mitt romney reaches the magic number, tonight he secured the final delegates needed for the gop nomination. good evening i'm julie haener. >> and i'm frank somerville. a victory tonight in texas put mitt romney over the top. he now has secured enough committed delegates to be the republican candidate for president. romney's win gives him 1,183 delegates surpassing the number he needed. he issued a statement saying quote i have no illusions about

the difficulties of the task before us but we will settle for nothing less than getting america back on the path to full imemployment and prosperity. romney says he is honored and humbled to face off against president obama. >> reporter: behind me is the gate where the 65,000 square foot carolyn mansion reside. and that is where mitt romney will hold his fundraiser tomorrow night. ticket prices cost as much as $50,000 for tomorrow night's event. it's not clear if the fundraiser will be held in the 75-foot tall atrium or one of the other sprawling rooming.

higher. the nasdaq rose 23. one positive report was an increase in home prices. the news isn't so bright for facebook it stock took another hit today closing below $30 for the first time. the stock lost $3 or about 9% today. since it debuted may 18th it is down 24%. the slide in facebook's fortune comes as the city of menlo park considered a major expansion of facebook's headquarters. lloyd lacuesta live in menlo park where he learned the outcome of that vote within the past hour, lloyd. >> reporter: it's thumbs up for facebook the menlo city park city council unanimously approved a deal that allows facebook to expands it's two campuses here and could potentially bring more than 9,000 employees to this city. >> so i think facebook set out to be a good neighbor, i think they have proven already to be a good neighbor. >> reporter: but some tonight question the environmental report and developed an agreement facebook has worked

resulted in a significant drop in homicides in oakland over the past month. new details tonight about officer involved shootings that have claimed the lives of two men. 53-year-old peter mestler was dispondent over his upcoming divorce when he faced officers. the other, harris was shot and killed by police. he worked at a napa winery for 10 years. police say an officer thought barrett was drawing a gun but it turned out to be his wallet. barrett was the foreman and was well liked. san jose police was trying to determine tonight if a man found dead in a pond was the victim of a homicide.

the santa clara county's sheriff dive team searched the pond shortly at 10:00 this morning. investigators believe it was the same man reported missing in this area. that's why they're treating this case as a homicide. >> he was found basically deceased at the bottom of a percolation pond. >> the search led many people to believe of the teenager sierra lamar. police in concord have not yet decided whether to recommend charges against the teenage driver who's vehicle struck and killed a father and daughter who were out riding their bicycles. the deadly crash happened almost two months ago. ever since ktvu's eric rasmussen has been pressing police for information and he found the slow pace of the investigation is due in part to a question of speed. >> reporter: when this white

cadillac escalate crashed on tree boulevard in early april killing muri and his daughter, witnesses say the 17-year-old driver was going well above the posted 45-mile-per-hour speed limit and everybody thought justice would be swift. >> an individual cannot drive down the street, kill two people and nothing happen. >> reporter: the young driver was released from juvenile hall a few days after the crash and nearly eight weeks later still hasn't been charged with anything. that's why we're not identifying him. a friend and neighbor of the victim steve saez is among those growing inpatient. >> to see it just go on as long as it has with no results, it's pretty frustrating. >> i can appreciate the concern but as an agency this is clearly our top focus and priority to have this done completely and accurately. >> reporter: concord police say they've been in touch with the victim's family and now say they are closer to taking the

on the chopping block, debra. >> reporter: fire equipment too like this, worn out, needs replacing but it's going to have to wait. alameda is finding it's savings in its fire houses and behind bars too. inside the alameda police department a mini jail. 12 cells with a maximum stay of 96 hours this is where prisoners sit before bail or a court appearance. soon they will go straight to jail. the lock up is expensive because it has six civilian jailers on the payroll. >> they will be let go. they will be laid off. >> reporter: a shame says the chief, but the jail averages only two inmates a day. >> you have to look at the

villalon, ktvu news. a new poll suggests the majority of california voters support governor brown's tax hikes. 59% of likely voters favor the ballot initiative that would temporarily raise the sales tax and tax high wage earners. california faces a budget deficit of $16 billion. governor brown is starting an investigation. the ap says only 40% of the 15 million collected so far has gone to anti terror programs. they were supposed to get 85%. and almost none has gone to pay for scholarships from children from california who lost their parents in the attacks as was supposed to happen. the rest was reportedly used to reduce the state's budget deficit or to pay for other budget items. the california high speed

rail process has a new boss, he's jeff morales. morales has previously worked on president obama's transition team. morales said he was honored and looked forward to working on the high speed rail project. it appears more drivers acted responsibly this memorial day weekend. that is down from 119 arrests made at the same time last year. two fatal crashes were reported over the weekend the same as last year. a player on the san jose saber cats who played a key role in the team's most recent win was found dead in a hotel room last night. jana katsuyama is joins us with

what police are saying about the death. >> reporter: last night santa clara police were called to the inn where the team players stay. >> a little after 11:00 our officers were call to the hotel to investigate a reported dead body. >> reporter: police say they found the 26-year-old dead in his hotel room. >> they started an investigation. there's no evidence of any foul play at this point. >> reporter: police are waiting now for the coroner's report and toxicology tests. the staff and team were too upset to talk on camera today but the coach and owner did issue a statement saying quote, johnny was a great team guy and hard-nosed player and he will be sorely missed. our soughts and prayers go out to his family during this difficult time. >> they would come out and have breakfast, they go out and have

practice, nice guys. real representable nice guys. >> reporter: curtain's parents and four siblings live in washington state he also has a 4-year-old daughter. the team plans to honor him by wearing his number on their helmets. a 6-year-old boy injured in a car accident in berkeley has died. berkeley police say little xavier chavez died friday at children's hospital. his mother who was in the car died at the scene. the accident happened may 18th in austin when a cadillac driven by 24-year-old jose lombreros crashed into a round about and plowed into a tree. lombreros was critically injured and is now facing charging including vehicle manslaughter and drunk driving. and a pretty good holiday weekend after that temperatures on the warm up. they started warming up yesterday but today we got up to 80 degrees in fairfield, 80

he has just learned that the committee has chosen july 16th. holding a photo on the sheriff and his wife on the day he was sworn in. >> i voted for him as sheriff, i believe the people's voice should override what the mayor thinks. he was an elected official. >> reporter: supporters were also vocal at tonight's meeting. the commission tried to determine which witnesses will be allowed to testify. >> and i do wish the audience would let us proceed. >> reporter: audience members held signs in spoát -- support of lopez, the sheriff's wife. the committee decided who will be allowed to testify. >> in an effort to tar the

unedited video from today's report. and mirkarimi's entrance to applause. and you can look closely because that is one of two suspects behind the wheel of the stolen car. police say two young latinos with handguns took the car from a woman at east shore state park in berkeley last wednesday. one of them had a tattoo on his left arm showing a word written in old english type face. a principal at a san francisco elementary school pleaded not guilty to dui and hit-and-run charges. sheila moloski that's her right there in the brown jacket sideswiped two cars near the golden gate bridge earlier this month and then kept right ongoing. moloski had a blood alcohol level higher than the legal

in vallejo schoolyard bullies are being caught on tape and in this case the bullies are middle schoolers. the mother of one of those victims posted the video online. >> reporter: julian told me she began attending middle school in january and that on her second day of class this happened. the video shows mayhem and she was in the middle of it. a week later video of another attack. the video made the round on the social network but the victim's mother has posted it on change.org to create awareness about bullying. >> at first i was just so outraged. but then i thought, you know what you've a story --

school. lasarus villareal was 16 years old when prosecutors say he and another teen torched a school in san jose. the fire caused $30 million in damage. the school has since been rebuilt. they plan to reopen this fall. federal prosecutors rested their case today in the roger clemens trial. the former pitcher is accused of perjury. sb1390 would allow sports betting at locations that already have gambling licenses. a 1942 law forbids betting in all but nine states. new jersey is trying to get the law overturned until that happens, there can be no legal sports betting in california.

the bill passed on a 33-2 vote today and now heads to the assembly. a usc los angeles time poll suggests half of california voters would favor legalization of online gambling. if it raised money for education, other government services. opponents say online gambles sets a bad example for young people. now since state lawmakers are trying to figure out a way to bypass that law. state lawmakers are rushing to meet a friday deadline for hundreds of pieces of legislation. both houses convened. nearly 400 bills are still waiting to be considered by senate and assembly members. if they don't pass by this friday those bills will die. >> i think that we are on target in trying to move these bills along in a fast clip. >> reporter: legislations being considered includes 2012 which

the private company that successfully sent a capsule to the international space station says it has a contract for a new rocket that will be one of the powerful ever bit. space x calls this new rocket falcon heavy. it says it'll be the most powerful rocket currently in use. second only to the saturn five rockets that were used to sent astronauts to the moon. they will be used to carry a communication rocket to the space station. more than 100 people were killed, many of them execution style and about a third of them were children in syria. syria's president has denied any role in the massacre. in italy, strong aftershocks rattled much of the country today. several victims were working inside large warehouses. one woman was found alive in

certified that they are 100% safe. >> the sacramento bee says caltrans failed to conduct some of the tests on the 13 towers. spokesman bart ney says those tests were voluntary and he's calling that report inaccurate. welcome back, we have fog coming back in at the coast tonight. we have clearing but the fog is returning. we go to storm tracker. gusting out of the west at about 22 miles per hour. so the winds are coming like this. and i've got fog right now showing up at ocean beach all the way south toward pacifica. right in this area so it's just filling in. that fog will fill in along the the headlands and marin. fog back in the forecast but i don't think we'll see the significant fog into the morgan hill area and into the san jose area. i think it'll be right around the bay and the coast. not as big push inland. 40s that's kind of cool for

this time of year. forecast for tonight for the fog to return. the morning starts off with a little bit of clouds and low fog. sun comes out quicker tomorrow. temperatures tomorrow as i pointed out earlier are going to come up a good five degrees in both locations. kind of interesting i expected it to fill in a little bit more. you see it notching out. that will be those winds starting to clock out. those winds are going to clear the fog late in the day and we're going to see temperatures starting to show up 90s in the central valleys and that heat slowly going to make its way west in our direction. tomorrow it starts, it started a little today but those strong winds will start kicking up, that will get things warming up. as you get past the tri valley you're going to start finding the 80s that's tomorrow. warmer as we go into your
