new york to shanghai. a carload of snowboarders do play by play on a high-speed chase. see what happened when they grabbed the camera and got in on the action. >> he came flying past us. and that ain't the sound of music. we'll kick things off with intense video. steven has the story for us. >> 33 firefighters responded to an apartment fire in san leandro, california. we get to see what it's like to be one of the rescuers, because a alameda fire department was wearing a helmet cam. you can hear people screaming. you see there as a woman is handing over her child from a second floor little balcony there. she jumps down herself and is

save. there's people rolling around on the ground and listen here. >> the baby is upstairs. >> all right. >> they get the blaze down a bit and then the most dramatic part of this video, tom and his team go inside this burning building. >> right here? >> where are you guys? >> on the ground! >> they are using infrared camera to locate the people in the building. all three children were rescued. >> what an interesting way to see what firefighters go through. i don't think i've seen it from this perspective. >> how terrifying for this mother to go through this and hear the cries of her children. they were smart, they knew to be on the ground. >> they were on the ground and knew to scream when the firefighter came in there. they are still investigating what caused the blaze. this fire has displaced 12 people who lived in this apartment building. the residents only suffered some minor injuries due to smoke inhalation.

a high-speed chase happened on interstate 40 near asheville, north carolina, it was all caught on a cell phone camera. >> let's get it on video. >> they got him. they got his plate stripped. >> look at the smoke here on the center of your screen. that's the car running from cops. as you see the smoke going, it's hitting stop sticks. look at what happens after stop sticks are hit. the cops and the car all stop in the middle of the highway. so this car, they stop. and look what they're seeing. the guy in the car running from cops, 30-year-old kevin cooke, gets out of the car and is running from police across a busy interstate. you see him hop over the median and just barely miss this pepsi truck. >> whoa. >> and then keep running and m jump over the guardrail. >> so this is a civilian shooting this with his cell

phone. >> yes, a 14-year-old named dennis mcclendon was on his way to a snowboarding trip. kevin cooke was on the run for felony probation violations. he was arrested and he will be charged with several different charges, including going 120 miles per hour in a 60-mile-per-hour zone. >> that's something you probably don't see every day. >> we wanted to find out more about this video and the boy who shot is. "right this minute" we have davis mcclendon via skype from asheville, north carolina. welcome to the show. how is it that you caught all of this action on your cell phone? >> he came flying past it's, the man the police were chasing. and i happened to have my cell phone out. so i just started recording it. >> what was more exciteing your snowboard trip or this police chase? >> most definitely the police chase. one of the most exciting things that happened. i think we did hit the side strip also because we stopped

with a flat tire a few miles after that. >> they got the plate strip. >> different parents employed different types of teaching techniques to raise their children. let me know what you think about this guy's technique. this is a little 4-year-old being trained by his dad. on this day in new york city, it was 8 degrees fahrenheit. this is dad's way to train his chide to downer developmental difficulties due to the fact he was born premature. he titles the video eagle dad parenting approach. the reason he calls it eagle, because young eagles are expelled by mom eagles off cliffs so they can learn to fly the hard way. is he obviously cold. he is looking at passersby.

he asks dad for a hug. dad encourages him, come on, keep going. keep going. apparently they did this for about five minutes. at the very end, they're back inside, and he even smiles. in western media the story is being played out a lot. the feelings are of anger, and how you can treat a child like this. but in chinese papers, dad is referred to as a proud dad. >> i guess dad is doing it with good intentions, but in my opinion i wouldn't want to see my own kid go through this. >> it's so heartbreaking. the child's face is so panicked and in pain. just, like, looking for love instead of this. >> i think it's definitely a cultural difference for sure. this may be seen as not a big deal in china. >> we want to know what you think. head over to our facebook page,

tell us that live granny is waiting for your call. it would be dad if it was dead granny. this is a sweet way to be earth conscious and say granny i love the sweater you grot me. >> even though it is a gray off the shoulder number. >> did your granny really get you that? you guys know i pretty much love anything that has to do with racing, even racing feathered friends. my father was a pigeon racer his entire life. pigeons that are ratced are lik thoroughbreds. they have blood lines, they train them, take them in these crates 30, 50 miles away, let the pigeons go and they fly back to the house as fast as possible. there's some big money in this. some birds you buy, 1,500, 3,000, $5,000 or more for a good pigeon with a good blood line. it's a huge sport worldwide.

you check the internet for pigeon racing videos, they're all over the place. here to tell us about what it's like to be a professional pigeon racer is herb cartmill. how do you stop people from cheating? >> the birds have a little band on their leg with a microchip on it. what we do, we take a gps reading at the person's loft, when we release the birds, as that bird comes home, he has to cross the finish line and go into the loft before he's counted. >> as a kid that was my job. i had to let go of the decoy birds to fly to the coupe so the birds up in the air would land. >> i have thousands of yards, that's how you determine the winner. >> how long does it normally take a pigeon to travel that kind of distance? >> we can a 600, 700 mile radius early in the morning and while have them in the evening.

>> tell us about the money on the line in the bigger races? >> some of them have several thousand dollars, one in africa. one in china is over a million dollars. >> what's the life span of an average racing pigeon? >> i will fly a bird maybe four, five years. ti typically you can fly that bird up to 10,000 miles. >> what keeps the bird from stopping 150 miles into a race and building a nest and saying i think i'll make this my coop. >> it's like nascar or football, if you like sports, it has all the thrills of any of them. >> there's fred calderon training his pigeons. he's retiring this year from pigeon racing after about 60 years of flying. >> wow. the crowd gets down to a new kind of song. >> something sounds odd what is it? all we'll say
