the other politicians. >> reporter: the chief said the problem isn't political, just simple math. revenue is down 32 million for the fire protection district and without a special parcel tax he said they could have to lay off firefighters and close a third of its fire stations. >> what do you say to the taxpayer who say that seems like a scare tactic? >> it's not. it's reality. >> we have seen this coming for years. >> reporter: chris hunt with the taxpayer's association opposes idea of a parcel tax saying there is money to be saved from salaries to pension costs and use of resources. >> 3.3% of their calls are for fires. this is no longer a firefighting agency, the most expensive way of delivering emergency health caron the planet >> reporter: the chief said they have tightened their belt and this is a last resort. >> we recognize that everybody is facing financial challenges

as well. we think we have done our part to try to cut costs and control costs. >> reporter: now if it goes through the tax we are told would generate $16 million a year but first the board has to decide if they will put it on the ballot. >> more details on a tax proposal if approved it would cost most $75 a year. apartment owners $37.50 a year. the owners of commercial property, $75 per quarter acre, the it needs two thirds approval to pass. >> new video tonight of the latest killing in oakland. about 7:30 this evening a man was shot to death at 3107, 13th avenue in east oakland. his family said he was coming home from work and died right there on his doorstep. police are looking for an armed suspect who was seen running the house but have no description of the shooter. police are also checking

security cameras in the neighborhood. demonstrators were out in downtown oakland marching on broadway. they are protesting officer involved shootings in anaheim. police shot and killed two men in unrelated incidents last weekend in anaheim sparking demonstrations in orange county and cities around the country. then early this morning an anaheim police officer opened fire on a car after the driver sped toward another officer. the driver got away, it's not clear if anyone was hit. there were no reports of arrests or property damage at tonight's demonstration in oakland. >> san jose approved a permit for the new patrick casino clearing the way for a hiring boom and a new place to court lady luck. matt keller live at the matrix with the condition that will have to meet before finally opening. >> reporter: you can see that the front doors are locked from the outside but now that a

some teens pitching in to help victims families in colorado. new, deborah live where a community bike ride is set for tomorrow. >> reporter: organized by two friends who were at this theater for the batman premiere that same night and were inspired to help. neon pink signs mark the route and the last ones went up tonight for a fundraising bike ride around downtown vacaville. >> we hope to have a lot of people tomorrow. >> at least over one hundred. >> reporter: two bodies, high school seniors hatched the idea. haunted by the mayhem in colorado. they had flocked to the movie that night in their own town. >> we had a huge group of friends and we were joke around for the first two hours before the movie. when i heard the next morning it was like that could have been us. >> reporter: they decided to race money for the relief fund which is helping family was memorial services and medical

. burglars in san francisco who are striking during daylight hours and are only going after certain homes. amber lee is in one area that's been hit hard and says what police are warning homeowners not to put up in their one

windows. >> reporter: we one of several areas in san francisco that has seen many home burglaries, tonight police have a new warning. how you decorate your home may be inviting thieves. home was asian characters and decorations the target of burglars. police say there have been up to 15 home break-ins, so far this year. >> there is a perception that the community doesn't necessarily trust banks so that there -- the perception is that there is -- they showcase or store a lot of money inside the house. additionly that they have gold. >> reporter: the police captain said burglaries strike during daylight looking for sign that a home is occupied by a chinese family. in cases it was groups of three young men breaking in to homes. >> i don't worry about the safety. >> reporter: kenny moved in to the neighborhood just a few months ago. she said she heeds police warnings not to display asian

attempted murder. it's from a shooting at a party that killed three people including a 16-year-old girl. >> some volunteers in santa rosa say they are furious over revelation that the parks department had a secret bunt surplus worth millions of dollars. the state park was one of the 70 that was set to close to save money. park users organized a bike race to raise $60,000 to help keep the park open but then came word last week that the state parks department had been sitting on a 54 billion-dollar surplus, possibly for as long as 12 years. >> all of that effort was in many ways in vain is a real disappointment. you know it's hard to get that back. that energy could have been spent elsewhere. >> reporter: organizers plan to ask for their money back. instead they want to give it to the sonoma regional parks department to help run the state park. >> a man is fighting a heavy

what caused a suspicious truck fire last night. the it happened just before midnight. the truck's ghasting caught fire parked in front of a home. the fire was put out in minutes. known was hurt but officials calling the fire suspicious because just the night before the tires were stolen from that same truck. a man who died in an apartment fire wednesday has been identified. the 78-year-old was inside a second floor apartment when the two alarm fire broke out just before ten. two other men had smoke inhalation but refused to be taken to the hospital. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> in news of the world tonight in peru search teams found signs of two missing climbers missing for 16 days but the teams also found signs of avalanche. the two were attempting to climb a 20,000-foot mountain. cuers aren't holding hot much hope of finding them alive.

matt cane. mark saying -- hairston scoring the go head run. no shut out tonight and -- giants -- hang on. giants trail in the 8th when belt clutches third hit of the game. cabrera scores, we go to extra innings, the dodgers are healthy now. they just got ramirez from miami. three run shot for him. hanley and la win 5-3. giants lead by two games over the dodgers. dodgers get ramirez and the giants answered tonight by trading four scuturo, the same who laid for -- played for the a's. they do need a right hand and he is batting 271.

then pee wee can hit that in this field. a's showed their ability tonight. carter belting two run homer off orioles pitcher, part of a four run first inning for the a's. their bullpen had the second straight tough game and baltimore led until smith delivers the two out. bases loaded double. three more runs score. the a's retake the lead, 8-6. they -- oakland has to do another rally and they do. a's score six more. crisp -- a's win 14-9. a total of 34 rub runs in the last three combined. snoot 49ers opened summer camp and the coach said he has five number one receivers. if that's true veteran moss is 1a. all reports say that he has been a model citizen and teammates and -- at age 35 he could still be a play maker and game changer. randy hasn't played since 2010 when he bounced around with three different teams.
