up, up and stuck. what six flags officials are saying tonight about its new ride malfunctions stranded a dozen thrill seekers. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. it wasn't a bird or a plane that had people looking up in the sky it was the new superman roller coaster ride stuck with a dozen nervous passengers.

p atti lee is in sacramento. >> reporter: park officials have not started investigating what stopped this ride today. park officials say that will start tomorrow morning and until they find out they will keep this ride shut down. at 2:30 this afternoon with 12 people on board the ride stopped. around its highest point 150 feet off the ground. >> we arrived we put the crane that's on-site in place. we've actually done some training in case the situation arose. >> reporter: firefighters checked on the passengers while mechanics found a way to release the train and sent all guests back down the tracks ending the 90 minute ordeal. >> they all appear to be in great spirits and hopefully they are enjoying the rest of their day in the park. >> reporter: the park's president says he does not know yet what went wrong but it wasn't a mechanical situation.

>> it's brand new, it just opened you know you expect it to be safe and like not get stuck in the middle of roller coaster. >> park guests told us they were worried that rides at the park stopped regularly. >> there were problems on the cobra, and medusa and boomerang two, they weren't really working. >> reporter: but a park official says that's common and serves as a security provisions. reporting live in vallejo, patti lee, ktvu news. this is not the first time there's been roller coaster trouble at the six flags in august of 2010 the boomerang ride got stuck for about an hour with about 20 people on board. luckily it was stuck in the up

right position. 28 passengers were stranded and those passengers were stuck in a sideways position. six of the riders were treated for heat related problems but there were no serious injuries. an amber alert is in effect for a 16-year-old girl. police believe the teen was kidnapped by two men involved in a homicide. she's about 5'tall, weighs about 130 pounds and had brown hairs and eyes. she also has a tattoo that says 3-10-10. serrano went missing after two men were killed in her father's home in san ardo. investigators believe her boyfriend juan manuel salazar and her father juan manuel

salazar sr. are taking them to mexico. a search in the case of sierra lamar -- and a fundraiser for sierra lamar is wrapping up today. her family does not plan to attend. >> reporter: four months of dispair lifted for the lamars at least briefly. the family has lived at the search center, focused on finding 16-year-old sierra kidnapped on h -- on her way to school. but tonight their attention turned to bowling. >> good to be surrounded by all these people who care about the cause. >> we need something to uplift us and these kind of events

have been able to do it for us. >> reporter: the man linked by dna and accused of abducting and murdering sierra has a hearing on tuesday. the family knows a long legal phase is ahead and is focusing on finding her. >> of course i want him to tell us what he knows and everything but then at the same time, you know, if it's like the worse then, we don't want to let him off easy. >> reporter: support comes from new friends who have lived it. >> every day it's been really heartbreaking. >> reporter: michelle le was kidnapped last year and they have a mentor in mark class who's daughter pauly was abouted at age 12. she would be 31 now. >> most definitely families have to be front and center once these things go to trial just to remind the jury, the judge, the officers of the

court and the public what this is really about. >> reporter: at tonight's fundraiser, lucky strike donated all the fees from four lanes to the search cause and that plus what other bowlers kicked in totaled more than $1,000. we're live in san francisco, debra villalon, ktvu channel 2 news. more details now on the case, it was back on march 16th when sierra lamar disappeared as she was walking to a bus stop to go to school. on march 28 investigators believe that's when they began their surveillance of garcia torrez after they said evidence linked them to the case. may21st deputies arrested torrez in morgan hill. police arrested three people after a shooting that injured three people early this morning. the gunfire broke out just before 3:30 this morning on 87th avenue near g street. the three people hurt were taken to hospitals where they were listed in stable condition. investigators say some kind of

an argument sparked the gunfire. police have not yet said exactly who was arrested. meantime the contra costa county sheriff's office is looking for a man who opened fire on a house wounding an 8- year-old girl and 36-year-old man who were inside. we first reported this story at 6:00. the victims were taken to the hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. the gunman is an african american man in his 20s with a medium build. witnesses say he fled the scene in a black honda sedan. b.a.r.t. police have yet to track down a person who fired a gun at the san leandro b.a. r.t. station. no one was hurt. officers closed the station for a few hours during the investigation. the pipe burst on santa clara avenue near crescent street not far from lake merit

around 5:00 this morning. a spokesman for east bay mud tell us that about 200 residents were without water for several hours today. firefighters rush to a house fire early this morning in oakland. the flames broke out around 5:00 a.m. at 63rd avenue and mcarthur boulevard. the fire started in a vacant house in the back of the lot. officials say homeless people may have been living inside. a woman living in the front house says she heard someone yell fire early this morning. >> i looked out my bedroom window and seen the whole trees on fire. the front of the house on fire, ran down stared, grabbed my keys and ran outside. >> firefighters say the gas was turned on inside the home that was supposedly vacant. nobody was hurt. a grass fire burned in thick vegetation at benecia park. it started around 11:30 this morning. a firefighter there on the scene told us about two to 3

acres burned. crews from contra costa, solano and vallejo all worked together to fight that fire. fire crews in mendecino county are making progress. the fire is in a heavy area of brush. no homes are threatened. as of tonight 120 acres have burned. it is now 85% contained. there's some concern this fire may have been deliberately set. but so cause no cause has been released. friends are mourning a woman who died on a bizarre accident on a party bus on highway 17. as ktvu's vague, the young woman had big plans. >> reporter: natasha noland was described by friends as free and fun. >> it's just horrible that this happened to such a beautiful nice girl. >> reporter: noland was one of around 15 people who were on a party bus traveling south on highway 17. investors say just before the

highway 9 exit noland and a 20- year-old woman were fighting when the door suddenly opened and both fell out. nolan was run over and killed by the bus. the other woman suffered road rash. nolan worked at her parents store as a buyer for women's clothing. she had been accepted to san jose state where she was going to study communications. >> it's almost not real yet. i'm kind of expecting to hear from her just because i haven't seen her. >> reporter: chp officers are trying to track down all the witnesses to find out how the bus door opened. officers say many on the bus were drunk and it appears some ran away. they are investigating a party bus of santa cruz is negligent. tonight nolan's friends are focusing on good memories. >> she always had a smile on her face. she was such an uplifting person. >> reporter: people have been dropping off flowers and condolence cards all day for the family. reporting from santa cruz, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. a talented young rodeo star

anaheim police made two arrests today during another day of demonstrations against recent officer involved shootings. many gathered in front of disneyland after marching from another protest in front. police station. protesters are upset about seven police shootings this year. one involved a known gang member acting suspiciously. all of those shootings are under investigation. the man killed yesterday by turlock police was identified today as a 30-year-old parolee. merced county sheriff deputy

say the man was davis. two officers shot at davis after he attempted to take a car during a carjacking. an officer was also shot, investigators say it's not clear if the officer was shot by davis or by another officer. in san francisco today a prayer rally for the victims of the colorado movie theater shooting. and a call for lawmakers to tackle gun control. ken pritchett was at that event and supporters told him why they doubt any new policies will be introduced. >> we remember john laramer, we remember jessica galt. >> reporter: they read the names of the colorado victims. >> we're just here to pray together and allow the community to pray for the victims and their families. >> reporter: but this gathering in san francisco was both prayer and politics.

this is one of 25 different groups. they want the assault weapons ban expired in 2004 renewed. >> it's time that we act like we are a civilized society and get rid of these automatic weapons. >> reporter: the weapons used by james holmes was semi automatic but the drum would have been covered under the expired ban. senator feinstein called for the assault weapons ban to be reinstated but president obama who supports the ban is not calling specifically for new gun laws and democrats the capital says the gun control debate won't happen this year. and that's what has those protesting today so frustrated. >> even presidential candidates cannot speak out against the national rifle association. >> reporter: supporters of renewing the ban say that since it expired there's been an increase of deaths related to assault weapons. however opponents say that we have seen tragedies in recent

a deadly crash scene in arizona. seven people died this morning in a two vehicle accident on interstate 10 about 100 miles west of phoenix. a tractor trailer hit a van head on. the impact pushed both vehicles into a culvert where it caught fire. two people in the tractor trailer were air lifted to the hospital with serious injuries. u.s. defense secretary leon panetta says syria's president assad's moves may have been a nail in his cofin. but as the comments were made, assad spoke out. >> this regime is planning for a big massacre. >> the rebels said they've managed to keep government forces from the neighborhoods

they now control but there are reports of dozens of people dead and the u.n. says 2,000 people have left the city over the last two days. according to the u.n. more than 17,000 people have died in the syrian conflict. in other news of the world in southern india a train has ended the life of seven people. 10,000 other passengers have been hospitalized with burns. officials say the fire may have been caused by a short circuit in the coach. in hong kong, 90,000 people took to the streets to oppose patriotism in schools. a new look at the u.s. doctor shortage indicate that is new health care reform will make the situation much worse and that southern california

will be hard hit. under the health care plan 300,000 new patients will pour into the system in 2014. many of those people will be in economically depressed areas such as southern california's inland empire. but the number of doctors will not spike to meet that demand. new estimates show the u.s. will need another 63,000 primary care physicians right after the full effects of health care reform kick in. it was 27 years ago today that san jose police officer henry bunt was killed in the line of duty. the 33-year-old officer was shot in the head by a man under arrest for suspected drunk driving. the suspect had grabbed bunt's question. he was then killed by bunt's partner. bunt was an 11 year police veteran. tens of thousands of people are in san francisco for this year's marathon. we'll tell you why some say this is one of the toughest marathon course

we have some developing news on the case of that missing 16-year-old. the sheriff's office has now cancelled the amber alert for the teenage girl. police fear she was kidnapped by two men connected to a double homicide. eunice serrato are still missing at this hour. however authorities said they found the car in southern monterey county so they say an amber alert is no longer appropriate. serrano's boyfriend and father may be taking her to mexico. dozens of runners are resting their'tonight after running from san francisco over

between ellis and geary street. it's being built to build an under ground stop for the central system. part of stockton will reopen to traffic between thanksgiving and new years for christmas shopping. the smart train in marin and sonoma county is expected to get its new railcars sometime next year. the japanese company that is expected to build the cars opened a plant in illinois. plans call for the smart train to eventually run 70 miles between the marksburg ferry terminal and clover dale. the animal rescue group the milo foundation is planning to move to point richmond. the group is locateed in san rafael in a 2,100 square foot facility. the founder of the organization says they need more space. they're hoping to raise $40,000 to improve to a 5,000 square foot facility in south gerard boulevard in point richmond. they hope to move there by

october. the nonprofit no kill organization provides adoption services and sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found. a chinese mobile phone parts dealer now plans to have built a new iphone 5 from acquired parts. it's not clear just where i lab got the parts but the company has published these photos of what it claims is the next iphone. the photos are not much different from previously published images. the phone appears to have a thinner body, longer screen, smaller dock connector, a central camera and what looks like a metal plate on the back. a high powered patent rights trial begins tomorrow between apple and samsung. the trial has also led to information not previously

coastal fog. tomorrow a bit warmer. the extended forecast we still have warmer temperatures coming up in just a few days. overnight lows first thing monday morning. monday morning will be in the low to mid-50s out there. the fog targets the coast and right around the bay. once again the possibility of some drizzle. so lots of sunshine across the legion for this afternoon. this area of low pressure has been keeping us on the cooler side over the past few days. you can see what happens into your monday. high pressure returns and everybody warms up about three to 6 degrees and that will translate to some mid-90s in the warmest locations 94 to 95. here's our forecast model showing us the fog develop. you notice the clouds coast side and a few patches into the bay. you will notice into the afternoon hours clearing skies we could have a left over patch near parts of the coast. especially south of the golden gate bridge.
