didn't get to start a family or become a psychologist to help veterans with ptsd. >> the somber transfer took place at dover air force base in delaware. service members carried the bodies of a state young department diplomat. two more american service members were killed today in afghanistan. a nato helicopter crashed in the eastern part of the country. two afghans showed off some of the wreckage they had found. there were no reports of enemy activity in the area at the time. one witness said he heard a loud explosion then saw the chopper fall to earth in

flames. new video into our newsroom tonight as police investigate a fatal shooting in east oakland. officers tell us they responded to the site to calls of a man down. you can see officers tagging evidence in what appears to be the side of a house. police say they have arrested a five time felon. friday night a stray bullet hit flucker and he died at the scene. police identified the suspect as andny lister of san leandro. they are still looking for a second gunman. >> we hope that the community can step forward and provide us with information on the other person that was involved in the shooting. we believe that person is armed

as well. the suspect was injured in the shooting and was taken to the hospital. he is now charged with murder among other charges. robert handa was at the project meeting and joins us with the goals and consequences. >> reporter: tonight santa clara took a first step a big first step around the stadium. if all goes planned here at city hall there will be a lot of people to benefit but there will also be some casualties. the new stadium for the 49ers just keeps getting bigger. now santa clara is on the road to bigger plans to surround it with restaurants and shopping. >> we don't want it to just be a place we want it to be the place. >> reporter: if approved the plan is to fill 230 acres of

them want to reinstate the calfire contract. police held a community meeting to address neighborhood concerns about an officer involved shooting this past weekend at 17th and valencia. they say the two men shot near by the police station are now in stable condition. it happened early sunday morning. invest investigators say a man pulled out a gun that turned out to be a air powered pellet gun. the officer shot two shots. one injured a man the other a innocent bystander. >> they have to really get a handle on it immediately. i don't think they totally had any other choice. >> reporter: at tonight's meeting investigators said they don't know if the initial fight was gang related. it's hard for many people to imagine san francisco fleet week without the blue angels. but that's the news from the

navy today blamed on budget cuts. we have more from the possible domino effect from the landing. >> reporter: for some people the blue angels are the better show above earth. but the navy announced they are grounding them because of sequestration. >> it brings a lot of people to the city. it's a pretty good show of our american military might. >> reporter: the blue angels have been the star attraction of fleet week but the navy is canceling their shows nationwide. ktvu spoke by phone today to the spokeswoman for the blue angels. >> outreach events can only be supported with local assets at no cost to the government. so unfortunately that mean that is the blue angels will no longer be allowed to fly. >> reporter: and the city says the navy does not plan to dock aircraft carriers or other ships visitors often enjoy touring. it will be meeting with fleet week organizers to determine what kind of event will be

new at 10:00, going to a baseball game in san francisco is getting more expensive. and it's not just ticket prices on the rise. eric rasmussen is live with a new report showing how much prices have gone up. eric-- >> reporter: according to this report ticket prices are up $30. that's up a little bit from

accusing him of retaliation and termination. alvarez will receive a maximum of six months severance pay. the marine county is trying to locate bret richards. he's been charged with nine felony counts including misappropriation of $350,000 in publing funds that he used for perm expenses and vacations -- public funds that he used for personal expenses and vacations. hundreds of students at dear valley high school in antioch will soon be tested for tb after a classmate was diagnosed with the idea. students who shared a classroom or were in a club with the sick student are scheduled to be tested for tb on thursday. the risk of getting tb from a tb infection is only about 10%. testing from the disease allowed those being treated

before the illness has a chance to progress. >> we can treat prior to there being any risk of them passing this on to other students and other individuals. >> reporter: the student diagnosed with tb has recovered. officials say it takes at least three months for the infection to develop. the students will be offered tests again in may. there's some encouraging news when it comes to california's high school graduation rate. new numbers just released by the department of education show california's graduation rate increased 1.4% to an overall rate of 78.5%. the news is even better for minorities. state school superintendent tom turlocksen shared the good news. >> 78% of our students are graduating and we've actually seen stronger gains for african american students and latino students so this is really positive news. >> one example of that success is in santa clara county where the gilroy unified school district graduation rate jumped

from 78 to 85%. latino students make up almost 3/4 of the student body there and their graduation rate left from 72% to 81%. it's a different story at secoia union high school in san mateo county where the graduation rate fell from 85% down to just 80%. latino graduation dropped from 77% to just 68%. at ktvu.com you can check how your local school or your school district performed just look for the link under hot topics. it has been another record day on wall street the dow closed up 59 points to 14,673 to reach an all new high. this was the second record in a week. nasdaq rose 16 points. today's gains were led by increases in precious metals and energy companies. a consumer watchdog website has named electronics art as the worse company in america for the second year in a row.

to 100 million users. firefighters in ventura county say they have a wildfire contained and expect to have it fully under control by tomorrow. the fire broke out yesterday and destroyed two homes in the town of fillmore. firefighters got a break when the strong winds finally died down. the fire burned 148 acres. it was started by a power line knocked down in those high winds. weather conditions in the san joaquin valley were also reminiscent of the dust bowl. strong winds kicked up dust and dirt along stockton on interstate 5. it was not as bad as yesterday when the winds were stronger and knocked down several trees. today we were cloudy with higher gusts. it's 56 in livermore, 56 in

a group of people who were working to improve their lives became targets of violence in richmond today. one man was shot and killed. two others wounded by a gunman who remains on the lose.

ktvu maureen naylor tells us about the victims and the clues list -- police had to work with. >> reporter: homicide detectives investigate. ana wells says she and four others were running as part of an agility test when a man starts shooting from a white suv. >> i heard pow, pow, pow. and the other young men that were in front of me turned around and they started running the other way. and i got behind a car. >> reporter: richmond police say they received several 911 calls and the city shot spotter system helped direct them to the gunfire. two men were wounded another one was killed. >> i had close contact with that young man, and saw his desire to change and he was robbed.

>> reporter: the victim sought help from nonprofit men and women of purpose. hoping to become a citizen and a better person. the group connected him to richmond build. >> families are really trying to change their lives and use the resources that are in the community that are very scarce to change their lives and something of that magnitude happens it's a shame. >> reporter: police found an abandoned suv close to the shooting scene. it turns out it was stolen out of oakland. and police are still trying to determine if it's related to this shooting. lorraine blanco. a young boy who was shot at a bar-b-que is now out of the hospital. police say someone fired shots from an area near the g street overcrossing. this was on march 30th. the day before easter. police are still investigating and say the shooting may be gang related. they say someone at the bar- bh.que was likely the target. it may be 2013 but women in america still are not paid as

there's developing news in the south bay tonight where a burning body has been found alongside a highway in san jose. the body was found on the highway 85 off ramp at cottle road shortly at 9:00 p.m. firefighters had responded to a gas fire as they were putting out the fire they discovered the body. so far no information about the

victim. we have a crew on the way and we'll bring you more details later in this newscast. new information tonight in that mass stabbing at a texas college today just a few hours ago a 20-year-old map was charged in the case. dillan quick faces three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon according to the sheriff's office. quick is accused of stabbing 14 people at lone star college northwest of houston. witnesses say the scene was chaotic and the suspect was aiming for people's faces and heads. a group of students helped tackle the suspect until police arrived. >> we grabbed him by the backpack. turned him around and another kid named james grabbed his arm and was pushing him down. as he was pushing him down i was there asking him, why did you do this, why. and i was just screaming with anger. >> police are not identifying the weapon used. two people remain in critical condition tonight. tonight the chrysler group is recalling more than 200,000

san francisco you're likely to spend a lot of time at the curb. and a new report shows you're not alone. it recommends adding as much as 600 to 800 new taxis within the next few years to try to get the city up to speed. still cab drivers say now is not the time and that city leaders still have to regulate other ride services such as oober, lift and side car. texting has been sited as a contributing factor in a medical aircraft crash. the ntsb found the pilot had been texting with a friend but that wasn't the only problem. the report said he also skipped preflight safety checks including a fuel check. the helicopter ultimately crashed about a mile from its destination when it ran out of fuel. in news of the world tonight in north korea another warning from the government. it told foreigners to leave south korea warning thermal nuclear war is near because of

the forecast tonight then kind of mild out there. it's mild overnight. lows are in the upper 40s, low 50s. tomorrow warmer, there's nothing wrong. there's no fog in the morning, there's no wind. it's just the perfect day except tree pollens trending high. you will notice them. it starts to cool down a little bit. so warmer today because of this high pressure center i always talk about it. it rises, expand. if you ever take a bike tire and you let the air out of the valve and the tube, you see the air expanding. so that's the air expanding it cools when air is compressed when you pump it into that tire it's actually warming. tomorrow the air will be compressing and warming. we're looking at lots of mid- 50s. lots of 70s and low 80s inland. so look at this, fairfield 85. 85 in brentwood. tomorrow's highs certainly noticeably warmer than today. which was quite a nice day.
