six shootings in 48 hours make for a violent weekend in berkeley. what a community leader says needs to be done to keep young people safe. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. it's been an especially violent two nights in berkeley with half a dozen shootings just blocks apart making it an especially dangerous time. >> reporter: in two days six

young men are shot. they all survived but it's hard for a man who knew every single one of the victims. after his players reach 14 years old, his mentoring arm can extend only so far, he says. >> it's when they leave us, that's when the problems begin. >> reporter: he says there are no gang members in berkeley just young people with access to gunless. in g u nless -- to guns. he says he received the call. berkeley police say three young men were shot. >> the shooter or shooters came around the corner from addison street and fired on the group from a distance. >> reporter: today berkeley investigators are looking into a connection between another shooting, the day before friday evening around 6:30 here on bonar street. again three young men shot as one drove by and opened fire. coach walker knew all six of

the victims. >> these kids need something to do. when they turn 16, 17, 18. >> reporter: lawrence williams was with the victims minutes earlier from when they were shot. he works with mike williams. >> there's nothing to do for them, the mayor hasn't said nothing. >> we're live at police headquarters tonight. last year police investigated one homicide, this year they've recorded two.

jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2. police are increasing patrol at several neighborhoods because of slashed tires. officers found a number of other damaged vehicles on several streets also in that neighborhood. police believe the vandals struck between 2:00 and 7:00 a.m. but says no one seems to have heard or seen anything. so far they've counted 51 damaged vehicles. in oakland one man is dead after being shot several times. then apparently run over by the suspect's vehicle. police found the man dead around three o -- three o -- at 3:00 this morning. investigators say hedid live in the area. >> officers say they spotted the suspect driving a stolen mercedes just after midnight. police followed him for 10

blocks down international boulevard. he then tried to board a train causing it to make an abrupt stop. he was eventually caught by police. in contra costa county another police pursuit also ended with an arrest. officers tried to stop a car for reckless driving but the car kept going. speeds topped # -- 99 miles per hour during the chase. perez is in the bay area for a four day visit. debra villalon tells us about the president's plan and the extreme steps taken to keep the leader safe. >> the security is over the top, they are using bullet- proof glass. >> reporter: advance teams have already scoured the area where

and local television stations sent them running for cover and saved lives. from kentucky to ohio to georgia people are digging out after a series of destructive storms. we'll take a closer look at the devastation through the eyes of residents and those charged with helping them recover. one of the biggest names in the world of rock & roll guitar has died. ronny montros passed away at the age of 64. ktvu's patti lee spoke to those who knew the rock legend. >> reporter: we were at the site of his home in milbrae yesterday, but today, fans were paying tribute in their weekly jam session. listen to a few of his hits and the sound is unmistakable. >> rock the nation. i mean just that.

mirkarimi abused her during their relationship. nearly 200 people have been called to appear. mirakrimi has pled not guilty to charges that he abused his wife. stockton is close to becoming the nation's largest city to declare bankruptcy. city council members approved a mediation plan giving city officials 60 days to renegotiation payment options with creditors. if a deal cannot be reached, the city will be allowed to file for bankruptcy. stockton currently faces a bankruptcy. tomorrow, city council plans to asked the audit committee of the city's audit. the move comes after the city

residents near a house that went up in flames in san francisco's bay view district say it is just a matter of time before something happened. allie rasmus tells us that house has been the focus of recent complaints. >> i opened the door to my room and there was just black smoke. >> reporter: hernandez escaped no one was hurt in the home. two of the homes on this block were red tagged and the residents k-pt come back here to live anymore. the house in between them is where this fire started, it's vacant or at least it's supposed to be vacant. >> this building has been abandoned. in the back it's just full of debris. >> reporter: in the back of the house where the fire started we

saw a sofa, mobile home and bar- be-que grill with food still on it. neighbors say they've been complaining about squatters for years. >> it's not a surprise it caught fire. >> reporter: a search on the city's department of building website shows there's been seven complaints from neighbors going back to 2004. city inspectors have been out here several times but the case is still open. >> it's just something that the city is failing to act on and that's true in the bay view, it's a shame. >> reporter: an arson investigation is on the way. while hernandez says he's glad no one was hurt. he says it was a terrible expaorpbs he -- experience he wouldn't wish on anyone. police are searching for a missing girl in need of daily medical treatment. 14-year-old briana robinson was last seen on wednesday.

police say she took clothes with her but left her medication at home. the áf robinson suffers from mull -- they say robinson suffering from multiple sclorosis. they went through her phone and say she may be with someone named anthony. anyone with information on either teen's whereabouts should contact police. a 38-year-old san francisco man is facing a number of charges including child endangerment and reckless driving after police say he crashed his suv right into the bay. the driver was identified as agiano hernandez. police say he was doing donuts around 3:00 a.m. near fort mason when he crashed his suv into the bay. neither hernandez nor any of

multiple complaints. the opposition will declare a large protest tomorrow. in other news of the world tonight in the republic of congo a series of explosions at an arms depot killed 106 people. the blast collapsed homes and buildings including two churches with parisheners inside. a short circuit was to blame for the fire that sparked the explosions and promised to move military barracks out of town as a result. there are reports that say several dozens army deserters were executed in the town yesterday. for a third day the international red cross was not able to get inside the former rebel district in homs but did deliver ate to six towns away. a reporter says he witnessed

the slaughters of the civilian population in the district. 7,500 people have been killed since the revolt against president alasad began 11 hours ago. in france, amateur video captures the moment an avalanche happened at a ski resort. amazingly no one was huh. about 70 -- no one was hurt. a 45-year-old pilot is in critical condition tonight after crashing his world war ii era plane in san diego county. firefighters say the pilot crashed into a hanger just moments after taking off from the far brook. the pilot was air lifted to the hospital with what sheriff deputies call major injuries. a call to help one of san francisco's most iconic structures. it is a san francisco landmark that some say is falling apart and why they believe voters can fix it.

the calendar says it's still winter but today's warm weather had people out. parts of the bay area experienced highs in the mid- 70s today capping out a really great weekend to be outside. >> it certainly was nice outside. some reached in the 80s right. >> that's right heather and ken. a few 80s for the first weekend in march. just an extreme weather story. seems like that for this time of year. changes are setting up over the next two or three days. right now on the maps the first change we have fog developing offshore. here's a closing inspection. already a few patches jumping up our shoreline. we had patchy fog regrouping near parts of the shoreline earlier this evening. that will be cooling us off. that is after a very warm weekend. taking a look at this, the sunset at 6:07.

just beautiful over the golden gate bridge. temperatures today just sored back up into the 70s and even a few 80s to report. these are the numbers from earlier today. you can see santa rosa at 77. downtown san francisco this will be a nice temperature in the summer, but today topped out at 70 degrees. san jose mid-70s and antioch in the lower 70s. a couple records to report, santa cruz breaking the record set in 1937. for the tonight we do have this, mostly clear skies. tomorrow partly sunny skies you will notice a change in temperatures for your monday. on tuesday we do bring a chance of a few sprinkles. today the warmest day with most areas a good eight to 10

degrees above average. some changes developing to our north and west. this will initiate our cooling trend as we head into monday. tuesday will be the coolest day of the upcoming weekend. that's the day we bring in a slight chance of a few sprinkles. increasing clouds by monday night. we see showers up to the north basically just fizzling out into the bay area. early tuesday morning, we do have a few sprinkles or few light showers, not a big deal. and then decreasing clouds rapidly by tuesday, by mid- morning into the afternoon hours. everybody's coming down at least five to 10 degrees from today's highs from tomorrow. that means san francisco right around 61. san jose 68 and morgan hill 69. here is a look ahead. your five day forecast, you will notice into tuesday. that will be the coolest day. there's that chance of a sprinkle. we also increase the winds. a little bit of a bump in the numbers for thursday and

good evening everyone and welcome to this late sunday night edition of sports wrap. it was all there today for the taking for the cal basketball team. win the regular season finale against stanford and win the pac12 regular season's championship. but the cardinals had another idea. zimmerman not normally known as a three point shooter but he had two of them as stanford surged to an early lead. stanford leads in the second half. bears fell behind by double digits before narrowing the gap. cal back to within eight, then it was six after harper camp hits two down low.

the bears at one point pulled to within three. but cal couldn't keep stanford off the offensive board down the stretch. the third senior jared man with the put back. the cardinal ruins it for the bears. cal finishes 26-8. arizona state and the pac12 12 tournament. cal is the number two seed. not nearly as much at stake as the stanford and cal women squared off the night in their final regular season game. cal trying to keep the cardinal from its third straight undefeated conference season. bonny samuelson was a force for the golden bears early. a name you may be a little more
