ktvu that they targeted this hotel because there are so many homeless living in the city and say a lot of homeless people could be sheltered in vacant

buildings like the cathedral hotel. christien kafton, ktvu chars. superintendents at kruk berkeley's anthology library ended their protest a few hours ago. a group stayed in the library since thursday to fight the shortening of hours after a staffer quit. tonight the demands were met and the library would resume regular hours on monday. the mayor of san francisco is prepared to ask sheriff ross mirkarimi to step down as he faces charges. mirkarimi has pleaded not guilty to misdemeanor domestic abuse against his wife, dissuading a witness and child endangerment. he is due back in court on monday. oakland police are warning craigslist users to be on alert after a series of armed icers of prospective car buyers. before the final sale, the seller changes the location of the deal to oakland. and when the duped buyer

arrived they are robbed at gunshot. a $250, reward is now being offered in the case. the attorney for an iraq war veteran charged with killing four southern california homeless man says his first lengthy meeting with his client was "very surreal." the lawyer says ocampo seemedd distant. california public health overtimes say environmental samples collected from a dairy in fresno tested positive for the strain of e.coli that infected five children last year, including two children from contra costa county. last november three children who drank raw milk were hospitalized. however, e.coli did not show up in tests of the company's recalled products or the bottles taken

from the homes. sickened children and the recall and quarantine were lifted in december. yesterday public health department officials say their tests showed two samples from the dairy had a genetic pattern indistinguishable from the outbreak of the e.coli strain. advocates on both sides of the abortion issue rallied in san francisco to mark the anniversary roe v. wade. this afternoon thousands marched down market street in the 8th annual walk for life. many are calling for reversal of roe v. wade and a national ban on aboudihaj one marcher say pregnant women need to consider other options. >> they should be aware of the resources available to them. there are a lot of the of programs both to support people to raise their own children as well as options for adoption and things, such as that. >> abortion rights protesters

briefly stopped the march, but according to san francisco police pulled them out-of-the- way. police did detain one person. . families in the south bay took part in a printa thon to keep their children safe. the event in san josi offered free fingerprinting of children along with other safety measures. they received updated photographs and dna collection kit and a plan explaining what to do if a child disappeared. marc klaas, head of the event says being prepared is essential. >> everybody agrees that in case of an emergency, time is the enemy. and you want to be able to have something that you can hand to the first police officer on the scene. >> the klaaskids foundation was created following the 1993 kidnap and murder of klaas' daughter polly of the since then the foundation has fingerprinted and photographed more than a million children across the country. new at 10:00 in bay area

animal lovers are just back from a trip from one of the world's most dangerous cities. ktvu's eric rasmussen is in san rafael to show us what they brought back from mexico. >> reporter: ken, there are certainly stray dogs in the bay area, but one rescue group says it's nothing like what it sneeze juarez, mexico and tonight eleven dogs that almost certainly faced death are getting a new chance at life right here. this is the end of a 1200-mile journey for christy canalblor and eleven new four- legged friends. each dog comes straight from the streets of juarez, mexico. >> it's been a long trip? camblor says her group, compassion without border has made their trip to juarez 100 timessed. in a city where an ongoing drug

stormtracker 2, by this time tomorrow we'll have heavy rain sneaking back into the bay area. as far as rainfall totals over the past 24 hours and, in fact, this was at radar 24 hours ago. look at all the yellows and reds across the region. the amounts pretty impressive. fairfield about 1.5", san josi at .66" and ben loweman, over the past two days picking up nearly 7" in the santa cruz mountains. first thing tomorrow morning, rainfall redevelops. nothing major, but still pers of rain out there and temperatures mainly in the upper 30s to 40s. oakland starting out sunday around 43 and san josi at 42. here is the weather system developing offshore. all the cloud cover in advance of it and along this frontal band, this will be the source of some heavy rain. it will take its time to get here. for tomorrow, periods of ranger

heaviest in the north bay. we'll break down the coverage in a little bit. an area of low pressure will be setting up shop to our west as we head into sunday night and into monday and with that we increase the rainfall rates and bring in a chance of a few thunderstorms and also gusty winds. rainfall expectations could be in the range of 1-2". >> the timing sunday night into early monday morning until 5:00 or 6:00 monday morning. here you can pick out as far as the snow coverage in the sierra, a winter storm watch kicks in tomorrow afternoon, lasting until tomorrow afternoon. snowfall, can you tack on another 1-2'. this the cool nature of the system, snow levels coming down to around 4500'. here we go with the updated forecast model tomorrow morning at 7:00, you can see the coverage out, there light to moderate cells at 6:00. into the afternoon hours you see is the activity lifting to the north. and then as we head to the
