problems at the tunnel. why the highway patrol have closed the center board tonight. good evening, i'm ken. >> i'm heather holmes. a power failure hit the tunnel at about 5:30 p.m. at 7:00 tonight, the highway patrol closed the center for about an hour, delaying traffic on highway 24 headed toward arinda. perhaps frustrated with the lineup, a pickup collided in the same area near the fish ranch off ramp. >> gas prices have now hit an average of $4.25 a gallon here in california. the prices are higher in the bay area. drivers aren't the only one getting squeezed. eric? >> ken, i talk ed to a gas station owner tonight who said

he's losing 7 cents for every gallon of gas he sells. the workers here at this gas station came and took the numbers of of the markee rr -- marquee. gas price s jumped 4 cents overnight. one station in oakland closed in on $4.50 a gallon. >> it's ridiculous. we have refinerys here in the bay area. why are we paying so much? >> reporter: dur g ing -- during his visit to the bay area, presidential hopeful newt gingrich blamed the white house. >> you have $2.50 a gallon or less, you have $10 a gallon or more. you pick. >> do you think we'll ever see it back to $2.50 a gallon?

>> never, i don't think so. >> reporter: a gas station owner says the spike is hurting him too. >> we make our money by the store. when they do come in, they don't spend as much. >> reporter: he says he doesn't see any relief in sight and aaa confirmed gas prices could continue to rise, fueled in part of investor activity. to make matters worst, aaa points out this is the time of year gas prices go up anyway due to an increase of travel and the warm weather blend of gasoline. >> the average price for a gallon of unleaded is $4.20. in oakland, $4.24.

assaulting an officer. >> the only other injury was severed by someone hit with a bat in the original incident. john says the other two men, they've also been arrested. >> that 200-acre fire in napa county is fully contained. investigators are looking to those who caused it will face penalties. crews were on the scene today mopping up hot spots. investigators say the fire broke out thursday when a pile of burning brush from a nearby vineyard got out of control. firefighters in crockett fought a fire this morning at a laundry mat caught fire. it turns out firefighters didn't have far to go to get to the scene. >> we were at st. rose church, a half a block away, honoring one of our retired firefighters who had passed away.

be pressed against a 91-year-old woman. leona fernandez drove in by mistake. an 80-year-old and 100-year-old were killed in the crash. >> california has one of the largest number of traffic fatalities involving seniors. there were over 5,000 crashes. florida had the highest number followed by texas and then california. cities and counties, the study says, should be doing more to make driving safer such as offering driver education courses. a woman from pleasanton injured in a 9-car crash this
