the killer of an 8-year-old girl, her brother. ken pritchett spent the day in the gold country town where there is shock and anger. this house on a rural calaveras county road has been the focus of the town valley spring. it's where leila fowler was stabbed to death. her 12-year-old brother said an intruder did it but after a two week stand off, last night they announced the brother was under arrest for the crime. >> i was shocked, completely shocked. i could not believe it. >> reporter: this community has shown an outpouring of support. but since last night, many have asked for their donations back and the fundraiser was cancelled. >> the anger and the hostility came out. >> reporter: a clear indication that the tone and circumstances of this story has changed can be seen here at the family's home. there's no activity to be seen here today. and a car that blocked the driveway is now gone -- and a

family, students and staff. and it says they'll have counselors on hand at all schools tomorrow. legal analysts and former prosecutor jim handler says under california law the 12- year-old boy must be tried as a juvenile. >> besides the fact that juvenile courtceedings are held confidentable and secret from the public, the big difference in juvenile court proceedings is the po -- focus is on the minor. how do you turn this kid around before he turns 18 years old. >> reporter: according to state law those under the age 14 cannot be tried as adults. investigators say leila's brother initially told authorities that an intruder had broken into the home and killed her sister and there was a massive man hunt for that man despite the boy's arrest. the sheriff's office says it's still an active investigation. we continue to monitor this case with additional coverage

president released a statement today she said quote the entire university community is heartbroken to hear of the tragic traffic accident which resulted in the death of a um student who just celebrated his graduation on friday. reports of gunfire led police in the east bay today to an area known for its breathtaking views. an that's where a man was found shot to death. the gunfire rang out early this morning on grizzly peaks. that's in the berkeley hills. it's located near hildon regional park just behind the cal campus. jade hernandez is there live with what she learned from uc police. >> reporter: uc berkeley police are still not releasing the victim's name or age tonight. it became the scene of a crime early this morning. >> reporter: drivers encountered uc berkeley police turning traffic around. between centennial and south

it. >> reporter: do you think it matters who's at the top right now. >> i really don't. i think there's more underlying problems going on than one person can handle. >> reporter: chief wynn is a 17 year veteran. john burress called wynn a straight shooter and a man with integrity. more details now about howard jordan's sudden departure this week. jordan told ktvu that he never met with anyone from the city or the police department on the day he announced his plans to seek medical retirement. however several sources say jordan told his officers he had been called to a meeting at city hall before he made his announcement on wednesday. police are learning more about a gruesome discovery made at an oakland recycling facility last week. investigators now say a mummified skull found wednesday likely came from a homicide victim. and police say the person had

likely been dead for months or even years. it's unclear if the victim was a man or a woman. the alameda county coroner is planning on performing an autopsy. an investigation is under way in santa rosa after several people were stabbed at a large party last night. it happened around 11:30 on the 1200 block of marboro avenue. at least three people were stabbed but only one of those people were severely injured. another stabbing victim were documented gang members. the mayor of new orleans is asking people to come guard after a gunman opened fire at a mother's day parade. it all happened around 2:00 this afternoon near the seventh ward neighborhood not far from the french quarter. according to police, two people had surgery following the shooting but the other victims were grazed by bullets and sustained only minor injuries. >> everybody started running

and running and running we were wondering what was going on and they're shooting. >> two men collapsed in front of our steps. me and my daughter did the best job we could to revive them. >> reporter: police are looking for three people seen running from the shooting scene. meantime the nbi -- fbi is calling the shooting street violence and not a terrorist attack. the legislative analyst office say it is state collected $6.6 billion more than jerry brown predicted in january. many democrats would like to see some social programs restored but they are also pushing for a more cautious approach to state finances. schools will get much of that money. brown is expected to release his revised budget on tuesday. senior officials at the internal revenue service were aware that agents were targets tea party groups back in 2011. this is according to a new report. the treasury department inspector general found that certain groups with names

containing tea party and patriot were flagged for additional and burdensome paper work. officials have already launched their own investigation of the irs. >> they did have agents that were engaged in intimidation of political groups is as dangerous a problem that government can have. i don't care if you're a conservative. liberal, democrat or republican this should send a chill up your spine. >> the white house press secretary says president obama expects swift punishment for those responsible for the misconduct. the legal battle over drake's bay oyster company is scheduled to be back in court this week. on tuesday, hearing is scheduled to appeal a ruling about whether or not the historic oyster company can operate on national park service land during legal proceedings. drake's company was ordered off the state land. after that there have been several counter suits claiming that drake's bay is operating without a permit.

police in trenon new jersey shot and killed a man this morning who they say had been holding his girlfriend's children captive.

police found the bodies of murphy's girl and 13-year-old woman inside the home. all three children and a 19- year-old man who was hiding in the basement were all taken to the hospital for evaluation. the board was critical of security before last september's benghazi attacks had killed four americans. but the board didn't question then secretary of state hillary clinton enough. one of them says that's not true. >> i was willing to appear to come to the very hearings that he excluded me from. the white house held me back. >> i excluded you? >> the majority said i was not welcomed at that hearing i could come at some other time. >> issa says he plans to require depositions tomorrow.

and a planned implosion in australia did not go as planned. there was a boom and some movement as you saw, but the building didn't go down. it leaned to one side for about 40 minutes. and crews had to use heavy machinery to push it over. in spain a dramatic foot chase and it was all caught on tape. police finally arrested british fugitive andrew morren as he tried to jump from a rooftop. morren had been on the run since 2009 when he escaped jail after being convicted of burglary charges. he is due in court and is due for an extradition hearing.

and miss knight have asked, in fact, they've pleaded for their privacy so they can recover from the ordeal they've gone through. more details now the victim's attorney says the women will not give any interviews until the criminal proceedings are over. a fund to help the women has raised more than $50,000. and donations are coming in from all across the u.s. and canada, france and australia. organizers say that money will help the women pay for therapy, doctors visits, housing and other expenses. dozens of law enforcement officers are intensifies their search for a triple homicide suspect in remote parts of humble county. they say this man sean miller is on the run in an area known as the lost coast. they say he is heavily armed

and dangerous. he is accused of killg his girlfriend and daughter. residents are being told to keep their doors locked and leave notes with their name and whereabouts if they leave their homes. police say scammers posing as utility workers are targeting san francisco. authorities say the suspects falsely tell victims they work for pg & e or the san francisco water department and demand payments for overdue bills. the scammers call the victims and tell them that if they don't pay their service will be cancelled. victims are told the only form of payment is by a service called money pac. neither pg & e or the city's water department requests payments that way. hundreds of steel rods used in the construction of the bay break. a caltrans spokesperson says the agency is aware of the issue and tells the paper quote we're going to make 100%

certain they are safe. golden gate bridge are working on a plan to increase ferry service. ridership is growing about 5% a year both seats and parking lot spaces are becoming scarce. a district committee outlined a vision plan last week that called for an additional ferry in the morning. any changes will be subject to public comment and a board vote. >> as home prices rise across california affordability is going down. the california association of realtors says just 44% of families could afford a medium priced home in the first quarter. that compares to 48% at the end of last year and 56% one year ago. san francisco and san mateo county side for the least affordable housing in the state at 23%. mad era county was the most affordable. a new report recommends all cities in marin county implement a plastic bag ban.

the old reputation of the warriors was thrown out the window in tonight's game four in the series with san antonio. the spurs show that they can play a gritty game. the big pregame story was the health of steph curry. he could go. same for the spurs' tony parker. after an 11-6 lead, the warriors didn't score for more than seven minutes. tim duncan with the hoop plus the foul. bogut didn't get the call and got a technical. this turned into a point possession for the spurs. then jinobli got hot. spurs led by seven at the end of the quarter and by eight at halftime. they held the warriors to 77 points at the half. mark jackson saw positive in
