. complete bay area news coverage starts right now. this is the 10:00 news on kutv channel 2. breaking news on the bay bridge a major back-up right now after a spill prompts crews to close down throw lanes of the upper deck. good evening, i'm ken wayne. >> hello again everyone i'm heather holmes and we begin with that breaking news happening on the bay bridge. there were three lanes of the upper deck of the bridge blocked by some kind of spill. this is the westbound direction heading into san francisco. all of those red lines you see on the top. within the last 20 minutes the lanes were cleared and re- opened and as you can see it's caused a major back-up on the span and at the toll plaza. take a look at that back-up

there. drivers, you are expectf warned to expect delays trying to get into san francisco tonight. now to the latest on the fight over foie gras. a legal loophole has put the delicacy back on the menu and protesters back on the attack with one of them getting arrested. it all happened tonight in san francisco. ktvu's debora villone to explain how foie gras is being served despite a state ban. >> reporter: ken this could be contraband, almost anywhere else. foie gras slider served at the presidio social club that says its sketch from state law because it's on federal property. . we'll have that story in just a few minutes, as soon as

more details now on another restaurant, allegedly trying to find a way aroutine foie gras ban. this restaurant was the target of a demonstration by animal rights activists. chefs say that they are serving liver pate as part of their $130 tasting menu. but the restaurant says it's not violating the law since it's been offered free to customers and not being sold. the highway patrol is questioning a woman tonight after investigators say she was involved in a fiery crash that claims the lave santa rosa man. the accident happened just west of the irwin lane in santa rosa around 4:45 this afternoon. highway patrol investigators say woman was apparently chasing a motorcyclist at high- speed following some sort of domestic dispute. at one point she hit a lexus and then allegedly lost control of her car and hit a triumph. the triumph overturned and caught fire. the driver of that triumph, a

55-year-old man was pronounced dead at scene. investigators say alcohol or drugs may have played a role in the incident. the victim's name has not yet been released. a student pilot managed to walkway from a crash-landing in novato this afternoon with just a cut on his arm. this is what his plane looked like when emergency crews arrived at scene of the accident of the crash before 4:00 this afternoon. we first reported today at 6:00, that student pilot based on the gnoss field airport in novato. according to the manager on duty the pilot reported having some kind of engine trouble. his plane skid into the mashland nearby and flipped. >> there were several other pilots in the area that either heard or witnessed the incident. rushed over, lifted the rear of the aircraft up off the ground and that allowed pilot to exit the aircraft with only a minor injury to his hand. >> the plane is an rv7a, the

airport manager says it's an specialtial plane that the pilot assembled himself. federal aviation investigators interviewed that pilot over the phone for their investigation. airport operations at gnoss field were back to normal about an hour after the incident. we're getting word tote that that fire burning near auburn in the sierra foothills has destroyed its first home the fire has burned about 2,000 acres in placer county and still threatening more than a dozen hopes. janine de la vega reports. the fire has burned more than 950 acres and growing calfire says it's only 20% contained. >> reporter: the threat of fire prompted governor brown to add five blackhawk essex porter helicopters from the california national guard to aid in the fight to drop water on the flames. a former firefighter tells us that the pink paint hornets makes the aircrafts more visible wheel they fly through the billowing smoke. >> they are going to help us

. developing news now out bay, police are searching for i guard who opened fire on a police officer. the shoot led to a chase if benicia, where police have continuing their search for the gunman. ktvu's janine de la vega has the latest information for us. >> reporter: ken, this is still a very active scene. tension is running high among benicia police. solana county sheriff's deputies are out here and so are benicia police because they think a gunman is on the loose, somewhere here. we're told he shot at a benicia police officer, and then tried to carjack somebody here who lives in this neighborhood. now let's take a look at the video that we took earlier today. you can see there are two bullet holes in the front windshield of a benicia police car. this all started around 6:00 p.m. tonight. we're told by authorities that

a male suspect opened fire at an officer at rose drive and tyne court in benicia. we don't know the motive and we're told that power is not hurt, but authorities say the suspect fled and turned up at the complex here at benicia highlands and then tried to carjack somebody who apparently lives here and now they are looking for that gunman. there is a s.w.a.t. team out here, again as well as solano county sheriffs and other police agencies. we see them up and down cambridge, the street we're on now and they are spread throughout the city, along 780, right off of the columbus parkway exit. right now back out here live at the scene, solano county sheriff's offices and benicia police are telling people who live in this apartment complex, if they have somewhere else to go, to go there. they are telling people it's not really safe to stay there, because again, they believe that the gunman could be very close to here hiding out that is the latest reporting live
