albany, i'm heather holmes. wilfredo "flaco" reyes is awaiting sentencing. ramos received that it was reyes who was the actual killer. and ramos attorney is suspicious about the timing of this arrest. >> one can only think they put off arresting this man because they knew if they got them in during edwin's trial the truth would come out that edward did not murder the bolonia family. jury section got under way in hayward in a wrongful death lawsuit against hanz riser. he was convicted of killing his wife nina in 2008 as the two were in the process of getting divorced. the suit filed on behalf of his

expenses. there will be a memorial tomorrow at the pittsburgh chapel. the public is invited. amber lee, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police say that autopsy results should help determine what happened to a man found dead along a walking trial. the body was discovered about 5:30 on the west side of the park on 44th avenue. police say the death is suspicious but would not elaborate. san francisco police also say they are pursuing new leads with connection with the running who died following this year's beta breakers foot race. the man suspected of punching 31-year-old steven martin of santa clara seen here in the green wig and causing him to fall on his death may also been responsible for cell phone thefts. >> that could prove very beneficial in the case.

>> reporter: police are also asking anyone who had their cell phones stolen to come forward. police also want to talk to a group of people playing frisbie near martin and his friends before being assaulted. governor jerry brown won a round in the court giving his tax initiative top billing in the ballot. brown's initiative will be placed first out of 10 initiatives and referendums. the governor's initiative would raise salings tax for those earning $250,000. governor brown says pension reform is also necessary to get california's financial house in order. our ktvu field poll find support for two pension report

proposals. 67% support an actual limit when calculating pensions. president obama's next trip to the bay area is expected to focus on oakland. we're told the president will be here july 23rd and take part in a round table discuss about tech issues. he will also attend a fundraiser at the fox theater. tickets raise from $100 to $35,000. sources say a private reception and dinner will follow at a home in the east pay. coming up in 16 minutes, president obama's plan to extend tax cuts but only for some americans. also, mitt romney's reaction. air tankers from around northern california are working to put out a fire that has now burned 3,700 acres in calusa county. smoke from the fire is billowing from an area near maxwell over the upper sacramento valley. firefighters are reporting some progress tonight. they say the fire is now 65%

contained. ken pritchett spoke to firefighters today on the front lines. >> here this afternoon you can see one arm of the fire burning down a hillside and that's by design. calfire used helicopter water drops to shape the fire's edge, and inmate crews to clear out a line ahead of the fire to box it in and stop it cold. this is called the site's complex because it started as five fires. >> three of the fires were contained yesterday, the other two have now burned together as one. >> this is video from last night just hours after the fire started despite the intensity you see here, calfire said it made contact last night but the fire roared down today. >> with these triple digit temperatures it's a major challenge. >> reporter: the cause is unknown, so far calfire had fought twice as many fires at this time as compared to last year but most have been small until now. >> because we didn't get a lot of rainfall this winter, the

grass, the brush is already to burn and with just a little bit of wind that's all it needs for this type of fire to take off. >> reporter: as you look at the car and smoke that's actually coming from two fires off to in the distance to the mendecino. as of this afternoon was only a 10% containment. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. more details now on that fire, a huge dc10 air tanker is now on hand to help battle the flames. it can drop as much as 12,000- gallons of fire retardant in as little as eight seconds. calfire says the plane is only used in extreme situations. in santa clara today supporters of the new 49ers stadium expressed anger that a board voted to redirect millions slated for that project. construction is already on the

new at 10:00 tonight, city college of san francisco has just eight months now to come up with a new plan to save money and restructure its leadership or it could be forced to close leaving 90,000 students behind. ktvu's ken wayne is live in the city tonight where hundreds of people came out calling for city college to be saved. ken. >> reporter: frank, tonight saw the first major rally in a

campaign to keep the doors open at one of the country's largest colleges. >> students make some noise. >> reporter: it was part pep rally, part call to action. about 200 people gathered into this market street conference room to come up with ways to save city college of san francisco. >> one in three san franciscos has been to city college either taken a class or transferred to a four year. so city college does play a big role in many people's lives. >> reporter: the commission that accredits colleges says city college is at financial risk and suffers from leadership issues and if the problems aren't fixed the college will lose accreditation. without it city college cannot receive funding and could shut down by next march. eric mars says the school has already made drastic changes. >> costs have gone up from $26

to $36 per unit. >> reporter: staff say they have also made sacrifices. >> we haven't had a raise in the last five years, and in the last years we've been reaching into our pockets to try to keep the college afloat. >> we've eliminated 700 classes for the coming fall. >> reporter: nonetheless the president of the college board of trustees says there is more financial fixes available and he doesn't think city college will be forced to close. >> the imminent demise of the college is not the case. >> reporter: john rizo says a meeting is planned tomorrow with a group nicknamed the s.w.a.t. team. those colleges will sit down and begin the process of finding -r ways to save money and address leadership issues they must have an action plan in place by october 18th. ken wayne, ktvu news. the financially troubled postal service announced it is

planning to sell eight properties. the postal service has warned for years it's in dire financial shape. executives hope to cut $22 billion in costs by 2015. other properties for sale include hamilton street in palo alto, bohannon drive, d street, harbor drive, park road, stone pine road, and eight street with an asking price of $2.3 million. the social sharing website pinterest is moving to san francisco. right now pinterest is based in palo alto. the site lets users share their favorite things on the web. a new social media site just for lady gaga fans the bay area companies site that's

helping the star rewrite the rules. lance armstrong went to court to try to save his tour de france titles. a u.s. district court judge in austin dismissed a lawsuit filed by lance armstrong trying to block the latest doping charges against him. the allegations were made in june by the u.s. anti doping agency and they could strip him of his seven tour de france victories. attorneys for armstrong said they will refile the lawsuit possibly as early as tomorrow. thousands of people across the nation have fallen victim to a scam bearing president obama's name. new at 10:00, rita williams talked with two friends here in the bay area about how they got caught in the scam. >> the president wants to pay your utility bills, what a deal. no wonder these three oakland neighbors couldn't wait to spread the good news. >> who found out first? >> i did. >> reporter: you told -- >> me. >> reporter: and then you told.

>> me. >> reporter: so maisha long went online to pay her pg & e using the federal aid program. when asked for a routing number for her bank account she typed in this number, her neighbors gave her. then her social security number and bingo a confirmation, the bill was paid in full. >> i get a phone call this morning and it's -- >> reporter: from? >> it's from my neighbor and it's a scam. >> reporter: a home health worker and single mom is a tearful and fearful victim of identity theft, why did she believe this scam was real? >> because it's the president. >> reporter: and she's not alone. the heat wave big utility bills and bad economy have left many thousands of victims at this scam across the country. >> folks who may have been impacted by this let us know, let law enforcement know. >> reporter: and president obama may be a victim too. >> i'm not voting for him at

all. >> reporter: because of this? >> yeah because of this. >> reporter: these women say they hope by speaking out they will keep others from becoming victims of what's being called the obama utility scam. in oakland, rita williams. >> reporter: a fire in the mendecino national forest may be growing tonight and evacuations are in place. so far national forest officials say they can only estimate that about 2,500 acres have burned. campgrounds have been closed and several communities have now been evacuated. the fire started on saturday at this point the cause is still not known. bay area air quality management officials have designated tomorrow as a spare the air day. district officials are urging people to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day because of high levels of ground level ozone. they are also asking people to limit your driving if possible and avoid using gas powered tools. they say those efforts really

help lower smog levels. and that spare the air day is coming about because the air is going to compress, it's going to sink and it's going to warm. not so much today. it was hot inland but temperatures mostly in the 70s and 80s in the bay. but tomorrow a complete difference. what happens is the high pressure sets up, compresses the fog. it keeps it down below the coastal hills. keeps that cooling influence from going inland. when the air compresses it sinks and warms. temperatures tomorrow in the inland valleys. we might see triple digits as we go through the week. i'll have all the complete forecast details back here at 10:45. an orange county bomb squad detonated six grenades found underneath a ditch. that's about 35 miles southeast of los angeles. the fbi was called in to investigate because there was a large number of the devices.

tensions were running high and soon fists started flying it happened outside a courtroom in florida today. two families showed up for a hearing in a double homicide case in which the stand your ground law is being sited. the hearing was cancelled but an argument followed and then that fight broke out. deputies there drew tasers but didn't use them. three people were taken into custody. a thief with a portion to direction snatched a purse then ran right to the police station. a ktvu camera was there and brought us these pictures as the arrest happened. the victim waved the police officer down and about 20 officers rushed in to help. the suspect was arrested and the stolen items recovered. in news of the world tonight in the middle east the palestinian authority has

approved the exhumation of the former leader arafat. they found polonium in some of his personal belongings. they want to see if the death resulted from radio active poisoning. the question then would be who poisoned him. in afghanistan, a man hunt is under way for the taliban fighters who executed a woman in public and video taped it. the young woman was shot to death after being accused of adultery. dozens of men watched and cheered as it happened. afghan officials say they won't tolerate such killings. those killings were fairly common under taliban rule. a man from new jersey and two britains were gored today in the running of the bulls in pamplona. all were gored in the leg. these were the most gorings during the runs this year. a popular family winery in el dorado county burned to the ground over the weekend but

today the owners vowed to rebuild. the fire started at the oak stone winery saturday morning. they heard some sort of explosion. people stop bid the winery to offer words of support. the owner says she is still in shock. >> it was just all over in one morning. >> firefighters did keep the flames from spreading through the vineyards but no word yet on what caused if fire. a sacramento resident has filed a lawsuit against hyundai. the suit accuses hyundai of advertising the 2011 and 2012elantra as a 40-mile per gallon car. the federal mileage estimated for city driving is 29 miles for those cars.
