san francisco police say this is the man behind the gruesome killings of five people. but why he allegedly went on the attack is still unknown tonight. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. a major break tonight in a savage and bloody crime that left five people dead. tonight a san francisco man is behind bars facing five counts of murder.

patti lee is on howell street near city college where police are still working even after the announcement of an arrest. >> reporter: tonight there's word that there is progress in the arrest. officers, yellow tape and reminders of the crime scene everywhere, residents here say they can't help but feel uneasy. 35-year-old fin luck was arrested this morning in san francisco for killing five people. >> so they made an arrest. what does that mean? we don't know. >> reporter: this man says he does not know and never seen the suspect in the area. but until a motive is discovered, he cannot be sure if the nightmare is over. >> i can't help but worry, i

have to wonder if it's a connection to this person or any kind of a mafia. this is something we need to be worried about. >> reporter: the city's police chief refused to validate reports that gambling debts were a motive. >> we do have information that we're following up that there could be prior gang ties involved in this situation although we don't believe at this point this was the case. >> reporter: chief greg suhr did not say what led them to luck, only that the suspect had a criminal record and subjected them to blunt force trauma and a jagged edge weapon. four of the victims are widely believed to be members of the same family. tonight friends and strangers came by to pay their respects. the suspects younger brother was also arrested this morning on unrelated charges. but police are investigating if he played a role in this case. reporting live in san francisco, patti lee, ktvu channel 2 news.

more details on this case as patti said. a relative was arrested. police identified him as bryan luck. to avoid confusion, police did not release his mug shot. he is a felon in possession of ammunition. now to that desperate search of a missing teenager. it has now been five days sierra lamar was last seen. just saying that number alone brought the teenager's mother to tears. >> reporter: heather this is the girl that everyone is still looking for. tonight new searches were planned, and a vigil brought together everyone in solidarity. eventually 40 volunteers filed into burnett elementary school this afternoon. michael lay led today's roadside search effort the first without police assistance. last year it was volunteers who

discovered his sister's body after she was murdered. >> we need all the help we can get when it comes to searching, when it comes to getting the word out. >> reporter: we learned today daily search operations will begin at the school starting this tuesday led by the kids foundation. tonight 15-year-old sierra lamar's family led candles at a vigil, meant to keep support for the girl who has been missing for nine days. >> i just want her to come safely home to us. i appreciate every effort that you guys are making to help that happen. you know. >> reporter: despite her family's four short months in the community, sierra's mother pointed out the donations and fliers. >> it puts my mind at ease that you guys aren't quitting. >> reporter: reflected by the pink and black ribbon decorating the more than 400 people or so gathered. >> i'm still trying to get my head around the fact that she's gone and nobody knows where she is. >> sierra if you're out there watching this, just know that we love you and miss you so much. >> we can't give up hope because everything is possible. >> the key right now for us to

get people out, helping us because it's still a mystery. it's still baffling. >> reporter: we're live at burnett elementary. daily searching are expected to begin tuesday. the sacramento sheriff is trying to piece together a missing baby case. involving a mother who is now in jail and a toddler who hasn't been seen for almost a year. law enforcement officials just found out that 22-year-old dwight stallings is missing. the baby's mother was arrested on thursday. neighbors say they can't remember when they last saw the mother with the son. but the mother never reported the boy missing. she's also not telling investigators much about where

the baby is now. >> unfortunately ms. edwards story is not matching up. >> reporter: now the baby's grandmother said he daughter said someone was watching him. gunfire was reported just after 1:00 a.m. out pagano's bar on washington avenue. 24-year-old juan quinn was shot in the chest. officers arrested santario revino. police in foster city are investigating the shooting of a suspected burglar by a house guest. the shooting happened at about 4:30 this morning at a home on crane avenue. after reports of noise and tampering with doors, police arrived and found the san mateo man with shotgun wounds. he was taken to the hospital. the shooter is a brentwood man in his 40s. at this point neither man has

been arrested. a cosco in concord was evacuated for several hours today after a hazardous spill. authorities say the hazmat team was immediately called in. the store was ventilated and reopened about five hours later. no one was injured. presidential candidate mitt romney is coming to the pay area for a high dollar fundraiser. the top gop candidate will appear at an event in redwood city hosted by meg whitman. tickets start at $1,000 and run as high as $25,000. romney heads to stockton on tuesday then moves on to southern california. campaign officials say romney has spent more than he expected at this point in the campaign. he's down to about $7 million in cash but still has more than $40 million in his super pack.

rick santorum will follow romney to california for a fundraiser on thursday. the founder on online marketplace mark pine will host the event at his home in alamo. the big difference between his fundraiser and romney is the cost of ticket. for santorum they will start at $125. almost $900 less than romney and only goes as high as $1,200. for a limited number of tickets to hear arguments on the health law challenge, most of those in line are paid line sitters. some of whom have been camping out now since friday. the court expects to hand out about 50 free seats tomorrow morning on a first come first serve basis. over the next three days, the court will hear arguments on issues whether congress will require every american to buy health insurance and whether safe must expand medicare. >> seeing jurors appointed by

both republicans and democrats. we're confident that it'll be constitutional. >> this is extremely expensive. families won't have a choice. they're going to be forced to buy an insurance product the government tells them they have to purchase. if they don't they'll have to pay a fine to the federal government. this is absurd. >> 26 states are challenging the law backed by the obama administration. that law extends coverage to more than 30 million of the uninsured and bans insurers against discriminating against patients who have preexisting conditions. there's word that the family of those wounded have now accepted financial compensation from the u.s. sarah sitner reports, tonight there's new information about where the suspect went on that fateful night. >> reporter: this case has become more and more curious,

for every detail released, more questions emerge. the gunman left the base, went to a village, returned to base and then left to another village. how did he end up in two different sreul lams with nobody noting. the other information that we received that compensation has been paid to the victims of the massacre. we're talk about a figure some where around $860,000. the equivalent of that has been paid in afghan in cash. for each person that died the family member got $50,000. for each person that was injured family members got $10,000 per person. this is a large amount of money for individuals who live in very difficult and dire circumstances. it's also a huge security risk for them. the area is known to be former

stronghold of the taliban, kandahar is the birthplace of the taliban. but there's still so many questions left unanswered in this case. one of those was brought in today again. the afghan government says 16 people were killed in the massacre. but the u.s. government has charged army staff sergeant bales with 17 counts of murder and no one seems to be able to tell us exactly where that other person is coming from. we also can tell you that in this case that the victims had said they would not accept compensation that they only wanted justice. but clearly they have accepted some money from the united states. still they want justice to be done. kabul afghanistan. in san francisco, a mourning munni car accident has left a man dead. munni officials tell us they can't confirm what happened but witnesses say the man jumped in front of the bus. he died at the scene. the recent conviction of a man involved in a highway 4 accident in antioch has cleared

trayvon was shot. meanwhile, a witness claiming he saw zimmerman. >> the guy at the bottom who had a red sweater on was yelling help, help. i told him to stop and i was calling police. >> reporter: police say zimmerman was wearing a red sweater and that he had suffered injuries. an iraqi woman found beaten in her san diego county home has now died. and police say she may be the victim of a hate crime. the family of 32-year-old says she was found dead. a note around the woman said it

>> president obama also visited troops. he told the troops there they are on freedom's frontier. it appears north korea is planning to move away with that controversial launch. these are satellite images of possible launch sites. the north had moved the main body of a rocket to a new launching station in a village in north western north korea. thousands of people took to the streets to denounce racism and violence. the march follows the shooting of three children and a rabbi. the suspect was killed by police on thursday. his brother is now in custody accused of aiding bara. in chile, lots of shaking and frayed nerves when an earthquake shook the country. there were no reports, immediate reports of deaths or major damage. the quake was centered about 16

right now you see rain being detectedded around santa clarita, los angeles. we still have lingering clouds. here is a look at some of the rainfall totals over the last two days. weekend totals very impressive amounts. san francisco, oakland, san rafael, santa rosa, napa all over an inch of rain over the past several days. santa fe at 8.75. the clouds breaking up by mid- to late afternoon. we had a few showers earlier today but all that activity shifting to the south and east. cool air remains in place. as a result the temperatures tomorrow morning low to mid- 30s. san francisco at 25 degrees. san jose right around 21. our old system continues to head to the south and east. our next one developing out to the pacific. tomorrow though, increase in high clouds. then into tuesday, look what happens. this area of low pressure sets

up shop to the west of mendecino. now with that we're going to generate moderate to heavy rainfall. especially in places to the north bay. that rain line spreads to the south on tuesday and still lingering showers as we head into wednesday. we'll be watching that especially north of the golden gate bridge adds we head into the tuesday forecast. first thing tomorrow morning, no rain drops to worry about. just a few extra high clouds by 7:00. those high clouds will continue to filter into the bay area into the afternoon hours. you will notice the rain showers beginning to approach to the north. there's the biggest perspective as we head into tuesday. it'll take its time to get to the south bay. rainfall not expected until mid- to late tuesday afternoon. still rain showers spreading to the south.

that will set the stage for an unsettled wednesday. forecast highs for tomorrow, up from today's highs. that means 50s to 60s degrees. san jose will go 60, half-moon bay 57. here's a look ahead. there's that rain cloud, rainfall developing into tuesday. showers likely for wednesday. off and on. thursday the forecast models backing off in the shower potential still a chance that we're going to pull back on the probability a bit. over the next few days, tuesday will be the rainy day here in the bay area especially north of the golden gate bridge. >> thank you,
