complete bay area coverage starts now. this is the 10:00 news on ktvu. >> a shark attacks a kayaker. good evening. i'm ken wade. >> and i'm heather holmes. the 52-year-old man had a great scare when it tried to take a bite out of its kayak. it happened near santa cruz in an area that is popular for surfers. eric rasmussen is there live. >> reporter: this happened behind a kilt bed about a quart mile from here. there happened to be a shark expert doing research and he rushed or here when he heard

about the attack. in the middle of a surfing hot spot near santa cruz it was a kayak attacked by a shark. police pulled the boat out of evidence to show us the bite marks. >> he had started to paddle and go through the water will a shark grabbed the front end of it. >> reporter: wildlife experts spoke to the man. the 52-year-old fisherman from fremont was thrown from the kayak and unharmed when another boater rescued him. >> it was a white shark looking at the width of the tooth. >> reporter: police photographed a shark tooth they found lodged in the kayak. despite warnings from the sheriff's office, surfers and boogie borders flocked there. >> it is scary but i will be out here tomorrow morning. i know that sharks are out

here. >> experts say a larger than usual amount of wildlife in the bay may have brought the shark into shallow water but the risk of another attack remains low. >> sightings are common. >> the kayaker did not want to be identified. they be holding on to his kayak in case others want to examine it closer. there was a fatal shark attack more than 30 years ago in pacific grove. 25miles south of pleasure point in 1991, 25-year-old lewis moore was attacked by a great white shark. he was estimated to be 21 feet long. prior to his death there was only 4 fatal shark attacks and none of victims were surfers. there was a body recovered

in marin county. it came in on the peninsula north of elephant rock. fire officials say they received a report of a missing man, possibly a fisherman. about an hour later someone spot add body. swimmers covered the remains, there is no word on the victim's identity or how he came to be in the water. part of san jose's busy willow glen neighborhood was shut down because of a bomb scare. san jose police were called about 12:25 to investigate a suitcase found near a bench among the 1100 block. police evacuated shops while the bomb squad took over. the suitcase contained a type writer. investigators don suspect anything criminal was going on. oakland police was alerted to a drive-by shooting. it happened at 3:00 p.m. on 73rd avenue. one man was shot. witnesses say he was able to

make it to a nearby store when he told the merchant to call for an ambulance. the victim was sitting on the couch when someone opened fire. there was reports that a second person may have been hit but police were able to locate one victim. his injuries are not life threatening. police crisscrossed oakland responding to three different home sides in five hours. the latest killing was at 24th avenue around 11:00 last night. there were two more deadly shootings earlier. the victim's names have not been released and police say they made only one arrest. san francisco police are investigating a shooting that left a teenager injured. the teen was standing with the a relative at san bruno and felton street when he was shot. it happened about 5:30. was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound. the gunman fled on foot.

occupy protesters returned to a five acre plot of land in albany, the same site kicked out of last may. we found out why they returned and what they are demanding now. >> reporter: they picked baskets full of crops. 80 protesters with the group occupied the farm that came back to the gil track. >> we got cucumbers and parsley and baseley. >> reporter: this is uc berkeley owned land within albany city limits. occupy the farm moved in with the goal of converting it to an urban farm. the group planted 70 rows of crops and camped out and tended to the crops until the protests came to an end on may 14th. university forced the protesters out but kept the crops alive. >> we are creating a small work group and we are going to be harvesting and weeding. >> reporter: the protesters were not invited. >> they are harvesting the crops that we planted in early

may. >> reporter: university officials and albany city leadings planned a par vessing party and canceled it when they learned that protesters planned to show. >> i think that dean felt the tensions were too high. >> reporter: they want all future volunteers to go through an application process. you have to be an albany resident and can't be supportive of occupy the farm. >> we wanted to be able to trust people to be respectful. >> reporter: occupy the farm still wants this land to become a community garden. >> you will be back. >> we are committed to weeding and harvesting because that is what the plants need. >> reporter: albany city council member joe ann while says the city wants an urban farm but at the root of this conflict is how and who would be in charge of running it. more details now, the albany city council is considering approval of a new whole food store south of the gil track area. the grocery store and assisted living housing complex would be

that controversy the suicide barrier on the golden gate bridge could be one step

closer to completion. president obama yesterday signed a transportation bill that provides federal funding for suicide prevention including safety rails and nets on bridges. the suicide barrier for the bridge will cost an estimated $50 million. critics of the barrier say it would mar the beauty of the bridge, supporters say it would save dozens of lives. today those buried in a cemetery recently discovered that they will be remembered. the ceremony comes as crews prepare to remove those coffins. an emotional service to honor the unknown. as a bishop blessed the site more than one hundred pete gathered. community leaders from various faiths offered prayers for the hundreds of people buried here and most of them poor and many nameless when they died. we ask the lord to con to

and began to struggle. it was during the struggle that other officer drew his weapon and fired several shots killing the armed man. the other man was detained. police say he was not armed. volunteers set out to search for missing teenager sierra lamar. organizers are putting together volunteer searches hoping to find any sign of the girl. this morning another group of volunteers held a carwash to raise money for the continued search efforts. sierra was last seen on march 16th as she left for school. garcia torres has been arrested on suspicion of killing sierra. despite that, friends and family are holding out hopes she will be found alive. a san francisco supervisor reopening ceremony grew quite a crowd. musicians and lion dancers were on hand for the opening of eric marrs campaign office. elected four years ago to

pretty chilly for santa rosa and right around the bay. there is a weather system out here to the north and west. this will coal us off a little bit. the warmest location in the lower 90s. here is the deal with high pressure returning. this is the system responsible for the warmup across parts of the country this past week. this edge is closer to the state and you can see the trend warming up a bit into monday. not too much but look what happens into tuesday. a big bound from the readings, tuesday, wednesday and thursday hot numbers and inland in the 90s. here is the microclimate, at least fog cosi and temperatures in the 60s to the lower 70s by midweek. we will have options. here is the forecast model showing you dense fog once again tomorrow morning, a few patches could be sneaking into the bay right across the golden gate bridge and clouds in the shoreline into the afternoon and this red contour links up to the 90s. warmest locations around the 90-
