developing news now from ktvu's ken wayne. he's live in the town of valley springs in the heart of california gold country where residents are on edge. ken-- >> reporter: julie, calaveras county sheriff officials wrapped up their news conference. they said their man hunt continues and they won't rest until the killer of little leyla fowler is brought to justice. the parents of leyla fowler told officials they would wait until the start of the news conference before deciding if they would speak. at the last minute, barney fowler and kristi walters indicated it was just too overwhelming to talk about the death of their little girls. >> everybody respect the family and their family's privacy during this time. >> reporter: leyla's 12-year- old brother said he saw an intruder flee from the family

home before finding his sister. a massive search followed. authorities say they've collected dna evidence and are contacting sex offenders in the area but will not say if the girl was sexually assaulted. >> the calaveras probation department have contacted and in many cases interviewed sex offenders in the area. something was wrong, just looking into his eyes and just, being there. he's all, there's just blood everywhere all over his arms. >> reporter: officials say they'll continue stepped up patrols and ask people to report any suspicious activity. >> we staffed up accordingly. we want to treat this case as though there is an intruder on the lose and we are actively following up on that.

into effect that allows us to basically ban any kind of open burning that would occur outside. >> reporter: that burn ban is in force in unincorporated areas of alameda, contra costa and san mateo. any kind of vegetation burning will need a special permit. yet campfires are still allowed in designated campgrounds. temperatures did come up, they were 10 to 15 degrees warmer in places than yesterday. that's why the national weather service has put into effect for tomorrow starting at 6:00, a fire weather warning. a red flag warning for all these areas in red. and just to the east up here near fairfield. we have a wind advisory that will go into effect tomorrow at noon. it's warm outside right now. temperatures in the inland bay valleys you can see 77 as we look into the antioch area. it's 66 in anita rosa. winds right now are doing this. are coming on shore. by tomorrow afternoon and

know the motive. the court appointed monitor overseeing oakland's department says the department is making a slight improvement when it comes to other reforms. robert warshaw reiterated its -- all of which were mandated by the 2003 settlement of the writers case. the department has improved the amount it takes to investigate complaints against officers and the department's policy to set a deadline to resolve those investigations. new information at this hour regarding a story we first broke on ktvu channel 2 news at 6:00. it involves a lease negotiation between the oakland a's and coliseum authorities and it alleges the a's have withheld millions of the dollars on rent and taxes. tonight the a's are responding to our investigation. ktvu's christien kafton has a story you will see only on 2. according to confidential documents obtained by ktvu.

parking revenue and rent continue to be two of the major sticking points on the athletics lease negotiations with the coliseum authority. alameda council authority chair it is coliseum authority and says after a year of talks the a's abruptly stopped meeting last week. >> i haven't heard from the a's nor have the staff of the coliseum or attorneys given us any indication why we've been negotiating in good fate. - - good faith. >> reporter: according to the e- mail, the a's owe the city more than $7 million. the team flatly rejected paying any back taxes but said it would pay taxes going on forward. >> still going back and forth. i don't know if that particular provision and the money associated with it is the sticking point. >> reporter: in a statement this afternoon the a's responded saying in part the disputed items are subject to arbitration or possibly incorporateed in a new five

fragments. today fbi agents were at the home of katherine russells parents. she's the the wife of the late tamerlan tsarnaev. the agents were at the home to collect dna samples from russell. it's in this home that a reporter says he interviewed misha. the man strongly denied the accusations. >> he was very, very very intent on explaining that he had had nothing to do with any kind of radicalization.

>> alex virdock told carroll he moved and has not had contact with tamerlan tsarnaev. american sports history was made today as a 34-year-old basketball player jason collins came out and said he is gay. he is the first athlete to come out while playing in a major support. collin came out in a personal essay, he played college ball in stanford and is a 12 year veteran who played for the celtics and again is now a free agent center for the wizards. in his essay he wrote that the boston bombing prompted him to come out publicly because he saw that things can change in an instant. ivan went through years of

developing news now, where a woman confined to her bed was killeded in a fire. the woman's husband and a neighbor tried to rescue the 76- year-old woman but couldn't. both were treated for smoke

inhalation. fire investigators are looking into the cause. the fire was confined to the first floor of the building. a woman is accused of putting -- in containers at starbucks. a woman remembers seeing taking two orange bottles in a glass and place them on a store shelf. when she alerted authorities, the woman left the store. but an employee wrote down her license plate number. the suspect was located at her home and arrested on a poisoning charge. police say a test found that the orange juice contained rubbing alcohol. the search for a missing san francisco sheriff deputy came to a sad end today. the man's body was found in the body of a municipal arena near his fishing boat. as ktvu's lorraine blanco reports, officials are still trying to figure out what's going on. >> reporter: after more than eight hours after maticulous

searching. jeff called 911 got a small ding at the direction of the pd, tied a rope around the body and pulled it into the dock. 56-year-old michael roberts from hercules went fishing sometime yesterday. this morning his fishing boat was found drifting in the murky waters near the slip, no one was unless. as sheriff mirkarimi put it, on pins and needles. >> something like this can have very, very deflating, demoralizing. we want to make sure all of our people are safe and sound. >> reporter: vallejo police say there is no sign of foul play. roberts was found wearing a life jacket.

year-old girl in pittsburg. today police released a surveillance photo of an suv seen in the area last week. this video of ford explorer or similar suv was seen just minutes before the man grabbed the toddler. the driver of that suv may have seen what happened. the child's mother say it is man grabbed the 2-year-old girl from the front yard of her home. the mother says she gave chase and he dropped the child right before running away. the toddler was not hurt. police released a sketch to resemble the man he's described as being in his 30s with blond hair last seen wearing a green shirt and blue jeans. the prime minister nearly escaped an assassination attempt. his car passed through a convey of syria.

place. east bay hills, north bay hills, hills down by mission peak. elevations above 1,000 feet. and if you look out here, this brown area, that's a wind advisory it's going to be blowing out toward davis and fairfield with wind gusts at the surface perhaps 45, 40 miles per hour. in the hills around the bay area, we can see wind tomorrow night they go 40 to 50 miles per hour on the gust. so it's going to get pretty windy around here. it has been a dry dry period and with that said we're concerned for fire. so the red flag warning goes into effect tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. and it lasts for 24 hours before the next day. the forecast for tomorrow then, reds are 90s so tomorrow we're going to see a lot of upper 80s. maybe a couple of low 90s. but i think it's mostly the upper 80s. the winds start in the afternoon. those winds will stay blowing and you will notice them most in the coastal hills and the valley. high pressure stays in charge here. today was nice. tomorrow continues nice but as this low pressure sort of
