the s.w.a.t. team moving into a san francisco neighborhood after a homeowner finds an intruder inside. good evening i'm julie haener. >> and i'm ken wayne. it turns into a stand off. the woman was armed with a shotgun and a hatchet. jade hernandez has the story. >> reporter: the woman was carrying a hatchet. she broke in, took a shotgun

from inside. refused to leave and threatened to kill herself. this police car sped down the street after a woman came home to an intruder. >> she was ranting and raving. >> when the police responded they saw a woman in the window with a shotgun. >> we initiated a s.w.a.t. call up and brought our hostage negotiators to the scene. >> tom sweeney stood with police officers as police worked to get the woman out of the home. the department evacuated about a dozen people any way including a home to the north and south of the situation as it grew more tense.

>> she was threatening herself with the gun. about half way into this event officers could see her standing at the front window holding a shotgun to her own chest. >> reporter: about 5:15 this evening the woman emerged with a shotgun in one hand and a hatchet in the other. arrested without police, police still aren't sure who the white 22-year-old female is. but she will be charged with weapons charges. as if the shotgun that she took from inside of the home, it is legally owned by the homeowner. jade hernandez, ktvu news. an all out is search for an assault weapon stolen from a police vehicle. anyone with information on the whereabouts of this weapon is asked to call police immediately. now to a string of officer involved shootings in the bay area. there have been five since thursday night. the first was in sonoma county

where a sheriff's deputy, fatally shot -- a high and low speed chase through san jose and ended with police shooting and killing the driver. last night a traffic stop in union city result -- resulted in the death of a motorist. allie rasmus spoke to police. >> reporter: a tow truck took an older honda mini van. the driver is in jail and his passenger is dead after an officer involved shooting. >> the driver could have complied. >> reporter: hayward police says an officer tried to pull

over pacman for speeding but he did not stop. the officer led the suspect into this area. the officer happened to have a civilian doing a ride along with him. >> made several movements to intentionally drive at the officer. >> reporter: pacman wasn't struck by the police gunfire but his passenger was. >> then you hear three shots fast. then you hear another two and you hear the door slam fast. >> reporter: police pursued pacman as he sped down d street. he was caught and arrested. police say pacman's last known address was in oakley. he is now in jail and homicide -- jail charged with homicide for the death of his passenger.

police continue to investigate a an officer involved shooting. when he blew out a tire and ran from the vehicle, officers say he appeared to be hiding a gun and he opened fire. neighbors heard the commotion. >> i'm glad they caught that stupid guy. he's going to hurt somebody. all of a sudden i heard the shots and i got out of the way. because when you're in vietnam and you hear shots you get the hell out of the way. >> police have not released the system's identity. >> how a traffic stop led to the city's fourth related shooting. and the memorial for two

officers lost on duty will take place on thursday march 7. tragedy struck san francisco's escape from alcatraz triothalon. a competitor from austin texas suffered a massive heart attack and died when he jump into the water. the annual event features a 1- 1/2 mile swim from alcatraz. the winner was javier gomez from spain. the race director issued a statement saying the thoughts and prayers from the entire escape from alcatraz are with the family and friends of the racer. they said cpr was immediately given but they could not save him. our continuing coverage now of the sequestration here's a live look at the capital in washington, d.c. where both sides in the budget debate may be adopting a wait and see

three robberies in eight hours had palo alto police warning residents to be careful. these robberies occurred just steps from the police department. >> reporter: in the stairwell of this civic center parking garage. a woman headed to her car after work robbed of cash fitting a pattern of robbery on the rise. >> scared the [ bleep ] out of me >> reporter: this customer was shocked to hear palo alto's public storage was robbed

saturday evening. a person with a handgun taking money from the clerk. >> i guess people are really desperate in this economy. >> reporter: police are tracking a dramatic surge in downtown robberies. in some the suspect is an african american man in his 20s, thin build with a black handgun. but not all. >> there are some similarities between the cases, there are other dissimilarities between the cases too. everybody is working hard on this one. it's our goal to solve this as quickly as we can. >> reporter: there was an arrest overnight. this vallejo man grabbed cash from a woman in front of a convenience store and bit her hand when she resisted. minutes later another woman headed down this stairwell to her car was robbed by a different man who grabbed her from behind. >> had a grasp over her neck

motorist pulled a gun on officers. ktvu's ken pritchett spoke to people in the area about what they heard. in the traffic lane there's one. another on the curb. red dots from a spray paint can also marked the grass and parking lot of this apartment building. these indicate areas of interest to investigators the only remaining sign of the officer involved shooting near the intersection of dire street and meteor way. charmaney bandager heard it happen last night. >> i was just in my living room watching tv. i heard some shots that were like fire crackers so i ignored it. >> but when she heard more shots she went upstairs to look out of her window. >> i saw there was this green colored car with the door open and behind that there were two police cars. >> reporter: union cit city police say two of their

officers tried to arrest a man. but he reached into his pants and pulled out a gun, which prompted the police to open fire. >> a whole lot of policemen searching the grass looking for something. >> reporter: they did find something at the scene a loaded handgun belonging to the suspect. he was hit multiple times and died at the hospital. ken pritchett, ktvu channel 2 news. vallejo police are investigating the deaths of a man and woman who's bodies were found today inside an apartment. about 9:25 this morning, officers were called to an officer near roline drive. neighbors told police they heard at least two gunshots. when arrests arrived they found a dead woman and man inside. the circumstances of their deaths have not been released. we have an update now on a story we first brought you last

week in claims that bud waters down its beers. today the beer company fired back at the claim. today they released this ad saying they must have tested cans of water. and that beer is the best beer they know how to brew. former employees came forward claiming that the company adds water right before bottling lowering the alcohol content that's on the label. a new light art installation is under way. you can look at the beautiful pictures of the lights. 25,000 lights are strung on the northern side of the suspension span of the bridge. the artist responsible has been putting the final touches on the project tonight. christien kafton tells us the

tomorrow after we had a few sprinkles. tomorrow here we go with the overcast and skies becoming partly cloudy. also a breeze with winds from around 15 to 20 miles per hour. tuesday this system will slowly approach the bay area. that will be the keyword, slowly. north bay rain probably not until after 2:00. better bet closer to 3:00 or 4:00. the shower chances will linger into wednesday and even into thursday. the main event with the moderate to heavy rainfall that move into the region tuesday evening. coast side around the bay and dense patching well inland will put this into motion into the afternoon hours. once again the clouds begin to break up. tuesday day starts out dry at 8:00 we begin to introduce the chance of rain after 2:00 in the north bay. just in time for the evening commute, san francisco, oakland out toward san rafael and santa rosa.
