monster surf and dangerous rip currents to the bay area coast. ktvu's jade hernandez begins our san francisco coverage from pacifica. >> reporter: a few hours ago in pacifica, the waves became an attraction. >> the waves are pretty good, so brought the family down here. >> reporter: the best part about huge waves. >> you can get wet. >> reporter: minutes later the strong winds and rains forced these two back to safety. the rain are others further north work and we warmed the harain county public works crew move it off the panoramic highway and clean it off so the shovels could come out. cries worked to clear this mudslide located three miles from stinson beach from the pantoll campground around 4:00 this evening. >> they said good chance because the water is still come down from the hillside that more of that loose shale will fall. >> reporter: crews shutdown the road after 1:00 this afternoon. >> when the ground gets saturated, which it did many last ten days or so, what happens is we have to come out

and do patrols at all-times, especially during the wind. if you mix wind and water, look at what happens. >> reporter: across the bay area, the wet conditions soaking in, and in oakland umbrellas were everywhere, as rain fell steadily for hours. falling limbs were hazards some of the east bay couldn't anticipate. we have all of our lights tonight on the water, so you can see just how big these waves are. and we have seen some pretty big ones. this one advises the rip currents and sneaker waves and danger to anyone who gets too close to the water's edge. this warning is in effect until monday morning at 5:00 a.m. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news. and in sonoma county crews say it will probably be a couple more hours before highway 128 is re-opened and power back on for dozens of people. it's been an all day effort to clear the roadway after a huge

tree fell this morning, just west of the cloverdale. the tree took down phone and power lines and a neighbor who lives about 100 yards away, says by the sound of, it she thought the tree landed on her house. >> it's a huge tree and it looks like another one is going to fall on top of it. [ laughter ] so we're a little concerned about having power here over the next couple of days. >> reporter: about 91 customers in that area were without power at last check. the last band of rainfall beginning to move across the bay area and, in fact, beginning to move out of the bay area right now. that sarah a very active day today. looking at some of the rainfall totalses you can see, over the past 24 horizon, the bulk of the rainfall happened this morning. san francisco picked up over .5", redwood city, .63" and san josi, .29". here is latest right now on live stormtracker radar, you

can see the main action toward ours south, but still a few scattered showers around the bay and inland valleys, closer to danville, we can have wet roadways with the radar show activity. to the south of san josi, around morgan hill, look for an increase in the rainfall rates in the short-terms that last band of moisture continues to move out of the bayer. coming up, i will let you know if your umbrella will break with rain for the second half of the weekend and when 70- degree weather returns. the rain and wind forces the cancellation of dozens of flights at san francisco international airport. as john sasaki found out some spring-break blarn put plans. >> they flew to cabo san

rough seas hundreds of miles west of san francisco. of the 68' yacht is taking part in the clipper 11-12at race from china to oakland. last night some of the lead boats passed through the golden gate to jack london square. it injured four of the 13 crew members. disabledaty 400 miles over shore. antioch police say a gunman remains on the loose, following a deadly bar fight. investigators say he a group of men were kicked out of saloon and some came back with baseball bats and started a fight. police say one of the men pulled out a gun and killed a 38-year-old man. the victim has not yet been identify. and fairfield police are investigator earnings guidance stabbing that left a woman dead. officers say the victim's foody was found behind a home this morning on 4th and idaho streets.

the woman's name has not been reitzed, but investigators say she is between 18 and 20 years old. tonight we're still waiting to shear from the flee big winners of last night's mega millions jackpot. lottery officials say one winning ticket was sold at this motomart outside of st. louis of the others were sold in maryland and kansas. the jackpot rose to $656 million which $1.5 billion worth of tickets sold. the kansas and maryland winners can remain anonymous. however, lottery winners are publicly identified in illinois. in california, 29 people matched five of the six numbers winning nearly $230,000 a piece. five those tickets were sold at bay area condition venus stores in san rafael, san francisco, sunnyvale and san josi.

and planned to end it, but the wet and windy weather forced elfie to stay in hospital. we have posted michelle obama's entire peach from this morning on our website on ktvu.com. employees were back to work at a vallejo food processing plant following an apparent carbon dioxide leak. more than 100 workers were sent to the hospital with nausea and trouble breathing. also in vallejo, police raided a medical marijuana dispensary for the second time in just a month. officer as rested the owner and three workers yesterday afternoon on suspicion of selling marijuana. the dispensary was first shutdown february 29th, but recently re-opened its doors. an attorney for better health group says no cease and dissift issue was ordered. city workers in sant rose

have agreed to more pay cuts. officials say a tentative agreement has been reached for 800 of the city's employees. the deal includes a pay cut of more than 3%, mostly through furlough days and a freeze on wage increases. new agreement is expected to save the cash-strap city $2.2 million. in richmond the san francisco chronicle reports mobley was charged with assaulting a federal officer. mobley was charged with aiding and abetting and in that crime and a third person was seriously wound when he was shot by an undercover atf agent. for the fifth day in a row, volunteers combed through hills and fields in the south bay, searching for missing teenager sierra lamar. more than 500 people turned out to help. ktvu's allie rasmus was there and tells us about the upcoming

shift in the search effort. >> reporter: search volunteers kept their rain gear on as they trudged through the mud. >> we're just here for sierra. >> reporter: 15-year-old sierra lamar has been missing for more than two weeks and since tuesday the klaas foundation has organized search parties. >> have been on teams with people that have taken off work and everybody that i have been with just wants to help. >> reporter: yesterday 750 people registered to volunteer. this morning the sierra search center was buzz with with activity again. 49ers quarterback alex smith was among the people donating food, supply and time. they prepared search assignments for as many as a thousand people. the rainy weather did dampen some of the turnout and some of the search areas had to be scaled back. >> we'll be sticking more to flat lands and staying

off of ridges and hills. >> reporter: after tomorrow the daily search parties will end. >> i think we'll probably move more to a weekend search kind of dynamic. >> there are a lot of factors to be taken into consideration, not least is the burnout factor. we want people to say fresh and enthusiastic. >> reporter: in the weeks ahead it will be sierra's friends and families taking lead and organizing searching, but still working closely with the klaas foundation. >> it's a little overwhelming, but i feel good that we have people in place and we're always looking for more. >> reporter: in morgan hill, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. prosecutors have charged an oakland man in connection with two separate attacks on women in emeryville earlier this month. 30-year-old bashar aremu was charged. now one of those charges carries a sentence of life in

prison. aremu is being held without bail and is scheduled to enter a plea april 12th. if family a 6-year-old girl het and killed by a car on her way to school has made a wrongful death claim against the city. sioreli torres was in the crosswalk last september just a few step ways from her mother when she was hit. claim will be presented to the city council on tuesday and the family attorney says if that claim is rejected the family plans to suit city. a brutal beating outside of dodger stadium leads to a fundraiser and the one thing organizers want to happen when it comes to traumatic brain injury. >> all i remember is falling, but not falling like i caught an edge. >> a little later an incredible story of survival, following an avalanche in the

remember the faces of the ski patrollers, and seeing like an army of people. >> reporter: amazingly, kirstin survived with just a bruised lung and temporary nerve damage, but recovery will take time. >> you just can't shut the replay off in your head. >> it's hard to sleep, kind of right back there. >> reporter: they have since had tearful reunions with the men responsible for saving her life she made for several reasons. this video shows just how close they were to the chairlift, allowing people to hear their calls for help and even though she was buried for element 30 minutes the ski patrol got her breathing again. >> the lesson here may be that we did everything correctly. we stayed together. >> reporter: but even as they fight the nightmares, even as they hold their children and each other tighter, they still lover that mountain, but now, the mountain looks different. because they know the beauty that they can see, always comes

still a few showers showing up right now on live stormtracker 2 radar. the coverage has been increasing a bit over the past hour or two. a little bit of activity in the north bay and around san francisco, approaching the bay bridge and we'll shift the maps out to the east bay for the inland valleys. just to the north and east of livermore and around danville and the clayton area, enough to wet the roadways. bag in the maps, you can pick out the activity approaching gilroy in fact, as we come in tighter. 101, wet roads and increase in the rainfall rates. up the peninsula, you can pick out closer to redwood city. still scattered showers in the forecast over the next two to three hours. this was the time-lapse today. you can see the clouds pushing across the bay and also gusty winds, especially for this morning. we had some very impressive gusts. 58 miles per hour, golden gate bridge at between

7-8, 55 miles per hour. the winds associated with the storm really bumping up the sushch and as a result, this is not a high-surf advisory, but elevated up a level. a high surf warning until 5:00 monday morning because the seas will be building upwards over 20', peaking first thing tomorrow morning. just be extra careful near the immediate shoreline for tomorrow with the waves really building. overnights lows, coolest locations in the upper 30s for santa rosa, napa, oakland in the mid-40s. here is the storm system moving across the bay area. that front is heading out to the south an to the east. we still have this area of low pressure. this is producing the showers we have right now and the possibility of an isolated thunderstorm. that is just with the short- term. for tomorrow it will be dry as high pressure returns, still a winter storm warning in place for the west slopes of
